The potential and linear force-free field models for the magnetic field in the solar corona are often used in the analysis of flares. The field is calculated using boundary values measured in the low solar atmosphere. The topology of the field calculated using these models is then compared to the position of flare emissions. We demonstrate that the topology of the field according to each of these models, with the same boundary conditions in place, is not in general even qualitatively equivalent. An argument is given for a similar discrepancy between a linear force-free field solution and a nonlinear force-free field solution.  相似文献

Photospheric line-of-sight and transverse magnetic field data obtained with the Marshall Space Flight Center vector magnetograph system for an isolated sunspot are described. A study of the linear polarization patterns and of the calculated transverse field lines indicates that the magnetic field of the region is very nearly potential. The H fibril structures of this region as seen in high resolution photographs corroborate this conclusion. Consequently, a potential field calculation is described using the measured line-of-sight fields together with assumed Neumann boundary conditions; both are necessary and sufficient for a unique solution. The computed transverse fields are then compared with the measured transverse fields to verify the potential field model and assumed boundary values. The implications of these comparisons on the validity of magnetic field extrapolations using potential theory are discussed.  相似文献

The stability of strange quark matter in the presence of a strong magnetic field is investigated using a dynamical, density dependent, quark mass approach to confinement. Changes in both the single particle and bulk energies of a system which are due to the strong magnetic field are also calculated. It is shown that the presence of a magnetic field makes strange quark matter energetically more stable.  相似文献

Measurements of magnetic fields and electric currents in the pre-eruptive corona are crucial to the study of solar eruptive phenomena, like flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). However, spectro-polarimetric measurements of certain photospheric lines permit a determination of the vector magnetic field only at the photosphere. Therefore, there is considerable interest in accurate modeling of the solar coronal magnetic field using photospheric vector magnetograms as boundary data. In this work, we model the coronal magnetic field above multiple active regions with the help of a potential field and a nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation code over the full solar disk using Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (SDO/HMI) data as boundary conditions. We compare projections of the resulting magnetic field lines with full-disk coronal images from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (SDO/AIA) for both models. This study has found that the NLFFF model reconstructs the magnetic configuration closer to observation than the potential field model for full-disk magnetic field extrapolation. We conclude that many of the trans-equatorial loops connecting the two solar hemispheres are current-free.  相似文献

We performed three dimensional resistive magnetohydrodynamic simulations to study the magnetic reconnection using an initially shearing magnetic field configuration(force free field with a current sheet in the middle of the computational box).It is shown that there are two types of reconnection jets:the ordinary reconnection jets and fan-shaped jets, which are formed along the guide magnetic field. The fan-shaped jets are significantly different from the ordinary reconnection jets which are ejected by magneti...  相似文献

The equilibrium structure and oscillations of a partially degenerate standard model in the presence of a poloidal magnetic field have been studied. The magnetic field in the interior has been matched with an outside dipole field. The effect of magnetic field on the various structural parameters, e.g., mass, central condensation, moment of inertia, and oblateness has been computed for different values of the central degeneracy of the model. We have also studied the effect of magnetic field on radial oscillations of the configuration. A variational formulation is used to compute the changes in the frequency of radial mode of oscillation. It has been shown that the changes in frequency computed for various models using a two-parameter eigenfunction are in fair agreement with the values obtained by using the exact eigenfunction.  相似文献

The inhomogeneous Bianchi-I model based on Lyra's geometry has been studied in the cosmological theory in presence of a massless inhomogeneous scalar field whose potential has a flat part. The field equations are solved using separation of variables and it is shown that one of the time part of the field equations are solvable for any arbitrary other cosmic scale function. Solutions for a particular form of cosmic scale (time part) is presented. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Vector magnetic field synoptic charts from the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) are now available for each Carrington Rotation (CR) starting from CR 2097 in May 2010. Synoptic charts are produced using 720-second cadence full-disk vector magnetograms remapped to Carrington coordinates. The vector field is derived from the Stokes parameters (\(I, Q, U, V\)) using a Milne–Eddington-based inversion model. The \(180^{\circ}\) azimuth ambiguity is resolved using the minimum energy algorithm for pixels in active regions and for strong-field pixels (the field is greater than about 150 G) in quiet-Sun regions. Three other methods are used for the rest of the pixels: the potential-field method, the radial acute-angle method, and the random method. The vector field synoptic charts computed using these three disambiguation methods are evaluated. The noise in the three components of the vector magnetic field is generally much higher in the potential-field method charts. The component noise levels are significantly different in the radial-acute charts. However, the noise levels in the random-method charts are lower and comparable. The assumptions used in the potential-field and radial-acute methods to disambiguate the weak transverse field introduce bias that propagates differently into the three vector-field components, leading to unreasonable pattern and artifacts, whereas the random method appears not to introduce any systematic bias. The current sheet on the source surface, computed using the potential-field source-surface model applied to random-method charts, agrees with the best solution (the result computed from the synoptic charts with the minimum energy algorithm applied to each and every pixel in the vector magnetograms) much better than the other two. Differences in the synoptic charts determined with the best method and the random method are much smaller than those from the best method and the other two. This comparison indicates that the random method is better for vector field synoptic maps computed from near-central meridian data. The vector field synoptic charts provided by the Joint Science Operations Center (JSOC) are therefore produced with the random method.  相似文献

