This paper studies the properties of self-gravity of accretion discs around supermassive black holes. With integration on the thin disc configuration, this paper has calculated the radial and vertical components of self-gravity of accretion discs. The discussion mainly concentrates on the radial component, and the results are briefly as follows: for accretion discs around supermassive black holes (M10 8–1010 M). At the distance where (R/R g)105–104, the radial component of self-gravity dominates over the central one where the dynamical structure of the accretion discs completely differs from that of Keplerian disc. A turbulence driven by radial self-gravity instability as a kind of energy source is proposed. This paper has two criteria for the comparison of magnitude between the self-gravity of accretion discs and the gravity of the central black hole, from which an analytic estimation for the outer radius of the accretion discs has been derived. The results of this paper may be used to explain the accretion discs of quasars and AGNs.This research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献

We constructed a grid of relativistic models for standard high-relative-luminosity accretion α-disks around supermassive Kerr black holes (BHs) and computed X-ray spectra for their hot, effectively optically thin inner parts by taking into account general-relativity effects. They are known to be heated to high (~106–109 K) temperatures and to cool down through the Comptonization of intrinsic thermal radiation. Their spectra are power laws with an exponential cutoff at high energies; i.e., they have the same shape as those observed in active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Fitting the observed X-ray spectra of AGNs with computed spectra allowed us to estimate the fundamental parameters of BHs (their mass and Kerr parameter) and accretion disks (luminosity and inclination to the line of sight) in 28 AGNs. We show that the Kerr parameter for BHs in AGNs is close to unity and that the disk inclination correlates with the Seyfert type of AGN, in accordance with the unification model of activity. The estimated BH masses Mx are compared with the masses Mrev determined by the reverberation mapping technique. For AGNs with luminosities close to the Eddington limit, these masses agree and the model under consideration may be valid for them. For low-relative-luminosity AGNs, the differences in masses increase with decreasing relative luminosity and their X-ray emission cannot be explained by this model.  相似文献

We develop the method that allows to estimate ultra high energy cosmic ray (UHECR) production in active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We used the model developed by Neronov et al. (New J. Phys. 11:065015, 2009) and estimated the magnetic field strength near the innermost stable orbit in an accretion disk and at the horizon radius of a supermassive black hole (SMBH) using the data of polarimetric observations of broad lines emission. It allows to estimate the kinetic power of the relativistic jet at the base of Blandford–Znajek mechanism. In a result we estimated the cosmic ray power for a number of AGNs with known values of SMBH spins.  相似文献

A high density of massive dark objects (MDOs), probably supermassive black holes, in the centres of nearby galaxies has been inferred from recent observations. There are various indications that much of the accretion responsible for producing these objects took place in dust-enshrouded active galactic nuclei (AGNs). If so, then measurements of the intensity of background radiation and the source counts in the far-infrared and submillimetre wavebands constrain the temperature of dust in these AGNs. An additional constraint comes from the hard X-ray background, if this is produced by accretion. One possibility is that the dust shrouds surrounding the accreting AGNs are cold, about 30 K. In this event, the dusty AGNs could be some subset of the population of luminous distant sources discovered at 850 μm using the SCUBA array on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope, as proposed by Almaini, Lawrence & Boyle. An alternative is that the dust shrouds surrounding the accreting AGNs are much hotter (>60 K). These values are closer to the dust temperatures of a number of well-studied low-redshift ultraluminous galaxies that are thought to derive their power from accretion. If the local MDO density is close to the maximum permitted, then cold sources cannot produce this density without the submillimetre background being overproduced if they accrete at high radiative efficiency, and thus a hot population is required. If the dust-enshrouded accretion occurred at similar redshifts to that taking place in unobscured optical quasars, then a significant fraction of the far-infrared background radiation measured by COBE at 140 μm, but very little of the submillimetre background at 850 μm, may have been produced by hot dust-enshrouded AGNs which may have already been seen in recent Chandra X-ray surveys.

Summary. Recent papers dealing with the most controversial aspects of AGNs are reviewed. They suggest interesting conclusions: all Seyferts can be described by a single parameter, the X-ray column density; radio loud AGNs may host a rapidly spinning black hole and radio quiet AGNs a slowly spinning black hole; high-ionization AGNs (Seyfert galaxies and QSOs) contain an optically thick, geometrically thin accretion disk, while low-ionization AGNs (Liners) contain an optically thin, geometrically thick accretion disk; a number of blazars have been classified as BLLs on the basis of insufficient data; most objects with weak broad emission lines are in fact HPQs; many objects have been called Liners although they are not AGNs but rather the result of stellar activity; type 2 QSOs exist, but are quite inconspicuous if radio quiet. Optically “changing-look” active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are a class of objects that exhibit appearance or disappearance of broad lines. Recent studies have shown that these “changing-look” activities very likely result from the accretion activities of the central supermassive black holes. Large variation of the accretion rate might cause jet ejection and fading events, thus lead to a certain variability of observational radio properties. From the published literature, 74 “changing-look” AGNs and 90 “changing-look” AGNs candidates identified in optical observations were collected. Based on this largest, complex, and incomplete sample to date, the radio properties of “changing-look” AGNs were investigated. The radio counterparts of 51 “changing-look” AGNs (including 21 candidates) were discovered from the all-sky surveys conducted by the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) and Very Large Array (VLA) covering the frequency range of 0.9–3 GHz. This corresponds to a detection rate of about 41 percent, which is similar to general AGNs. The radio spectral indices between 0.9 and 1.4 GHz and between 1.4 and 3 GHz were calculated, which suggest that these “changing-look” AGNs tend to have flatter radio spectra than normal AGNs. This statistical result indicates that “changing-look” AGNs might host some young, compact, and faint radio jets.  相似文献

