New methods are applied to samples of classical cepheids in the galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud, and the Small Magellanic Cloud to determine the interstellar extinction law for the classical cepheids, R B:R V:R I:R J:R H:R K= 4.190:3.190:1.884:0.851:0.501:0.303, the color excesses for classical cepheids in the galaxy, E(B-V)=-0.382-0.168logP+0.766(V-I), and the color excesses for classical cepheids in the LMC and SMC, E(B-V)=-0.374-0.166logP+0.766(V-I). The dependence of the intrinsic color (B-V)0 on the metallicity of classical cepheids is discussed. The intrinsic color (V-I)0 is found to be absolutely independent of the metallicity of classical cepheids. A high precision formula is obtained for calculating the intrinsic colors of classical cepheids in the galaxy: (<B>-<V>)0=0.365(±0.011)+0.328(±0.012)logP.  相似文献

The distances of HST program galaxies are revised using the PL-relations we have obtained previously along with a different method from that employed by Freedman et al. On the average, the resulting distances to these galaxies have higher internal accuracies than those obtained before by others. In addition, we have used no corrections for metallicity or for the incompleteness of the samples of classical cepheids in deriving these distances. Despite this, our distance moduli, with a dispersion of ±0m.395, agree with those of Freedman et al. This indicates that these two effects have little or even no effect for the samples of classical cepheids in the HST program galaxies.  相似文献

The results of photoelectricUBV observations of asteroid 77 Frigga during the 1982 opposition are presented. From eight nights of observations at phase angles smaller than 2 o . 8 a synodic period of 0 d . 3755±0 d . 0006 is derived. The light curve appears very symmetric with two maxima per period and an amplitude of 0 m . 19. The primary maximum corresponds toV(0o)=8 m . 58, and the colour indices are:B–V = 0 . m 738 ± 0 . m 003 andU–B = 0 . m 200 ± 0 . m 002.  相似文献

We present light curve solutions for the W UMa-type eclipsing binaries EP, EQ, ER, ES, and V369 Cep in the old open cluster NGC 188. Using light curve solution parameters combined with reasonable mass estimates, we determine the distance modulusV-M vof the cluster. Our aim is to examine if current uncertainties in the cluster's distance and age can be resolved. Three binaries yield distance moduli close to 10 . m 80 (±0 . m 08), two others give values around 11 . m 40(±0 . m 09). Depending on the amount of reddening, we find a weighted mean distance modulus for all five binaries between 11 . m 01 and 11 . m 05 (±0 . m 06), which lends modest support for the lower distance (1.65 kpc) and older age (10 Gyr) of the cluster.Participants in the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Florida International University, sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

By use of the reddening free [m 1], [c 1], and indices data inuvby photometric system for three classical cepheids whose reddening values had been determined with the aid of photometry of field stars, three intrinsic relations of [m 1]–(b–y), [c 1]–(b–y), and –(b–y) have been established. It was shown that these three relations can be used to determine the colour excesses for other classical cepheids.  相似文献

In the open cluster NGC 752, 89 stars are observed in the Vilnius seven-colour photometric system, including probable members fainter than observed hitherto. Spectral classification of observed stars are made and individual reddening values are determined. The mean reddening of the cluster stars is equivalentE(B - V) = 0 . m 025. By fitting on colour index-magnitude diagrams the cluster Main Sequence with the Hyades one the distance modulus (m - M)0 = 8 . m 15 ± 0 . m 15 is found. For 11 red giant members of the cluster absolute magnitudes are derived and compared with ones of the standard calibration. It is obtained that the cluster giants are in mean 0 . m 6 fainter than giants of corresponding spectral class in the solar vicinity.  相似文献

Photometric data extracted from more than 5000 CCD observations of theMilky Way field star NSV 01450, with galactic co-ordinates l =145°.9and b=4° .9, show that this object is a bright classical Cepheid witha period of 12.639 ± 0.020 days and an average V magnitude of 11.045± 0.016. The computed colour excess is E(B-V)= 0.553± 0.056, yielding a distance modulus m V -MV of 15.537 ± 0.212.In addition, it was found that the star GSC 3730_0797 in the field ofNSV 01450 is also variable.  相似文献

