We present a detailed investigation of X-ray source contents of eight young open clusters with ages between 4 to 46 Myr using archival X-ray data from XMM-Newton. The probable cluster memberships of the X-ray sources have been established on the basis of multi-wavelength archival data, and samples of 152 pre-main sequence (PMS) low mass (<2M ), 36 intermediate mass (2–10M ) and 16 massive (>10M ) stars have been generated. X-ray spectral analyses of high mass stars reveal the presence of high temperature plasma with temperature <2 keV, and mean L X/L bol of 10???6.9. In the case of PMS low mass stars, the plasma temperatures have been found to be in the range of 0.2 keV to 3 keV with a median value of ~1.3 keV, with no significant difference in plasma temperatures during their evolution from 4 to 46 Myr. The X-ray luminosity distributions of the PMS low mass stars have been found to be similar in the young star clusters under study. This may suggest a nearly uniform X-ray activity in the PMS low mass stars of ages ~4–14 Myr. These observed values of L X/L bol are found to have a mean value of 10??3.6±0.4, which is below the X-ray saturation level. The L X/L bol values for the PMS low mass stars are well correlated with their bolometric luminosities, that implies its dependence on the internal structure of the low mass stars. The difference between the X-ray luminosity distributions of the intermediate mass stars and the PMS low mass stars has not been found to be statistically significant. Their L X/L bol values, however have been found to be significantly different from each other with a confidence level greater than 99.999% and the strength of X-ray activity in the intermediate mass stars is found to be lower compared to the low mass stars. However, the possibility of X-ray emission from the intermediate mass stars due to a low mass star in close proximity of the intermediate mass star can not be ruled out.  相似文献

The dependence of the spin frequency derivative \(\dot \nu \) of accreting neutron stars with a strongmagnetic field (X-ray pulsars) on the mass accretion rate (bolometric luminosity, Lbol) has been investigated for eight transient pulsars in binary systems with Be stars. Using data from the Fermi/GBM and Swift/BAT telescopes, we have shown that for seven of the eight systems the dependence \(\dot \nu \) (Lbol) can be fitted by the model of angular momentum transfer through an accretion disk, which predicts the relation \(\dot \nu \)L6/7bol. Hysteresis in the dependence \(\dot \nu \) (Lbol) has been confirmed in the system V 0332+53 and has been detected for the first time in the systems KS 1947+300, GRO J1008-57, and 1A 0535+26. Estimates for the radius of the neutron star magnetosphere in all of the investigated systems have been obtained. We show that this quantity varies from pulsar to pulsar and depends strongly on the analytical model and the estimates for the neutron star and binary system parameters.  相似文献

The list of the cooperative photometric observations of the UV Cet-type flare stars that have been organized during the years 1967 to 1971 by the Working Group on Flare Stars of the IAU Commission 27 is given. The completeness and reliability of the data obtained are evaluated by comparing simultaneous observations at different observatories. the statistical analysis of the UV Cet, YZ CMi, EV Lac and AD Leo flares observed in the B-band is carried out. The flare energy spectrum in the energy range where observational selection effects are small is found to be d lnv/d lnE B=–1.4 to –1.9,v is an occurrence of flares with radiation energy ofE B. The total flares' radiation is equal to 1.7%, 1.2%, 0.3% and 0.4% of the quiet radiation in the B-band of the stars listed, and the main part of this total radiation is due to the strongest flares. Distributions of flare rise times (t r) and of rates of flare absolute luminosity increase (d2 E B/dt r 2Ë r) are considered; these parameters of flare are independent statistically for all stars studied. Correlation coefficientsr (E B,t r) andr (E B,r(E B,Ë r)) are rather small except r (E B,t r)=0.86 for the AD Leo flares. Contradictory conclusions on temporal distribution of flares infered by different investigators are noted.  相似文献

