Theoretical electron-temperature-sensitive Mg ix emission line ratios are presented for R
I = I(443.96 )/ I(368.06 ), R
2 = I(439.17 )/ I(368.06 ), R
3 = I(443.37 )/ I(368.06 ), R
4 = I(441.22 )/ I(368.06 ), and R
5 = I(448.28 )/ I(368.06 ). A comparison of these with observational data for a solar active region, obtained during a rocket flight by the Solar EUV Rocket Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS), reveals excellent agreement between theory and observation for R
1 through R
4, with discrepancies that average only 9%. This provides experimental support for the accuracy of the atomic data adopted in the line ratio calculations, and also resolves discrepancies found previously when the theoretical results were compared with solar data from the S082A instrument on board Skylab. However in the case of R
5, the theoretical and observed ratios differ by almost a factor of 2. This may be due to the measured intensity of the 448.28 line being seriously affected by instrumental effects, as it lies very close to the long wavelength edge of the SERTS spectral coverage (235.46–448.76 ). 相似文献

New R -matrix calculations of electron impact excitation rates for transitions among the 2s 22p, 2s2p 2 and 2p 3 levels of Si x are presented. These data are subsequently used, in conjunction with recent estimates for proton excitation rates, to derive theoretical electron density sensitive emission-line ratios involving transitions in the ∼253–356 Å wavelength range. A comparision of these with observations of a solar active region and subflare, obtained during the 1989 flight of the Solar EUV Rocket Telescope and Spectrograph ( SERTS ), reveals that the electron densities determined from most of the Si x line ratios are consistent with one another for both solar features. In addition, the derived densities are also in good agreement with the values of N e estimated from diagnostic lines in other species formed at similar electron temperatures to Si x , such as Fe xii and Fe xiii . These results provide observational support for the general accuracy of the adopted atomic data, and hence line ratio calculations, employed in the present analysis. However, we find that the Si x 256.32-Å line is blended with the He ii transition at the same wavelength, while the feature at 292.25 Å is not due to Si x , but currently remains unidentified. The intensity of the 253.81-Å line in the SERTS active region spectrum is about a factor of 3 larger than expected from theory, but the reason for this is unclear, and requires additional observations to explain the discrepancy. 相似文献

The EUV spectrum of a solar active region observed by SERTS-89 is used to estimate physical parameters such as electron density, elemental abundance and inhomogeneity in the emitting source. A total of 13 ions, namely, Neiv-vi, Mgv-ix, Sivii-x and Sx, are studied in the SERTS spectral range 170-450 Ú, providing plasma diagnostics at temperatures between10 5 –10 6 K. Attention is called to results derived from ion pairs of different elements that are formed over similar temperature regimes, which allow special checks on the standard assumptions of spectral analyses. Some EUV lines, not originally reported in the SERTS-89 spectrum, are shown to have measureable intensities and are indicated for future observations. 相似文献

New theoretical electron-density-sensitive Fe xii emission line ratios $$R_1 = I(3s^2 3p^3 {}^4S_{3/2} - 3s3p^4 {}^4P_{5/2} )/I(3s^2 3p^3 {}^2P_{3/2} - 3s3p^4 D_{5/2} )$$ and $$R_2 = I(3s^2 3p^3 {}^2P_{3/2} - 3s3p^4 {}^2D_{5/2} )/I(3s^2 3p^3 {}^4S_{3/2} - 3s3p^2 P_{3/2} )$$ are derived using R-matrix electron impact excitation rate calculations. We have identified the Fe xii \(3s^2 3p^3 {}^4S_{3/2} - 3s3p^4 {}^4P_{5/2} ,{\text{ }}3s^2 3p^3 {}^2P_{3/2} - 3s^3 3p^4 {}^2D_{5/2} ,{\text{ }}3s^2 3p^3 S_{3/2} - 3s^2 3p^3 P_{3/2} \) and \(3s^2 3p^3 {}^4S_{3/2} - 3s^2 3p^3 {}^2P_{1/2}\) transitions in an active region spectrum obtained with the Harvard S-055 spectrometer on board Skylab at wavelengths of 364.0, 382.8, 1241.7, and 1349.4 Å, respectively. Electron densities determined from the observed values of R 1 (log N e ? 11.0) and R 2(log N e ? 11.4) are significantly larger than the typical active region measurements, but are similar to those derived from some active region spectra observed with the Skylab 2082A instrument, which provides observational support for the atomic data adopted in the line ratio calculations, and also for the identification of the Fe xii transitions in the S-055 spectrum. However the observed value of R 3 = I(1349.4 Å)/ I(1241.7 Å) is approximately a factor of two larger than one would expect from theory which, considering that the 1349.4 Å line lies at the edge of the S-055 wavelength coverage, may reflect errors in the instrument efficiency curve. Another possibility is that the 1349.4 Å transition is blended, probably with Si ii 1350.1 Å. 相似文献

