We have compared the frequency distribution of the dynamical observedquantity log (V z 2 r p), for a sample of 46 pairs of elliptical galaxies, to the distribution of this quantity obtained from numerical simulations of pairs of galaxies. From such an analysis, where we have considered the structure of the galaxies and its influence in the orbital evolution of the system, we have obtained the characteristic mass and the mass-luminosity ratio for the sample. Our results show that the hypothesis of point-mass in elliptical orbits is, for this sample, an approximation as good as the model that takes into account the structure of the galaxies. The statistical method used here gives an estimate of a more reliable mass, it minimizes the contamination of spurious pairs and it considers adequately the contribution of the physical pairs. We have obtained a characteristic mass to the 46 elliptical pairs of 1.68 × 1012 ± 7.01 ×1011 M with M/L = 17.6 ± 7.3 (H 0 = 60 km s-1Mpc-1). Numerical MHD simulations of 3D reconnection events in the solar corona have improved enormously over the last few years, not only in resolution, but also in their complexity, enabling more and more realistic modeling. Various ways to obtain the initial magnetic field, different forms of solar atmospheric models as well as diverse driving speeds and patterns have been employed. This study considers differences between simulations with stratified and non-stratified solar atmospheres, addresses the influence of the driving speed on the plasma flow and energetics, and provides quantitative formulas for mapping electric fields and dissipation levels obtained in numerical simulations to the corresponding solar quantities. The simulations start out from a potential magnetic field containing a null-point, obtained from a Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) magnetogram magnetogram extrapolation approximately 8?hours before a C-class flare was observed. The magnetic field is stressed with a boundary motion pattern similar to?–?although simpler than?–?horizontal motions observed by SOHO during the period preceding the flare. The general behavior is nearly independent of the driving speed, and is also very similar in stratified and non-stratified models, provided only that the boundary motions are slow enough. The boundary motions cause a build-up of current sheets, mainly in the fan-plane of the magnetic null-point, but do not result in a flare-like energy release. The additional free energy required for the flare could have been partly present in non-potential form at the initial state, with subsequent additions from magnetic flux emergence or from components of the boundary motion that were not represented by the idealized driving pattern.  相似文献

Numerical simulations of the evolution of planets or massive satellites captured in the 2/1 and 3/1 resonances, under the action of an anti-dissipative tidal force. The evolution of resonant trapped bodies show a richness of solutions: librations around stationary symmetric solutions with aligned periapses ( = 0) or anti-aligned periapses ( = ), librations around stationary asymmetric solutions in which the periapses configuration is fixed, but with taking values in a wide range of angles. Many of these solutions exist for large values of the eccentricities and, during the semimajor axes drift, the solutions show turnabouts from one configuration to another. The presented results are valid for other non-conservative anti-dissipative forces leading to adiabatic convergent migration and capture into one of these resonances.  相似文献

Different forms of pairs of type III bursts have been discussed in the literature. We report here a new aspect revealed by high time resolution radioheliography. In some groups of these bursts, each element appears to be split into two components. These pairs recur with a characteristic time, and in a given group the time splitting of the two components of each pair is the same (one second or less). The nature of these pairs is discussed: the fundamental-harmonic hypothesis is excluded. Alternative interpretations are reviewed.  相似文献

