EG And is a S-type symbiotic star. Presented are UV observations made by IUE from 1978 to 1991. From these observations the electron density and the electron temperature were obtained. The size of the Heii emitting region was estimated as 7.3R. Line and continuum variations confirm the binary nature of EG And.  相似文献

The H observations of a selected sample of bright Be stars are presented. The available infrared observations at K band (2.2 m) of these stars have been used to find the infrared excess emission. The analysis of the combined data show thatL H, the luminosity of the H emission line, is proportional toL IR, the luminosity of the infrared excess emission. The linear correlation betweenL IR andL H shows that both the infrared excess and the H line originate in a common region. It is also detected that the infrared excess emission is produced throughout the whole envelope whereas the H is emitted in some defined region of the circumstellar (CS) envelope.  相似文献

In order to determine the mass-ratio distribution of spectroscopic binary stars, the selection effects that govern the observations of this class of binary systems are investigated. The selection effects are modelled numerically and analytically. The results of the models are compared to the data inThe Eighth Catalogue of the Orbital Elements of Spectroscopic Binary Stars (DAO8) compiled by Battenet al. (1989). The investigations involve binary systems with Main-Sequence primary components only, in order to avoid confusion of evolutionary and selection effects.For single-lined spectroscopic binaries (SBI) it is found that the mass ratios (q=M sec/M prim) in general adhere to a distribution q q -2 forq>q 0, withq 0=0.3. The observations are consistent with a distribution that is flat forq<q 0. The turn-over value varies fromq 0=0.3 for systems with B-type primaries, toq 0=0.55 for systems with K-type primaries. The semi-major axesa 1 are distributed according to a (a 1)a 1 -a with an average value of a =1.3. The power varies from a =1.7 for systems with B-type primaries to a =0 for systems with K-type primaries. The eccentricitiese of the orbits of SBI systems are distributed according to e (e)e -1.For double-lined spectroscopic binary stars (SBII) it is found that the shape of theq-distribution, as derived from observations, is almost entirely determined by selection effects. It is shown that the distribution is compatible with theq-distribution found for SBI systems. A sub-sample, consisting of the SBII systems from DAO8 with magnitudesm V 5 m , is less hampered by selection effects, and shows the same shape of theq-distribution as the SBI systems, at theq-interval (0.67, 1).It is estimated that 19–45% of the stars in the solar neighbourhood are spectroscopic binary systems.  相似文献

The physical state of ionized gas in NGC 7793 was studied by spectroscopical means: the electronic temperature isT e104K while the electronic density ranges fromN e1400 cm–3 in the nucleus toN e1000 cm–3 in the emission regions. There are also indications of an excess of nitrogen in the nucleus. TheM/L ratio suggests for NGC 7793, a high proportion of young objects quite uniformly distributed over its body, with a slight concentration towards the nuclear region.  相似文献

The brightness distribution of the quiet Sun at 8.6 mm wavelength is synthesized from off-meridian observations using an eight element east-west interferometer with a maximum base line of 16.38 m (1913). The observed brightness distribution is practically flat from the disk center to the optical limb. The effective radius of the nearly uniform component is 1.01 R . If the limb brightening is present, the brightening located between 0.95 R and 1.01 R , and the total flux density of the limb brightening is less than 1% of the total flux density of the Sun. In addition to the nearly uniform component there exists a coronal component just outside the optical limb.  相似文献

An analysis of the results of observations of the symbiotic star Z And has shown that no definite model can be derived at present on their basis. If the hot component is essentially an accreting white dwarf with a hydrogen-burning shell source, then the gas envelope must be optically thin for Lc-emission and itsT e must be in the neighborhood of 2.6×104K. And if the hot component is a Main-Sequence star with an accretion disk around it, then it is classified with red dwarfs. The electron temperature of the gas envelope must be 1.5×104K. The luminosity of the hot component at the minimum of its visual brightness is only a few times lower than its Eddington limit. Therefore, as the accretion rate goes up, the initial increase in its brightness (U1 m .5), unaccompanied by any perceptible changes in the spectrum of Z And, will be followed by disintegration of the regular disk and flare of the star in the visible range. In the same model, partial eclipses of the hot source must occur. They seem to be observable on the star's light curve in theU band. Substitution of a solar-type star for the first-named component in the binary red dwarf + red giant system will lead to a significant decrease in the excitation of the combination spectrum.  相似文献

