The results of studying physicochemical properties of bottom sediments in the Kuibyshev Reservoir are given. The evaluated characteristics include their porosity, specific surface area and density, and chemical state characteristics (pH, oil products, organic matter, phenols, and the mobile and total forms of heavy metals). Technogenic geochemical anomalies of bottom sediments are evaluated. The obtained results characterize the environmental state of bottom sediments in the study area.  相似文献

Specific features of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) distributions in bottom sediments, benthos, and fish of the Sheksninskii Pool of the Rybinsk Reservoir are discussed. It is shown that 95% of the total PCB is accumulated in bottom sediments. Mapping of PCB-polluted bottom sediments with allowance for the sediment type and bed relief is proposed. The obtained data along with coefficients of accumulation in the bottom sediments–benthos–fish chain were used to evaluate the maximum concentration of PCB in bottom sediments at which the environmental risk of fish metabolism disturbance will be minimum. It is shown that once the PCB discharge into the water body is completely eliminated, their presence in the system will still be an ecological hazard for 25–30 years.  相似文献

Granulometric analysis was carried out for bottom sediment of the Northern Caspian Sea sampled in 2001. The results of analysis were used to map the spatial distribution of different types of bottom sediments and evaluate their areas. To identify the changes that have taken place in the granulometric composition and spatial distribution of bottom sediments in a transgression period, the obtained materials were compared with data of the previous survey. The main factors of sediments dynamics are shown to be higher continental runoff and sea transgression.  相似文献

Since the new outfall for Boston's treated sewage effluent began operation on September 6, 2000, no change has been observed in concentrations of silver or Clostridium perfringens spores (an ecologically benign tracer of sewage), in bottom sediments at a site 2.5 km west of the outfall. In suspended sediment samples collected with a time-series sediment trap located 1.3 km south of the outfall, silver and C. perfringens spores increased by 38% and 103%, respectively, in post-outfall samples while chromium, copper, and zinc showed no change. All metal concentrations in sediments are <50% of warning levels established by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. An 11-year data set of bottom sediment characteristics collected three times per year prior to outfall startup provides perspective for the interpretation of post-outfall data. A greater than twofold increase in concentrations of sewage tracers (silver and C. perfringens) was observed in muddy sediments following the exceptional storm of December 11-16, 1992 that presumably moved contaminated inshore sediment offshore.  相似文献

The formation conditions of water exchange and quality in a lake used as a part of water disposal system of an operating copper-nickel metallurgical plant are considered. Water and material budget of the lake is calculated, including process water discharge, atmospheric precipitation, and snow melting. The quantitative and qualitative characteristics of bottom sediments and waters involved in lake water exchange are determined. The migration conditions of heavy metals from bottom sediments are evaluated and their dynamic layers are determined. Some measures are proposed for reducing the adverse impact of the coppernickel plant on water bodies.  相似文献

The results of first application of automated bottom station for studying chemical exchange across the water-bed interface (IO RAS lander) were obtained for the case of sediments in the northwestern Black Sea near Gelendzhik (Golubaya Bay). The lander is equipped with bottom chambers, sensors of environmental characteristics, and samplers, allowing fluxes of chemical elements through the water-bed interface to be determined directly. Bottom sediments were represented by organogenous silts containing hydrogen sulfide. The high activity of diagenetic processes resulted in a higher consumption of O2 by sediments (the flux from the bottom water was 130 mM/(m2/day), high fluxes of biogenic elements (P, Si,) and metals (Mn, Fe). At the same time, fluxes across the water-bed interface were evaluated based on the difference between concentrations of these elements in the near-bed and silt water (Fick’s law). The obtained data demonstrate the priority of direct measurements of fluxes (lander) over the calculation method. The first application of the lander suggests the need for methodological improvements both of engineering character and in chemical-analytical support.  相似文献