The X-ray data of a sample of 104 flare stars (FSs) in the Pleiades cluster region obtained by Stauffer et al. [1] on the basis of deep ROSAT PSPC observations are analyzed. If we divide the X-ray emission detected in late-type stars of the Pleiades cluster into FSs and non-FSs, we find that X-ray luminosities of stars of both groups can be considered as coming from the same parent population. Moreover, in order to classify stars in a sample of 23 late-type Pleiades stars of unknown nature discriminant analysis in a four-dimensional parameter space (log (Lx, log (Lx/Lbol), and ROSAT hardness ratios HR1 and HR2) has been used. It can be shown that the majority of these stars (16) are very likely FSs rather than non-FSs. Published in Astrofizika, Vol. 40, No. 4, pp. 545–557, October-December, 1997.  相似文献

Observational properties of two white-light flares (WLFs), on June 15, 1991, and June 26, 1999, are presented and compared. This is of particular interest, because the former was one of the most intense flares of X-ray class X12, while the latter was a compact flare of class M2.3. Significant differences between some flare parameters (GOES class, Hα classification, the number of WLF kernels and their location in the sunspot group, the size and duration of the WLF emission, and the peak flux density of the microwave emission) have been found. However, both these events had approximately the same powers of the emission per unit area in continuum near 658.0 nm: E = 1.5 × 107 and 1.1. × 107 erg cm?2 s?1 nm?1. There is generally a good temporal coincidence between the microwave and hard X-ray emissions and the WLF emission during the impulsive phase, but the light curve of the WLF emission on June 26, 1999, shows a stronger correlation with the X-ray emission in the energy range 14–23 keV. Both flares can be classified by their spectral characteristics as type I white-light flares.  相似文献

Two quasars SDSS J010013.02+280225.8 and J030642.51+185315.8 with redshifts z = 6.30 and z = 5.363 were recently discovered. Their apparent magnitudes in the standard cosmological model give the luminosities of Lbol ~ 4.3 × 1014L and Lbol ~ 3.4 × 1014L. In the framework of modern concepts it is accepted that the energy release of quasars is provided by the accretion onto black holes with masses of 1.24 ± 0.19 × 1010M and 1.07 ± 0.27 × 1010M. As within the standard cosmological model the ages of these objects are about one billion years, this creates serious difficulties for the scenario of formation of such objects. Here we interpret the ultra-high luminosities of quasars as the effect of lensing of their radiation by the foreground globular clusters or dwarf galaxies.  相似文献

The mean density of the UV Cet-type flare stars in the solar neighbourhood is estimated. If differences of activity levels on different flare stars are taken into account, their summary flare activity is equivalent to 0.03 YZ CMi's flare activity per cubic parsec or to 4×1026 erg s–1 pc–3 in U-passband. From the X-ray flare observation on YZ CMi of 19.10.74 we estimate the luminosity of stellar flares in soft and intermediate X-ray. The ratio of X-ray to optical radiation for stellar flares is close to the respective ratio for strong solar chromospheric flares. It is shown the set of red-dwarf flare stars has all essential features of an ensemble of discrete X-ray sources to represent the galactic diffuse X-ray background.  相似文献

Sinusoidal variations in bothV - andB-bands were detected in some flare stars of the UV Ceti type outside of flares. This detection has confirmed the light variation detection in Johnson'sV -band in EV Lac at quiet-state luminosity by Pettersen (1980) with a cyclic period equals about 4 . d 378 and an amplitude of about 0 . m 07. An interpretation of these short cyclic periods is that they are due to intensity modulations from a photospheric spot group as a result of stellar equatorial rotations. A short period of 14 days with an amplitude of 0 . m 099 was detected inB-band in AD Leo. For the two flare stars, BD+55° 1823 and DO Cep in bothV- andB-bands, cyclic periods of more than 3 days and less than 17 days with amplitudes more than 0 . m 090 and less than 0 . m 250 have been registered. A significant contribution has been found in the flare star EV Lac in bothV- andB-bands at its quiescent-state luminosity where the detected cyclic periods are agreed with that which was detected by Pettersen (1980) in the same flare star in Johnson'sV-band, about 4 days. Furthermore, we found the same cyclic period in the colour index,B - V (about 4 days) which strengthens starspot phenomenon. This colour index period could not be detected by Pettersen (1980).  相似文献

