通过对河北地质大学地球科学博物馆和山西大同博物馆收藏的4具杨氏天镇龙(甲龙类)骨架化石的研究,主要根据其头颅和尾锤的形态特征,认为杨氏天镇龙存在明显的性双形现象。雄性个体的鳞骨角粗大,向后上方两侧突伸;尾锤呈亚圆形,大而扁平。雌性个体的鳞骨角细小、低矮,向后侧方向突伸;尾锤呈亚圆形,小而扁平,表面具核桃纹纹饰。对甲龙类性双形现象的探讨为恐龙的研究提出了一种新的思路,可避免分类时出现同物异名的现象。  相似文献

Northern pipefish,Syngnathus fuscus, and dusky pipefish,Syngnathus floridae, are among the most abundant ichthyofauna components of the Chesapeake Bay, USA, eelgrass beds,Zostera marina, but population structure and many life history traits remain uncharacterized. We conducted monthly collections from May through September 2003–2005 in Chincoteague Bay, Virginia, to investigate seasonal migration and spawning, sex ratios, size at maturity, sexual dimorphism in length, and growth rates. BothS. fuscus andS. floridae spawned from May through September. Water temperature was significantly correlated withS. fuscus catches, whereasS. floridae abundance peaked after maximum water temperatures. Sex ratio data indicatedS. floridae populations are balanced, whileS. fuscus populations are strongly female-biased. Both species can quickly reach reproductive maturity, potentially within one season, becauseS. fuscus andS. floridae population growth rates average 1.0 mm d−1 and minimum standard length at maturity measures 125 and 103 mm, respectively, for females and 99 and 91 mm, respectively, for males. ForS. fuscus, females were significantly longer than conspecific males during time periods when juveniles were not rapidly maturing. Size sexual dimorphism in this species coincides with reports of extensive paternal care and supports the hypothesis that the strength of sexual selection differs in these species.  相似文献

The author discusses dimorphism in Egorovella and his new genus Egorovellina. A new term, "marginal dimorphism," is proposed for dimorphism involving a broadening of the marginal surface, as contrasted with "velar" and "histial" dimorphism which refer to modifications of various types of carinal structures. The author suggests that this type of dimorphism may indicate that the males and females lived in different biotopes. Field studies were conducted in Westport, Connecticut, to determine linear shell growth rates forGeukensia demissa. These rates were then compared with those reported for the same species from other locations. Most shell deposition occurred from March through November of each year. Winter interruptions in growth were clearly recognized in all size mussels and the rings were a reliable method for determining age in mussels from Westport. No significant sexual dimorphism in mean annual growth rates was detected. Age-size relationships based on internal shell lines appear to be less reliable, probably because of the interference by shell erosion at the umbo in this species. No well-defined latitudinal patterns in growth could be established forGeukensia demissa.  相似文献

This article presents new data on the Late Pleistocene giant deer, Megaloceros giganteus (Blumenbach), describing its distribution in time and space, geographical and sexual variation and general biology. Twenty‐three south Scandinavian fossils found in situ in lacustrine sediments or redeposited in glaciofluvial material form the basis of this investigation. Fourteen C dates show that the giant deer inhabited southern Scandinavia in the ice‐free late Middle Weichselian from c. 40000 to 28000 BP (the Sandnes Interstadial) and again in the Late Weichselian from c. 12000 to 10700 BP (Older Dryas, Allerød and early Younger Dryas Chronozones), corresponding to a calibrated range from c. 14300 to 12400 cal. yr BP. Osteometric analyses show that the Scandinavian giant deer belonged to the upper size range of the lateglacial Irish population and that a marked sexual dimorphism existed, the males being 10–11% larger than the females. Investigations furthermore point at an antler cycle similar to that among extant northern cervids, and subsequently at a rutting season in autumn. The skeletal remains also prove the occurrence of twin delivery and the possibility of reaching an ontogenetic age of at least 23 years. During both occurrences the Scandinavian giant deer population was part of the northernmost distribution of the species in Europe and the palaeogeographical settings and palaeoenvironmental conditions of the two periods show striking similarities. Clearly, the giant deer were able to colonize and survive in a landscape dominated by grasses and sedges with scattered shrubs and dwarf shrubs. They came as close as 200–250 km to the ice front and their distribution included coastal areas along a cold sea with drifting icebergs. They were present in the area at least from March until November. However, the pure arctic conditions created during the early phase of the Younger Dryas event led to a new local extinction around 10700 14C yr BP. This was the beginning of a total Eurasian extinction which, at least in Europe, was completed before the Pleistocene/Holocene transition.  相似文献