Recent fully relativistic calculations of radiative rates and electron impact excitation cross-sections for Fe xiii are used to generate emission-line ratios involving 3s 23p 2–3s3p 3 and 3s 23p 2–3s 23p3d transitions in the 170–225 and 235–450 Å wavelength ranges covered by the Solar Extreme-Ultraviolet Research Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS). A comparison of these line ratios with SERTS active region observations from rocket flights in 1989 and 1995 reveals generally very good agreement between theory and experiment. Several new Fe xiii emission features are identified, at wavelengths of 203.79, 259.94, 288.56 and 290.81 Å. However, major discrepancies between theory and observation remain for several Fe xiii transitions, as previously found by Landi and others, which cannot be explained by blending. Errors in the adopted atomic data appear to be the most likely explanation, in particular for transitions which have 3s 23p3d 1D 2 as their upper level. The most useful Fe xiii electron-density diagnostics in the SERTS spectral regions are assessed, in terms of the line pairs involved being (i) apparently free of atomic physics problems and blends, (ii) close in wavelength to reduce the effects of possible errors in the instrumental intensity calibration, and (iii) very sensitive to changes in N e over the range 10 8–10 11 cm −3 . It is concluded that the ratios which best satisfy these conditions are 200.03/202.04 and 203.17/202.04 for the 170–225 Å wavelength region, and 348.18/320.80, 348.18/368.16, 359.64/348.18 and 359.83/368.16 for 235–450 Å. 相似文献

3 transitions in Sxi between 187 and 292 Å are presented. A comparison of these with solar active region observations obtained during rocket flights by the Solar EUV Rocket Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS) reveals generally good agreement between theory and experiment. However, the 186.87 Å line is masked by fairly strong Fexii emission at the same wavelength, while 239.83 Å is blended with an unknown feature, and 285.58 Å is blended with possibly Niv 285.56 Å. In addition, the 191.23 Å line appears to be more seriously blended with an Fexiii feature than previously believed. The presence of several new Sxi lines is confirmed in the SERTS spectra, at wavelengths of 188.66, 247.14 and 291.59 Å, in excellent agreement with laboratory measurements. In particular, the detection of the 2 s

Electron impact excitation rates for transitions in the S v ion, calculated with the R-matrix code, are used to derive the electron temperature sensitive emission line ratios R
1 = I(854.8 Å)/ I(786.9 Å), R
2 = I(852.2 Å)/ I(786.9 Å), R
3 = I(849.2 Å)/ I(786.9 Å), and R
4 = I(1199.1 Å)/ I(786.9 Å), which are found to be significantly different from previous estimates. A comparison of the present results with observational data for a sunspot obtained with the Harvard S-055 spectrometer on board Skylab reveals generally good agreement between theory and experiment, except in the case of R
1, which is probably due to blending in the 854.8 Å feature. The possible effects of Lyman continuum absorption on the observed line ratios is briefly discussed. 相似文献

