A sample of three quasar spectra observed by the Keck telescope is selected to reconstruct the perturbations of mass density using the Gaussianization method, with a calculation of the corresponding wavelet power spectra. The two parameters in the lognormal (LN) model, namely the shape factor Γ and the Jeans smoothing factor r, are set as free parameters. Their most probable values are determined by comparing the result of statistical analysis on the observed sample with that on a simulated sample, and they are: Γ0.50 and r0.09. Non-Gaussian features in the quasar spectra can not be excluded using the traditional Gaussianization method. However, on the scales larger than 100 kpc, these features have little or no influence on our results described above. This argument has been verified by comparing the observed sample with the simulated sample as regards their skewness and kurtosis spectra, as well as their scale-scale correlations.  相似文献

We have conducted a search for emissivity features in the thermal infrared spectrum of the icy satellites of Saturn, Phoebe, Iapetus, Enceladus, Tethys, and Hyperion, observed by the Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) on board the Cassini spacecraft. Despite the heterogeneity of the composition of these bodies depicted by Earth-based and Cassini/VIMS observations, the CIRS spectra of all satellites are undistinguishable from black-body spectra, with no detectable emissivity feature. However, several materials, which have been detected on the surface of the same bodies, present emissivity features in the analyzed spectral range. In particular, water ice presents features with sufficient contrast to be detected by CIRS. Here we study the physical causes of the absence of features by simulating the effects of intimate mixtures using models of directional emissivity for optically thick surfaces for different particle sizes and abundances, and porosities. The simulations include a set of materials detected on the Phoebe's surface, like water ice, hydrated silicates, and organics. We find that featureless spectra can be produced in three scenarios: (1) ice particles with large sizes, (2) mixtures of ices dominated by dark contaminants, and (3) small particles with large porosity. Constraints imposed by the NIR spectra of the satellites favors the latter scenario as the more likely explanation to the absence of emissivity features on the icy satellites of Saturn.  相似文献

Abstract— Reflectance spectra of splits 92 and 271 from the Martian meteorite Allan Hills (ALH) 84001 are presented and analyzed in this paper. Although the visible and infrared spectra of both chips show that the dominant mineralogy is low-Ca pyroxene, the focus here is on identification of the minor constituents. Infrared spectra measured at multiple spots along the surface of chips 92 and 271 show subtle spectroscopic variations due to changes in the low-Ca pyroxene texture and composition and to the presence of secondary minerals. Absorption bands observed near 0.93 and 1.95 μm are characteristic of low-Ca pyroxene. Strong mid-infrared reststrahlen bands are observed near 9 and 19.5 μm in all surface spectra, and additional bands near 7, 10.5, 11.4, 17.8, 20.5 and 23 μm are variable depending on the low-Ca pyroxene texture and the presence of secondary minerals. Selected spectra exhibit carbonate features near 4, 6.4–7.1 and 11.3 μm. Detailed analysis of these carbonate features indicates the presence of Mg-Fe carbonate, which is consistent with petrographic studies. Many of these spectra with strong carbonate features exhibit a magnetite feature near 17.9 μm and a shoulder near 20.5 μm that cannot be uniquely ascribed to one mineral. Spectroscopic identification of the minor carbonate and magnetite minerals in this probable piece of Mars indicates that detection of small amounts of these minerals of possible biological significance will be possible using infrared hyperspectral analyses of the Martian surface. Also of importance for remote sensing on Mars is the result that Mg, Fe and Mg-Fe carbonates in a low-Ca pyroxene matrix should be distinguishable from one another in the spectral region measured by the thermal emmitance spectrometer (TES).  相似文献

