This study evaluates the impact of atmospheric observations from the Tropospheric Airborne Meteorological Data Reporting (TAMDAR) observing system on numerical weather prediction of hurricane Ike (2008) using three-dimensional data assimilation system for the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model (WRF 3D-Var). The TAMDAR data assimilation capability is added to WRF 3D-Var by incorporating the TAMDAR observation operator and corresponding observation processing procedure. Two 6-h cycling data assimilation and forecast experiments are conducted. Track and intensity forecasts are verified against the best track data from the National Hurricane Center. The results show that, on average, assimilating TAMDAR observations has a positive impact on the forecasts of hurricane Ike. The TAMDAR data assimilation reduces the track errors by about 30 km for 72-h forecasts. Improvements in intensity forecasts are also seen after four 6-h data assimilation cycles. Diagnostics show that assimilation of TAMDAR data improves subtropical ridge and steering flow in regions along Ike’s track, resulting in better forecasts.  相似文献

Previous studies showed that 4 D-Var technique used for data assimilation could be modified for weather control. This study demonstrates the ability of 4 D-Var to influence the future path of a tropical cyclone by calculating perturbations in WRF simulation. Given the background error covariance matrix, the initial field is improved by the vortex dynamic initialization technique. Our results show that 4 D-Var can be applied to control the trajectory of simulated tropical cyclones by producing "optimal" perturbations. In the numerical simulation experiment of Typhoon Mitag in 2019, after this kind of weather control similar to data assimilation, the tropical cyclone moved obviously,and the damaging wind over the coastline weakened. The prediction results after the initial field modified by 4 D-Var have a great change, and the position of the tropical cyclone moved about 0.5° southeastward after assimilation,which misses the southeast coast of China. Moreover, the damaging wind is also weakened. Since the 4 D-Var is premised on the assumption that the model is perfect and does not consider the model error, then the research plan to consider model error and introduce new methods is discussed in the paper.  相似文献

The four-dimensional variational(4D-Var) data assimilation systems used in most operational and research centers use initial condition increments as control variables and adjust initial increments to find optimal analysis solutions. This approach may sometimes create discontinuities in analysis fields and produce undesirable spin ups and spin downs. This study explores using incremental analysis updates(IAU) in 4D-Var to reduce the analysis discontinuities. IAU-based 4D-Var has almost the same mathematical formula as conventional 4D-Var if the initial condition increments are replaced with time-integrated increments as control variables.The IAU technique was implemented in the NASA/GSFC 4D-Var prototype and compared against a control run without IAU. The results showed that the initial precipitation spikes were removed and that other discontinuities were also reduced,especially for the analysis of surface temperature.  相似文献

Regional-Eta-Coordinate-Model(REM)中尺度模式对中国区域性降水显示出公认的较高预报能力,建立其四维变分资料同化系统是完善该模式,进一步提高其预报效果的重要工作。本研究编写了REM模式的切线性模式和伴随模式,介绍了建立REM模式伴随系统的过程,并利用实际天气个例资料,分别对REM模式的切线性模式、伴随模式及定义的目标函数梯度进行了正确性检验,检验结果表明对REM模式的切线性模式及伴随模式编写是成功的。利用REM模式的伴随系统,对1998年06月08日00时到09日00时和2000年08月01日00时到02日00时两个实际天气个例进行了四维变分资料同化试验。从数值试验的结果分析可以看到,进行四维变分资料同化后,两个天气个例在预报结束时刻其预报结果对风场和湿度场的预报都有明显改善,对温度场和高度场的预报也有所改善。对于累积降水的预报,两个个例利用四维变分资料同化后得到的初始场进行的预报结果则有较大不同,在个例1中,变分同化后对降水中心的位置和降水强度的预报都有明显改善,预报结果更接近于观测场;个例2中,变分同化后对降水中心位置和强度的预报则没有改善,产生这种现象的原因可能是由于定义的目标函数中没有加进背景场项,也可能是由于采用的观测资料时次比较少,还需要进一步进行研究和试验。  相似文献

GRAPES全球四维变分资料同化系统需要积云深对流参数化方案的线性化与伴随方案,直接采用原始复杂参数化方案进行线性化并不可行,需要发展简化光滑方案来减缓非线性与非连续性特征。GRAPES全球模式采用NSAS积云对流参数化方案,积云深对流对环境的反馈主要通过补偿下沉来实现,研究突出补偿下沉作用,忽略降水蒸发、动量反馈等贡献,形成简化方案。采用输入温、湿度廓线加入不同幅度小扰动方法,评估参数化方案计算的温度、比湿时间倾向对输入扰动的敏感性,检验非线性与非连续特征。提出避免或减缓非连续“开关”的方法,在简化方案的基础上发展了简化光滑方案。简化光滑方案与原始积云深对流方案相比,在对流触发上一致,在对流的位温与比湿倾向、降水的时序模拟等方面相似,而在减缓非线性、避免非连续性方面显著优于原始方案。基于简化光滑方案发展的线性化方案表明,对小于2倍分析增量幅度的扰动,线性化方案可以较好地模拟非线性方案的扰动发展。发展的简化光滑方案具有合理性和实用性。   相似文献