Recent R-matrix calculations of electron impact excitation rates in Mg-like Fe xv are used to derive theoretical emission-line ratios involving transitions in the 243–418 Å wavelength range. A comparison of these with a data set of solar active region, subflare and off-limb spectra, obtained during rocket flights by the Solar Extreme-Ultraviolet Research Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS), reveals generally very good agreement between theory and observation, indicating that most of the Fe xv emission lines may be employed with confidence as electron density diagnostics. In particular, the 312.55-Å line of Fe xv is not significantly blended with a Co xvii transition in active region spectra, as suggested previously, although the latter does make a major contribution in the subflare observations. Most of the Fe xv transitions which are blended have had the species responsible clearly identified, although there remain a few instances where this has not been possible. We briefly address the long-standing discrepancy between theory and experiment for the intensity ratio of the 3s 2 1S–3s3p 3P 1 intercombination line at 417.25 Å to the 3s 2 1S–3s3p 1P resonance transition at 284.16 Å. 相似文献

3 transitions in Si?ix between 223 and 350 Å are presented. A comparison of these with an extensive dataset of solar-active-region, quiet-Sun, subflare and off-limb observations, obtained during rocket flights by the Solar EUV Research Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS), reveals generally very good agreement between theory and experiment. This provides support for the accuracy of the line-ratio diagnostics, and hence the atomic data on which they are based. In particular, the density-sensitive intensity ratio I(258.10 Å)/I(349.87 Å) offers an especially promising diagnostic for studies of coronal plasmas, as it involves two reasonably strong emission lines and varies by more than an order of magnitude over the useful density range of 109–1011 cm?3. We have analyzed the Cassini Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (UVIS) observations of the Jupiter aurora with an auroral atmosphere two-stream electron transport code. The observations of Jupiter by UVIS took place during the Cassini Campaign. The Cassini Campaign included support spectral and imaging observations by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS). A major result for the UVIS observations was the identification of a large color variation between the far ultraviolet (FUV: 1100-1700 Å) and extreme ultraviolet (EUV: 800-1100 Å) spectral regions. This change probably occurs because of a large variation in the ratio of the soft electron flux (10-3000 eV) responsible for the EUV aurora to the hard electron flux (∼15-22 keV) responsible for the FUV aurora. On the basis of this result a new color ratio for integrated intensities for EUV and FUV was defined (4 πI1550-1620 Å/4 πI1030-1150 Å) which varied by approximately a factor of 6. The FUV color ratio (4 πI1550-1620 Å/4 πI1230-1300 Å) was more stable with a variation of less than 50% for the observations studied. The medium resolution (0.9 Å FWHM, G140M grating) FUV observations (1295-1345 Å and 1495-1540 Å) by STIS on 13 January 2001, on the other hand, were analyzed by a spectral modeling technique using a recently developed high-spectral resolution model for the electron-excited H 2 rotational lines. The STIS FUV data were analyzed with a model that considered the Lyman band spectrum (B ) as composed of an allowed direct excitation component (X ) and an optically forbidden component (X followed by the cascade transition ). The medium-resolution spectral regions for the Jupiter aurora were carefully chosen to emphasize the cascade component. The ratio of the two components is a direct measurement of the mean secondary electron energy of the aurora. The mean secondary electron energy of the aurora varies between 50 and 200 eV for the polar cap, limb and auroral oval observations. We examine a long time base of Galileo Ultraviolet Spectrometer color ratios from the standard mission (1996-1998) and compare them to Cassini UVIS, HST, and International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) observations. 相似文献