We investigate the problem of determining the plasma composition of relativistic jets in blazars and microquasars from the polarization frequency spectra of their synchrotron radiation. The effect of plasma composition on this radiation is attributable to a change in the structure of the ordinary and extraordinary waves in plasma, depending on the presence of a nonrelativistic electron-proton component in it and on the type of relativistic particles (electrons, positrons). The structure of the normal waves determines the properties of the observed radiation and primarily the shape of the polarization frequency spectrum. Our analytic calculations of the polarization spectra for simple models of jets with a uniform magnetic field and with a magnetic-field shear revealed characteristic features in the polarization spectra. These features allow us to differentiate between the synchrotron radiation from an admixture of relativistic particles in a cold plasma and the radiation from a relativistic plasma. However, definitive conclusions regarding the relativistic plasma composition (electrons or electron-positron pairs) can be reached only by a detailed analysis of the polarization frequency spectra that will be obtained in future radioastronomical studies with high angular and frequency resolutions.  相似文献

We suggest that the dynamical regime(s) underlying quasi-periodic oscillations observed in the spectra of bright galactic-bulge X-ray sources are nonlinear with a mixed phase space. The important feature of such regimes is that they are generic among nonlinear Hamiltonian and nearly Hamiltonian systems of more than two degrees of freedom. We give a simple example of such chaotic (deterministic) systems whose spectra share a number of features with those observed for quasiperiodic oscillations of such sources.  相似文献

Abstract— We present laboratory mid‐infrared absorption spectra (2.5 urn to 16.0 μm) of powdered calcium‐aluminum‐rich inclusions (CAIs) and matrix separated from the carbonaceous chondrites Allende (CV3.2), Vigarano (CV3.3), and Ornans (C03.3). Two groups of spectra with different features were found for the CAI: in the first group spectra are dominated by spinel, pyroxene, and sodalite ± nepheline, where main features occur at 9.3 μm, 10.3 μm, and 11.3 μm. In the second group, characteristic minerals are spinel and melilite with typical band maxima at 11.0 μm and 12.3 μm, and a broad feature between 14.0 μn and 15.0 μn. The position of the broad spinel feature probably depends on its iron content. Comparison of band positions in spectra from the CAI components to observed circumstellar emission spectra indicates the potential occurrence of CAI‐like material. Pyroxene‐ and spinel‐rich features could occur in spectra of dust around the Herbig Ae star HD104237, the T Tauri star Hen3‐600 and the post‐AGB star R Sge. Melilite‐ and spinel‐rich components possibly appear in the spectrum of HD 104237, Hen3‐600, 04187_1927, R Sge, and the planetary nebula Hb 12. There is also indication for a spinel component in dust from the Herbig Ae/Be star HD 179218. The spectra of the AGB stars R Cas and θ Aps show no features of CAl‐type spinel.  相似文献

We report the results of the Cornell Mid-IR Asteroid Spectroscopy (MIDAS) survey, a program of ground-based observations designed to characterize the 8-13 μm spectral properties of a statistically significant sample of asteroids from a wide variety of visible to near-IR spectral classes. MIDAS is conducted at Palomar Observatory using the Spectrocam-10 (SC-10) spectrograph on the 200-in Hale telescope. We have measured the mid-infrared spectra of twenty-nine asteroids and have derived temperature estimates from our data that are largely consistent with the predictions of the standard thermal model. We have also generated relative emissivity spectra for the target asteroids. On only one asteroid, 1 Ceres, have we found emissivity features with spectral contrast greater than 5%. Our spectrum of 4 Vesta suggests emissivity variation at the 2-3% level. Published spectra of several of the small number of asteroids observed with ISO (six of which are also included in our survey), which appeared to exhibit much stronger emissivity features, are difficult to reconcile with our measurements. Laboratory work on mineral and meteorite samples has shown that the contrast of mid-IR spectral features is greatly reduced at fine grain sizes. Moreover, the NEAR mission found that 433 Eros is covered by a relatively thick fine-grained regolith. If small bodies in general possess such regoliths, their mid-IR spectral features may be quite subtle. This may explain the evident absence of strong emissivity variation in the majority of the MIDAS spectra.  相似文献

