A three-dimensional finite-element mesoscale model is used to study the interaction of two different but related mesoscale phenomena in an area having a complex pattern of surface heating. The model simulations have been compared with temperature and wind fields observed on a typical fall day during the Kennedy Space Center Atmospheric Boundary Layer Experiment on the east coast of Florida.Numerical results and observations both show that the meso- scale flow field is significantly modified from the conventional coastal-flow patterns by the smaller meso- scale irregular geographic features in this area. A local river breeze is observed to develop around the Indian River almost the same time as the Atlantic sea breeze. A comparison of the sea and the river breezes shows a large difference in their horizontal circulations but only slight differences in their vertical scales. The sea breeze intensifies more rapidly than the river breeze, so that a lag of 1 to 1.5 h exists between their most developed stages. The river breeze is relatively stationary, whereas the sea breeze propagates inland, with an eventual merger of the two circulations occurring about 6–8 h after their onset.Different synoptic wind regimes create different flow structures. Well-defined sea- and river-breeze circulations become established under calm, weak offshore, and weak alongshore synoptic-wind conditions. Maximum vertical velocities occur in the sea-breeze front (river-breeze front) in the cases of calm (offshore winds). In-situ sodar and lidar measurements were coupled with numerical simulations for studying a sea-breeze event in a flat coastal area of the North Sea. The study’s aims included the recognition of the dynamics of a sea-breeze structure, and its effects on the lower troposphere stratification and the three-dimensional (3D) pollutant distribution. A sea breeze was observed with ground-based remote sensing instruments and analysed by means of numerical simulations using the 3D non-hydrostatic atmospheric model Meso-NH. The vertical structure of the lower troposphere was experimentally determined from the lidar and sodar measurements, while numerical simulations focused on the propagation of the sea breeze inland. The sea-breeze front, the headwind, the thermal internal boundary layer, the gravity current and the sea-breeze circulation were observed and analysed. The development of a late stratification was also observed by the lidar and simulated by the model, suggesting the formation of a stable multilayered structure. The transport of passive tracers inside the sea breeze and their redistribution above the gravity current was simulated too. Numerical modelling showed that local pollutants may travel backward to the sea above the gravity current at relatively low speed due to the shearing between the landward gravity current and the seaward synoptic wind. Such dynamic conditions may enhance an accumulation of pollutants above coastal industrial areas.  相似文献

2017年7月21日上午,石家庄地区出现了一次局地暴雨过程,强降水主要集中在石家庄市区及其东部、北部,数值预报产品和主观预报均漏报了此次暴雨过程。本文利用地面加密自动站、多普勒雷达观测资料、雷达风廓线、多普勒雷达四维变分分析系统(VDRAS)以及NCEP再分析资料,分析了造成本次局地暴雨的中尺度对流系统(Mesoseale Convective Systems,MCSs)的触发机制,讨论了该系统的传播方向和影响整体运动的主要因子。结果表明:1)本次强降水发生前受“副高”588 dagpm线控制,降水区高温、高湿,为降水的发生积聚了大量不稳定能量。由于太行山在石家庄附近由东北-西南走向转为西北-东南走向,东北气流在此处逆转为西西北气流,从而在山前形成东北风和西西北风的辐合线;河北东北部秦皇岛、唐山地区因强降水形成较强的雷暴高压、冷池,雷暴高压产生的气压梯度力影响东北风逐渐加强,加强的东北风气流引导冷池呈舌状逐渐西南方向移动到石家庄北部地区,在前述辐合线附近形成低层辐合、中层辐散的不稳定层结,与西部太行山迎风坡对东北气流的强迫抬升共同作用,触发了不稳定能量的释放。2)本次过程前期雷暴在发展加强过程中,MCSs降水形成的雷暴冷出流东北方向移动,移速缓慢,在与环境东北气流辐合的区域,不断有新的雷暴触发,使得雷暴向东北方向传播,此阶段风暴承载层平均风(即MCSs的平移方向)风速较小,MCSs的移动平流不明显,以“后向传播”为主,系统稳定少动,表现为“准静止状态”;随着风暴承载层平均风风速的增加,MCSs的移动方向可以通过Corfidi矢量法,由低空急流的反向矢量和1.5 km以上(850~300 hPa)的平均风速矢量合成得到,且此阶段MCSs自身冷池的移动方向与风暴承载层平均风(西北风)密切相关,对应的雷暴冷出流东南方向移动,使得西北偏冷风冷池出流与环境东南偏暖风形成辐合,在MCSs前部不断有雷暴单体新生,传播方向与平流方向一致,系统“快速”东南方向移动。  相似文献

