Sodium dodecyl sulphate, (SDS) is an anionic surfactant that widely used all over the world. They will eventually end-up and accumulate in household or industrial sewage. Due to their high foaming capabilities, which can cause numerous problems in sewage treatment facilities as well as direct toxic effects on many different organisms in ecosystem; they are generally considered as serious pollutants. In this survey, two different bacteria were isolated from Tehran municipal activated sludge. Biochemical tests as well as 16S rRNA gene sequencing for identification have been applied. After experiments to optimize the pH and temperature for growth of the two bacterial isolates, the extent of SDS utilization was evaluated by HPLC method. Two bacterial isolates show which ability to rapidly and actively degrade SDS upon using it as their sole source of carbon. The identification tests have indicated the two isolates to be Acinetobacter johnsoni and Pseudomonas beteli. The Pseudomonas beteli and Acinetobacter johnsoni isolates were able to degrade 97.2% and 96.4% of the original SDS levels after 10 days of growth; respectively. Mixed culture of the two isolates did not significantly increase SDS utilization, (97.6%). In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that growth of simple bacteria such as Acinetobacter or Pseudomonas in household and industrial sewage can be cost-effective method anionic surfactants elimination.  相似文献

A new cypermethrin degrading strain was isolated from wastewater sludge using enrichment technique. On the basis of morphological, physiological, biochemical characteristics tests and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, the strain was determined to be a Streptomyces species, probably a strain of Streptomyces parvulus, so it was designated as Streptomyces sp. HU-S-01. The strain Streptomyces sp. HU-S-01 is aerobic and optimum growth temperature for the strain was found to be 26–28 °C with initial pH range 6.0-9.0 and pH 7.5 was found to be the optimum. This strain can also completely degrade 3-phenoxybenzoic acid within 96 h at the concentration of 50 mg/L. The kinetic constants Vmax, Km, Kcat and Kcat/ Km of enzyme for cypermethrin were 1.236 ?mol/min, 6.418 ?mol/mL, 13.493 min and 2.102 mL/mol.min, respectively. The degradation products of cypermethrin were identified using gas chromatographmass spectrometric (GC-MS) analysis. The degradation pathway followed by HU-S-01 involves oxidative as well as hydrolyzing. Biodegradation ability of strain Streptomyces sp. HU-S-01 without toxic byproducts reveals its potential for further study as a biological agent for the remediation of soil, water or crops, contaminated with cypermethrin.  相似文献

The biodegradability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as naphthalene, fluorene, anthracene and phenanthrene by a halotolerant bacterial consortium isolated from marine environment was investigated. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons degrading bacterial consortium was enriched from mixture saline water samples collected from Chennai (Port of Chennai, salt pan), India. The consortium potently degraded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (> 95%) at 30g/L of sodium chloride concentration in 4 days. The consortium was able to degrade 39 to 45% of different polycyclic hydrocarbons at 60 g/L NaCl concentration. Due to increase in salinity, the percent degradation decreased. To enhance polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons degradation, yeast extract was added as an additional substrate at 60g/L NaCl concentration. After the addition of yeast extract, the consortium degraded > 74 % of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons at 60 g/L NaCl concentration in 4 days. The consortium was also able to degrade PAHs at different concentrations (5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 ppm) with 30 g/L of NaCl concentration. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons degrading halotolerant bacterial consortium consists of three bacterial strains, namely Ochrobactrum sp., Enterobacter cloacae and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia.  相似文献

The relationship of atrazine-degrading bacteria Arthrobacter sp. HB-5 and nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer to atrazine degradation and detoxification in soil was investigated in a microcosm pot experiment. Treatments of soil containing atrazine (AW) with atrazine plus strain HB-5 alone (A), together with atrazine and strain HB-5 plus nitrogen alone (AN), phosphate alone (AP), and nitrogen and phosphate together (ANP) were used to investigate atrazine degradation and ecotoxicity. Atrazine residues in the soils were determined by high performance liquid chromatography, while soil ecotoxicity was tested by micronucleus (MN) assay of Vicia faba root tip cells. The results showed that degradation of atrazine in soil could be facilitated by the treatment of strain HB-5 as well as strain HB-5 application with the addition of nitrogenous and/or phosphorus fertilizers. The degradation rates varied as the following: ANP > AP > AN > A > AW in different treatments. At 10 days post treatment, degradation efficiency of over 90 % was achieved in all strain HB-5 treatments except AW, but with no statistically significant differences found between treatments. Soil ecotoxicity was significantly reduced along with the degradation of atrazine by strain HB-5, and the ecotoxicity of soils with applied fertilizer was below that of treatments without fertilizer. On the seventh day and later, the MN frequencies of all treatments were decreased in the control levels except for AW. Thus, adjusting soil nutrient contents not only promoted strain HB-5 to remove atrazine in soil but also mitigated soil ecotoxicity effects caused by atrazine. These results are important keystones for future remediation of atrazine-contaminated soils.  相似文献

