The relationship of sea-level changes and short-term climatic changes with turbidite deposition is poorly documented, although the mechanisms of gravity-driven sediment transport in submarine canyons during sea-level changes have been reported from many regions. This study focuses on the activity of the Dakar Canyon off southern Senegal in response to major glacial/interglacial sea-level shifts and variability in the NW-African continental climate. The sedimentary record from the canyon allows us to determine the timing of turbidite events and, on the basis of XRF-scanning element data, we have identified the climate signal at a sub-millennial time scale from the surrounding hemipelagic sediments. Over the late Quaternary the highest frequency in turbidite activity in the Dakar Canyon is confined to major climatic terminations when remobilisation of sediments from the shelf was triggered by the eustatic sea-level rise. However, episodic turbidite events coincide with the timing of Heinrich events in the North Atlantic. During these times continental climate has changed rapidly, with evidence for higher dust supply over NW Africa which has fed turbidity currents. Increased aridity and enhanced wind strength in the southern Saharan-Sahelian zone may have provided a source for this dust.  相似文献

研究块体搬运沉积有助于揭示深水重力流沉积的分布和演化,对深水储层预测和圈闭评价具有重要意义。利用高分辨率三维地震资料进行深水块体搬运复合体的识别、演化规律以及在油气勘探中的意义进行探讨。研究发现:深水块体搬运复合体表现为弱振幅、杂乱、丘状地震反射,块体搬运复合体底部具有明显的线性侵蚀擦痕;块体搬运复合体常常与浊积水道、堤岸沉积伴生出现;块体搬运复合体对早期浊积岩侵蚀形成大量残余地层,残余浊积岩与块体搬运复合体可以形成潜在的深水地层圈闭。尽管块体搬运复合体本身不能作为有效的储层,但这些沉积体的准确识别可以提高深水浊积水道储层预测的精度,许多侵蚀过程和围绕块体搬运沉积所发育的地层关系提供创造地层圈闭的机会。  相似文献

A core collected in the Guaymas Basin contained an organic-poor, Mn oxide-rich and (relatively) Fe oxide-rich turbidite layer that affected the distribution of Fe, Mn, C, S and trace metals. Results indicate that sediments not influenced by the turbidite layer achieved a 100% degree of pyritization and, by extension, that pyrite production is Fe-limited in these sediments. In contrast, the mud slide layer apparently supplied enough reactive Fe to transfer essentially 98% of the total S present at the base of the turbidite (17–19 cm) to the pyrite reservoir. C/S ratios showed rapid decreases with depth, from a high of 38 close to the sediment-water interface, to minimum values of 2.8 at the lower limit of the turbidite layer, a ratio equal to the average C/S value of normal marine modern sediments, where concentrations of organic C and pyrite supposedly have attained quasi-steady values. A significant part of the reactive Mn was associated with carbonates (41±12%) and, to a much lower degree, with pyrite (2.7±1.2%). The turbidite layer is currently showing a depletion of Mn relative to the host sediment. It is possible that Mn, a major metal constituent in these sediments, was initially present in high concentrations in the mud slide, but was eventually mobilized and transferred either to the water column or to the sediments immediately below the turbidite layer. Metals associated with this element probably followed the same path, affecting their incorporation into pyrite. The turbidite layer apparently affected the distribution of most of the trace metals associated with pyrite, except maybe Cd, Pb and, to a certain, extent Cr. However, Cu, Cr, Zn, Ni and Co were all found to be highly pyritized (>80%) in the sediments of the Guaymas Basin.  相似文献