Abstract

The Barents Sea is divided into a northern and a southern part by the Polar Front (at about 75–76° N) where Atlantic waters descend under Arctic waters. Near to and north of the Polar Front, the spring bloom of phytoplankton is triggered by the stability induced in the upper 20 m by the melting of ice. The pycnocline is too strong to be eroded by wind. Primary productivity after the bloom is therefore small and largely regenerative. Underneath the pycnocline there is a 3–5 m thick layer characterized by dense, slow‐growing algal populations. New productivity north of the Polar Front is no more than 40 g C m?2 a?1.

In permanently open waters south of the Polar Front, the spring bloom starts in early May. Rhythmic wind‐induced mixing related to the atmospheric low‐pressure belt reaches an average 40–60 m depth in the growth season, and secondary phytoplankton maxima may arise. As a result, new annual productivity is more than doubled, i.e. 90 g C m?2 a?1, relative to the same system without wind. Although productivity is highest south of the Polar Front, it is more concentrated north of it, in the sense that high new production is mainly related to a 20–50 km wide belt that sweeps the area following the ice edge northwards while the ice melts through the summer.  相似文献

The thermohaline structure of waters in the East Siberian Sea coastal zone in September 2000, 2003, and 2004 is investigated. It is found that the spatial variability of thermohaline characteristics was determined by various synoptic conditions observed over the East Siberian Sea during the summer-autumn season and by fluctuations in the river discharge. In surface layers, plume fronts are identified. Under conditions of cyclonic atmospheric circulation of 2003, fresh waters spread as a narrow jet along the coast. During anticyclonic circulation of 2004, some meridional fronts existed. Horizontal gradients of thermohaline characteristics were 0.01–0.02°C/km and 0.03–0.07 psu/km off the Indigirka River and 0.02–0.03°C/km and 0.06–0.09 psu/km near the Kolyma River mouth being an order of magnitude less than the vertical ones. The stratification of coastal waters was amplified as the river and ice-melted runoff increased. In the thermohalocline, the average Brunt-Väisälä frequency was 0.042 s?1 (in 2000), 0.068 s?1 (in 2003), and 0.074 s?1 (in 2004).  相似文献

In the period June–July 1992, four Doppler sodars were operated simultaneously in Rome and the surrounding area. The data have been used to investigate the contributions from sea breeze events to the local low-level circulation. Three days in which synoptic-scale pressure gradients were weak have been selected. A number of characteristics of the sea breeze are examined including the onset and cessation of the phenomenon, the behavior of the wind speed, and the depth of the density flow. The time propagation of the events and the influence of orography are obtained from a comparison between the data at different sites. The low-level circulation in the early morning is associated with the land breeze and appears to be enhanced by a mountain wind from the surrounding hills. The observed behavior of the vertical velocity field associated with the sea breeze is consistent with model predictions.  相似文献

利用浙江省常规气象站观测资料、地面自动站加密资料、新一代多普勒天气雷达资料、NCEP GFS分析资料以及WRF中尺度模式,对2013年7月29日发生在宁波市地区的一个局地强雷暴天气过程进行了诊断分析和数值模拟。通过对天气环流和数值模拟结果的分析发现:本次强雷暴过程发生在较稳定的大气背景下,主要影响系统是中尺度辐合线海风锋;多普勒雷达出现弱窄带回波时,对应中尺度辐合线海风锋;海风锋向内陆推进时,对应站点温度降低、湿度增大。WRF模式能较好地模拟出此次雷暴过程以及宁波地区低层海风锋环流,高空回流随时间和空间的演变特征;海风锋的锋生造成的地转强迫促使次级环流加强,在东西风辐合线西侧有垂直上升运动出现;通过与敏感试验的对比可知,海陆热力差异是影响雷暴降水强度、海风锋水平垂直环流的重要因素。  相似文献