Toroidal and poloidal vector fields allow divergence free magnetic field representations in regions where currents flow. We derive general magnetospheric magnetic fields using combinations of spherical harmonic expansions of the toroidal and poloidal fields. Adding restrictive conditions like the field line topology symmetry or the magnetic field measurements, more specific magnetospheric magnetic field models can be derived. Two examples of this technique are given : an axisymmetric model with a ring current in the equatorial region and a time-dependent model of the Earth's magnetosphere. Our results are compared with the Olson-Pfitzer model.  相似文献

Isointensity contours of 630 nm auroral emission are traced into the magnetosphere, using two different empirical magnetic field models, the Mead-Fairfield model, and the Hedgecock-Thomas model. The auroral data are for a specific ISIS-II satellite pass, and so the starting points are expressed in geographic latitude and longitude coordinates, at a specific universal time. The magnetic field models are constructed from satellite magnetometer measurements, and those used correspond to magnetically quiet times. The projections are found to agree reasonably well with direct plasma measurements of the plasma sheet. The projections of the dayside contour connect to widely different regions of the magnetosphere, providing an interpretation that is consistent with observations of the dayside aurora. It is concluded that field line projections of the aurora into the magnetosphere using these models is a valid procedure, but only under quiet-time conditions.  相似文献

We present a study on the polarized electric field during the collisionless magnetic reconnection of antiparallel fields using two dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. The simulations demonstrate clearly that electron holes and electric field with bipolar structure are produced during magnetic reconnection without a guide field. The electric field with bipolar structure can be found near the X-line and on the separatrix and the plasma sheet boundary layer, which is consistent with the observations. These structures will elongate electron’s time staying in the diffusion region. In addition, the electric fields with tripolar structures are also found in our simulation.  相似文献

Electron and proton acceleration by a super-Dreicer electric field is investigated in the non-neutral reconnecting current sheet (RCS) with a non-zero longitudinal component of the magnetic field ('guiding field'). The guiding field is assumed parallel to the direction of electric field and constant within an RCS. The other two magnetic field components, transverse and tangential, are considered to vary with distances from the X null point of an RCS. The proton and electron energy spectra are calculated numerically from a motion equation using the test particle approach for model RCSs with constant and variable densities. In the presence of a strong or moderate guiding field, protons were found fully or partially separated from electrons at ejection from an RCS into the opposite, 'electron' and 'proton', semiplanes. In the case of a weak guiding field, both protons and electrons are ejected symmetrically in equal proportions as neutral beams. The particles ejected from an RCS with a very weak or very strong guiding field have power-law energy spectra with spectral indices of about 1.5 for protons and 2.0 for electrons. For a moderate guiding field, the energy spectra of electrons ejected into the opposite semiplanes are mixed, i.e. in the 'electron-dominated' semiplane power-law energy spectra for electrons and thermal-like for protons, while in the 'proton' semiplane they are symmetrically mirrored.  相似文献

The magnetic fields in the solar atmosphere structure the plasma, store free magnetic energy and produce a wide variety of active solar phenomena, like flare and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). The distribution and strength of magnetic fields are routinely measured in the solar surface (photosphere). Therefore, there is considerable interest in accurately modeling the 3D structure of the coronal magnetic field using photospheric vector magnetograms. Knowledge of the 3D structure of magnetic field lines also help us to interpret other coronal observations, e.g., EUV images of the radiating coronal plasma. Nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) models are thought to be viable tools for those task. Usually those models use Cartesian geometry. However, the spherical nature of the solar surface cannot be neglected when the field of view is large. In this work, we model the coronal magnetic field above multiple active regions using NLFFF extrapolation code using vector magnetograph data from the Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of the Sun survey (SOLIS)/Vector Spectromagnetograph (VSM) as a boundary conditions. We compare projections of the resulting magnetic field lines solutions with their respective coronal EUV-images from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (SDO/AIA) observed on October 15, 2011 and November 13, 2012. This study has found that the NLFFF model in spherical geometry reconstructs the magnetic configurations for several active regions which agrees to some extent with observations. During October 15, 2011 observation, there are substantial number of trans-equatorial loops carrying electric current.  相似文献