Recent observations of the X-ray and EUV emission of non-supergiant B stars are summarized. As compared with O stars, the X-rays of most of the near-main-sequence B stars are soft, and the stars show a departure from theL x = 10?7 L bol relation. Using line driven wind models to provide an estimate of the density distribution, it is concluded that a major fraction of the wind emission measure is hot, whereas in shocked wind theory less than 10 percent of the wind emission measure should be hot. The X-ray observations suggest that all of the B stars are X-ray emitters with a basal X-ray luminosity of about 10?8.5 L bol . A hard component dominates the X-ray emission of τ Sco, and possible causes are discussed. For the Be stars, the X-ray emission is that which is expected from a normal B-star wind coming from the poles, as in the Wind Compressed Disk (WCD) model of Be stars. None of the stars, including theβ Cep stars, show noticeable variability in their X-rays.EUVE observations of CMa B2 II, find it to be the brightest object in the EUV sky at 500 to 700 Å. It shows a Lyman continuum flux that is a factor of 30 higher than line blanketed model atmospheres. The continuum is seen on both sides of the He I 504 Å edge, and the discrepancy with model atmospheres is even greater shortward of 504 Å. TheEUVE spectra show emission lines both from high stages of ionization ( Feix to Fexvi) and from low stages (Heii and Oiii). The Heii Lymanα results from recombination following X-ray photoionization in the wind, and the Oiii resonance line is found to be present because of the Bowen fluorescence mechanism. Thus, there is and interesting coupling between the wind production by the EUV photospheric emission, the production of X-ray and line EUV emission by winds, and the production of fluorescence by recombination in the wind; all of these processes are now observable in B stars.  相似文献

This paper considers 3246 solar flares in the line Hα, which were accompanied by X-ray emission with a power f ≥ 5 × 10?6 Wm?2 in the solar cycle 22 (CR1797-CR1864). During 33 rotations, the specific power of X-ray emission of the flares increased monotonically by a factor of 4 from the cycle minimum up to its first maximum. The number of flares in each solar turnover rises non-monotonically and disproportionately to the relative number of sunspots. For the entire interval of time, one can identify several longitudinal intervals with increased flare activity. They exist during 5–10 rotations. The characteristics of the flares for 33 rotations in cycles 22 and 23 (CR1797-CR1961) are compared. It is concluded that the Sun is more active in cycle 22 than in cycle 23.  相似文献

We review the flaring activity of stars across the HR-diagram. Brightenings have been reported along the entire Main Sequence and in many stars off the Main Sequence. Some stars are decidedly young, others are in advanced stages of stellar evolution. Flares are common on stars with outer convection zones and outbursts have been reported also on other types of stars, although confirmations are needed for some of them.Analyses of flare occurrence sometimes find flares to be randomly distributed in time, and sometimes indicate a tendency for flares to come in groups. Preferred active longitudes have been suggested. Recent solar results, where the occurrence rate for flares is found to exhibit a periodicity of 152 days, suggest that stellar flare data should be reanalyzed over long time baselines to see if the present confusing situation can be resolved. The radiation from stellar flares is dominated by continuum emission and about equal amounts of energy have been recorded in the optical, UV, and X-ray regions of the spectrum. In solar flares strong continuum emission is rarely recorded and a large collection of bright emission lines takes prominence. Small flares occur more frequently than large ones and the latter have longer time-scales. Flare energies can exceed 1037 erg. The most productive flare stars are those where the convective envelopes occupy large volumes. Slow stellar rotation rates are believed to reduce the level when the star has been braked significantly from its young rotation rate.  相似文献