We study a theory for the ninth satellite of Saturn, Phoebe, based on the literal solution we have obtained in the main problem of the lunar theory.These series were computed by solving, by successive approximations, the Lagrange's equations expressed in variables, functions of the elliptic elements.We may consider the case of Phoebe simpler than a lunar case because we seek less precision (1/10 geocentric) than in the Lunar case, although the eccentricity of Phoebe is stronger.Main problem: our series are computed to the complete seventh order and a great part of the perturbations of the eighth and ninth order, where we have attributed to the small lunar parameters the order 1 tom 0=n/n 0,e 0,e, sin (i 0/2), the order 2 to 0=(a 0/a)((M 1–)/(M 1+M)) and the order 4 toµ 0(a 0/a)M 1 M/M 1 2M 2.In the case of Phoebe,µ 0 equal zero and ±0 is the ratioa 0/a.We study the further development of these series by using, instead of parameterm 0, the quantity m 0=n/n 0m 1 wherem 1 is an approached value ofm 0, in order to accelerate the convergence of the series with respect tom 0.Comparison with a numerical integration we are adjusting a numerical integration to the observations. We have already more than 100 observations, for the period 1900–1957.At first, we compare the series of the main problem to a numerical integration of the Keplerian problem.

High resolution OVRO CO 1–0 observations of the inner 30 in the LINER galaxy NGC 5218 reveal the presence of a double centrally peaked molecular concentration with extensions out to a radius of 12. The molecular mass detected is 2.4 × 109 M and the gas surface density is high, 3000 M pc square in the inner 500 pc. The SFR is 2–3 M yr–1 and the SFE is 13, which are low or moderate values for that gas surface density. We interpret the inner feature as a rotating molecular ring with a radius of 200 pc. We furthermore suggest that the LINER activity in NGC 5218 is not caused by an aging starburst, but by a buried AGN.  相似文献

Starting November 1999 we are carrying out simultaneous seeing observations with the Solar Differential Image Motion Monitor (S-DIMM) at the Fuxian Lake station of the Yunnan Observatory and a solar scintillometer of the type used in the recent site survey by one of us (Beckers et al., 1997). The purpose was to compare the two methods of assessing the daytime atmospheric seeing for a lake site. We report here the first results of this comparison. We find that the relation between the seeing as measured by the S-DIMM (the Fried parameter r 0) and the scintillation in the solar irradiance (I) differs greatly from the relation found by Seykora (1993) for NSO/Sac Peak. We conclude that the I measurements give a good indication for the amount of near-Earth seeing but that they are a poor proxy for the total atmospheric seeing. We interpret the simultaneous (r 0, I) observations in terms of an atmospheric seeing model and find good quantitative agreement with a model in which a fraction () of the seeing originated near the Earth (ground or water) and the rest (1–) originates at higher layers. For lake sites is small all day and the seeing is determined primarily by the refractive index variations at higher atmospheric layers. For land sites is small in the early morning but rapidly increases as the day progresses, near-Earth seeing dominating there most of the time.  相似文献