基于地面观测和探空资料、NCEP/NCAR 1°×1°再分析资料,利用中尺度分析技术,对2008—2018年暖季(4—10月)发生在浙江中西部地区(简称浙中西)的65次强对流天气过程进行天气形势配置,得到发生在浙中西的雷暴大风、冰雹、短时强降水及混合性强对流的规律特征。结果如下:(1)浙中西强对流天气出现的大尺度环流有5种基本流型配置:干冷气流型(6.2%)、锋生切变型(13.8%)、暖湿气流型(38.5%)、副高边缘型(30.7%)、台风外围型(10.8%),并给出了每种概念模型下的主要物理机制和中尺度特征。(2)分析了不同概念模型下典型强对流天气个例,简要归纳出各种流型下的主要系统配置和演变规律,并将抽象的概念模型应用到实际预报分析中。(3)分析不同流型下强对流的阈值范围,如干冷气流型Iw大风指数平均为26.1 m·s-1,850 hPa与500 hPa温差可达27.5℃,500 hPa相对湿度平均只有15%等,提炼出相似环流形势下不同强天气的主要预报指标,为强对流预报提供量化参考。  相似文献

The turbulent structure of the lake breeze penetration and subsequent development of the thermal internal boundary layer (TIBL) was observed using a kytoon-mounted ultrasonic anemometer-thermometer. The lake breeze penetrated with an upward rolling motion associated with the upward flow near the lake breeze front. After the lake breeze front passed, the behaviors of the velocity and temperature at the top of the lake breeze layer were similar to those found in convective boundary layers (CBL). Comparing gq/*, u /w * and w /w * between the present observation of TIBL development after the passage of the lake breeze front and CBL data from the literature, the /* values showed reasonable agreement; however, u /w * and w /W* had smaller values in the TIBL than in the CBL at higher altitudes. This is due to the differences in the mean velocity profiles. Summary This work presents a statistical study of the wind power potential of three stations in the Catalonia area (Spain) over the 1973–1982 period. These stations correspond to three airports (Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Girona), which obviously do not present a high wind power potential and are not the suitable locations for wind power utilization, but which have been chosen for the long record of data stored (10 years). The aim of this work is to provide a model of wind potential in terms of the speed and wind direction, which may be applied to other sites. The wind speed has been modelled by a Weibull distribution function and the wind direction by a normal two-dimensional function. A spectral analysis of both variables has also been carried out. We analyzed the sea ice conditions in the Bering Sea for the time period 1979–2012, for which good data based on microwave satellite imagery, being able to look through clouds and darkness, are available. The Bering Sea, west of Alaska, is ice-free in summer, but each winter, an extensive sea ice cover is established, reaching its maximum normally in March. We found a slight increase in ice area over the time period, which is in stark contrast to the significant retreat observed in the Beaufort Sea north of Alaska and the Arctic Ocean as a whole. Possible explanation might be found in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), which went from dominantly positive values to more negative values in the last decade. The PDO is related to the sea surface temperature (SST) in the North Pacific, negative values indicated cooler temperatures and cooler SST weakening the semipermanent Aleutian Low. When comparing the circulation pattern obtained from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for Atmospheric Research reanalyzed data set for years of heavy ice against light ice years, an additional vectorial northerly wind component could be deduced from the pressure data. Hence, less relatively warm air is advected into the Bering Sea, which becomes of special importance in winter, when solar radiation is at its minimum. Surface observations confirmed these findings. Atmospheric pressure increased in Cold Bay, located close to the center of the semi-permanent Aleutian Low, the N–S pressure gradient (Nome–Cold Bay) in the Bering Sea decreased, wind speeds of the coastal stations became weakened, and the temperature of coastal stations decreased.  相似文献

基于2015—2017年新疆铁路沿线17个大风监测站的逐时观测资料,分析了南疆线前百公里风区的大风时空分布特征,并与著名的百里风区代表站十三间房气象站进行对比分析,结果表明:前百公里风区通常是指新疆著名的三十里风区和百里风区外又一强风区带,风速强劲,大风历时长,其间以铁泉西至三个泉大桥区段风速最大,代表站三个泉大桥瞬间极大风速比十三间房气象站平均大12.2 m/s;前百公里风区平均风速季节变化规律为夏季春季秋季冬季;5月达到月均风速的最大值,1月为最小值;平均风速日变化呈单峰形式变化。大风情况下前百公里风区沿线主导风向较稳定,为NW(西北风)至N(北风)之间。风区中铁路沿线呈东北—西南走向,正好与大风的主导风向相正交,形成横风,对列车运行可产生较大的危害。  相似文献