We present extensive spectroscopic observations of supernova remnant(SNR) S147 collected with the Large sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope(LAMOST). The spectra were carefully sky-subtracted taking into account the complex filamentary structure of S147. We have utilized all available LAMOST spectra toward S147, including sky and stellar spectra. By measuring the prominent optical emission lines including Hα, [NⅡ]λ 6584 and [SⅡ]λλ 6717, 6731, we present maps of radial velocity and line intensity ratio covering the whole nebula of S147 with unprecedented detail. The maps spatially correlate well with the complex filamentary structure of S147. For the central 2?of S147, the radial velocity varies from-100 to 100 km s~(-1) and has peaks between~0 and 10 km s~(-1). The intensity ratios of Hα/[S Ⅱ]λλ 6717, 6731, [SⅡ]λ 6717/λ 6731 and Hα/[NⅡ]λ 6584 peak at about 0.77, 1.35 and 1.48, respectively, with a scatter of 0.17, 0.19 and 0.37, respectively. The intensity ratios are consistent with the literature values. However, the range of variations of line intensity ratios estimated here,which are representative of the whole nebula, is larger than previously estimated. 相似文献

We observed solar prominences with the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) at the Big Bear Solar Observatory on 30 June 2010 and 15 August 2011. To determine the temperature of the prominence material, we applied a nonlinear least-squares fitting of the radiative transfer model. From the Doppler broadening of the Hα and Ca ii lines, we determined the temperature and nonthermal velocity separately. The ranges of temperature and nonthermal velocity were 4000?–?20?000 K and 4?–?11 km?s ?1. We also found that the temperature varied much from point to point within one prominence. 相似文献

Spectral line profiles of Si ii and Si iii are presented which were observed both at solar center and near the quiet solar limb with the Naval Research Laboratory EUV spectrograph of ATM/SKYLAB. Absolute intensities and line profiles are derived from the photographic data. A brief discussion is given of their center-to-limb variations and of the optical thickness of the chromosphere in these lines. Nonthermal broadening velocities are found for the optically thin lines from their full width at half maximum intensity (FWHM).Also at High Altitude Observatory for part of this work.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. 相似文献

The observation of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission lines of Fe ix through Fe xvi made by Orbiting Solar Observatory-1 are discussed and applied to a study of the solar corona above active regions. Ultraviolet and radio emission are determined and compared for several levels of activity classified according to the type of sunspot group associated with the active region. Both radio emission and line radiation from Fe xvi, the highest stage of ionization of Fe observed, are observed to increase rapidly with the onset of activity and are most intense over an E-spot group early in the lifetime of the active region. As activity diminishes, radiation from Fe xv and Fe xvi becomes relatively more prominent. The observations imply that the coronal temperature reaches a maximum during the period of highest activity, as indicated by sunspot-group complexity and the occurrence of chromospheric flares. A maximum coronal electron temperature of 4.0 × 10 6 °K is estimated when taking into account the mechanism of dielectronic recombination. Concurrently, the average coronal electron density increases by a factor of 10–12. Both electron temperature and density decrease as activity subsides. The coronal temperature above the remaining Ca ii plage is estimated to be 2.5–3.0 × 10 6 °K after flare activity has ceased and sunspots have disappeared. 相似文献

Images of a flare and active regions were obtained in the extreme ultraviolet emission lines such as CIII 977 Å, Ne VIII 770 Å, and HI L , and hydrogen Lyman continua with a spatial resolution of less than ten seconds of arc together with one-dimensional scanning at 1650 Å. A microchannel plate was used as a detector, and pointing accuracy was, for about half of the observation time, around 0.5 arc sec.The relationship between the shape of the flare and the structure of the photospheric magnetic field is discussed. A map of the electron temperature distribution derived from the intensity ratio of the Lyman continua at 880 Å and 815 Å showed a lower temperature in regions of higher activity. A very small geometrical thickness of 50–500 m in the C III emitting region of the flare was found. And the layer emitting the continuum in 1650 Å is shown to be at a temperature of 5300 K in the flare and 4700 K in active regions. 相似文献

Photoionization models are developed for homogeneous, stationary and optically-thin gas exposed to an ionizing UV flux. Multiple Auger effect and charge transfer reactions are included. All ions of heavy elements up to iron are considered. An application of these models to forbidden emission line region in some Seyfert galaxy nuclei and in a narrow-line radio galaxy indicates depletion of iron in such nuclei whereas in some cases, lighter metals are overabundant compared with cosmic values. 相似文献