观测资料的质量控制直接影响数值预报资料同化的分析质量。本文针对GRAPES区域同化和预报的三维变分资料同化系统,发展了基于观测误差为"高斯分布+均匀分布"模型的变分质量控制方案,讨论了该方案的初始启动和关键参数,并检验分析了其适用性与有效性。同时,以全球预报系统(GFS)资料作为背景场,利用探空、地面、船舶、飞机、云迹风等常规观测资料和COSMIC卫星反演资料进行同化和预报,分析了华南地区特大暴雨的个例试验和2013年8月共31 d的批量试验。试验结果表明:变分质量控制能够依据观测资料的不同质量对观测权重进行合理调整,对位势高度、气压、风、比湿的分析增量场和分析场改善显著,尤其在强降水区具有更加明显的效果;对降水落区、降水强度及中心位置的预报质量具有较好的提高,特别对暴雨、大暴雨等较大降水量级的预报能力反映出更好的改善效果,充分显示了变分质量控制在中小尺度剧烈天气过程中对同化分析和预报的重要作用。  相似文献

敏感性试验表明集合变换卡尔曼滤波(Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter,ETKF)方法在混合(Hybrid)同化过程中易受观测资料数量变化的影响而产生较大程度的协方差震荡,从而可能导致系统不稳定。为设计一种简便、稳定的Hybrid同化系统,构建了一种基于物理控制变量扰动及多物理参数化方案的Hybrid同化及预报系统。本系统随着循环的进行,不断对Hybrid同化分析场进行控制变量扰动得到集合成员初始场,并且对各集合成员采用不同物理参数化方案以更合理地表征背景场的误差特征。连续10 d的循环同化及预报试验表明,本文同化方案效果明显优于三维变分方案,动力场的整体同化和预报效果与ETKF方案基本相当。本方案相比于ETKF方法不受观测波动影响,在没有经任何参数调试情况下,取得了良好同化和预报效果,为Hybrid同化的便捷运行提供了一种稳定可靠的手段。  相似文献

Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) observations have been widely used in numerical weather prediction (NWP) because of its high spatiotemporal resolution. The observational error of AMDAR is influenced by aircraft flight altitude and atmospheric condition. In this study, the wind speed and altitude dependent observational error of AMDAR is estimated. The statistical results show that the temperature and the observational error in wind speeds slightly decrease as altitude increases, and the observational error in wind speed increases as wind speed increases. Pseudo single AMDAR observation assimilation tests demonstrate that the wind speed and altitude dependent observational error can provide more reasonable analysis increment. Furthermore, to assess the performance of wind speed and altitude dependent observational error on data assimilation and forecasting, two-month 3-hourly cycling data assimilation and forecast experiments based on the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) and its Data Assimilation system (WRFDA) are performed for the period during 1 September-31 October, 2017. The results of the two-month 3-hourly cycling experiments indicate that new observational error improves analysis and forecast of wind field and geo-potential height, and has slight improvements on temperature. The Fractions Skill Score (FSS) of the 6-h accumulated precipitation shows that new wind speed and altitude dependent observational error leads to better precipitation forecast skill than the default observational error in the WRFDA does.  相似文献

数值天气预报模式的不断完善和大气观测探测资料(特别是卫星、雷达等非常规探测资料)的大量涌现,推动着资料同化方法的逐步发展.文章主要回顾了资料同化方法研究的发展过程、目前的应用现状以及对未来同化方法的展望.随着人们对资料同化含义的深入理解,对于资料同化的研究由初始的探索阶段逐步发展到以经验性为主的同化方法,主要包括SCM和nudging;统计方法的引入,成为资料同化方法研究发展道路上具有重要意义的一个里程碑,从而出现了多元统计插值同化,比如OI,3D-Var以及PSAS;针对背景误差协方差固定不变与实际情况的差异,考虑时间维的四维资料同化方法成为目前国际上较为主流的同化研究方法,其中以4D-Var和Kalman滤波为代表;随着计算机技术的进步,更加合理的四维资料同化方法将会成为未来业务预报中主要的资料同化方法.  相似文献

WRF(Weather Research Forecast)模式系统是由许多美国研究部门及大学的科学家共同参与进行开发研究的新一代中尺度同化预报系统。本文主要对公开发布的WRF模式V2.0版本中使用的微物理过程方案进行简单介绍,并在国家气象中心建立的与T213中期预报模式相嵌套的预报系统的基础上,对不同微物理过程方案进行了降水预报对比试验和检验,对各方案的降水预报性能进行初步评估。试验结果表明,总体预报效果LIN方案较好,而对流参数化方案从降水落区预报和对流降水对总降水的贡献两方面看则是KF和NKF方案的预报效果较好。  相似文献

在最近的15年中,国家气象中心的数值预报业务高速度发展,预报模式从北半球模式发展为全球谱模式,并配套建立了资料同化系统和用于降水预报的有限区预报模式,暴雨和台风预报模式正在研制中。目前数值预报时效已延至7天,T6393丙上时的预报水平已优于的数值预报产品的应用技术在不断改进,最高(低)气温下两天MOS预报精度已接近预报员制作的综合预报结果。  相似文献

