Abstract

A resistivity survey in Wenner arrangement has been conducted in the water-table aquifer in the eastern part of the Coastal Area of Belgium. Bore holes have been drilled to test the geoelectrical data and also to collect water samples. The chemical characteristics and the distribution of different water types explain the hydrochemistry of the water-table aquifer. The fresh-/brackish-water boundary as determined by the resistivity survey has been expressed in terms of total dissolved-solids content.  相似文献

Abstract

Geoelectric resistivity measurements by means of direct current for solving hydrogeological problems have become increasingly significant in recent years. Measurements on the surface according to the four-point-method (SCHLUMBERGER or WENNER arrangement) result in so-called “apparent” resistivities ? α as a function of the electrode distance L. The evaluation of these measuring data, here in form of sounding graphs ? α(L/2), consists of the determination of true resistivities as a function of the depth z. Since a direct computation of ? (z) from α (L/2) is not possible in practice, theoretically computed master curves constitute the essential auxiliary means for the evaluation.

New simplified calculation techniques allow to establish accurately computed master curves for an underground consisting of more than three layers. By means of such standard graphs special problems of hydrogeology can quantitatively be solved by applying geoelectrical methods. The procedure is demonstrated on hand of complicated cases of aquifers devided into several storeys.  相似文献

A model has been set up for the interpretation of geoelectrical sounding data for certain kinds of clay deposits containing gradually varying amounts of sand. The model assumes that in the so-called gradient layer, resistivity varies linearly with depth. Model calculations show how such a layer can be replaced by two homogeneous layers. An inversion procedure using the Marquardt algorithm has been developed for the interpretation of sounding data obtained with the Schlumberger array; it assumes a gradient layer beneath several covering layers. The procedure is demonstrated on two clay deposits. A comparison is made between the newly developed interpretation, the traditional approach using model curves, and computerized inversion for a homogeneous layer model.  相似文献

Abstract

A geographical information system (GIS) was used for the integration of hydrological data acquired using remote sensing and geoelectrical techniques to understand the groundwater condition of Bakhar watershed, Mirazpur District, UP, India. Indian remote sensing IRS-1D, LISS—III data were used to prepare a geomorphological and lineament map of the Bakhar watershed. Vertical electrical sounding (VES) was carried out in different geomorphic units, and ranges of electrical resistivity values were assigned to the different formations by calibrating electrical resistivity with borehole data. Based on these, a subsurface resistivity map and an aquifer thickness map were prepared. Several layers were superimposed using GIS techniques. Each theme was assigned a weight, depending on its influence on groundwater recharge. Each class or unit in the map was assigned a knowledge-based rank from one to four, depending on its significance in storage and transmittance of groundwater, and these were then multiplied by the layer weighting to produce a score. Based on these scores, the watershed was categorized into different groundwater potential zones. The results indicate that the eastern and northern parts of the study area have very good groundwater potential to meet the demands of water for irrigation and domestic purposes, whereas the southern region has poor groundwater potential zones. Such integrated analysis has not been attempted so far in this region for hydrogeological investigation.  相似文献

The interpretation of vertical electrical sounding data can be facilitated by the application of the reciprocal geoelectric section. If an apparent resistivity field curve has a descending right end, the apparent resistivity curve of the reciprocal geoelectric section can be obtained by the application of linear filter theory; from this the total transverse resistance of the geoelectric section can be calculated without having to interpret the field curve. In addition, Orellana's auxiliary point method can now be extended to interpret three and four layer apparent resistivity curves of all types. This paper summarizes the properties of the resistivity transform curve, the apparent resistivity curve, and the apparent resistivity curve of the reciprocal geoelectric section, with several new applications.  相似文献