The present paper contains an attempt to formulate a theory, based on fast electrons hypothesis, of the chromospheres of flare stars. At the same time we shall undertake a survey of observations on the emission lines of flare stars and comparisons with the theory. The general discussion in the introduction concerning the civilian right of fast electron hypothesis is followed by sections in which the following problems are tackled: the anatomy of the light curve of the flare in UV Cet-type stars or its division into two components; the sources of radiation, ionizing hydrogen and other elements, and the estimation of their power in cold dwarf stars with emission lines; conditions for the excitation of emission lines in the chromospheres of those stars; the problem of duration of luminescence of flare stars in the emission lines (observations and theory); the electron temperature and electron concentration in the chromospheres of flare stars; the problem of the luminescence of emission lines in the quiescent star; the degree of ionization and the role of inelastic collisions of the electrons in the chromosphere of flare stars; the profiles of emission lines, their broadening and intensification during the flare; the dependence of the infensity of emission lines on the flare amplitude; the nature and peculiarities of two types of the Haro flares; the impact of radiation dilution and the spectral class of the star on the equivalent width of the emission lines; the possibility of exciting the forbidden lines; the problem of generation of the emission lines of neutral and ionized helium; the possibility of the Lyman-alpha emission in flare stars, the expected parameters of such emission — the radiation power, the equivalent width and profile of the Lyman-alpha line; the possibility of the presence of the strongest (after the -line) emission line — of doublet 2800 Mgii in the spectra of flare stars, the expected value of the intensity and equivalent width of that line.  相似文献

A slitless UBVR spectrograph has been built for use on small telescopes. Test observations on the Zeiss-600 telescope at the Terskol peak demonstrated that the spectrograph is an efficient instrument for studying high-speed processes in variable stars with a high temporal resolution. The spectrograph resolving power R ≈ 100 in the vicinity of λ = 480 nm and the error in the determination of the wavelength is approximately 3 nm. The spectrograph provides a moderate signal-to-noise ratio for stars up to 16 m . It permits one to measure equivalent widths of unblended lines down to 0.1 nm. The developed special software based on the theory of quantum statistics makes it possible to detect relative variations in the spectrum of approximately 10?5–10?6 of the bolometric flux of the star. Observations with the spectrograph made it possible to detect variations of emissions in Balmer lines and Ca II H, K lines in the EV Lac flare star in the subsecond range. The spectroscopic monitoring permits one to study stellar flares with small amplitude, to carry out a comprehensive colorimetric analysis of flare plasma, and to determine temperatures and sizes of flares in the light intensity maximum. Observations of the transit of the HAT-P-1 B exoplanet demonstrate that the chromospheric activity power of the parent star does not vary during the transit. The slitless spectrograph with a low resolving capacity opens new prospects in studying active processes occurring on stars’ surfaces.  相似文献

Hydrodynamic calculations of nonlinear radial oscillations of LBV stars with effective temperatures 1.5 × 104 K ⩽ T eff ⩽ 3 × 104 K and luminosities 1.2 × 106 L L ⩽ 1.9 × 106 L have been performed. Models for the evolutionary sequences of Population I stars (X = 0.7, Z = 0.02) with initial masses 70M M ZAMS ⩽ 90M at the initial helium burning stage have been used as the initial conditions. The radial oscillations develop on a dynamical time scale and are nonlinear traveling waves propagating from the core boundary to the stellar surface. The amplitude of the velocity variations for the outer layers is several hundred km s−1, while the bolometric magnitude variations are within ΔM bol ⩽ 0· m 2. The onset of oscillations is not related to the κ-mechanism and is attributable to the instability of a self-gravitating envelope gas whose adiabatic index is close to its critical value of Γ1 = 4/3 due to the dominant contribution of radiation in the internal energy and pressure. The interval of magnitude variation periods (6 days ≤ II ≤ 31 days) encompasses all currently available estimates of the microvariability periods for LBV stars, suggesting that this type of nonstationarity is pulsational in origin.  相似文献

