An investigation of a family of isothermal magneto-static atmospheres with one ignorable coordinate corresponding to a uniform gravitational field in a plane geometry is carried out. The distributed current in the model J is directed along the x-axis where x is the horizontal ignorable coordinate. The current J is taken proportional to the square of the magneto-static potential A and falls off exponentially with distance vertical to the base with an e-folding distance equal to the gravitational scale height. A range of solution examples are displayed depending on the four free parameters in the solutions. Three of these parameters determine the source currents for the potential field solution of the family, whereas the fourth parameter determines the magnitude of the distributed current. The solutions illustrate the contribution of the anisotropic J × B force (B, magnetic field induction), the gravitational force, and gas pressure gradient to the force balance.  相似文献

The equations of magnetohydrostatic equilibria for a plasma in a gravitational field are investigated analytically. For equilibria with one ignorable spatial coordinate, the equations reduce to a single nonlinear elliptic equation for the magnetic potential A. Similarity solutions of the elliptic equation are obtained for the case of an isothermal atmosphere in a uniform gravitational field. The solutions are obtained from a consideration of the invariance group of the elliptic equation. The importance of symmetries of the elliptic equation also appears in the determination of conservation laws. It turns out that the elliptic equation can be written as a variational principle, and the symmetries of the variational functional lead (via Noether's theorem) to conservation laws for the equation. As an example of the application of the similarity solutions, we construct a model magnetostatic atmosphere in which the current density J is proportional to the cube of the magnetic potential, and falls off exponentially with distance vertical to the base, with an e-folding distance equal to the gravitational scale height. The solutions show the interplay between the gravitational force, the J × B force (B, magnetic field induction) and the gas pressure gradient.  相似文献

The componentsj andj of the current densityj are expressed in terms of the torsion and curvature of the magnetic lines of force and a relation between and equivalent to divj=0, is pointed out.Assuming that the magnetotail neutral line is not a straight line parallel to the (solar magnetospheric)y-coordinate and that loops of closed fieldlines may be formed in the distant magnetotail, we discuss the topological features of the corresponding current system. We find that the perpendicular current is diverted into the direction ofB and that enhancements and depletions ofj along the Sun-Earth line are generated. Arguments usual in current diversion analyses imply a possibility of disintegration of the magnetotail. It is ponted out that the simply connected surfaces containing both vectors,j andB, are unlikely to exist in the magnetotail. The concept of current sheets containing the vector lines ofB is mathematically, and consequently also physically, not feasible.  相似文献

It is shown that, at neutral points of force-free magnetic fields, the electric current density must vanish. This property is independent of whether the neutral points are isolated or (e.g.) fill lines or surfaces. One implication is the fact that in a cold pressureless plasma the formation of neutral current sheets cannot be adiabatically slow. The field-line topology in the neighbourhood of neutral points is discussed. At neutral points of force-free magnetic fields in general three constant- surfaces, defined by the equation ×B=B, with the same value of intersect orthogonally. If, during a time-development, the magnetic field gradient matrix B i/x j becomes singular at a neutral point, the field topology can change qualitatively — in general connected with the merger of two or more neutral points into one and/or the splitting up of one neutral point into several others. This can be interpreted as implying the transition from a quasi-static evolution to a dynamical state in which magnetic energy is released.  相似文献

We derive an analytical approximation of nonlinear force-free magnetic field solutions (NLFFF) that can efficiently be used for fast forward-fitting to solar magnetic data, constrained either by observed line-of-sight magnetograms and stereoscopically triangulated coronal loops, or by 3D vector-magnetograph data. The derived NLFFF solutions provide the magnetic field components B x (x), B y (x), B z (x), the force-free parameter α(x), the electric current density j(x), and are accurate to second-order (of the nonlinear force-free α-parameter). The explicit expressions of a force-free field can easily be applied to modeling or forward-fitting of many coronal phenomena.  相似文献

Current sheet (CS) creation and energy accumulation above the NOAA 9077 active region have been numerically simulated. The magnetic spots are approximated by vertical dipoles placed under the photosphere, and the system of resistive 3D MHD equations is solved for compressible plasma with anisotropic thermal conduction. Two neutral magnetic lines are present in the corona above the NOAA 9077 active region, and a vertical CS emerges in the vicinity of one of them. The energy accumulated in this CS is about 5×1032 erg. The j×B/c force in it accelerates plasma upward. The other neutral line is not suitable for CS creation.  相似文献