Magnitude-redshift (m, z) relation within systems of galaxies is studied in detail in several kinds of systems. The main data contains 17 clusters, 64 groups, 121 pairs and 14 systems with two measured members, altogether 1043 galaxies in 162 separate systems. In addition, another sample of nearby groups and pairs, recently published data on six clusters with 121 measured members, as well as 65 compact galaxies in four groups and 23 pairs are studied. In Section 2 the data and the method are described. The numerical results for the main data are given in Table 1. There exists a significant positive (m, z)-relation in groups and pairs, but for clusters the same is valid only with a rather loose selection of members. The (m, z)-relations are calculated separately for each morphological type, but systematic differences between the types are not found. In Section 3 some properties of the velocity (redshift) dispersion σV are discussed. The joint dispersion decreases significantly from the early to the late types. This may point to an early dynamical state of the systems but it is also quite possible that this result is due to a selection effect. The presence of a selection effect in some commonly used samples of systems is indicated by the increase of velocity dispersion σV with increasing distance (Section 4). This effect which was first found for clusters and groups by SCOTT is present also in the larger sample of these systems and in the sample of pairs. Implications of this feature are discussed. As one of them, it is concluded in Section 5 that there exists no separate Canes Venatici cluster of galaxies but the galaxies supposed to form it belong to the Ursa Major cloud of galaxies. Several independent arguments supporting this conclusion are pointed out. In the Ursa Major-Canes Venatici complex of galaxies a distinct positive (m, z)-relation is found. In Section 4 the distance-dependence of the (m, z)-relations is studied and it is found that positive relations are most common for nearby systems. This is natural if the effect is an intergalactic one, the redshift being dependent on the distance of the galaxy. The (m, z)-relations is are studied as function of size of the systems in Section 6. It is found that σV, (m, z) regression coefficient bm, and parameter h which measures strength of redshift within the system, are largest in the systems with smallest radii. The result is opposite to that obtained using the virial theorem. In the Dopplerian context it would mean that the systems disperse the more rapidly the more dense these are. Dependence of the results on the number of data is studied in Section 7. As expected for a real effect, the frequency of positive relations increases with increasing number. The dispersion σV is usually larger in the central areas of the clusters than in the outskirts (Section 8). In these areas, σV is systematically larger for faint galaxies than for bright ones. The reason for large σV for faint galaxies projected on the centre is considered, studying in particular in the Coma cluster the velocity (redshift) distribution, colour-redshirt relation and morphological features which might be used in localization of the galaxies along the line of sight. The results of these three kinds of tests point to the possibility that redshift increases along the line of sight, but the results refer to sparse data and are very uncertain. A similar effect is suggested independently by observations of the galaxies in the background of the clusters. If true, the effect must be non-Dopplerian. In combination with brightness seggregation and preponderance of measured galaxies in the near side over those in the rear, this may cause the observed negative (m, z)-relations for some clusters. In SANDAGE 's and TAMMANN 's sample of nearby groups and pairs redshift appears dependent on luminosity class. This points to intrinsic redshifts in faint galaxies (Section 9). A similar implication is valid for the positive (m, z)-relations in the case of pairs and groups of compact galaxies (Section 10). Since there are indications of physical association in the latter case, the result cannot be explained by optical members. The present results are compared with previous ones in Section 11. This includes a study of redshifts with regard to brightness and surface brightness simultaneously, leading to a new statistical definition of relative compacity of galaxies belonging to the systems. Recent observations not included in the main data are viewed in Section 12. These show a positive (m, z)-relation. Interpretation of the results is discussed in Sections 13 and 14. From the numerous ones, three main possibilities remain, i. e. projected galaxies, intrinsic redshifts in faint galaxies and non-Dopplerian integalactic redshifts. There are several arguments suggesting that chance projections are not the principal explanation of the positive (m, z)-relations. If so, intrinsic redshifts in faint galaxies give probably the main explanation for pairs and small groups and integralactic redshifts for larger systems. This is in accordance with the general view of the redshift phenomenon in other scales. However, definitive proof of this conclusion could not be obtained from the present data which, though considerably large in number, is too small regarding the complexity of the problem.  相似文献

In a recent paper Ballersteros and Ragnisco (1998) have proposed a new method of constructing integrable Hamiltonian systems. A new class of integrable systems may be devised using the following sequence: , where A is a Lie algebra is a Lie–Poisson structure on R 3, C is a Casimir for is a reduced Poisson bracket and (A, ▵) is a bialgebra. We study the relation between a Lie-Poisson stucture Λ and a reduced Poisson bracket , which is a key element in using the Lie algebra A to constructing this sequence. We study the magnetic field evolution and topology of the active region NOAA 10486 before the 3B/X1.2 flare of October 26, 2003, using observational data from the French–Italian THEMIS telescope, the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) onboard Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), the Solar Magnetic Field Telescope (SMFT) at Huairou Solar Observation Station (HSOS), and the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE). Three dimensional (3D) extrapolation of photospheric magnetic field, assuming a potential field configuration, reveals the existence of two magnetic null points in the corona above the active region. We look at their role in the triggering of the main flare, by using the bright patches observed in TRACE 1600 Å images as tracers at the solar surface of energy release associated with magnetic reconnection at the null points. All the bright patches observed before the flare correspond to the low-altitude null point. They have no direct relationship with the X1.2 flare because the related separatrix is located far from the eruptive site. No bright patch corresponds to the high-altitude null point before the flare. We conclude that eruptions can be triggered without pre-eruptive coronal null point reconnection, and the presence of null points is not a sufficient condition for the occurrence of flares. We propose that this eruptive flare results from the loss of equilibrium due to persistent flux emergence, continuous photospheric motion and strong shear along the magnetic neutral line. The opening of the coronal field lines above the active region should be a byproduct of the large 3B/X1.2 flare rather than its trigger.  相似文献