One new osmylid genus and species, Burmaleon magnificus, and one new nymphid genus and species Rafaelnymphes cratoensis are described, respectively based on inclusions in the Cretaceous Burmese amber and on a compression fossil from the Crato Formation in Brazil. The nymphid Araripenymphes seldeni, from the Crato Formation, is redescribed on the basis of a new specimen, showing possible sexual dimorphism in wing coloration, a feature extremely rare among the Neuroptera. In a recently published phylogenetic analysis of the family, the attribution to the fossil taxa (versus rejection) of the larval characters proper to the modern nymphids, has a crucial impact on the resolution of the phylogeny. The compression fossils currently attributed to the Nymphidae should be revised because their wing venation alone is not really sufficient for an accurate family attribution to Nymphidae rather than to another family of Neuroptera (viz. This work provides the first detailed taxonomic study of ostracod species from the Shenjiatun section (Nenjiang Formation, Songliao Basin, northeast China). Ten species belonging to seven genera are recognized. At the species level, this ostracod fauna shows a high degree of endemicity. The ontogeny of two species is recognized in this study, and sexual dimorphism within Daqingella arca is unequivocally recognized for the first time. The ostracod fauna suggests that this fossil-bearing sedimentary succession should be assigned to members 3–4 (Campanian) of the Nenjiang Formation (mainly Member 3) instead of representing ‘Quaternary sediments’ as previously thought. On the basis of the ostracod fauna, Member 3 of the Nenjiang Formation at Shenjiatun represents a shallow-littoral, lacustrine depositional environment that, at least in the upper part of Member 3, potentially included less stable conditions characterized by smaller, ephemeral waterbodies and increased (non-marine, oligohaline) salinities through evaporation.  相似文献

行蜕壳式增长的节肢动物个体发育及性双形特征的研究必须建立在其化石种群结构的恢复之上。简单的数理统计是揭示其种群结构特征的钥匙:鉴别是否属正常化石种群,确定蜕壳期数,解释早期幼壳高死亡率与其化石低保存牢的统一。高肌虫个体发育常表现为六至七期明显的蜕壳阶段,蜕壳期间壳体增长率常在性成熟期有显著的减小趋势。物种的正确鉴定及性双形特征的辨识也只有通过个体发育研究才能得到合理的解决;物种在个体发育过程中表现出来的性伏变化,为研究谱系的演化趋向提供重要依据。这种数理统计方法无疑对三叶虫、介形虫等其他节肢动物的个体发育及性双形研究也完全适用。  相似文献

A new genus and species of extinct rove beetle, Procileoporus burmiticus gen. and sp. n., is described from Upper Cretaceous Burmese amber (Cenomanian; ca. 99 Ma). Due to the condition of the fossil, parts of the body could not be examined, but sufficient characteristics were visible to allow the specimen to be placed within the subfamily Tachyporinae (tribe Tachyporini). Procileoporus is most similar to the extant genus Cileoporus Campbell in having a slender abdomen, but it differs in having much shorter abdominal setae, prominent striated microreticulation on the elytra, non-lobed tergite VIII, and in other details of the male genital segments. This is the first tachyporine rove beetle from Burmese amber and the oldest record of the subfamily in amber. The evolution of sexual dimorphism in the genital segments is briefly discussed.  相似文献