The solubilization and degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil was amending by many microorganisms. One of these microorganisms is Bacteria, which were isolated from different contaminated areas at Kafer El Zyat City, Gharbia governorate, Egypt. Wastes samples were collected and bacterial isolation was carried out using enriched media technique. More than 78 isolates were obtained and the degradation capability was examined for all of them. Fingerprinting was carried out for all the isolates using REP-PCR and the obtained results grouped them into 10 groups. Two bacterial strains from the isolated bacteria were showed high degradation talent and specificity for the type of the polyaromatic hydrocarbons (naphthalene or phenol). Pseudomonas putida (DQ399838) and Flavobacterium sp. (DQ398100) were identified and their degradation capacity was examined using real time method. Strain P. putida showed degradation rate for naphthalene reached to 50% after 20 hours from inoculation. However, Flavobacterium sp. reached 50% rate of degradation after 17 hours from inoculation time. Whenever, the soil degradation rate can be enhanced by adding these adapted bacteria to the soil and amendment of these bacteria which will help in bioremediation technology.  相似文献

The accumulation of plastics in the environment is raising great concerns with respect to long-term environmental, economic and waste management problems. The aim of the present research was to investigate the biodegradability of starch blended polyvinyl chloride films in soil burial and controlled laboratory experiments using selective fungal isolates. Clear surface aberrations as color change and minor disintegration in polyvinyl chloride films were observed after 90 days and later confirmed through scanning electron microscopy. The fungal strains showing prominent growth and adherence on plastic films were isolated. One of the strains showing maximum activity was selected and identified as Phanerochaete chrysosporium PV1 by rDNA sequencing. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses indicated considerable structural changes and transformation in films in terms of appearance of new peaks at 3,077 cm?1 (corresponding to alkenes) and decrease in intensity of peaks at 2,911 cm?1 (C–H stretching). It was supported with a significant decrease in the molecular weight of polymer film from 80,275 to 78,866 Da (treated) through Gel permeation chromatography in shake flask experiment. Moreover, the biodegradation of starch blended polyvinyl chloride films was confirmed through release of higher CO2 (7.85 g/l) compared to control (2.32 g/l) in respirometric method. So fungal strain P. chrysosporium PV1 has great potential for use in bioremediation of plastic waste.  相似文献

Nineteen oil samples from Silesian Unit of the eastern Carpathian Overthrust have been characterised geochemically in order to determine the causes of compositional differences among them and elucidating the processes responsible for their differences. Some of analysed crude oils have undergone post-emplacement alteration in the reservoir such as biodegradation and evaporative fractionation. This explains much of the chemical and physical properties variability across individual fields from one tectonic unit. Geochemical correlation based on biomarker distributions showed a close relationship between all oils (included biodegraded oils). However, data based on the whole oil GC analysis of selected oils suggest that the process of evaporative fractionation may change the composition of lower molecular weight hydrocarbons of the oils in this region. This paper outlines the probable mechanisms for oil mixing in the region and describes how this can lead to observable lateral differences in the composition of oils.  相似文献

A 10?5 M (2.2 ppm) concentration of atrazine (2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-s-triazine) reduced the rate of photosynthesis, chlorophyll content, and cell numbers in unialgal cultures of Nitzschia sigma Grun. and Thalassiosira fluviatilis Hustedt isolated from a salt marsh habitat. Results with lower atrazine concentrations indicated an ability to maintain chlorophyll production and cell division with reduced photosynthesis. The effects of a 10?5 M concentration of atrazine in unialgal cultures were also evident in microecosystems and in the field at the same concentration, although atrazine effects were less severe in the field than in microecosystems or cultures. Cell number and productivity of the diatoms from microecosystems not treated with atrazine agreed well with field data and previously published data. Diatom species diversity was not affected by 10?5 M atrazine in microecosystems or in the field but the number of Cymatosira belgica Grun. was increased. Diatom assemblages in atrazine-treated vs non-treated microecosystems were very similar (SIMI>0.838). Results were less conclusive in the field but the trend was toward a lower level of similarity. Based on the least effect level of atrazine to diatoms, the maximum safe level for atrazine in the salt marsh is 10 ppb.  相似文献