Sediment core IR-GC1, from the abyssal basin of the Indian Ocean off Sumatra, may provide important information on depositional events related to earthquakes and tsunamis. In this study, based on a combination of grain-size analysis with lithological studies and oxygen isotope stratigraphy, seven deep-sea turbidite layers were identified, corresponding to seven turbidity events that occurred at 128–130, 105–107, 98–100, 86–87, 50–53, 37–41 and 20–29 ka. The sediments of the turbidite deposits are characterized by coarse grain sizes, poor sorting, wide kurtosis, bimodal frequency distributions and clear depositional variations. Particle size grading is also an important signature of deep-sea turbidite deposits and can be used as an indicator to identify turbidite layers. Possible triggering mechanisms for the turbidite events include tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and sea-level changes.  相似文献

细粒浊积岩是一类较为特殊的浊积岩类型,与可用鲍马序列解释的完整经典浊积岩相比,其颗粒粒径明显偏细,小于63μm的颗粒含量超过50%。通过对四川盆地北部唐家河剖面寒武系第二统郭家坝组上部地层的系统研究发现,Stow细粒浊积岩序列发育广泛。该序列下部(T0-T3)主要为极细砂、粉砂与泥质纹层互层,发育微弱冲刷构造和泄水构造等软沉积物变形构造;中部(T4-T6)为泥质层段夹断续粉砂质纹层;上部(T7-T8)转变为均质泥岩段,生物扰动构造发育,整体序列具有正粒序特征。浊积岩序列中碎屑颗粒主要为石英、岩屑和云母,长石少见,杂基含量高;粒度频率分布曲线(直方图)显示颗粒分选性比传统浊积岩好,且自下而上各砂质纹层内颗粒粒径变细;概率值累计曲线表现为“一段式”和“上凸的折线式”2种,且悬浮组分占据了绝大优势;C-M图以平行于“C=M”基线为特征,但受碎屑颗粒粒级偏小的影响,投点整体沿C=M基线向左下偏移,显示该序列具有浊流递变悬浮沉积的特点。结合筇竹寺阶(第二统)沉积背景,认为靠近研究区西北侧的摩天岭古陆为浊积岩发育的主要物源区,台内地形的遮挡为细粒浊积岩的发育提供了良好的地形条件,悬浮搬运和阵发性环境事件(如风暴、洪水等)搬运为细粒沉积物主要的搬运机制。以唐家河剖面为代表的寒武系郭家坝组细粒浊积岩的广泛发育,对于认识四川盆地北缘古地理格局和非常规油气勘探具有重要意义。  相似文献

Most of the Quaternary sediments of the Mozambique Fan have been derived from Africa-Madagascar and deposited by turbidity currents in Pleistocene time. Currents caused by movement of the Antarctic Bottom Water also played a significant role in reworking and redepositing sediments along the marginal areas of the fan. The inner or upper Mozambique Fan is characterized by a single, leveed valley. Due to the effects of the Coriolis force, the natural levees to the east of the valley (left, looking downstream) are higher and contain more terrigenous sediments than those to the west of the valley. The sea floor to the west of the valley returns regular hyperbolic echoes as seen on 3·5 kHz echograms, whereas to the east of the valley, the sea floor is relatively smooth. The sediments on the valley floor are coarse-grained (with median grain up to 2 mm) and poorly sorted, and occur often as massive turbidites, interbedded with hemipelagic sediments. Away from the valley, both to the east and the west, the terrigenous sediments are relatively fine-grained and have been deposited as overbank turbidite sequences. We estimate the maximum velocities of the channelized turbidity currents in the upper fan to have been 8–32 ms?1. The middle fan has several distributary channels with no levees and has a relatively flat sea floor, characterized by lack of acoustic penetration. Thick, sheet-like, turbidite sand beds, deposited primarily by unchannelized turbidity currents, characterize the middle fan. The middle fan grades, towards the margins, into the outer (lower) fan which is relatively free of channels, has good acoustic penetration and contains hemipelagic and pelagic sediments, and thin, fine-sand turbidite and/or contourite beds. A wide zone of sediment waves, formed from the reworking of the turbidity current-fed sediments by the Antarctic Bottom Water, forms part of the outer fan.  相似文献

Abstract

Deep-sea turbidite sedimentation in convergent margin settings generally is controlled by tectonic uplift, climate and eustatic sea-level variations. The rate of tectonic uplift governs the relief of the source area and the position of the base level (coinciding with sea-level), climate influences the rate and style of weathering and continental runoff and eustatic seal-level additionally shifts the base level, functioning with the concurrently working tectonic movements. Thus, these factors primarly determine the availability of sediment (yield and nature of material and the site of intermittent storage) at the basin margin which is unlocked periodically to flow downslope to the basin.