The bivalved arthropod Branchiocaris? yunnanensis Hou, 1987 is redescribed on the basis of new fossil material from the early Cambrian Chengjiang biota, South China. In total, 81 specimens have been examined. The carapace comprises two identical valves, each valve are sub-circular in outline, ranging from 24 mm to 58 mm in length, and from 15 mm to 46 mm in height. The dorsal margin is straight and bears two short cardinal spines. The valve surface is either smooth or ornamented with polygonal reticular structures, which may result from different preservation conditions. Two morphotypes have been recognized based on the presence or absence of a subdorsal swelling of the valve, which is convex dorsolaterally and extends beyond the dorsal margin when it appears. Statistic and ontogenetic analyses show both morphotypes grow isometrically and have the same growth trajectory. Therefore, the two morphotypes are interpreted as dimorphism within the same species. Our results are helpful for investigating the taxonomy and ontogeny of arthropod fossils and suggest that dimorphism might be fairly common in these early arthropods.  相似文献

The Upper Cretaceous Bagh Beds yield many biota of which ammonoids are particularly well known. Previously Bagh ammonoids were grouped into many genera and species within several families. The present study, however, shows that failure to recognize dimorphism and a wide range of interspecific variation within the single genus Placenticeras perhaps results in taxonomic oversplitting. The revision of the Middle and early Late Triassic conodonts in the Nogami (1968) collection from the NW Malaya Kodiang Limestone Formation provides clues to the multi-element reconstruction of Triassic Gondolellacea. Septi- to octomembrate multi-elements characterize the families Gondolellidae and Gladigondolellidae nov. fam. The distribution of cratognathodiform and ozarkodiniform P2 elements supports the hypothesis of sexual dimorphism in Gladigondolella rather than that of two genera. Pseudofurnishius murcianus confers a Southern Tethyan low latitude character to the Kodiang Limestone, a part of the Cimmerian string of terranes that in Triassic times formed a diagonal partition between the gradually closing Paleo-Tethys and the accordingly widening Neo-Tethys. Our findings suggest that such a realm stretched from the Southern Alps (Dinarids) in the West to Malaya (Shan Thai Terrane) in the East. Only the Eastern edge collided with Eurasia in the Late Triassic, forming the platform of Sundaland. Consequently, the Paleo-Tethys closure remained limited to SE Asia, while a substantial Paleo-Tethys still existed in Western direction, ending up in the Pindos and Vardar oceans. The Jurassic Neo-Tethys ocean extended south of the consolidated SE Asia block and Cimmerian string of terranes.  相似文献

Mesomegaloprepus magnificus gen. et sp. nov. (Odonata: Zygoptera) is described from more than 14 specimens in eight pieces of mid-Cretaceous (earliest Cenomanian, ca. 99 Ma) amber from Myanmar. Possible phylogenetic affinities with the Neotropical Latibasaliidae, Thaumatoneuridae, and Pseudostigmatinae are discussed, and a relationship with Pseudostigmatinae considered as possible, but because of conflicting evidence separate family status as Mesomegaloprepidae fam. nov. is tentatively preferred. The remarkable degree of homoplastic conflict in the wing venational similarities indicates that these represent relatively weak evidence for phylogenetic relationships. The palaeoecology, including sexual dimorphism in wing colouration, of the new taxon is discussed, and the large number of inclusions explained with possible breeding behaviour in association with water-filled tree holes (phytotelmata) of the amber tree, similar to extant Pseudostigmatinae. The position of all alleged fossil Thaumatoneuridae are discussed and revised: Eothaumatoneura ptychoptera Pongracz, 1935 from the Eocene Geiseltal locality is restored in Thaumatoneuridae. Cretaceous Euarchistigma and Paleogene Eodysagrion are tentatively retained as subfamilies Euarchistigmatinae and Eodysagrioninae in Thaumatoneuridae. Paleogene Dysagrioninae and Petrolestinae are removed from Thaumatoneuridae and attributed to a restored family Dysagrionidae, and Paleocene Latibasaliidae is transferred from Amphipterygoidea to Epallagoidea.  相似文献