In this paper, we present VRc photometric observations of four dwarf cepheids: YZ Boo (P = 0 . d 104, V = 0 . m 5), AD CMi (P = 0 . d 123, V = 0 . m 5), XX Cyg (P = 0 . d 135, V = 0 . m 5), EH Lib (P = 0 . d 088, V = 0 . m 7). The light curves were obtained at West Mountain Observatory, Provo, Utah on 14 nights from 1983 through 1986 and contain 589 data points in each of theV andR bands in the Cousin photometric system. A detailed study of these stars, based on the present light curves, will be published separately.  相似文献

UBV photoelectric observations of the W UMa-type binary V471 Cas were made from September to November 1984. Its colour indices were found to be(B-V)=0 . m 771±0 . m 02 and(U-B)=0 . m 196±0 . m 02. TheU, B, andV light curves of V471 Cas show some photometric fluctuations. We found that its orbital period is not 0.335998 days which was given by GCVS (1986), but 0.405356 days.Photometric orbital elements of V471 Cas were found using the Wilson-Devinney method. V471 Cas is a contact system, in which the overcontact factor is 0.19, its mass ratio of two components is 0.5947, and orbital minclination is in 83.29 degrees.  相似文献

Detailed surface photometry for the SB(s)a galaxy NGC 7771 has been carried out in the blue spectral band. Isophotes, luminosity profiles, and photometric parameters are obtained from photographs collected with the 74 inch telescope of Kottamia Observatory, Egypt. The total apparent magnitudem T =13.08 with maximum dimensions 3.6±0.5×2.7±0.5 (at threshold µ m = 27.38 mag s–2). The absolute magnitude isM T =–21.70 if the distance is =90.2 Mpc. The major axis is in position angle =69°.5±1° and the mean axis ratio of the outer regionsq=b/a=0.45 corresponds to an inclinationi=66°. The equivalent effective radiusr e * =0.29 and the effective surface brightness µ e = 22.30 mag s–2.The equivalent luminosity distribution has been decomposed into two main components, anr 1/4 spheroid and an exponential disk. The total apparent magnitudes of the spheroidal and disk components are 14.36 and 13.48, which correspond to contributions of 31 and 69% to the total blue luminosity, respectively.  相似文献

A new sample of M51-type galaxies consisting of 46 systems is used to estimate the B-band luminosity function. The luminosity function for the primary components of the systems can be described by a Schechter function with the parameters * = (1.4±0.3)×10-5 Mpc-3, = -1.3+0.4 -0.3, and M * = -20.3+0.2 -0.1. The values of the latter two parameters are comparable to those for isolated galactic pairs. The resulting estimate of the average density of M51-type galaxies is (4±3)% of the average density of isolated pairs for luminosities in the range -22m.0<M<-16m.0  相似文献

Photometry of HD 155638=V792 Her has been analyzed to determine the elements of this totally eclipsing RS CVn binary. The light variation outside eclipse was found to have a period of 27d.07±0d.07, which is slightly different from the 27d.5384±0d.0045 orbital period. Analysis of the eclipses was achieved by a modification of the Russell-Merrill technique. With the aid of radial velocity measures, absolute elements were obtained for the hot and cool stars, respectively;R h=2.58R ,R c=12.28R ,M h=1.40M ,M c=1.46M ,i=80o.61 and velocity semi-amplitudesK c=48.36 km s–1±0.79 km s–1, andK h=50.50 km s–1±0.33 km s–1. The apparent magnitudes areV h=9 m .73 andV c=8 m .48. The distance to HD 155638 was estimated to be 310 parsecs.  相似文献

In 1996, photometric observations of the near-Earth asteroid NEA 4197 (1982 TA) were performed at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. More than 2000 brightness measurements in the V band were made. The harmonic data analysis at a fairly high significance level revealed two close periods, P 1= 3h .5372 ± 0h .0005 (amplitude 0 m .4) and P 2= 4h .367 ± 0h .001 (amplitude 0 m .2). The third period, P 3= 20h .26 ± 0h .05 (amplitude about 0 m .15), was found at a lower significance level. The conclusion was drawn that the asteroid is a binary system. Its components rotate with the periods P 1and P 2, and P 3is probably related to the orbital motion of the components. Assuming that the diameters of both components are equal to 2 km, the orbital radius equals 4.4 km.  相似文献