Simulations of both currents and waves were performed throughout the year 2001 to assess the relative contribution of each to their overall erosive potential on the Gulf of Lions shelf. Statistical analysis of bottom shear stress (BSS) was compared to sediment grain-size distribution on the bottom. The hydrodynamic features of the bottom layer coincide with the distribution of surficial sediments, and three areas with different hydro-sedimentary characteristics were revealed. (i) The sandy inner shelf (<30 m) area is a high-energy-wave dominated area but may be subjected to intense current-induced BSS during on-shore winds along the coast and during continental winds mainly in the up-welling cells. (ii) The middle shelf (30–100 m) is a low-energy environment characterised by deposition of cohesive sediments, where the wave effect decreases with depth and current-induced BSS cannot reach the critical value for erosion of fine-grained sediments. (iii) The outer shelf, which has a higher bottom sand fraction than the middle shelf, may be affected by strong south-westward currents generated by on-shore winds, which can have an erosive effect on the fine-grained sediments.  相似文献

The paper presents data on the concentrations of persistent organic pollutants in bottom sediments of subarctic lakes on Vaygach Isl. and in the Polar Cis-Urals in the Northern European Russia. Dioxin pollution is estimated at the background level, and the recorded levels of hexachlorobenzene fall within the concentration range identified in the bottom sediments of small lakes in the southwestern Arkhangelsk region. The specific character of the congener profile of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans in bottom sediments is demonstrated, suggesting a relationship between the pollution that forms under the effect of atmospheric transport of persistent organic pollutants from low latitudes in the past and present and the application of dioxin-containing organochlorine chemicals in timber industry.  相似文献

An analysis of the paleomagnetic characteristics of the bottom sediments taken in 2000 in the northern Barents Sea for the first time revealed the Gothenburg geomagnetic field excursion (13 000–12 000 years ago) at the time boundary of the transition from the glacial period to the recent warm epoch (the Holocene). The obtained data confirm the excursion complex structure: the presence of two successive time intervals of variations in the geomagnetic field inclination. An increase in the magnetic susceptibility and natural remanent magnetization of the samples at the above boundary and about 15 000 years ago indicates that the magnetic parameters of the sediments respond to climate changes in the environment in this time interval.  相似文献

The situation in the Kondopozhskaya Bay of Onega Lake, polluted by wastewater of a pulp-and-paper mill is considered. The dynamics of wastewater input over 80 years is analyzed; the rate of such input varied widely in this period because of changes in cellulose production processes. A close correlation was found to exist between the characteristics of the state of aquatic organism communities and the environmental physicochemical characteristics. The pollution indices of water mass and the bed are evaluated, including biological and physicochemical data. Those indices can be used to identify polluted zones of water and bottom sediments in Onega Lake subject to the discharge of wastewaters from pulp-and-paper mill.  相似文献

Concentrations of heavy metals in the bottom sediments of the Ivan'kovo Reservoir bays are analyzed. The role of higher aquatic plants in the processes of heavy metals accumulation and transformation in bottom sediments is studied. Uneven distribution of microelements in the bottom sediments is found to be typical of the bays, which is related to the character of heavy metals input in the bays and to processes occurring inside the bays themselves.  相似文献

Earlier data on heavy metal concentrations in bottom sediments of the Novosibirsk Reservoir are supplemented by new geochemical characteristics of fine silt sediment in the near-dam part of the reservoir with the list of chemical elements extended to 55. After the beginning of the Ob’s runoff regulation by HPP dam, a new geochemical type of sediment started forming in the new reservoir. This type of sediment features higher concentrations of chemical elements (including heavy metals), reaching the values typical of Baikal silt recorded in the central hollow of the lake.  相似文献

The role of fine sediments of technogenic origin in channel process is analyzed. The specific features of sedimentation of particles with different density and shape and the issues of flocculation and consolidation of sediments in the bottom part of flow are discussed. Experimental data on the adhesion of particles are given and a relationship for its assessment is proposed. The class of sediments for which the adhesion determines the critical erosion velocity is determined. The processes of river water self-purification and precipitation of fine sediments were compared to show that sedimentation processes play an important role in river water self-purification.  相似文献

The effect of anthropogenic pollution on the structure of benthic animal communities in the Barnaulka R. (Ob tributary) has been studied. Statistical analysis was used to assess the effect of habitat factors on macrozoobenthos structure. The structure characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrate communities and the bioindication indices calculated from them are shown to depend on the hydrophysical and hydrochemical characteristics of water and bottom sediments.  相似文献

Data on the bottom sediment thickness, the rates of accumulation, and the concentrations of organic substances, metals, petroleum products, and organic pollutants are presented.