This paper attempts to decipher quantitatively the importance of the individual factors in the Late Maastrichtian to Early Eocene Schieren Flysch Croup. The flysch was deposited in a moderately converging remnant oceanic trench basin. Mean parameters are calculated on the basis of formations and the duration of nannofossil zones comprised in. For transposing these zone into absolute age intervals the problem of inconsistent durations in current time scales had to be solved by a best-fit approach. Frequencies and periodicities of turbidite events, decompacted and compacted sedimentation rates (the latter are considered as apparent denudation rates) are calculated to reveal the dynamics of sedimentation. Climatic evidence is deduced from clay mineralogy. Changing uplift rates in the drainage area are indirectly interpreted from back-stripped tectonic subsisdence rates in the basin.

The obtained data point to an immediate control of sub-duction-Iinked tectonic uplift in the bordering drainage and shelf area on turbidite sedimentation, as frequency and thickness of the turbidite events are closely correlated with the increasing tectonic subsisdence in the basin (assumed to match the rate of subduction and underplating). This general trend is modified by the temporary migration of the oceanic hinge zone towards the trench causing periodically the starvation of outer portions of the basin at the transition from Early to Late Paleocene and Late Paleocene to Eocene. Regional climatic trends additionnaly rule the turbidite facies development and apparent denudation rates. In the upper part of Early Eocene series high rate mud dominated sediments correlate with warm/humid conditions and in Late Paleocene deposits low rate sandy sediments coincide with cool ones. During the Late Paleocene period the global 2nd-order sea-level lowering probably may be responsible for the by-passing of the shelf by the coarse grained sediments.  相似文献

北山地区位于华北板块、塔里木板块和哈萨克斯坦板块交汇带,晚古生代构造演化倍受关注且久有争议,该地区晚古生代地层的研究对探讨大地构造演化具有重要意义。利用同位素定年、沉积相分析、粒度分析和碎屑成分统计分析方法对北山地区早石炭世红柳园组进行研究。在下部火山岩中获得LA-ICP-MS锆石U-Pb年龄为359.9±1.4 Ma,参考区域古生物资料,其形成时代应为早石炭世早期。红柳园组上部碎屑岩中发育大量浊流沉积构造和典型鲍马序列,其中砂岩成熟度较低,并且粒度分析结果显示具有浊流沉积的粒度特征,这些证据共同指示红柳园组为近物源浊流沉积。此外通过碎屑组分统计和Qt-F-L、Qm-F-Lt以及Qp-Lv-Ls图解对沉积构造背景进行了探讨,发现研究区红柳园组物源主要来自火山弧,表明其形成的构造环境应为与岛弧邻近的沉积盆地。  相似文献

南秦岭横丹浊积岩系是一套巨厚的浊流沉积,以向南或南东倾的单斜构造产出。由下而上,该沉积层序包括深水盆地、深水浊积扇和斜坡水道3个相序。相应地,沉积物粒度变粗,厚度变大,火山质组分含量增加,凝灰层大量发育,表明横丹浊积岩系为活动型浊积岩;其古水流方向为NNW—NNE向,物源区为南侧的碧口火山岩系。另外,横丹浊积岩系内还见石英岩、重结晶大理岩成分的砾石,说明其物源还包括被动陆缘环境的沉积物。相序、组构、沉积特征和物源区综合分析表明,横丹浊积岩系为弧前盆地充填物。构筑这一弧前盆地的动力学机制是洋壳板块向南俯冲于扬子板块被动陆缘之下,时代可能晚于中晚泥盆世。  相似文献