基于集合卡尔曼变换与三维变分(ETKF-3DVAR)混合资料同化系统和欧洲中期天气预报中心(ECWMF)的全球集合预报,以"梅花"台风为例,分析了台风系统预报误差的流依赖特征,讨论了耦合系数在混合同化和预报中的敏感性及其对预报质量的影响。结果显示,台风系统的预报误差协方差具有显著的中小尺度结构特征,集合估计的预报误差协方差结构能够再现其流依赖属性。相对于3DVAR方案,混合资料同化方案的最优耦合系数对台风系统的分析和预报质量具有更好的改善;但不同的耦合系数对台风路径预报有明显的影响,不合适的耦合系数甚至可能导致更坏的结果,只有耦合了相对合适的预报误差协方差的流依赖信息,混合资料同化方案才可能对分析和预报质量有正效果。这表明在混合资料同化系统中,构造一种具有自适应能力的耦合权重函数,实现相对最优权重的自动选择,对充分发挥混合资料同化方案的潜在优势具有重要意义。  相似文献

Many weather radar networks in the world have now provided polarimetric radar data(PRD)that have the potential to improve our understanding of cloud and precipitation microphysics,and numerical weather prediction(NWP).To realize this potential,an accurate and efficient set of polarimetric observation operators are needed to simulate and assimilate the PRD with an NWP model for an accurate analysis of the model state variables.For this purpose,a set of parameterized observation operators are developed to simulate and assimilate polarimetric radar data from NWP model-predicted hydrometeor mixing ratios and number concentrations of rain,snow,hail,and graupel.The polarimetric radar variables are calculated based on the T-matrix calculation of wave scattering and integrations of the scattering weighted by the particle size distribution.The calculated polarimetric variables are then fitted to simple functions of water content and volumeweighted mean diameter of the hydrometeor particle size distribution.The parameterized PRD operators are applied to an ideal case and a real case predicted by the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model to have simulated PRD,which are compared with existing operators and real observations to show their validity and applicability.The new PRD operators use less than one percent of the computing time of the old operators to complete the same simulations,making it efficient in PRD simulation and assimilation usage.  相似文献

近年来,GRAPES全球三维变分同化系统分析性能和稳定性有了长足进步。该文简要介绍了近两年GRAPES全球:三维变分同化技术的发展与改进情况,包括同化框架技术、资料同化应用技术与系统稳定性等方面。分析诊断了两年的同化循环试验结果,以探空资料作为参考,对ERA-Interim再分析场、NCEP FNL分析场和GRAPES全球三维变分分析场的统计特征进行了比较;以ERA-Interim再分析场作为参考,对NCEP FNL分析场、T639分析场和GRAPES全球三维变分分析场进行比较。结果表明:GRAPES分析场的质量明显优于T639分析场,性能上达到了业务化的要求,但相比NCEP FNL分析场还有一定差距,特别是对流层内湿度分析场的误差还比较大。  相似文献

采用中尺度模式WRF和美国俄克拉荷马大学风暴分析预测中心的资料同化系统开展中国东部地区35部风廓线雷达资料同化试验研究,在同化1 h平均采样产品前,对其进行气候极值检查、一致性检查、垂直稀疏化等质量控制,选取2014年5月16-17日暴雨过程评估同化风廓线雷达资料对降水预报的影响,探讨其对初始场改进作用,之后,通过批量试验再次确认同化风廓线雷达资料可有效提高降水预报能力。个例同化试验对比分析表明:同化风廓线雷达资料后,暴雨区及其上游地区850 hPa的风速增强20%~30%,水汽通量增加30%~50%,大气层结不稳定性增强,小雨和大雨TS评分分别提高0.06和0.07,暴雨漏报率和空报率分别降低0.04和0.05,降水预报得到改进。  相似文献

Microwave radiances from passive polar-orbiting radiometers have been, until recently, assimilated in the Met Office global numerical weather prediction system after the scenes significantly affected by atmospheric scattering are discarded.Recent system upgrades have seen the introduction of a scattering-permitting observation operator and the development of a variable observation error using both liquid and ice water paths as proxies of scattering-induced bias. Applied to the Fengyun 3 Microwave Temperature Sounder 2(MWTS-2) and the Microwave Humidity Sounder 2(MWHS-2), this methodology increases the data usage by up to 8% at 183 GHz. It also allows for the investigation into the assimilation of MWHS-2 118 GHz channels, sensitive to temperature and lower tropospheric humidity, but whose large sensitivity to ice cloud have prevented their use thus far. While the impact on the forecast is mostly neutral with small but significant shortrange improvements, 0.3% in terms of root mean square error, for southern winds and low-level temperature, balanced by 0.2% degradations of short-range northern and tropical low-level temperature, benefits are observed in the background fit of independent instruments used in the system. The lower tropospheric temperature sounding Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer(IASI) channels see a reduction of the standard deviation in the background departure of up to 1.2%. The Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit A(AMSU-A) stratospheric sounding channels improve by up to 0.5% and the Microwave Humidity Sounder(MHS) humidity sounding channels improve by up to 0.4%.  相似文献