We study the energetics of the accretion-induced outflow and then plausible jet around black holes/compact objects using a newly developed disc-outflow coupled model. Inter-connecting dynamics of outflow and accretion essentially upholds the conservation laws. The energetics depend strongly on the viscosity parameter α and the cooling factor f which exhibit several interesting features. The bolometric luminosities of ultra-luminous X-ray binaries (e.g. SS433) and family of highly luminous AGNs and quasars can be reproduced by the model under the super-Eddington accretion flows. Under appropriate conditions, low-luminous AGNs (e.g. Sagittarius A1) also fit reasonably well with the luminosity corresponding to a sub-Eddington accretion flow with f1.  相似文献

It is now agreed that mergers play an essential role in the evolution of galaxies and therefore that mergers of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) must have been common. We see the consequences of past supermassive binary black holes (SMBs) in the light profiles of so-called ‘core ellipticals’ and a small number of SMBs have been detected. However, the evolution of SMBs is poorly understood. Theory predicts that SMBs should spend a substantial amount of time orbiting at velocities of a few thousand kilometers per second. If the SMBs are surrounded by gas observational effects might be expected from accretion onto one or both of the SMBHs. This could result in a binary Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) system. Like a single AGN, such a system would emit a broad band electromagnetic spectrum and broad and narrow emission lines. The broad emission spectral lines emitted from AGNs are our main probe of the geometry and physics of the broad line region (BLR) close to the SMBH. There is a group of AGNs that emit very broad and complex line profiles, showing two displaced peaks, one blueshifted and one redshifted from the systemic velocity defined by the narrow lines, or a single such peak. It has been proposed that such line shapes could indicate an SMB system. We discuss here how the presence of an SMB will affect the BLRs of AGNs and what the observational consequences might be.We review previous claims of SMBs based on broad line profiles and find that they may have non-SMB explanations as a consequence of a complex BLR structure. Because of these effects it is very hard to put limits on the number of SMBs from broad line profiles. It is still possible, however, that unusual broad line profiles in combination with other observational effects (line ratios, quasi-periodical oscillations, spectropolarimetry, etc.) could be used for SMBs detection. Some narrow lines (e.g., [O III]) in some AGNs show a double-peaked profile. Such profiles can be caused by streams in the Narrow Line Region (NLR), but may also indicate the presence of a kilo-parsec scale mergers. A few objects indicated as double-peaked narrow line emitters are confirmed as kpc-scale margers, but double-peaked narrow line profiles are mostly caused by the complex NLR geometry. We briefly discuss the expected line profile of broad Fe Kα that probably originated in the accretion disk(s) around SMBs. This line may also be very complex and indicate the complex disk geometry or/and an SMB presence. Finally we consider rare configurations where a SMB system might be gravitationally lensed by a foreground galaxy, and discuss the expected line profiles in these systems.  相似文献

Proceeded from the gravitation equations proposed by one of authors it was argued in a previous paper that there can exist supermassive compact configurations of degenerated Fermi‐gas without events horizon. In the present paper we consider the stability of these objects by a method like the one used in the theory of stellar structure. It is shown that the configurations are stable.  相似文献

Recently, Sloan Digital Sky Survey successfully carried out the reverberation mapping of a sky area, aiming to test the R ? L relation that has been already widely used. Here, R is the responsivity-weighted radius of the broad line region, and L is the optical luminosity at 5100 Å. Two results have been obtained from the data in the first year: (1) The time lags of AGNs (Active Galactic Nuclei) with a high accretion rate are much shorter than that estimated from the R ? L relation, which confirmed the results of reverberation mapping observations made by the Lijiang 2.4 meter telescope. (2) Some AGNs with a lower accretion rate also have very short time lags. The shortening of the time lags of the AGNs with a low accretion rate is caused by the retrograde accretion of black holes. This result has verified from observations the theoretical prediction made by Wang et al. (2014). The discovery of the black holes with a retrograde accretion has important significance, it indicates that the cosmological evolution of the black holes in quasars is implemented via the inherently random accretion.  相似文献

Highly ionized gas has been detected at large distances from the nucleus in several classes of active galaxies. There is evidence that photoionization by the active nucleus may be the most relevant mechanism for the observed ionization. The spatial distribution of such gas has a conical shape, whose vertex points towards the nucleus and the axis is closely oriented with the radio structure. This scenario suggests collimation or anisotropy of the ionizing continuum.A geometrically thick accretion disk may produce such ionizing spectrum. We use a simple model for a thick accretion disk around a supermassive black hole and a photoionization code to make theoretical predictions. Results are compared with the observational data (for radio and Seyfert galaxies).Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