We present some early results on AGN from the Chandra X-ray Observatory, highlighting high resolution spectroscopy using the High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS). The quasar PKS 0637–752 was found to have a very bright X-ray jet whose shape is remarkably similar to that of the radio jet on a size scale of 100 kpc, but the X-ray emission is still inexplicably bright. Two BL Lac objects, PKS 2155–304 and Mrk 421, observed with the spectrometer were found to have no strong absorption or emission features. Other radio loud AGN observed with the HETGS show simple power law spectra without obvious features.  相似文献

Thanks to the large effective area and the spectral resolution of current X‐ray satellites, the detection of X‐ray narrow spectral features in the 5–7 keV band is becoming commonplace in many AGN observations. Such lines, both in emission and in absorption, are mostly interpreted as arising from Iron atoms. When observed with some displacement from their rest frame position, these lines carry the potential to study the motion of circumnuclear gas in AGN, providing a diagnostic of the effects of the gravitational field of the central black hole. These narrow features have been often found with marginal statistical significance. A systematic search for narrow features in type1 AGN is being performed on all spectra available in the XMM‐Newton archive with the aim to estimate the significance of the features with Monte Carlo simulations of synthetic spectra. The project and preliminary results are presented. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The stochastic acceleration of heavy ions by Alfvén turbulence is considered with allowance for Coulomb losses. The pattern of energy dependence of these losses gives rise to characteristic features in the energy spectra of the accelerated particles at energies of the order of several MeV nucleon?1. The manifestation of these features in the spectra is sensitive to the temperature and density of the medium, which can serve as a basis for plasma diagnostics in the flare region. Some impulsive solar energetic particle events during which features in the spectra of 3He and 4He were observed are considered as an example.  相似文献

Spectroscopic analyses have shown that smectites enhanced in the laboratory with additional ferric species exhibit important similarities to those of the soils on Mars. Ferrihydrite in these chemically treated smectites has features in the visible to near-infrared region that resemble the energies and band strengths of features in reflectance spectra observed for several bright regions on Mars. New samples have been prepared with sulfate as well, because S was found by Viking to be a major component in the surface material on Mars. A suite of ferrihydrite-bearing and ferric sulfate-bearing montmorillonites, prepared with variable Fe3+ and S concentrations and variable pH conditions, has been analyzed using reflectance spectroscopy in the visible and infrared regions, M?ssbauer spectroscopy at room temperature and 4 K, differential thermal analysis, and X-ray diffraction. These analyses support the formation of ferrihydrite of variable crystallinity in the ferrihydrite-bearing montmorillonites and a combination of schwertmannite and ferrihydrite in the ferric sulfate-bearing montmorillonites. Small quantities of poorly crystalline or nanophase forms of other ferric materials may also be present in these samples. The chemical formation conditions of the ferrihydrite-bearing and ferric sulfate-bearing montmorillonites influence the character of the low temperature M?ssbauer sextets and the visible reflectance spectra. An absorption minimum is observed at 0.88-0.89 micrometers in spectra of the ferric sulfate-bearing samples, and at 0.89-0.92 micrometers in spectra of the ferrihydrate-bearing montmorillonites. M?ssbauer spectra of the ferric sulfate-bearing montmorillonites indicate variable concentrations of ferrihydrite and schwertmannite in the interlaminar spaces and along grain surfaces. Dehydration under reduced atmospheric pressure conditions induces a greater effect on the adsorbed and interlayer water in ferrihydrite-bearing montmorillonite than on the water in ferric sulfate-bearing montmorillonite. Reflectance spectra of ferric sulfate-bearing montmorillonite include a strong 3-micrometers band that is more resistant to dry atmospheric conditions than the 3-micrometers band in spectra of similarly prepared ferrihydrite-bearing montmorillonites.  相似文献