The minimum dissipative rate (MDR) method for deriving a coronal non-force-free magnetic field solution is partially evaluated. These magnetic field solutions employ a combination of three linear (constant-α) force-free-field solutions with one being a potential field (i.e., α=0). The particular case of the solutions where the other two α’s are of equal magnitude but of opposite sign is examined. This is motivated by studying the SOLIS (Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigation of the Sun (SOLIS), a National Solar Observatory facility) vector magnetograms of AR 10987, which show a global α value consistent with an α=0 value as evaluated by (×B) z /B z over the region. Typical of the current state of the observing technology, there is no definitive twist for input into the general MDR method. This suggests that the special α case, of two α’s with equal magnitudes and opposite signs, is appropriate given the data. Only for an extensively twisted active region does a dominant, nonzero α normally emerge from a distribution of local values. For a special set of conditions, is it found that (i) the resulting magnetic field is a vertically inflated magnetic field resulting from the electric currents being parallel to the photosphere, similar to the results of Gary and Alexander (Solar Phys. 186:123, 1999), and (ii) for α≈(α max /2), the Lorentz force per unit volume normalized by the square of the magnetic field is on the order of 1.4×10−10 cm−1. The Lorentz force (F L) is a factor of ten higher than that of the magnetic force d(B 2/8π)/dz, a component of F L. The calculated photospheric electric current densities are an order of magnitude smaller than the maximum observed in all active regions. Hence both the Lorentz force density and the generated electric current density seem to be physically consistent with possible solar dynamics. The results imply that the field could be inflated with an overpressure along the neutral line. However, the implementation of this or any other extrapolation method using the electric current density as a lower boundary condition must be done cautiously, with the current magnetography.  相似文献

The equations of magnetohydrodynamic equilibria for a plasma in a gravitational field are investigated analytically. For equilibria with one ignorable spatial coordinate, the equations reduce to a single nonlinear elliptic equation for the magnetic potential , known as the Grad–Shafranov equation. Specifying the arbitrary functions in the latter equation, one gets a nonlinear elliptic equation. Analytical solutions of the elliptic equation are obtained for the case of a nonlinear isothermal atmosphere in a uniform gravitational field. The solutions are obtained by using the Painlevé analysis, and are adequate for describing parallel filaments of diffuse, magnetized plasma suspended horizontally in equilibrium in a uniform gravitational field.  相似文献

Using the Galaxy as an example, we study the effect of [(j)\vec] ×[(B)\vec]\vec{j} \times \vec{B} force on the rotational curves of gas and plasma in galaxies. Acceptable model for the galactic magnetic field and plausible physical parameters are used to fit the flat rotational curve for gas and plasma based on the observed baryonic (visible) matter distribution and [(j)\vec] ×[(B)\vec]\vec{j} \times\vec{B} force term in the static MHD equation of motion. We also study the effects of varied strength of the magnetic field, its pitch angle and length scale on the rotational curves. We show that [(j)\vec] ×[(B)\vec]\vec{j} \times\vec{B} force does not play an important role on the plasma dynamics in the intermediate range of distances 6–12 kpc from the centre, whilst the effect is sizable for larger r (r≥15 kpc), where it is the most crucial.  相似文献

It is well known that the parallel cuts of the parallel and perpendicular electric field in electron phase-space holes (electron holes) have bipolar and unipolar structures, respectively. Recently, electron holes in the Earth’s plasma sheet have been observed by THEMIS satellites to have detectable fluctuating magnetic field with regular structures. Du et al. (2011) investigated the evolution of a one-dimensional (1D) electron hole with two-dimensional (2D) electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations in weakly magnetized plasma (Ω e <ω pe , where Ω e and ω pe are the electron gyrofrequency and electron plasma frequency, respectively), which initially exists in the simulation domain. The electron hole is unstable to the transverse instability and broken into several 2D electron holes. They successfully explained the observations by THEMIS satellites based on the generated magnetic structures associated with these 2D electron holes. In this paper, 2D electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations are performed in the xy plane to investigate the nonlinear evolution of the electron two-stream instability in weakly magnetized plasma, where the background magnetic field (B0 = B0[(e)\vec] x)(\mathbf{B}_{0} =B_{0}\vec{\mathbf{e}} _{x}) is along the x direction. Several 2D electron holes are formed during the nonlinear evolution, where the parallel cuts of E x and E y have bipolar and unipolar structures, respectively. Consistent with the results of Du et al. (2011), we found that the current along the z direction is generated by the electric field drift motion of the trapped electrons in the electron holes due to the existence of E y , which produces the fluctuating magnetic field δB x and δB y in the electron holes. The parallel cuts of δB x and δB y in the electron holes have unipolar and bipolar structures, respectively.  相似文献