Here we present an overview of some of the most significant observational and theoretical studies of the broad Fe Kα spectral line, which is believed to originate from the innermost regions of relativistic accretion disks around central supermassive black holes of galaxies. The most important results of our investigations in this field are also listed. All these investigations indicate that the broad Fe Kα line is a powerful tool for studying the properties of the supermassive black holes (such as their masses and spins), space–time geometry (metric) in their vicinity, their accretion physics, probing the effects of their strong gravitational fields, and for testing the certain predictions of General Relativity.  相似文献

The first set of supermassive black hole mass estimates, published from 1977 to 1984 by E.A. Dibai, are shown to be in excellent agreement with recent reverberation-mapping estimates. Comparison of the masses of 17 AGNs covering a mass range from about 106 to 109 M shows that the Dibai mass estimates agree with reverberation-mapping mass estimates to significantly better than ±0.3 dex and were, on average, only 0.14 dex (∼40%) systematically lower than masses obtained from reverberation mapping. This surprising agreement with the results of over a quarter of a century ago has important implication for the structure and kinematics of AGNs and implies that type-1 AGNs are very similar. Our results give strong support to the use of the single-epoch-spectrum (Dibai) method for investigating the co-evolution of supermassive black holes and their host galaxies. Compact remnants – stellar mass black holes and neutron stars formed in the inner few parsec of galactic centres are predicted to sink into the central parsec due to dynamical friction on low-mass stars, forming a high concentration cusp. Same physical region may also contain very high-density molecular clouds and accretion discs that are needed to fuel supermassive black hole (SMBH) activity. Here we estimate gas capture rates on to the cusp of stellar remnants, and the resulting X-ray luminosity, as a function of the accretion disc mass. At low disc masses, most compact objects are too dim to be observable, whereas in the high disc case most of them are accreting at their Eddington rates. We find that for low accretion disc masses, compact remnant cusps may be more luminous than the central SMBHs. This 'diffuse' emission may be of importance for local moderately bright active galactic nuclei (AGNs), especially low-luminosity AGNs. We also briefly discuss how this expected emission can be used to put constraints on the black hole cusp near our Galactic Centre.  相似文献

I use the fact that the radiation emitted by the accretion disk of supermassive black hole can heat up the surrounding gas in the protogalaxy to achieve hydrostatic equilibrium during the galaxy formation. The correlation between the black hole mass M BH and velocity dispersion σ thus naturally arises. The result generally agrees with empirical fittings from observational data, even with M BH ≤106 M . This model provides a clear picture on how the properties of the galactic supermassive black holes are connected with the kinetic properties of the galactic bulges.  相似文献

We describe a new method to estimate the mass of black holes in Ultraluminous X-ray Sources (ULXs). The method is based on the recently discovered 'variability plane', populated by Galactic stellar-mass black-hole candidates (BHCs) and supermassive active galactic nuclei (AGNs), in the parameter space defined by the black-hole mass, accretion rate and characteristic frequency. We apply this method to the two ULXs from which low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations have been discovered, M82 X-1 and NGC 5408 X-1. For both sources we obtain a black-hole mass in the range  100–1300 M  , thus providing evidence for these two sources to host an intermediate-mass black hole.  相似文献

A review is presented of the earliest stages of protostellar evolution. Observations of prestellar cores, which are believed to represent the initial conditions for protostellar collapse, depart significantly from the scale-free density distribution which is usually taken as the starting point for the formation of a low-mass protostar. Pre-stellar cores are observed to have radial density profiles which have flat inner regions, steepening towards their edges. This is seen to qualitatively match the predictions of the Bonnor-Ebert stability criterion for pressure-bounded self-gravitating gas clouds. From these initial conditions, theoretical modelling of cores threaded by magnetic fields predicts that quasi-static evolution by the process of ambipolar diffusion will lead to a significantly different starting point for collapse than the static singular isothermal sphere. This departure from a scale-free density distribution for the initial conditions has recently been shown to produce an ensuing protostellar collapse which has a non-constant accretion rate. Recently published observations of low-mass protostars in the Ophiuchi cluster are demonstrated to be consistent with such a non-constant protostellar mass accretion rate, contrary to the standard protostellar collapse model. Instead, the data appear consistent with an initially high accretion rate, which subsequently decays. The initial phase of high accretion rate is labelled the main accretion phase, during which 50 per cent of the circumstellar envelope mass is accreted in 10 per cent of the total accretion time, and which is equated observationally with Class 0 objects. The subsequent phase with roughly an order of magnitude lower accretion rate is labelled the late accretion phase, during which the remainder of the envelope mass is accreted in the remaining 90 per cent of the total accretion time, at an order of magnitude lower accretion rate, and which is equated observationally with Class I objects. The growth of circumstellar discs begins in the Class 0 stage, and proceeds through the Class I and II stages. Published data of the Taurus star-forming region currently available appear also to be consistent with this scenario.  相似文献