Studies of seasonal variability (including the winter season) of the main hydrodynamic, sedimentation, physicochemical and other characteristics of the Chazhma Bay of the Sea of Japan, in the zone of the atomic submarine K-431 nuclear accident of 1985 that influence the radioecological state of the environment was carried out. The substance fluxes required for estimating radionuclide balance are defined based on the expedition survey of radioactivity of bottom sediments, sea water, and suspension in the epicenter of the accident and over the water area of the bay together with hydrophysical, sedimentation, and meteorological observations. Modern trace methods and 3D prognostic modeling of interaction of natural and anthropogenic processes of evolution of radioactive contamination of the bottom sediments in the zone of the atomic submarine accident are used; a new approach to estimating the maximum contamination of the marine environment is proposed.  相似文献

Extreme midlatitude cyclone characteristics, precipitation, wind speed events, their inter-relationships, and the connection to large-scale atmospheric patterns are investigated in simulations of a prolonged cold period, known as the Maunder Minimum from 1640 to 1715 and compared with today. An ensemble of six simulations for the Maunder Minimum as well as a control simulation for perpetual 1990 conditions are carried out with a coupled atmosphere-ocean general circulation model, i.e., the Climate Community System Model (CCSM). The comparison of the simulations shows that in a climate state colder than today the occurrence of cyclones, the extreme events of precipitation and wind speed shift southward in all seasons in the North Atlantic and the North Pacific. The extremes of cyclone intensity increases significantly in winter in almost all regions, which is related to a stronger meridional temperature gradient and an increase in lower tropospheric baroclinicity. Extremes of cyclone intensity in subregions of the North Atlantic are related to extremes in precipitation and in wind speed during winter. Moreover, extremes of cyclone intensity are also connected to distinct large-scale atmospheric patterns for the different subregions, but these relationships vanish during summer. Analyzing the mean 1,000 hPa geopotential height change of the Maunder Minimum simulations compared with the control simulation, we find a similar pattern as the correlation pattern with the cyclone intensity index of the southern Europe cyclones. This illustrates that changes in the atmospheric high-frequency, i.e., the simulated southward shift of cyclones in the North Atlantic and the related increase of extreme precipitation and wind speed in particular in the Mediterranean in winter, are associated with large-scale atmospheric circulation changes.  相似文献

Physical regularities of free oscillations of the Azov Sea level induced after the cessation of long-lasting action of wind are analyzed. Spatial characteristics of seiche oscillations, the position of nodal lines, and the velocity of induced currents are simulated with the three-dimensional nonlinear barotropic hydrodynamic model. It was found that in the coastal zone the maximum amplitude of these oscillations is comparable with the value of storm surges. It is demonstrated that seiches make essential contribution to the variability of velocity of currents.  相似文献

Particle-associated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in outflow from East Asia were observed at Cape Hedo, Okinawa, Japan between 2005 and 2008. The filter samples of the total suspended particles were analyzed by means of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The total concentration of fourteen 3–7-ring PAHs was 0.01–24 ng m?3 (average 1.6 ng m?3). The average PAH concentration increased in the winter-spring season and decreased in the summer-fall season. The average benzo(a)pyrene to benzo(e)pyrene ratio was 0.49 in the winter-spring season and was lower than the literature values for East Asian cities in the same season. This result shows that aging of organic aerosol particles proceeds during long-range transport from East Asia. In the Asian Pacific region, these pollutants are transported from East Asia in the winter-spring season, whereas clean air mass is transported from the Pacific Ocean in the summer-fall season.  相似文献

采用1958年1月—2001年12月ECMWF ERA-40的10m风场资料,以及由该风场资料驱动WAVEWATCHⅢ得到的北印度洋—南海海域44a的海浪场资料,通过EOF分析、正交小波分析和M-K检测方法,分析了北印度洋—南海海域海面风场和有效波高的年代际变化特征。结果表明:北印度洋—南海海域存在3个大风、大浪区,其中亚丁湾以东洋面风力最强,有效波高最高;表面风场和有效波高存在35、15和3a的主周期变化,并自20世纪70年代中期以来,年平均风场和有效波高均存在明显增强趋势,1977年为突变起始年;年平均海表10m风速和有效波高随时间增大主要是由冬季和春季海表10m风速和有效波高随时间增大引起的;冬、秋季海面风场与有效波高的年际、年代际变化周期较一致,冬季以35~40a的周期为主,秋季以11~12a的周期为主。  相似文献