New morphologic information permits systematic revision of trilobites from the Middle Ordovician Klimoli Formation of the Zhuozishan area, Ordos Basin, Inner Mongolia. The new assemblage is composed of 10 species of the Raphiophoridae, Nileidae, Asaphidae, and Telephinidae.? An asaphid, aff. Mioptychopyge lashachungensis (previously Paraptychopyge lashachungensis) displays an intermediate morphology between the Chinese nobiliasaphine genera Mioptychopyge and Zhenganites. The pygidial doublure is regarded as the most significant character to differentiate Symphysurus klimoliensis (previously Nileus klimoliensis) of the Nileidae from such closely allied taxa as Poronileus. A nileid, cf. Peraspis kujandensis displays typical nileid morphology, unlike the type species, Peraspis lineolata, which might turn out to be an asaphid. Ampyx gongwusuensis sp. nov. of the Raphiophoridae is the first record of the genus in the Zhuozishan area and reveals morphologic details that might be employed to resolve Ampyx taxonomy in China. Morphologic differences between A. gongwusuensis and Abulbaspis ordosensis might represent a case of sexual dimorphism.  相似文献

An aetosaur discovery in Krasiejów (SW Poland), in Late Triassic deposits, was first described by Sulej in 2010 as a new species carrying the name Stagonolepis olenkae. However, new fossil material suggests that its taxonomical position is not as clear as was initially presumed. In the new material from the ‘Triassic’ site of Krasiejów, the typical features of Stagonolepis robertsoni, described by Walker in 1961 from the Elgin area of Scotland, were identified (i.e. frontal/prefrontal width ratio), as well as features of S. olenkae (i.e. angle between ventral edge of the maxilla and ventral edge of the antorbital fenestra). However, distinct features from both species, such as the shape of the canal at the dorsal surface of the frontal, are present. Some of the variation is similar to sexual dimorphism observed in recent amphibians and reptiles. These variations, as well as the fact that the postcranial skeleton was previously described as S. robertsoni by Lucas and co‐workers in 2007, suggest that the taxonomical affiliation of the Krasiejów aetosaur (and/or the number of aetosaur species) should be re‐considered. The Bathonian ammonite assemblages have been previously poorly recorded in Kutch. The present study has unearthed a rich array of ammonite taxa ranging from the Middle to Upper Bathonian. While Oxycerites Rollier (1909) is a new record from Kutch, the oldest occurrence of Choffatia Siemiradzki (1898) has been found from the Middle Bathonian horizon. Oxycerites cf. orbis (Giebel) is a zonal index of the Late Bathonian in other areas and thus facilitates interprovincial correlation. Besides, palaeobiogeographic and stratigraphic distribution of many species have been modified based on new information. For example, macrocephalitin species, i.e., Kamptokephalites cf. etheridgei Spath (1928), Macrocephalites bifurcatus transient intermedius Spath (1928), M. cf. mantataranus Boehm (1912) were previously known from West Pacific, Indonesia have been now found in Kutch. Gracilisphinctes Buckman (1920) has been previously known to occur during the Middle Bathonian time, the present work extends its stratigraphic distribution up to the definite Upper Bathonian horizon. Procerites hians (Waagen) an endemic species in Kutch previously known from the Upper Bathonian beds, its stratigraphic range has been extended down to the Middle Bathonian.Detail taxonomy of the newly obtained taxa has been done and in many cases sexual dimorphism has been recognized.  相似文献

Species of the ammonite genus Metoicoceras are not generally strongly differentiated with respect to coiling and ornament. The present study addresses the problem of how well purely visual (subjective) identification succeeds in identifying taxonomically and hence evolutionarily relevant differences between forms. Multivariate statistical analysis, based on coiling, standard dimensions of the conch and ornamental properties, indicates that quantitative procedures reproduce traditional methods to a conspicuous degree, with the added advantage of objective repeatability. Additionally, uncertain phylogenetic relationships could be resolved by appropriate methods of multivariate statistical analysis and possible new information on dimorphism in the conch was obtained.  相似文献