The coronal magnetic field above a particular photospheric region will vanish at a certain number of points, called null points. These points can be found directly in a potential field extrapolation or their density can be estimated from the Fourier spectrum of the magnetogram. The spectral estimate, in which the extrapolated field is assumed to be random and homogeneous with Gaussian statistics, is found here to be relatively accurate for quiet Sun magnetograms from SOHO’s MDI. The majority of null points occur at low altitudes, and their distribution is dictated by high wavenumbers in the Fourier spectrum. This portion of the spectrum is affected by Poisson noise, and as many as five-sixths of null points identified from a direct extrapolation can be attributed to noise. The null distribution above 1500 km is found to depend on wavelengths that are reliably measured by MDI in either its low-resolution or high-resolution mode. After correcting the spectrum to remove white noise and compensate for the modulation transfer function we find that a potential field extrapolation contains, on average, one magnetic null point, with altitude greater than 1.5 Mm, above every 322 Mm2 patch of quiet Sun. Analysis of 562 quiet Sun magnetograms spanning the two latest solar minima shows that the null point density is relatively constant with roughly 10% day-to-day variation. At heights above 1.5 Mm, the null point density decreases approximately as the inverse cube of height. The photospheric field in the quiet Sun is well approximated as that from discrete elements with mean flux 〈|φ|〉=1.0×1019 Mx distributed randomly with density n=0.007 Mm−2.  相似文献

How common are magnetic null points in the highly complex magnetic field of the solar atmosphere? In this work we seek to model the magnetic structure of quiet regions by placing magnetic sources and sinks on a hexagonal network of supergranule cells to represent the intense magnetic fields that occur at the boundaries of these cells. The resulting potential coronal magnetic field is then computed analytically and searched numerically for magnetic null points, which are classified according to their types and spine directions. Two relations from the theory of vector fields relate the numbers of null points to the numbers of sources and sinks and these are used to check the numerical results. Previous results relating these quantities for monopolar and dipolar magnetic fields are described and a new one for a particular class of quadrupolar fields arising in this study is derived. We model a three-cell configuration and study the effects of increasing the strength of a central sink and of moving the central sink. A twelve-cell configuration is studied in lesser detail.

The dynamic evolution of wide star pairs (separated by 104 AU for typical galactic conditions) under the influence of random interactions with background stars during transits is studied theoretically. Transits which form a roughly equilateral triangle at some time are considered. The combined effect of many transits can be separated into systematic heating of the pair plus random diffusion over the Kepler elements a and e. The corresponding Fokker-Planck equation is derived and its range of validity indicated. A steady state distribution over a and e is obtained.  相似文献

Major-mergeing pairs of galaxies are excellent experimental objects to study the simultaneous influences of galaxy itself and the external environment, which can be traced by the changes of star formation rates. These effects, including the stellar mass of galaxies, the projected distance, and the relative inclination of pairs of galaxies, are all important factors related to star formation rates. The results imply that the galaxies with the greater star formation rates tend to be caused by the greater stellar masses, and the galaxies with relative inclinations close to parallel also have greater increases about star formation. However, the projected distances have no correlation with the star formation rates in the scope of this study.  相似文献

A saddle-like structure is clearly discerned in SOHO EIT images in the Fe wavebands in the active region NOAA 8113, from 6 to 10 December 1997, when the active region reached the solar limb. It appears after the emergence of a small patch of parasitic polarity near the footpoints of the loops forming the outer boundary of an arcade. There is a 3D null point in the center of the saddle. The height of the null is in good agreement with the relationship between the parasitic flux and the background magnetic field. In spite of the fact that a saddle-like or hyperbolic magnetic configuration is usually assumed as the necessary condition for magnetic field-line reconnection and magnetic energy release, no additional heating is observed inside the saddle structure. Moreover, interior parts of the saddle seem to be darker than the neighbouring loops of the arcade.  相似文献