In this paper a numerical method of direct interpretation of geoelectrical soundings is described. It has similarities with already existing direct methods, but owing to its simplicity and, in particular, to the possibility of applying it also without digital computers, it proves useful mostly in the field, where very often an accurate method for the interpretation of multi-layer curves is required. The direct interpretation system splits up into three steps: i) the evaluation of the resistivity transform after application of Hankel's inversion theorem; ii) the determination of the layer distribution after application of Koefoed's recurrent procedure; iii) the control of the solution. Each step is considered and the practical procedures suggested. Finally two field examples are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Following up our recent study of an indirect procedure for the practical determination of the maximum frequency-effect, defined as fe = 1 ? pρdc with ρ the resistivity at infinite frequency, we show at first how, through the Laplace transform theory, ρ can be related to stationary field vectors in the simple form of Ohm's law. Then applying the equation of continuity for stationary currents with a suitable set of boundary conditions, we derive the integral expression of the apparent resistivity at infinite frequency ρ,a in the case of a horizontally layered earth. Finally, from the definition of the maximum apparent frequency-effect, analytical expressions of feα are obtained for both Schlumberger and dipole arrays placed on the surface of the multi-layered earth section in the most general situation of vertical changes in induced polarization together with dc resistivity variations not at the same interfaces. Direct interpretation procedures are suggested for obtaining the layering parameters directly from the analysis of the sounding curves.  相似文献

Abstract

An aquifer can be used not only as water source but also as a regulating reservoir linked to a water supply system, planning the operation of such reservoirs calls for a good knowledge of the characteristics and limitations of the aquifer, an estimate of its natural replenishment and outflows, as weil as the determination of a programme for pumping and artificial recharge.

A limestone aquifer of karstic nature, heavily exploited and artificially recharged, has been studied recently with respect to its storage capacity and responses to a planned scheme of operations established for the national water supply systems.

The physical characteristics of this aquifer, its inflows, outflows and dynamic behaviour, were first determined by geological and hydrological investigations. The dynamic model obtained was then verified and improved by use of a resistor-capacitor electric analog constructed for this purpose. Later on, several operational alternatives were tested on the same analog. An optimization analysis was performed on a simplified single cell model representing the aquifer system. The methodology of such integrational operation is discussed in light of the results obtained.  相似文献

The time variation of a source of alternating current produces an electromagnetic coupling between the transmitting and receiving systems in induced electrical polarization and resistivity surveys that employ horizontal electrical sounding. The coupling alters, sometimes significantly, the resistivity and chargeability values and, consequently, compromises the interpretation of the data. This work develops the analysis of this coupling on the time domain for both a homogeneous Earth and an Earth constituted of several homogeneous horizontal layers. Based on the results, it evaluates the theoretical variation of the voltage and compares it to observed data of an induced electrical polarization and resistivity survey with horizontal electrical sounding. The comparative study of the voltage decay curves assesses the contribution of the electromagnetic coupling to the values of the chargeability and apparent resistivity as a function of the bipole length and the period of the source current. Besides that, the respective pseudosections have delineated the horizontal and vertical variations of those two electrical properties, providing the interpretation of the geoelectrical section. This research is important for the oil industry because it may furnish information that help to: (i) define the structure of the sedimentary strata; (ii) estimate the clay content of the sandstones; and (iii) detect the possible presence of metallic sulphide halos at fractured zones of the sediments above the oil reservoir. It may be adapted to analysis of EM coupling in both resistive and induced electric well logs.  相似文献

Summary The results of some electrical sounding measurements have been used for defining potential groundwater zones in part of Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The area covered is a part of gangetic alluvial tract. Aquifers consist of lenticular sand masses distributed within the alluvium. The ideal geoelectrical conditions, generally desired for the interpretation of resistivity curves, lack in the area. Among the number of layers encountered in lithologs, only a few are delineated by quantitative interpretation of the sounding data. A study of the total transverse resistance and longitudinal conductance for a particular depth of the alluvial column has helped in defining potential groundwater zones.