If the "11.3 microns" emission feature seen in the spectra of many planetary nebulae, H II regions, and reflection nebulae is due to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), then additional features should be present between 11.3 and 13.0 microns (885 and 770 cm-1). Moderate-resolution spectra of NGC 7027, HD 44179, IRAS 21282+5050, and BD + 30 degrees 3639 are presented which show that the "11.3 microns" feature actually peaks at 11.22 microns (891 cm-1). The spectra also show evidence of new emission features near 11.9 and 12.7 microns (840 and 787 cm-1). These are consistent with an origin from PAHs and can be used to constrain the molecular structure of the family of PAHs responsible for the infrared features. The observed asymmetry of the "11.3 microns" band is consistent with the slight anharmonicity expected in the C--H out-of-plane bending mode in PAHs. Laboratory experiments show that the intensity of this mode relative to the higher frequency modes depends on the extent of molecular "clustering." The observed strengths of the "11.3 microns" interstellar bands relative to the higher frequency bands are most consistent with the features originating from free molecular PAHs. The intensity and profile of the underlying broad structure, however, may well arise from PAH clusters and amorphous carbon particles. Analysis of the 11-13 microns (910-770 cm-1) emission suggests that the molecular structures of the most intensity emitting free PAHs vary somewhat between the high-excitation environment in NGC 7027 and the low-excitation but high-flux environment close to HD 44179. Finally, a previously undetected series of regularly spaced features between 10 and 11 microns (1000 and 910 cm-1) in the spectrum of HD 44179 suggests that a simple polyatomic hydride is present in the gas phase in this object.  相似文献

We present in this work the observations performed with SINFONI in the framework of a new ESO-Large Program (2006-2008) on Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs) and Centaurs. We obtained 21 near-infrared (1.49 to 2.4 microns) spectra of high quality, including 4 spectra of objects never observed before. We search for the presence of features due to ices, particularly water ice. Eris is the only object showing deep methane ice absorption bands. The spectra of 4 objects are featureless, and 6 others show clearly the presence of water ice. For 7 objects, the detections are more ambiguous, but absorption bands could be embedded in the noise. The 3 remaining spectra are too noisy to draw any reliable conclusion. The possible amount of water ice on each object's surface has been computed. The analysis shows that some objects present strong compositional heterogeneities over the surface (e.g. Chariklo), while some others are completely homogeneous (e.g. Quaoar).  相似文献

The accretion disc in active galactic nucleus (AGN) is expected to produce strong outflows, in particular an ultraviolet (UV)-line-driven wind. Several observed spectral features, including the soft X-ray excess, have been associated with the accretion disc wind. However, current spectral models of the X-ray spectrum of AGN observed through an accretion disc wind, known to provide a good fit to the observed X-ray data, are ad hoc in their treatment of the outflow velocity and density of the wind material. In order to address these limitations we adopt a numerical computational method that links a series of radiative transfer calculations, incorporating the effect of a global velocity field in a self-consistent manner { xstar Simulation Chain for Outflows with Radiative Transfer ( xscort )}. We present a series of example spectra from the xscort code that allow us to examine the shape of AGN X-ray spectra seen through a smooth wind with terminal velocity of 0.3 c , as appropriate for a UV-line-driven wind. We calculate spectra for a range of different acceleration laws, density distributions, total column densities and ionization parameters, but all these have sharp features that contrast strongly with both the previous 'smeared absorption' models, and with the observed smoothness of the soft X-ray excess. This rules out absorption in a radiatively driven accretion disc wind as the origin of the soft X-ray excess, though a larger terminal velocity, possibly associated with material in a magnetically driven outflow/jet, may allow outflow models to recover a smooth excess.  相似文献