We present observations of Ovi 1032 Å line profiles obtained with the SUMER instrument on SOHO extending from the solar disk to 1.5 R above the limb in the north polar coronal hole. Variations of the intensity and linewidth in the polar plume and inter-plume regions are investigated. We find an anti-correlation between the intensity and the linewidth in the plume and inter-plume regions with detailed plume structures been seen out to 1.5 R . Possible implications regarding the magnetic topologies of these two regions and related heating mechanisms are discussed. The Ovi linewidth measurements are combined with UVCS output to provide an overview of its variations with height extending up to 3.5 R . We find a linear increase of the linewidth from 1 to 1.2 R , then a plateau followed by a sharp increase around 1.5 R .  相似文献

Evolutionary population synthesis models have been built to study the properties of the starforming processes taking place in starburst regions. BothZ andZ /10 stellar evolutionary tracks have been used to take into account that starburst galaxies are generally metal deficient. A very small time step allows us to follow the evolution of the cluster even during very short phases. Three parameters have been synthesized: the ratio of the Siiv (1400 Å) andCiv (1550 Å) UV absorption lines, that characterize the predominant massive stars in the cluster, the ratio of the WRbump over the H luminosity, tracer of WR stars and the FIR luminosity, directly related to the extinction due to dust in the cluster. The predictions have been compared with observations of the burst taking place in the galaxy Mkn 710. The burst age is 5–6 Myr. The stars seem to have formed simultaneously with a mass spectrum whose slope is in the range (1,2) for massive stars. The upper mass limit has to be 60M . We have performed a systematic study of a sample of 17 starburst galaxies searching for differences in the star formation process that may be related to different metallicities or morphological types.Based on observations with the International Ultraviolet Explorer collected at the Villafranca Satellite Tracking Station of the European Space Agency.  相似文献

The paper deals with the excitation of the helium singlet level 21 P in the homogeneous and filamentary models of quiescent prominences with following parameters: the optical thickness at the limit of helium Lyman continuum 1c M = 0.1–100, T e = 7000 K, n e = 5 × 1010 cm–3. Assuming a model He atom with seven discrete levels (11 S, 23 S, 21 S, 23 P, 21 P, 33 D, 31 D) and the continuum the steady state equations for the levels 23 S, 21 P and the continuum have been solved together with the radiative transfer equations for the line 584 Å and the continuum 504 Å. The variations with depth of the functions n 2 3 S /n 1 1 S (1 c), n 2 1 P /n 1 1 S (1c ), and n + He n e /n 1 1 S(1c ) as well as the intensities of the triplet (D3, 10830 Å) and singlet (16678, 20581 Å) lines have been calculated. Comparison with observations leads to the following conclusions: (1) The line intensities calculated for filamentary models of prominences agree better with observations than those for homogeneous ones. (2) The helium level 21 P is excited by diffuse field 584 Å being formed by recombinations and spontaneous transitions 21 P – 11 S and escaping from the prominence into the space between the filaments and to the surface. (3) Underpopulation of the singlet level 21 P may be explained by combination of weak excitation mechanism (recombinations and formation of the diffuse field 584 Å) and strong deexcitation mechanism (spontaneous transitions into the level 11 S).  相似文献

A fully relativistic electron maser is proposed for the explanation of certain non-thermal solar and stellar radio bursts. This mechanism (maser synchrotron) is based on a gyroresonant interaction between waves and electrons of high energies and uses the free energy contained in an electronic distribution function that peaks for energies around 1 MeV.By a calculation of the growth rates of the three electromagnetic modes, we show that the X-mode prevails for values of p/ cup to 2 or 3. This result is very different from the standard cyclotron maser case where such values of p/ clead to quench the X-mode growth. Hence, the synchrotron maser instability appears to be a direct and efficient amplification process for considerably larger physical conditions than the cyclotron maser. In addition, the radiation, emitted over the second gyroharmonic, freely propagates without a strong reabsorbtion at the 2 clayer. Theoretical Ca X electron temperature sensitive emission line ratios, derived using electron excitation rates interpolated from accurateR-matrix calculations, are presented forR 1 =I(419.74 )/I(574.02 ,),R 2 =I(411.65 )/I(574.02 ),R 3 =I(419.74 )/I(557.75 ), andR 4 =I(411.65 )/I(557.75 ). A comparison of these with observational data for three solar flares, obtained by the Naval Research Laboratory's S082A slitless spectrograph on boardSkylab, reveals good agreement between theory and observation forR 1 andR 3 in one event, which provides limited support for the accuracy of the atomic data adopted in the analysis. However, in the other flares the observed values ofR 1R 4 are much larger than the theoretical high-temperature limits, which is probably due to blending of the 419.74 line with Civ 419.71 , and 411.65 with possibly Ciii 411.70 .  相似文献