Abstract

Considering the geological conditions of the southwest of Boroujerd and northwest of Doroud, Iran, karst development is analysed with respect to the hydrodynamic behaviour of the main draining springs of the units and the karstic aquifers are classified as either those developed in Cretaceous limestone or those developed in Oligomiocene limestone. For this purpose, the yields of the main karstic springs of the region—Absardeh and Zoorabad (Cretaceous karstic limestone aquifer), Kalamsooz and Azizabad (Oligomiocene karstic limestone aquifer)—were measured and analysed. Analysis of the recession curve is used for hydrodynamical analysis and to construct the conceptual model for estimation of karst development in the selected aquifers. Based on the results, the dynamic storage capacity of the saturated zone in Cretaceous limestone is evaluated as low to medium and that in Oligomiocene limestone as medium to high. The dynamic storage capacity of the unsaturated zone in Cretaceous limestone is evaluated as high and that in Oligomiocene limestone as low to medium. Moreover, the contribution of quickflow in karstic aquifers developed in the Cretaceous limestone drained by the Absardeh and Zoorabad springs is 23.5 and 82.2%, respectively, and that for the Kalamsooz and Azizabad springs (Oligomiocene limestone) is 5.7 and 22.5%, respectively. Flow in the Cretaceous limestone aquifer drained by the Zoorabad Spring is of concentrated type and the main flow occurs in the well-developed karstic conduits. The main flow in the Oligomiocene limestone aquifer, drained by the Kalamsooz Spring, occurs in a network of joints and fractures and the contribution of concentrated flow is very low. The transmissivity of the saturated zone in the karstic aquifer drained by the Zoorabad and Absardeh springs is medium to high and that for the Kalamsooz and Azizabad springs is found to be low.  相似文献

This paper deals with a new method of quantitative interpretation of induced polarization soundings in the frequency-domain. From the general expression of the apparent frequency-effect for soundings carried out on a multi-layered earth the application of Hankel's inversion theorem allows to introduce a new function, called here the “frequency-effect transform”. The new interpretation method consists of two steps: 1) the inversion of field data to obtain the frequency-effect transform graph and 2) the analysis of this graph to derive the layering parameters. The first step is performed by means of a slightly revised version of a simple numerical procedure, previously suggested by the author for the inversion of d.c. resistivity sounding data. The second step is carried out by a complete curve-matching procedure, applied directly on the transform graph. This implies suitable master curves, whose preparation doesn't meet all the mathematical difficulties which are present when preparing master curves of the apparent frequency-effect function.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the Earth’s electromagnetic field, a deep geoelectrical section, and the dynamics of earth conductivity. This analysis is based on MTS curves along directions that to a first approximation go along and across southern Kamchatka. It is shown that the longitudinal and transverse MTS curves are subject to the influence of local and regional geoelectrical inhomogeneities. The coast effect was studied by 3-D numerical modeling. The patterns we have found were used for interpretation of generalized MTS curves. The resulting parameters of the geoelectrical section were refined by reducing the longitudinal curve to the standard curve of apparent resistivity. The results from this interpretation are to be refined as more geoelectrical information is forthcoming. The dynamics of lithospheric conductivity were studied from data acquired during the 2005–2008 monitoring of magnetotelluric impedance in the range of periods between several hundred and several thousand seconds. The basis for the analysis was assumed to be the transverse impedance and its phase. The latter was found to exhibit anomalous bay fluctuations that might have been related to earthquakes. A possible origin of these anomalies is discussed.  相似文献

Matrix equations are derived to transform the resistivity sounding data obtained in one type of a four-electrode array to the corresponding resistivity sounding data that would be obtained using a different four-electrode array. These expressions are based primarily on recent work in which we have established a linear relation between the apparent resistivity and the kernel function by using a powerful exponential approximation for the kernel function. It is shown that the resistivity sounding data of two different four-electrode arrays have a linear relation through an essentially non-singular matrix operator and, as such, one is derivable from the other for a one-dimensional model and it can also be extended to two-dimensions. Some numerical examples considering synthetic data are presented which demonstrates the efficiency of the method in such transformations. Two published field examples are also considered for transformation giving a reliable interpretation.  相似文献

In this paper a theorem is demonstrated which allows—after the introduction of a suitable dipole kernel function or dipole resistivity transform function—to write the apparent resistivity function as an Hankel transformable integral expression. As a practical application of the theorem a procedure of quantitative interpretation of dipole soundings is suggested in which the dipole resistivity transform function obtained after inversion of the original dipole apparent resistivity data is used to control the goodness of the set of layering parameters which have been derived with our previous method of transformation of dipole sounding curves into equivalent Schlumberger diagrams.  相似文献