Excess solar X-ray radiation during solar flares causes an enhancement of ionization in the ionospheric D-region and hence affects sub-ionospherically propagating VLF signal amplitude and phase. VLF signal amplitude perturbation (ΔA) and amplitude time delay (Δt) (vis-á-vis corresponding X-ray light curve as measured by GOES-15) of NWC/19.8 kHz signal have been computed for solar flares which is detected by us during Jan–Sep 2011. The signal is recorded by SoftPAL facility of IERC/ICSP, Sitapur (22° 27′N, 87° 45′E), West Bengal, India. In first part of the work, using the well known LWPC technique, we simulated the flare induced excess lower ionospheric electron density by amplitude perturbation method. Unperturbed D-region electron density is also obtained from simulation and compared with IRI-model results. Using these simulation results and time delay as key parameters, we calculate the effective electron recombination coefficient (α eff ) at solar flare peak region. Our results match with the same obtained by other established models. In the second part, we dealt with the solar zenith angle effect on D-region during flares. We relate this VLF data with the solar X-ray data. We find that the peak of the VLF amplitude occurs later than the time of the X-ray peak for each flare. We investigate this so-called time delay (Δt). For the C-class flares we find that there is a direct correspondence between Δt of a solar flare and the average solar zenith angle Z over the signal propagation path at flare occurrence time. Now for deeper analysis, we compute the Δt for different local diurnal time slots DT. We find that while the time delay is anti-correlated with the flare peak energy flux ? max independent of these time slots, the goodness of fit, as measured by reduced-χ 2, actually worsens as the day progresses. The variation of the Z dependence of reduced-χ 2 seems to follow the variation of standard deviation of Z along the T x -R x propagation path. In other words, for the flares having almost constant Z over the path a tighter anti-correlation between Δt and ? max was observed.  相似文献

The problem of the postflare behaviour of chromospheric emission lines in UV Cet-type flare stars is considered. It is shown that the postflare behaviours of different emission lines differ essentially from one another. In particular, the intensity of hydrogen and helium lines must be greatest at flare peak in continuum, while the intensities of 2800 MgII and H and K CaII lines reach their maximum magnitudes in the intermediate period between two flares. Theoretical postflare light curves are derived for the most important chromospheric lines: helium, hydrogen ionized magnesium and calcium (Figures 8, 9, 11, and 16). The definite regularities in sequence of these light curves are established (Figure 17). Methods of obtaining the mass concentration,n *, in the chromospheres of flare stars based on the analysis of hydrogen and calcium light curves are elaborated. Values ofn * obtained for a group of UV Cet-type flare stars are listed in Table VII. The conditions of the intensification of emission lines during the flare are examined, as is the possibility of the existence of an empirical relationship between chromospheric concentration,n * and flare frequency,f U .  相似文献

The results of JHKLM photometry for Nova Delphini 2013 obtained in the first sixty days after its outburst are analyzed. Analysis of the energy distribution in a wide spectral range (0.36–5 µm) has shown that the source mimics the emission of normal supergiants of spectral types B5 and A0 for two dates near its optical brightness maximum, August 15.94 UT and August 16.86 UT, respectively. The distance to the nova has been estimated to be D ≈ 3 kpc. For these dates, the following parameters have been estimated: the source’s bolometric fluxes ~9 × 10?7 and ~7.2 × 10?7 erg s?1 cm?2, luminosities L ≈ 2.5 × 105 L and ≈2 × 105 L , and radii R ≈ 6.3 × 1012 and ≈1.2 × 1013 cm. The nova’s expansion velocity near its optical brightness maximum was ~700 km s?1. An infrared (IR) excess associated with the formation of a dust shell is shown to have appeared in the energy distribution one month after the optical brightness maximum. The parameters of the dust component have been estimated for two dates of observations, JD2456557.28 (September 21, 2013) and JD2456577.18 (October 11, 2013). For these dates, the dust shell parameters have been estimated: the color temperatures ≈1500 and ≈1200 K, radii ≈6.5 × 1013 and 1.7 × 1014 cm, luminosities ~4 × 103 L and ~1.1 × 104 L , and the dust mass ~1.6 × 1024 and ~1025 g. The total mass of the material ejected in twenty days (gas + dust) could reach ~1.1 × 10?6 M . The rate of dust supply to the nova shell was ~8 × 10?8 M yr?1. The expansion velocity of the dust shell was about 600 km s?1.  相似文献