Simultaneously measured line intensities of Ca+ K and H, H, H and He D3 are presented and compared with recent model calculations by Heasley and Milkey (1978). We observed Faraday rotation of linearly polarized radio waves from the Crab Nebula (Tau A) at 4170 MHz during solar coronal occultations in June 1971–75. Mean amplitudes of the variations of position angle are larger in an active phase of the solar cycle than in a quiet phase. In occultations in 1971 and 1973, the position angle of the polarization varied oscillatory by 20–50 degrees due to local magnetic structures in the corona with a typical scale-length of about 0.5 R . In 1974, we observed a typical variation of position angle of polarization which is expected from a Y-shaped field configuration in coronal streamers.The Faraday rotation is enhanced when the line of sight to Tau A passes through strong coronal magnetic fields computed from magnetograph observations, while the rotation is suppressed when the line of sight passes through large coronal holes observed in X-rays. Short-time oscillation of the rotation angle observed in 1971 and 1973 suggests that neutral sheets in coronal streamers oscillate at a period of 3 hours with an amplitude of 1 R at a distance of 10 R from the Sun.  相似文献

The nonlinear self-excited pulsations of population-II stars with mass 0.6M and luminosities from 128 to 1280L are studied. The pulsation periods are found to be in the range of 1.3 to 19 days. An increase of the stellar luminosity is shown to be accompanied by an increasing nonadiabaticity and decreasing efficiency of the radiative damping region. This leads to both an increase of the growth rate while pulsations are exciting and an increase of the oscillation amplitude of the limit cycle. In the models withL800L the efficiency of the radiative damping region becomes so small that amplitude growth ceases due to a dissipation of the mechanical energy by shocks in the stellar atmosphere. The models with periods of from 1.3 to 3 days show the bump on their light curves. The bump is connected with a travelling pulse generated at the antinode of the second overtone at maximum compression. The time delays estimated for the pulses reflected of the stellar core are in a good agreement with the pulse resonance condition proposed by Aikawa and Whitney (1983). The model with the period of 2.1 days revealed double resonance 0 = 22, 20 = 31 causing alternating oscillations with slightly different periods and amplitudes. The models with period of 10 days and longer reveal the resonance 0 = 21. This resonance causes the flat top on the light curve at a period of about 10 days and appearance of a shallow alternating minimum at longer periods, as is observed in RV Tau variables. The theoretical period-luminosity relation proposed for population-II cepheids is in good agreement with that obtained from observations.  相似文献

In the whole wavelength range, 0.385 to 10.0 µm, the ratios F/I 0 of disk-averaged intensity F to disk-center intensity I 0 follow very closely the simple relation F/I 0 = 0.975 - 0.091-1 - 0.00024-5. The residuals exhibit a well-defined structure with minima and maxima in the order of± 5 × 10-3 , which reflect the wavelength-dependency of the source function B(,) and the continuous absorption coefficient . The fact that the scatter of the coefficients of the relevant limb-darkening functions is usually much larger than the scatter of the F/I 0 ratios seems to confirm the occurrence of limb-darkening variations, which however leave the F/I 0 ratios almost unchanged. Nevertheless, minor differences between different observations, which concern the details in the wavelength-dependency of the F/I 0 residuals, seem to indicate that even the F/I 0 ratios undergo minor variations.  相似文献