Recent wide field photometric surveys, which target a specific field for long durations, are ideal for studying both long- and short-period stellar variability. Here, we report on 75 variable stars detected during the observations of a field in Pegasus using the Wide Angle Search for Planets Prototype (WASP0) instrument, 73 of which are new discoveries. The variables detected include 16 δ Scuti stars, 34 eclipsing binaries, 3 BY Draconis stars and 4 RR Lyraes. We estimate that the fraction of stars in the field brighter than   V ∼ 13.5  exhibiting variable behaviour with an amplitude greater than 0.6 per cent rms is ∼0.4 per cent. These results are compared with other wide field stellar variability surveys, and implications for detecting transits due to extra-solar planets are discussed.  相似文献

The possible avenues for photoelectron transport were determined during southern hemisphere winter at Mars by using a mapping analysis of the theoretical magnetic field. Magnetic field line tracing was performed by superposing two magnetic field models: (1) magnetic field derived from a three-dimensional (3D) self-consistent quasi-neutral hybrid model which does not contain the Martian crustal magnetic anomalies and (2) a 3D map of the magnetic field associated with the magnetic anomalies based on Mars Global Surveyor magnetic field measurements. It was found that magnetic field lines connected to the nightside of the planet are mainly channeled within the optical shadow of the magnetotail whereas magnetic field lines connected to the dayside of the planet are observed to form the remainder of the magnetosphere. The simulation suggests that the crustal anomalies create “a magnetic shield” by decreasing the region near Mars which is magnetically connected to the Martian magnetosphere. The rotation of Mars causes periodic changes in magnetic connectivity, but not to qualitative changes in the overall magnetic field draping around Mars.  相似文献

The in fluence of the different reflective boundaries on the polarized radiation field in a conservative homogeneous plane-parallel atmosphere is studied. The equation of transfer for molecular scattering is solved using the method of discrete ordinates and the results are checked by using the invariant imbedding approach. The results of a long series of numerical experiments have shown that in general a reflecting boundary at the bottom depolarizes the radiation field while the depolarizing effect of an isotropic scatterer is much larger than that of a specular reflector or a perfect absorber.  相似文献

At Mercury's surface external magnetic field contributions caused by magnetospheric current systems play a much more important role than at Earth. They are subjected to temporal variations and therefore will induce currents in the large conductive iron core. These currents give rise to an additional magnetic field superposing the planetary field. We present a model to estimate the size of the induced fields using a magnetospheric magnetic field model with time-varying magnetopause position. For the Hermean interior we assume a two-layer conductivity distribution. We found out that about half of the surface magnetic field is due to magnetospheric or induced currents. The induced fields achieve 7-12% of the mean surface magnetic intensity of the internal planetary field, depending on the core size. The magnetic field was also modeled for a satellite moving along a polar orbit in the Hermean magnetosphere, showing the importance of a careful separation of the magnetic field measurements.  相似文献

Solar eruptive phenomena, like flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are governed by magnetic fields. To describe the structure of these phenomena one needs information on the magnetic flux density and the electric current density vector components in three dimensions throughout the atmosphere. However, current spectro-polarimetric measurements typically limit the determination of the vector magnetic field to only the photosphere. Therefore, there is considerable interest in accurate modeling of the solar coronal magnetic field using photospheric vector magnetograms as boundary data. In this work, we model the coronal magnetic field for global solar atmosphere using nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation codes implemented to a synoptic maps of photospheric vector magnetic field synthesized from the Vector Spectromagnetograph (VSM) on Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of the Sun (SOLIS) as boundary condition. Using the resulting three-dimensional magnetic field, we calculate the three-dimensional electric current density and magnetic energy throughout the solar atmosphere for Carrington rotation 2124 using our global extrapolation code. We found that spatially, the low-lying, current-carrying core field demonstrates a strong concentration of free energy in the active-region core, from the photosphere to the lower corona (about 70 Mm). The free energy density appears largely co-spatial with the electric current distribution.  相似文献

We present a 2-D potential-field model for the magnetic structure in the environment of a typical quiescent polar-crown prominence. The field is computed using the general method of Titov (1992) in which a curved current sheet, representing the prominence, is supported in equilibrium by upwardly directed Lorentz forces to balance the prominence weight. The mass density of the prominence sheet is computed in this solution using a simple force balance and observed values of the photospheric and prominence magnetic field. This calculation gives a mass density of the correct order of magnitude. The prominence sheet is surrounded by an inverse-polarity field configuration adjacent to a region of vertical, open polar field in agreement with observations.A perturbation analysis provides a method for studying the evolution of the current sheet as the parameters of the system are varied together with an examination of the splitting of an X-type neutral point into a current sheet.Program Systems Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Pereslavl-Zalessky 152140, Russia.  相似文献

We have found an approximate solution of Dirac equation using Foldy-Wouthuysen-Tani Hamiltonian of a Dirac particle in the Kerr gravitational field. We have solved the equation approximately using time-independent perturbation theory for the positive energy states. We have found frequencies by which these states oscillate. Difference of the periods of any of these two states has an identical form of the classical gravitomagnetic clock effect where the terms are quantized. So that, we have found a quantum version of the gravitomagnetic clock effect of a Dirac fermion in the Kerr gravitational field.  相似文献