We present, for the first time, an analysis of seven intense X-ray flares observed from six stars (LAV 796, LAV 1174, SHM2002 3734, 2MASS 02191082+5707324, V553 Car, V557 Car). These stars are located in the region of young open star clusters NGC 869 and IC 2602. These flares detected in the XMM-Newton data show a rapid rise (10–40 min) and a slow decay (20–90 min). The X-ray luminosities during the flares in the energy band 0.3–7.5 keV are in the range of 1029.9 to 1031.7 erg s?1. The strongest flare was observed with the ratio ~13 for count rates at peak of the flare to the quiescent intensity. The maximum temperature during the flares has been found to be ~100 MK. The semi-loop lengths for the flaring loops are estimated to be of the order of 1010 cm. The physical parameters of the flaring structure, the peak density, pressure and minimum magnetic field required to confine the plasma have been derived and found to be consistent with flares from pre-main sequence stars in the Orion and the Taurus-Auriga-Perseus region.  相似文献

We consider the modulation of nonthermal gyrosynchrotron emission from solar flares by the ballooning and radial oscillations of coronal loops. The damping mechanisms for fast magnetoacoustic modes are analyzed. We suggest a method for diagnosing the plasma of flare loops that allows their main parameters to be estimated from peculiarities of the microwave pulsations. Based on observational data obtained with the Nobeyama Radioheliograph (17 GHz) and using a technique developed for the event of May 8, 1998, we determined the particle density n≈3.7×1010 cm?3, the temperature T≈4×107 K, and the magnetic field strength B≈220 G in the region of flare energy release. A wavelet analysis for the solar flare of August 28, 1999, has revealed two main types of microwave oscillations with periods P1≈7, 14 s and P2≈2.4 s, which we attribute to the ballooning and radial oscillations of compact and extended flare loops, respectively. An analysis of the time profile for microwave emission shows evidence of coronal loop interaction. We determined flare plasma parameters for the compact (T≈5.3×107 K, n≈4.8≈1010 cm?3, B≈280 G) and extended (T≈2.1≈107 K, n≈1.2≈1010 cm?3, B≈160 G) loops. The results of the soft X-ray observations are consistent with the adopted model.  相似文献

A detailed investigation on geoeffective CMEs associated with meter to Deca-Hectometer (herein after m- and DH-type-II) wavelengths range type-II radio bursts observed during the period 1997–2005 is presented. The study consists of three steps: i) the characteristics of m-and DH-type-II bursts associated with flares and geoeffective CMEs; ii) characteristics of geo and non-geoeffective radio-loud and quiet CMEs, iii) the relationships between the geoeffective CMEs and flares properties. Interestingly, we found that 92 % of DH-type-II bursts are extension of m-type-II burst which are associated with faster and wider geoeffective DH-CMEs and also associated with longer/stronger flares. The geoeffective CME-associated m-type-II bursts have higher starting frequency, lower ending frequency and larger bandwidth compared to the general population of m-type-II bursts. The geoeffective CME-associated DH-type-II bursts have longer duration (P?1 %), lower ending frequency (P=2 %) and lower drift rates (P=2 %) than that of DH-type-IIs associated with non-geoeffective CMEs. The differences in mean speed of geoeffective DH-CMEs and non-geoeffective DH-CMEs (1327 km?s?1 and 1191 km?s?1, respectively) is statistically insignificant (P=20 %).However, the mean difference in width (339° and 251°, respectively) is high statistical significant (P=0.8 %). The geo-effective general populations of LASCO CMEs speeds (545 km?s?1 and 450 km?s?1, respectively) and widths (252° and 60°, respectively) is higher than the non geo-effective general populations of LASCO CMEs (P=3 % and P=0.02 %, respectively). The geoeffective CMEs associated flares have longer duration, and strong flares than non-geoeffective DH-CMEs associated flares (P=0.8 % and P=1 %, respectively). We have found a good correlation between the geo-effective flare and DH-CMEs properties: i) CMEs speed—acceleration (R=?0.78, where R is a linear correlation coefficient), ii) acceleration—flare peak flux (R=?0.73) and, iii) acceleration—Dst index intensity (R=0.75). The radio-rich CMEs (DH-CMEs) produced more energetic storm than the radio-quiet CMEs (general populations of LASCO CMEs). The above results indicate that the DH-type-II bursts tend to be related with flares and geoeffective CMEs, although there is no physical explanation for the result. If the DH-type-II burst is a continuation of m-type-II burst, it could be a good indicator of geoeffective storms, which has important implications for space weather studies.  相似文献
