We study the distribution of regular and irregular periodic orbits on a Poincaré surface of section of a simple Hamiltonian system of 2 degrees of freedom. We explain the appearance of many lines of periodic orbits that form Farey trees. There are also lines that are very close to the asymptotic curves of the unstable periodic orbits. Some regular orbits, sometimes stable, are found inside the homoclinic tangle. We explain this phenomenon, which shows that the homoclinic tangle does not cover the whole area around an unstable orbit, but has gaps. Inside the lobes only irregular orbits appear, and some of them are stable. We conjecture that the opposite is also true, i.e. all irregular orbits are inside lobes.  相似文献

We have calculated several families of classical periodic orbits in simple Hamiltonian systems of two degrees of freedom and the corresponding quantum mechanical eigenvalues and eigenfuctions. We have found that in most cases the eigenfunctions have their maxima and minima on some simple periodic orbits. These periodic orbits are of several resonant types and can be either stable or unstable. In the latter case the quantum Poincaré surfaces of section are very different from the classical Poincaré surfaces of section.  相似文献

We consider a system of a harmonic and an unharmonic oscillator with a weak cubic coupling. We study the non-degenerate bifurcations of periodic orbits for the resonant tori of the unperturbed system for which the twist condition holds. We demonstrate that this system also exhibits for certain values of the small parameter non-twist bifurcations, where the rotation number of the Poincaré map attains a minimum value.  相似文献

In this paper by means of a Poincaré map, we prove the existence of symmetric periodic orbits of the elliptic Sitnikov problem. Furthermore, using the presence of the Bernoulli shift as a subsystem of that Poincaré map, we prove that not all the periodic orbits of the Sitnikov problem are symmetric periodic orbits. This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

By using Birkhoff's regularizing transformation, we study the evolution of some of the infinite j-k type families of collision periodic orbits with respect to the mass ratio μ as well as their stability and dynamical structure, in the planar restricted three-body problem. The μ-C characteristic curves of these families extend to the left of the μ-C diagram, to smaller values of μ and most of them go downwards, although some of them end by spiralling around the constant point S* (μ=0.47549, C=3) of the Bozis diagram (1970). Thus we know now the continuation of the families which go through collision periodic orbits of the Sun-Jupiter and Earth-Moon systems. We found new μ-C and x-C characteristic curves. Along each μ-C characteristic curve changes of stability to instability and vice versa and successive very small stable and very large unstable segments appear. Thus we found different types of bifurcations of families of collision periodic orbits. We found cases of infinite period doubling Feigenbaum bifurcations as well as bifurcations of new families of symmetric and non-symmetric collision periodic orbits of the same period. In general, all the families of collision periodic orbits are strongly unstable. Also, we found new x-C characteristic curves of j-type classes of symmetric periodic orbits generated from collision periodic orbits, for some given values of μ. As C varies along the μ-C or the x-C spiral characteristics, which approach their focal-terminating-point, infinite loops, one inside the other, surrounding the triangular points L4 and L5 are formed in their orbits. So, each terminating point corresponds to a collision asymptotic symmetric periodic orbit for the case of the μ-C curve or a non-collision asymptotic symmetric periodic orbit for the case of the x-C curve, that spiral into the points L4 and L5, with infinite period. All these are changes in the topology of the phase space and so in the dynamical properties of the restricted three-body problem.  相似文献

We study two and three-dimensional resonant periodic orbits, usingthe model of the restricted three-body problem with the Sun andNeptune as primaries. The position and the stability character ofthe periodic orbits determine the structure of the phase space andthis will provide useful information on the stability and longterm evolution of trans-Neptunian objects. The circular planarmodel is used as the starting point. Families of periodic orbitsare computed at the exterior resonances 1/2, 2/3 and 3/4 withNeptune and these are used as a guide to select the energy levelsfor the computation of the Poincaré maps, so that all basicresonances are included in the study. Using the circular planarmodel as the basic model, we extend our study to more realisticmodels by considering an elliptic orbit of Neptune and introducingthe inclination of the orbit. Families of symmetric periodicorbits of the planar elliptic restricted three-body problem andthe three-dimensional problem are found. All these orbitsbifurcate from the families of periodic orbits of the planarcircular problem. The stability of all orbits is studied. Althoughthe resonant structure in the circular problem is similar for allresonances, the situation changes if the eccentricity of Neptuneor the inclination of the orbit is taken into account. All theseresults are combined to explain why in some resonances there aremany bodies and other resonances are empty.  相似文献