浊流是远距离沉积物运输的一种重要方式,海底浊流广泛存在于海底峡谷或海沟。马尼拉海沟位于南海东北部,是一条正在活动的板块汇聚边界。独特的地理位置(亚热带—热带)和气候条件(台风频发),使得马尼拉海沟浊流频发,然而,现今对马尼拉海沟的浊流研究甚少。本研究通过对马尼拉海沟北部水深3747 m处重力柱岩心(GEO6)进行高精度的粒度及沉积学特征分析,探讨马尼拉海沟浊流沉积规律。GEO6岩心底部细颗粒沉积物中浮游有孔虫的14C的AMS年龄为1405 a B.P.。高精度的粒度分析(0.25 cm)和沉积学特征显示: GEO6岩心记录有至少11次浊流沉积(T1-T11),且这些浊流都有明显的底部粒度最粗(砂质粉砂或砂)、向上粒度逐渐变细的正粒序特征,只有T8沉积体为反粒序特征,可能为异重流沉积。结合区域地质资料,本研究认为1.4 ka B.P.以来,研究区频繁的台风带来了大量陆源松散沉积物堆积在马尼拉海沟上游(高屏峡谷),不稳定的构造环境及地震频发导致这些松散沉积物垮塌并向下游马尼拉海沟输送,在海沟内形成频繁发育的浊流沉积体。  相似文献

利用地震、测井、岩心资料,根据沉积构造、岩性剖面结构、砂体厚度确定了泌阳凹陷毕店地区古近系核桃园组三段沉积相类型;借助新的地震反演方法追踪三维数据体中的薄储层,在解释追踪基础上,得到核三段等时单砂层(或小层)厚度变化图,并编制了沉积相分布图。结果表明这里以广泛发育的浊积扇、滑塌扇等浊流沉积为特色,呈现出"南北部浊积扇夹中部深湖相"的沉积格局;早期富浊积砂、晚期富深水泥的沉积演化反映了湖平面的上升过程。基于有利的沉积相带,预测并评价了隐蔽圈闭,为油气勘探提供了依据。  相似文献

利用岩心观察、薄片鉴定和粒度分析等方法,对鄂尔多斯盆地黄陵地区上三叠统延长组长7、长6油层组浊积岩沉积特征与油气地质意义进行了研究。研究结果表明,浊积岩主要为长石砂岩,以棱角状—次棱角状为主,粒度具有典型的浊流沉积特征。沉积构造可见泥底构造、同生变形构造、粒序递变层、鲍玛序列等。最常见的鲍玛序列有ABC型、AB型、ADE型、AE型、CDE型和A段叠置型,具备浊积岩的典型特点。识别出薄层浊积岩和中厚层浊积岩,其属于三角洲前缘滑塌成因,可分为中心微相和边缘微相。浊流砂体是半深湖—深湖区发育的良好储集体,其分布区可作为重要的油气勘探区。  相似文献

广东省海丰地区是下侏罗统长埔组良好的出露区。长埔组为一套浅海碎屑岩沉积,主要为陆棚泥质沉积背景下的临滨砂坝和浊流沉积。粒度分析显示临滨砂坝沉积的概率累积曲线为两段式,频率直方图为单峰。浊流沉积的概率累积曲线为三段式,频率直方图为双峰。岩相序列为海进-海退过程的岩相组合,砂岩层向上变厚。海进-海退的序列显示出长埔时期海丰地区总体上经历了两次海平面变化。浅海泥质沉积和浊流沉积构成一套复理石序列。马尔科夫链分析显示长埔组具有明显的向上变粗序列。地球化学数据显示长埔组沉积物兼具被动大陆边缘性质和活动大陆边缘性质。砂岩样品成分的Dickinson图解显示,沉积物来源于再旋回造山带,与岩浆弧造山带和俯冲带杂岩体有关,海丰地区靠近逆冲造山带。因此早侏罗世盆地处于挤压下的弧后前陆构造背景,沉积物受再旋回造山带和陆块双物源控制。  相似文献