An electrical prospecting survey is conducted in the Rharb basin, a semi‐arid region in the southern part of the Rifean Cordillera (Morocco) to delineate characteristics of the aquifer and the groundwater affected by the marine intrusion related to Atlantic Ocean. Analysis and interpretations of electrical soundings, bi‐logarithmic diagrams and the geoelectrical sections highlight a monolayer aquifer in the southern part, a multilayer system in the northern part of the Rharb basin and lenticular semi‐permeable formations. Several electrical layers have been deduced from the analysis of bi‐logarithmic diagrams: resistant superficial level (R0), conducting superficial level (C0), resistant level (R), intermediary resistant level (R′), conducting level (Cp) and intermediary layer of resistivity (AT). Spatial distribution of the resistivity deduced from the interpretation of apparent resistivity maps (AB = 400 and 1000 m) and the decreasing of resistivity values (35–10 Ωm), in particular in the coastal zone show that this heterogeneity is related to several anomalies identified in the coastal area, which result from hydraulic and geological processes: (i) heterogeneous hydraulic conductivity in particular in the southern part of the Rharb; (ii) lateral facies and synsedimentary faulting and (iii) the relationship between the electrical conductivity and chloride concentration of groundwater shows that salinity is the most important factor controlling resistivity. The distribution of fresh/salt‐water zones and their variations in space along geoelectrical sections are established through converting subsurface depth‐resistivity models. Three-component seismic and geoelectrical in-mine surveys were carried out in Lyukobanya colliery near Miskolc, Hungary to determine the in situ petrophysical parameter distributions and to detect inhomogeneities in the coal seam. The seismic measurements comprise an underground vertical seismic profile, using body waves, and an in-seam seismic amplitude-depth distribution and transmission survey, using channel waves. The geoelectrical measurements are based on the drift- and seam-sounding method. Interval traveltime-, amplitude-, multiple-filter- and polarization analysis methods are applied to the seismic data. They lead to a five-layer model for the strata including the coal seam. The coal seam and two underlying beds act as a seismic waveguide. The layer sequence supports the propagation of both normal and leaky mode channel waves of the Love- and Rayleigh type. A calculation of the total reflected energy for each interface using Knott's energy coefficients shows that the velocity ranges of high reflection energy and of normal and leaky mode wavegroups coincide. The excitation of wavegroups strongly depends on the seismic source. A simultaneous inversion of a geoelectrical drift- and seam-sounding survey prevents misinterpretations of the seismic data by clearly identifying the low-velocity coal seam as a high-resistivity bed. Calculations of dispersion and sounding curves improve the resolution of the slowness and resistivity in each layer. Both diminished amplitudes and distortions in the polarization of transmission seismo-grams and decreasing resistivities in a geoelectrical pseudosection of the coal seam are related to an inhomogeneity. A calculation of synthetic seismograms for Love and Rayleigh channel waves with the finite-difference and the Alekseev-Mikhailenko method agrees well with the field data for the main features, i.e., particular arrivals in the wave train, wavegroups, velocities and symmetries or asymmetries. This in-mine experiment demonstrates that the simultaneous acquisition, processing and interpretation of seismic and geoelectrical data improve the lithological interpretation of petrophysical parameter distributions. Coal seam inhomogeneities can also be detected more reliably by the two independent surveys than by one alone.  相似文献

Electrical resistivity sounding was attempted with success in 1960 on the surface of the Nile water in Khor Kundi El-Bahari, the starting place for the construction of the offset channel of the High Dam. The method was applied to determine the depth to the upper surface of the granite below the alluvium and Nile water. The success of the method conducted at two stations in the Khor is attributed to the favourable geological conditions of the section which consists of nearly homogeneous layers besides the good earthing conditions of electrodes dipped in water. The high resistivity contrast between water and granite facilitates interpretation of sounding curves. Factors interfering with the results of interpretation are mentioned.  相似文献

Abstract

The use of a multivariate analysis approach to rationalize a piezometric network is not new. The utilization of its results for the distinction of zones with particular fluctuation patterns is a contribution which has fruitful outcomes. This technique was applied with success to the Erbil hydrogeological basin in Iraq where a network of only 15 wells out of an original network of 68 wells (monitored for about three years) is retained for the purpose of future monitoring of the yearly changes in the aquifer storage. This new network represents at least four fluctuation patterns of the piezometric surface in two different aquifers.  相似文献