Using a perturbated (noised) dipole model of a sunspot magnetic field structure we simulated the influence of background noise or apparent noise (unresolved small-scale magnetic field structure) on sunspot magnetic field parameters. We evaluated mean values of the vertical and horizontal electric current densities |j| and |j|, respectively, of the force-free parameter α and of the Lorentz force |F|. For comparison we estimated |j| and |F| of a standard sunspot magnetic field model (return-flux model, OSHEROVICH 1982). Furthermore, we compared our results with those from observations resulting in estimated values of |j| for quiet sunspots. Our investigation led to the following results: the estimated values of 〈|F|〉 show clearly that due to the noise the axisymmetric magnetic dipole model is clustered into several subsystems of fluxbundles. The latter are connected with a system of electric current densities of the order of |j| ∼ 10−3 Am−2 and |j| = 10−1 Am−2, i.e., this system is a noise-generated nonaxisymmetric magnetohydrostatic model.  相似文献

For both even and odd-numbered solar cycles, right-hand heliform filaments predominate at middle and high latitudes in the northern hemisphere while left-handed ones predominate in the south. This recent discovery has prompted a re-examination of past measurements of magnetic fields in prominences. This re-examination indicates that Rust (1967), in his interpretation of solar cycle 20 measurements in terms of the Kippenhahn-Schlüter model, and Leroy, Bommier, and Sahal-Bréchot (1984), in their interpretation of solar cycle 21 measurements in terms of the Kuperus-Raadu model were both misled by the global pattern of helicity. While the original magnetic field measurements are consistent with the new results about heliform magnetic fields in filaments, neither of the well-known classes of two-dimensional models can produce both the proper axial field direction and the observed pattern of helicity. A global, subsurface velocity pattern that would twist the fields before emergence as filaments seems to be required. In this paper a twisted-flux-rope model consistent with the new understanding of filament fields is presented. The model is based on a constant- solution of the magnetostatic equations, where electric current densityj(r) = B(r). The model filament has dimensions in general agreement with observations. It is shown to be stable if the length is less than 140 000 km to 1,400 000 km, depending on the value of. The model also provides a new explanation of eruptive prominences and for the origin of the entrained material.  相似文献

In view of observations which show that a substorm often begins in a small local time sector, a model is assumed in which the neutral sheet current is diverted around a small region we call a bubble. The simplest assumption is that of a linear variation of current with distance from the centre of the bubble in the x-direction in a SM coordinate system, with the diverted current being channelled within narrow paths of width δy on the dawn and dusk sides of the bubble. This assumption leads to vector potential integrals that can be evaluated analytically. The addition of this current loop into the magnetotail results in a magnetic field structure where new neutral lines of X- and 0-type can be observed; these are connected to each other as a continuous neutral ring in the xy equatorial plane. The magnetic and electric field components around the neutral regions are calculated, and the time dependent evolution of the neutral ring is studied. Comparison with some published satellite observations shows good agreement. Taking typical values for the various quantities on the basis of actual observations within the magnetotail, we show that the induced electric field is at least comparable to the average cross-tail electrostatic field, and it may well be one or two orders of magnitude greater. The response of the plasma to the induction field is discussed qualitatively. It is concluded that field aligned currents may be produced due to inertial forces of the expanding disturbance. Interpretation of the ground based precipitation patterns of energized particles during auroral breakup is given.  相似文献

In two dimensions magnetic energy release takes place at locations where the magnetic field strength becomes zero and has an x-point topology. The x-point topology can collapse into two y-points connected by a current sheet when the advection of magnetic flux into the x-point is larger than the dissipation of magnetic flux at the x-point. In three dimensions magnetic fields may also contain singularities in the form of three-dimensional null points. Three-dimensional nulls are created in pairs and are therefore, at least in the initial stages, always connected by at least one field line – the separator. The separator line is defined by the intersection of the fan planes of the two nulls. In the plane perpendicular to a single separator the field line topology locally has a two dimensional x-point structure. Using a numerical approach we find that the collapse of the separator can be initiated at the two nulls by a velocity shear across the fan plane. It is found that for a current concentration to connect the two nulls along the separator, the current sheet can only obtain two different orientations relative to the field line structure of the nulls. The sheet has to have an orientation midway between the fan plane and the spine axis of each null. As part of this process the spine axes are found to lose their identity by transforming into an integrated part of the separator surfaces that divide space into four magnetically independent regions around the current sheet.  相似文献