引言自七十年代中期以来,我国沉积学工作者对浊流沉积和其他重力流沉积寄予很大重视,陆续在各个时代的地质剖面中发现了这类沉积物,并进行了程度不等的研究,代表了我国沉积学进展的一个重要方面。1983年10月14-21日,由中国矿物岩石地球化学学会沉积学会、中国石油学会石油地质学会和云南石油学会联合举办的“浊流沉积现场考察及学术讨论会”在广西南宁市召开。会议参加者考察了桂西山区田林县的路城,八渡和浪平地区泥盆系至三叠系地层剖面上的碳酸盐台地跌积边缘重力沉积、深海盆陆源碎屑浊积岩和火山碎屑浊积岩。会上宣读了27篇论文,进行了学术讨论。这次会议无疑将促进我国浊流与其他重力流沉积研究工作更加迅速地深入发展。本文将对我国已往的浊流与其他重力流沉积的研究成果予以简要综述,同时对此研究领域的发展方向做些初步的议论。  相似文献

The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 367/368 reported massive Upper Miocene deep-sea turbidite in the northern South China Sea basin. The Upper Miocene turbidite sand-bodies at Site U1500 were examined with detrital zircon U-Pb dating to conduct the source-to-sink analysis. This study shows that the U-Pb age spectrums of Site U1500 sample are similar to those detrital zircons from the Miocene Qiongdongnan Basin and the Pearl River Mouth Basin. Multidimensional scaling (MDS) plot also shows that the turbidite sand-bodies at Site U1500 are closely related to the sediments in the Pearl River Mouth Basin and Qiongdongnan Basin. It is likely that the thick deep-sea turbidite succession in the deep-water basin of northern South China Sea was formed by a mixed provenance pattern during the late Miocene. On the one hand, terrigenous sediments from the west of the South China Sea were transported along the Central Canyon to the eastern South China Sea deep-sea basin in the form of turbidity current. On the other hand, terrigenous sediments were also transported from the Pearl River through the slope canyon system to the northern South China Sea in the form of gravity flow . Those mixed sediments from two different source areas have collectively deposited at the deep-sea basin and thus, give rise to turbidite sequence of hundred meters. Provenance analysis of the thick turbidites sand-bodies in the deep-sea basin is of great significance to the profound understanding of the tectonic evolution, filling processes, provenance evolution, and the palaeogeographic characteristics of the Cenozoic basins of the South China Sea.  相似文献

Previous attempts to deduce the flow parameters of turbidity currents from their deposited sediments have focused on applications of criteria for the suspension or autosuspension of the grains and on hydrodynamic interpretations of the characteristic Bouma sequence of sedimentary structures. There has been a considerable diversity of opinion, however, as to how the transport criteria relate to the observed deposited grain-size distribution, and no attempt has been made to determine whether the separate analyses of deposited sediments and sedimentary structures agree as to the magnitudes of the evaluated flow parameters. Such analyses are performed on a turbidite from the Capistrano Formation (Miocene-Pliocene) of California. This turbidite is normally graded from medium sand at its base to very fine sand and silt at the top, and has the complete sequence of Bouma structures. Only a small degree of cementation has occurred so that samples from the layer could be disaggregated and grain sizes determined both by sieving and sedimentation balance analyses. It was decided to employ the grain-suspension criterion for the calculation of the flow conditions at the time of deposition, published experiments on the pipe-flow of suspensions having demonstrated that this criterion is one of deposition versus non-deposition of grains according to their settling velocities. The published work relating types of sedimentary structures to the sediment grain size and either the flow power or Shield's dimensionless stress is used to evaluate the flow parameters from the observed Bouma sequence. All methods employed yield estimates of the mean flow velocity and bed stress (force per unit bottom area). The evaluated flow parameters for the transition from a flat bed to ripples (Bouma B to C divisions) are nearly an order of magnitude greater than obtained from the grain-suspension criterion where the calculations are based on the median grain size of the deposited sediments. Agreement results only if the calculations utilizing the suspension criterion are based on nearly the coarsest grains deposited at any instant, a procedure that is difficult to justify with the expected sediment deposition from a waning current. Inclusion of other factors, such as possible lags in sediment deposition or ripple formation beneath the decelerating flow, provide no firm explanation as to the cause of the discrepancy between the results based on the two approaches, and in nearly all cases their inclusion would increase the difference. Something is amiss with our procedures for the hydraulic interpretation of sediments which can be resolved only by further study.  相似文献