We investigate the escape regions of a quartic potential and the main types of irregular periodic orbits. Because of the symmetry of the model the zero velocity curve consists of four summetric arcs forming four open channels around the lines y = ± x through which an orbit can escape. Four unstable Lyapunov periodic orbits bridge these openings. We have found an infinite sequence of families of periodic orbits which is the outer boundary of one of the escape regions and several infinite sequences of periodic orbits inside this region that tend to homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits. Some of these sequences of periodic orbits tend to homoclinic orbits starting perpendicularly and ending asymptotically at the x-axis. The other sequences tend to heteroclinic orbits which intersect the x-axis perpendicularly for x > 0 and make infinite oscillations almost parallel to each of the two Lyapunov orbits which correspond to x > 0 or x < 0.  相似文献

We find the minimum recurrence time for the lobes of an unstable periodic orbit (i.e. the number of iterations required in order that an image of a given lobe intersects itself). This time is much shorter than the usual recurrence time derived by applying Poincaré's theorem. As the energy of the system increases the minimum recurrence time decreases. The minimum recurrence time can be found also when the energy exceeds the escape energy, in which case the usual Poincaré recurrence time is not defined.  相似文献

We study in great detail the geometry of the homoclinic tangle, with respect to the energy, corresponding to an unstable periodic orbit of type 1:2, on a surface of section representing a 2-D Hamiltonian system. The tangle consists of two resonance areas, in contrast with the tangles of type-l or -{l, m, k, x = 0} considered in previous studies, that consist of only one resonance area. We study the intersections of the inner and outer lobes of the same resonance area and of the two resonance areas. The intersections of the lobes follow certain rules. The detailed study of these rules allows us to derive quantitative relations about the number of intersections and to understand the complex behavior of the higher order lobes by studying the lower order lobes. We find 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. order intersections formed by lobes making 1, 2, 3, etc. turns around an island. After a sufficiently high order of iterations a lobe may intersect its image and thus produce a Poincaré recurrence. Numerical results for a wide interval of energies are presented. The number of intersections changes through tangencies. In any finite interval of the energy between two tangencies of 1st order, an infinite number of higher order tangencies occur and thus, according to the Newhouse theorem, there exist nearby islands of stability.  相似文献

Numerical simulations of the one-dimensional Newtonian four-body problem have been conducted for the special case in which the bodies are distributed symmetrically about the centre of mass. Simulations show a great similarity between this problem and the one-dimensional Newtonian three-body problem. As in that problem the orbits can be divided into three different categories which form well-defined regions on a Poincaré section: there is a region of quasiperiodic orbits about a Schubart-like periodic orbit, there is a region of fast-scattering encounters and in between these two regions there is a chaotic scattering region. The Schubart-like periodic orbit's stability to perturbation is studied. It is apparently stable in one-dimension but is unstable in three-dimensions.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We describe and comment the results of a numerical exploration on the evolution of the families of periodic orbits associated with homoclinic orbits emanating from the equilateral equilibria of the restricted three body problem for values of the mass ratio larger than μ 1. This exploration is, in some sense, a continuation of the work reported in Henrard [Celes. Mech. Dyn. Astr. 2002, 83, 291]. Indeed it shows how, for values of μ. larger than μ 1, the Trojan web described there is transformed into families of periodic orbits associated with homoclinic orbits. Also we describe how families of periodic orbits associated with homoclinic orbits can attach (or detach) themselves to (or from) the best known families of symmetric periodic orbits. We analyze nearly periodic solutions in the plane problem of three equal-mass bodies by numerically simulating the dynamics of triple systems. We identify families of orbits in which all three points are on one straight line (syzygy) at the initial time. In this case, at fixed total energy of a triple system, the set of initial conditions is a bounded region in four-dimensional parameter space. We scan this region and identify sets of trajectories in which the coordinates and velocities of all bodies are close to their initial values at certain times (which are approximately multiples of the period). We classify the nearly periodic orbits by the structure of trajectory loops over one period. We have found the families of orbits generated by von Schubart’s stable periodic orbit revealed in the rectilinear three-body problem. We have also found families of hierarchical, nearly periodic trajectories with prograde and retrograde motions. In the orbits with prograde motions, the trajectory loops of two close bodies form looplike structures. The trajectories with retrograde motions are characterized by leafed structures. Orbits with central and axial symmetries are identified among the families found.  相似文献

Periodic orbits in the Stormer problem are studied using the symmetry lines of the Poincaré map introduced by De Vogelaere. Many known facts are explained by mean of these lines. The dynamics of four special symmetry lines when the Stormer parameter 1 changes is presented, and we obtain a clear global view of the structure of the simple periodic orbits and their bifurcations, including the asymmetrical ones. New asymmetrical multiple periodic orbits are obtained.  相似文献