It has been hypothesized that the sustained narrowness observed in the asymptotic cylindrical region of bipolar outflows from Young Stellar Objects (YSO) indicates that these jets are magnetically collimated. The j z × B ϕ force observed in z-pinch plasmas is a possible explanation for these observations. However, z-pinch plasmas are subject to current driven instabilities (CDI). The interest in using z-pinches for controlled nuclear fusion has lead to an extensive theory of the stability of magnetically confined plasmas. Analytical, numerical, and experimental evidence from this field suggest that sheared flow in magnetized plasmas can reduce the growth rates of the sausage and kink instabilities. Here we propose the hypothesis that sheared helical flow can exert a similar stabilizing influence on CDI in YSO jets.  相似文献

Equations governing the large-scale electrodynamic processes in the auroral ionosphere are systematically discussed and the limits to drawing conclusions from incomplete sets of equations are evaluated. The vectors of electic current density,j, and electric field,E, are expressed as explicit functions of the densities, pressures and velocities of the constituents of the ionosphere. The equation div (·E)=0 is an identity satisfied by any solution of the full set of equations governing the problem and cannot be treated as a differential equation forE in which the components of the conductivity tensor are given parameters. The concept of the height-integrated conductivities and the conclusions based on it are inconsistent with the equations of momentum balance for the ionospheric constituents. The global structure of the auroral ionosphere is determined by the state of equilibrium between the pressure gradients, the inertial forces and thej×B-force associated with the auronal electrojets flowing along the auroral oval. The time-averaged, global, electric field is directed across the auroral oval. Its value is substantially affected by the motions of neutral particles. The velocity vector of the neutrals has a substantial component directed across the oval.  相似文献

Knowledge regarding the coronal magnetic field is important for the understanding of many phenomena, like flares and coronal mass ejections. Because of the low plasma beta in the solar corona, the coronal magnetic field is often assumed to be force-free and we use photospheric vector magnetograph data to extrapolate the magnetic field into the corona with the help of a nonlinear force-free optimization code. Unfortunately, the measurements of the photospheric magnetic field contain inconsistencies and noise. In particular, the transversal components (say B x and B y) of current vector magnetographs have their uncertainties. Furthermore, the magnetic field in the photosphere is not necessarily force free and often not consistent with the assumption of a force-free field above the magnetogram. We develop a preprocessing procedure to drive the observed non–force-free data towards suitable boundary conditions for a force-free extrapolation. As a result, we get a data set which is as close as possible to the measured data and consistent with the force-free assumption.  相似文献

Current sheet (CS) creation in a region with anX-type zero magnetic field line in plasma was simulated by numerically solving the 3D MHD equations for conditions which were close to the solar corona: the disturbance propagated from the photosphere boundary under which the magnetic field sources were situated. Some of values (B,,V) were set on the photosphere boundary, while others were determined from the conditions inside the region. Several Alfvén times after its creation, the CS motion practically ceased, and the plasma velocity changed its direction above the sheet, so that the plasma flow was directed into the CS from both sides.  相似文献

It is proved that (1) electromagnetic fields with electric and magnetic components parallel to one another are solutions of Maxwell's equations; (2) the equationB(B)=0 (B is the magnetic field) is gauge and relativistically-invariant for systems of reference moving with velocityv/c=EB(1+v 2/c 2)/(E 2+B 2).  相似文献

Assigning to the equivalent gravitational parameter of a two-body dynamic system, a periodic change of a small amplitude B and arbitrary frequency and phase, the behaviour of an elliptic-type orbit is studied. The first order (in B) perturbations of the orbital elements are determined by using Delaunay's canonical variables. According to the value of the ratio between oscillation frequency and dynamic frequency, three cases (non-resonant (NR), quasi-resonant (QR), and resonant (R) ones) are pointed out. The solution of motion equations shows that only in the QR and R cases there are elements (argument of pericentre and mean anomaly) affected by secular perturbations. The solutions are valid over prediction times of order of pericentre and mean anomaly) affected by secular perturbations. The solutions are valid over prediction times of order B−1 in the NR case and B−1/2 in the QR and R cases.  相似文献