The removal of petroleum and petroleum-based products from the environment is of great importance. The objectives of this study were to investigate the most suitable physiological conditions and the effects of additional carbon, nitrogen and surfactant sources on petroleum biodegradation by Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC13883 isolated from drilling fluid and to evaluate petroleum biodegradation with detailed hydrocarbon analysis by GC–MS. The results indicated that the highest biodegradation rate of 66.5% for K. pneumoniae was obtained under the conditions of pH 7, petroleum concentration 1% (v/v) and 7-day incubation at 150 rpm and 25 °C, proving to be the most effective physical conditions for petroleum biodegradation in this present study. Additional sources such as Triton X: 100, glucose and yeast extract significantly enhanced the petroleum biodegradation of K. pneumoniae to 68, 71 and 72.5%, respectively. In the last stage of this study, biodegradation rates were above 90% for hydrocarbons ranging from C10 and C20, above 70% for hydrocarbons ranging from C21 and C22 and above 40% for hydrocarbons ranging from C31 and C32. In conclusion, oil field adapted K. pneumoniae could efficiently degrade short-, medium- and long-chain alkanes in petroleum and thus is a potential source for advanced petroleum treatment.  相似文献

 A field study from October 1989 through July 1992, conducted on a 4.1-km2 area in south-central Wisconsin, USA, examined the distributions of atrazine and its chlorinated metabolites in groundwater and related those distributions to the groundwater flow system. MODFLOW and PATH3D were used to assess bedrock-aquifer susceptibility to contamination. Estimated travel time from water table to bedrock surface ranges from <0.25 to >512 yr. Spatial distribution of the estimates demonstrates that increased travel time to bedrock can result from the presence of shallow surface-water bodies, greater depths to bedrock, and smaller hydraulic conductivities. Estimated travel times to local domestic wells are inversely related to atrazine and desethylated atrazine concentrations observed in water from those wells. The potential impact of long-term atrazine use on aquifer water quality was investigated using MT3D in two best-case scenarios. Uncertainties associated with predicted atrazine concentrations at various depths and times were estimated. For shallow groundwater, widespread violations of Wisconsin's current preventive action limit were predicted, but with large uncertainty stemming from uncertain estimates of input parameter values. The simulations indicate, however, that moderate inputs at the water table are very unlikely to produce violations of Wisconsin's standards deeper in the aquifer. Nummulites multiplicutiospiralis n.sp.is described and illustrated for both generations from a claystone of Lutetian age in the Middle Eocene Qarara Formation, Maghagha,Nile valley,Egypt.Previously considered to be Nummulites gizehensis,we describe this form as a new species based on diameter of the test and protoconch sizes,septal shape and granulations.The primary feature of this species is spiral multiplication,seen in spiral section.The species is also characterized morphologically by lenticular to flat tests with rounded periphery,wrinkled to broadly meandering septal filaments and few granules on the periphery in microspheric forms.The granules are spirally arranged on the septal filaments in megalospheric forms.Chambers are longer than high and the spire is irregular.The new taxon belongs to the Nummulites partschi Group,Subgroup N.gizehensis.Reflexive coiling in the spiral may develop through ontogeny as in N.rollandi,the species which was considered to be an index species in the southern Tethys (Boukhary et al.,1982 and Boukhary et al.2010).The characters of the new species,as well as its retrogenesis and reflexive coiling,should be further studied in general in Nummulites spp.,to understand the importance of such characters phylogenetically.  相似文献

A series of confirmed and suspected dammed palaeo‐lake sedimentary successions is scattered within the middle Yarlung Tsangpo valley in Tibet. However, the chronology, the genesis of the dam and its location, the water level of the dammed lake, the process of dam failure and the spatiotemporal relationships between the sedimentary successions remain controversial. Here, we focus on one sedimentary succession of the suspected dammed palaeo‐lake at Xigazê. We measured the grain‐size distribution, magnetic susceptibility, organic and inorganic carbon content, and δ13Corg and δ15Ntotal ratios of the sediments. In addition, we measured the δ18Oshell and δ13Cshell values of modern and fossil Radix sp. shells, and the δ18Owater and δ13CDIC values of the ambient water with different hydrological regimes. The results indicate that the δ18Oshell values of modern Radix sp. and the δ18Owater of the ambient water body significantly depend on its hydrological status. In addition, a strong positive relationship was observed between δ18Oshell values of modern Radix sp. shells and the δ18Owater of the ambient water on the Tibetan Plateau. According to this correlation, the δ18Owater values of the palaeo‐water body are reconstructed using the δ18Oshell values of Radix sp. fossil shells in the Xigazê section. Further, based on the δ18Oshell values of fossil Radix sp., the reconstructed δ18Owater of the palaeo‐water body and the specific habitats of Radix sp., we infer that the sedimentary succession in the Xigazê broad valley was mainly formed within the backwater terminal zone of a dammed palaeo‐lake and that the elevation of the water level of the lake was approximately 3811 m a.s.l. AMS 14C dating indicates that the deposits of the dammed palaeo‐lake were formed at about 33–22 cal. ka BP. Finally, the presence of Radix sp. fossil shells within the Xigazê section suggests that Radix sp. survived the late Last Glacial Period on the Tibetan Plateau.  相似文献