Spectral observations of 19 galaxies with UV-excesses from Kazarian’s list are reported. The spectra were obtained with the 2.6-m telescope at the Byurakan Observatory using the SCORPIO spectral camera. A grism was used to obtain spectra in the wavelength interval λλ7420-3920 Å. 43 spectra in which emission lines are mainly observed were obtained from the 19 galaxies, except for the spectra of Kaz 21, Kaz 178, Kaz 183, and Kaz 184. The spectra of Kaz 17, Kaz 151, Kaz 153, and Kaz 357 have type Sy2 galactic features. In the spectra of the galaxies Kaz 17, Kaz 151, and Kaz 153, absorption lines are observed along with high excitation emission lines such as HeI λ5876 Å and HeII λ4686 Å. No lines were observed within the interval λλ7420-3920 Å in the spectra of the galaxies Kaz 183 and Kaz 184. __________ Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 49, No. 3, pp. 351–358 (August 2006).  相似文献

Plagioclase feldspar is one of the most abundant minerals on the surface of the Earth, the Moon, and Mars, and is also commonly found in meteorites. Studying shock effects in feldspar thus provides us with fundamental information about impact cratering processes on planetary bodies. In this study, plagioclase from monomict and polymict breccias, impact melt rocks, and shock‐metamorphosed target rocks, from throughout the Mistastin Lake impact structure, Canada, was examined using 514 nm laser Raman spectroscopy. As one of the very few impact structures with anorthosite in the target rocks, the Mistastin Lake impact structure provides a unique opportunity to study shocked plagioclase displaying progressive shock metamorphic features. A series of microscopic features was observed within plagioclase, including twins, needle‐like inclusions, planar features, and alteration. The lack of planar deformation features is notable. Raman spectra of these features suggest that this technique is capable of differentiating and classifying shock features in low to moderately shocked rocks. Caution should be exercised, however, as Raman spectra collected from unshocked plagioclase references with known compositions indicate that peak width and peak ratio of the Raman peaks in lower wave number region (<350 cm?1) and the main signature peaks around 500 cm?1 vary with chemical composition and crystal orientation. Data collected from diaplectic glass suggest that Raman features are efficient in distinguishing crystalline plagioclase and diaplectic glass. We also observed significant variations in the Raman intensities collected from diaplectic glass, which we ascribe to the localized disorder or inhomogeneity of shock pressure and temperature throughout the target.  相似文献

In this paper we present results obtained in the framework of a visible spectroscopic and photometric survey of Trojan asteroids. We concentrated on bodies orbiting at the L5 Lagrangian point of Jupiter that are also members of dynamical families. Spectroscopy is a crucial tool that allows us to characterize the mineralogical composition of families and their parent bodies, gives evidence of ongoing space weathering, and confirms family membership. We have observed 18 objects belonging to the Aneas, Astyanax, Sarpedon, and Phereclos families as defined by Beaugé and Roig (2001, Icarus 53, 391). In addition, we have determined the spectroscopic properties of 8 background Jupiter Trojans. The observed spectra are reddish with a dominance of D-type asteroids. As expected, the spectra of the non-family members are more heterogeneous compared to the spectra of family members, with the exception of the members of the Aneas family. We also confirm the lack of absorption features in the visible region, as already reported by other authors.  相似文献

Several new features of X-ray binary pulsars are revealed from recent observations with ASCA, RXTE, BeppoSAX and other X-ray observatories. Among these, I will review in this paper some recent progress in spectroscopic studies of accreting X-ray pulsars in binary systems (XBPs). First, I will discuss soft excess features observed in the energy spectra of XBPs and propose that it is a common feature for various subclasses of XBPs. Next I will present some recent results of high resolution spectroscopy with ASCA and Chandra.  相似文献

3ew spectra of Titan centered at 7500 Å, at resolutions of 4 and 1 Å are presented. Weak absorptions coincident with features observed in the spectra of Uranus and Neptune are found. This observation suggests methane abundances in excess of 1 km-am, thereby emphasizing the complexity of line formation in Titan's atmosphere. The question of the total atmospheric pressure of Titan must be reexamined.  相似文献