The sediments of the Madeira Abyssal Plain, east of Great Meteor Seamount, are dominated by distal turbidite deposition. While the turbidites exhibit a wide compositional range (25–80% CaCO3), individual examples can be correlated over a wide area and are relatively homogenous. Organic C oxidation, by bottom water oxygen, proceeds from the turbidite tops downwards after emplacement in pelagic conditions, and the progress of this oxidation front is marked by a sharp colour contrast in the sediments (Wilsonet al., 1985). In turbidites with Corg ? 0.5%, redistribution of authigenic U occurs to form a concentration peak (4–9 ppm U), just below the oxidation front or colour change. Several tens μg U/cm2 may be mobilised, and in all examples studied ?60% of the remobilised U is relocated into the peak. Following burial by subsequent turbidites, such U concentration peaks are persistent as relict indicators of their extinct oxidation fronts for at least 2 × 105 years. In the case of thin turbidites where labile Corg is almost exhausted, the U peaks may be located in underlying sedimentary units because of their relationship to the oxidation front. A redox mechanism for U peak formation is suggested from these data rather than a complexation with organic matter.  相似文献

IODP367/368航次在南海北部深海盆地多个站位发现上中新统厚达数百米的大规模深海浊积岩。采用碎屑锆石U-Pb年龄谱系分析方法对U1500站上中新统浊积砂体进行源汇对比分析。研究结果表明U1500站上中新统浊积岩碎屑锆石年龄谱系与其西侧琼东南盆地和北侧珠江口盆地中新世沉积物特征类似。多维排列分析(MDS)结果也显示,该站位样品与珠江口盆地、琼东南盆地沉积物关系密切,表明南海北部深海盆地内厚达数百米的上中新统浊积砂体为南海北部物源和南海西部物源混合堆积形成。南海西部陆源输入物质以浊流搬运的方式,沿中央峡谷从西到东搬运至南海东部深海盆地;南海北部珠江物源以重力流的形式,经南海北部陆坡峡谷搬运至深海盆地中,两种来源的沉积物在深海盆地发生混合沉积,形成U1500站厚达数百米的浊积砂体。南海北部深海盆地厚层浊积砂体物质来源的准确识别,对深刻理解南海新生代盆地的构造演化、沉积物充填过程、物源演变以及古地理特征均具有重要意义。  相似文献

通过对准噶尔盆地阜东斜坡带侏罗系三工河组的岩性组合、粒度分析和地震反射特征等方面的研究,认为储油砂体主要为浊积岩,岩性为灰色泥岩、灰色中砂岩和灰色粗砂岩夹砂砾岩.岩石成份成熟度和结构成熟度均较低,见典型鲍马沉积序列,浊积扇是不稳定三角洲前缘砂质沉积物向坡折带及深水盆地的再分配的结果.研究该区具有多个浊积扇体,其中阜16井已获得低产油气流,说明阜东斜坡带具有良好的勘探前景.  相似文献