The accurate computation of families of periodic orbits is very important in the analysis of various celestial mechanics systems. The main difficulty for the computation of a family of periodic orbits of a given period is the determination within a given region of an individual member of this family which corresponds to a periodic orbit. To compute with certainty accurate individual members of a specific family we apply an efficient method using the Poincaré map on a surface of section of the considered problem. This method converges rapidly, within relatively large regions of the initial conditions. It is also independent of the local dynamics near periodic orbits which is especially useful in the case of conservative dynamical systems that possess many periodic orbits, often of the same period, close to each other in phase space. The only computable information required by this method is the signs of various function evaluations carried out during the integration of the equations of motion. This method can be applied to any system of celestial mechanics. In this contribution we apply it to the photogravitational problem.  相似文献

Many physical systems can be modeled as scattering problems. For example, the motions of stars escaping from a galaxy can be described using a potential with two or more escape routes. Each escape route is crossed by an unstable Lyapunov orbit. The region between the two Lyapunov orbits is where the particle interacts with the system. We study a simple dynamical system with escapes using a suitably selected surface of section. The surface of section is partitioned in different escape regions which are defined by the intersections of the asymptotic manifolds of the Lyapunov orbits with the surface of section. The asymptotic curves of the other unstable periodic orbits form spirals around various escape regions. These manifolds, together with the manifolds of the Lyapunov orbits, govern the transport between different parts of the phase space. We study in detail the form of the asymptotic manifolds of a central unstable periodic orbit, the form of the escape regions and the infinite spirals of the asymptotic manifolds around the escape regions. We compute the escape rate for different values of the energy. In particular, we give the percentage of orbits that escape after a finite number of iterations. In a system with escapes one cannot define a Poincaré recurrence time, because the available phase space is infinite. However, for certain domains inside the lobes of the asymptotic manifolds there is a finite minimum recurrence time. We find the minimum recurrence time as a function of the energy. This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We generate families of planar periodic orbits emanating from the geostationary points, both stable and unstable. We show that, even for the unstable points, it is possible to have stable periodic orbits. This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The resonant structure of the restricted three body problem for the Sun- Jupiter asteroid system in the plane is studied, both for a circular and an elliptic orbit of Jupiter. Three typical resonances are studied, the 2 : 1, 3 : 1 and 4 : 1 mean motion resonance of the asteroid with Jupiter. The structure of the phase space is topologically different in these cases. These are typical for all other resonances in the asteroid problem. In each case we start with the unperturbed two-body system Sun-asteroid and we study the continuation of the periodic orbits when the perturbation due to a circular orbit of Jupiter is introduced. Families of periodic orbits of the first and of the second kind are presented. The structure of the phase space on a surface of section is also given. Next, we study the families of periodic orbits of the asteroid in the elliptic restricted problem with the eccentricity of Jupiter as a parameter. These orbits bifurcate from the families of the circular problem. Finally, we compare the above families of periodic orbits with the corresponding families of fixed points of the averaged problem. Different averaged Hamiltonians are considered in each resonance and the range of validity of each model is discussed.  相似文献

It is already known (Froeschlé et al., 1997a) that the fast Lyapunov indicator (hereafter FLI), i.e. the computation on a relatively short time of a quantity related to the largest Lyapunov indicator, allows us to discriminate between ordered and weak chaotic motion. Using the FLI many results have been obtained on the standard map taken as a model problem. On this model we are not only able to discriminate between a short time weak chaotic motion and an ordered one, but also among regular motion between non resonant and resonant orbits. Moreover, periodic orbits are characterised by constant FLI values which appear to be related to the order of periodic orbits (Lega and Froeschlé, 2001). In the present paper we extend all these results to the case of continuous dynamical systems (the Hénon and Heiles system and the restricted three-body problem). Especially for the periodic orbits we need to introduce a new value: the orthogonal FLI in order to fully recover the results obtained for mappings.  相似文献

We present families of periodic orbits and their stability for the exterior mean motion resonances 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 with Neptune in the framework of the planar circular restricted three-body problem. We found that in each resonance there exist two branches of symmetric elliptic periodic orbits with stable and unstable segments. Asymmetric periodic orbits bifurcate from the corresponding symmetric ones. Asymmetric periodic orbits are stable and the motion in their neighbourhood is a libration with respect to the resonant angle variable. In all the families of asymmetric periodic orbits the eccentricity extends to high values. Poincaré sections reveal the changes of the topology in phase space.  相似文献

In the zonal problem of a satellite around the Earth, we continue numerically natural families of periodic orbits with the polar component of the angular momentum as the parameter. We found three families; two of them are made of orbits with linear stability while the third one is made of unstable orbits. Except in a neighborhood of the critical inclination, the stable periodic (or frozen) orbits have very small eccentricities even for large inclinations.  相似文献