While implementing the first stage of the Pulkovo program of research on stars with large proper motions, we determined the trigonometric parallaxes of 29 stars (12 m < V < 16 m ) based on CCD observations with a 26-inch refractor. The mean standard error was 3.7 mas. Comparison of the Pulkovo parallaxes with those obtained at the Observatory of the Yale University and the US Naval Observatory (USNO) has shown that the parallax differences (Pulkovo-Yale/USNO) lie within the limits of their measurement errors in an overwhelming majority of cases. On average, they are −0.6 ± 1.0 mas. No systematic dependences on stellar distance, magnitude, and color in this set of differences have been found. Our comparisons show that the observing and data reduction techniques used in the Pulkovo program of research on fast stars allow highly accurate trigonometric parallaxes of these objects to be obtained. All program stars are within 50 pc of the Sun; most of them belong to the immediate solar neighborhood (D < 25 pc). For two stars (J0522+3814 and J1202+3636), the trigonometric parallaxes have been determined for the first time.  相似文献

We have measured the decorrelation frequency (f v ) and decorrelation time (t v ) for 15 pulsars. We show by combining our data with those of others thatfv∫ DM-1.79±0.14 andt v ∫ DM-0.80±0.15 up to a dispersion measure (DM) of about 60 cm3 pc. The combined data set does not form a complete sample, but the relations obtained from our measurements on 14 pulsars, which form almost a complete sample up to 41 cm3 pc, are consistent with the above relations, suggesting that these relations are not seriously affected by selection effects. The relations are broadly in agreement with those expected from a homogeneous interstellar medium and are in disagreement with earlier conclusions by others that these relations steepen even for low-DM pulsars. The agreement suggests that the local interstellar medium is homogeneous at least up to a distance of about 2 kpc.  相似文献

The measurements ofuvby H of HD 93044 were obtained in April 1991, and the observational results that the star locates nearly in the middle of Scuti instability strip with somewhat deviation to red edge. According to Crawford (1979) and Philip's (1979) calibrations, the effective temperature, absolute visual magnitude and surface gravity are obtained to beT eff = 7300±200 K,M v = 1.m33±0.39 and logg = 3.7±0.15, respectively. The observational results of m1 = 0.01 give an estimate of [Fe/H] = –0.003 ± 0.18, so the opinion of metallic deficient is not supported obviously. The observations show the reddening indexE(b -y) to be 0.014 which is 1.4 times as large as the standard deviation of Crawford's (1979) statistics.Project supported by Young Foundation of Beijing Astronomical Observatory, China  相似文献

The local expansion field (v 220 <1200 km s-1) and the cosmic expansion field out to 30 000 km s-1 are characterized by H 0 = 58 [km s-1 Mpc-1]. While the random error of this determination is small (± 2 units), it may still be affected by systematic errors as large as ±10%>. The local expansion is outlined by Cepheids and by Cepheid-calibrated TF distances of a complete sample of field galaxies and by nearby groups and clusters; the cosmic expansion is defined by Cepheid-calibrated SNe Ia. The main source of systematic errors are therefore the shape and the zero point of the P-L relation of Cepheids and its possible dependence on metallicity. GAIA will essentially eliminate these systematic error sources. Another source of systematic error is due to the homogenization of SNe Ia as to decline rate Δm 15 and color (B-V). GAIA will discover most of the 1100 SNe Ia within 10 000 km s-1, which will occur during its four-year lifetime. If their photometric parameters can be determined from the ground, they will fix the dependence of the SNe Ia luminosity on Δ m 15 and (B-V) with high accuracy. At the same time they will yield exquisite distances to an equal number of field galaxies. – GAIA will also revolutionize the very local distance scale by determining fundamental distances of the companion galaxies of the Milky Way and even of some spirals in- and possibly outside the Local Group from their rotation curves seen in radial velocities and proper motions. Moreover, GAIA will obtain trigonometric parallaxes of RR Lyrae stars, of red giants defining the TRGB, of stars on the ZAMS, of White Dwarf defining their cooling sequence, and of globular clusters, and determine the metallicity dependence of these distance indicators. It will thus establish a self-controlling network of distance indicators within the Local Group and beyond. HD 165590 is a visual binary (dG0 + dG5,P = 20 . y 25,e = 0.96) whoseA component is an SB1 double (dG5 + dM:P = 0 . d 88,e0.0). TheA pair (Aa +Ab) undergoes partial eclipses. PhotoelectricUBV photometry from Lines and one of the Automatic Photoelectric Telescopes, andV photometry from Scarfe are examined here. The data are from the 1977, 1984, 1985, and 1986 observing seasons. The non-eclipse light variations are analyzed with a FORTRAN program which does a sinusoidal curve fitvia least squares repeatedly to obtain the best period. Periods found from each observing season and passband are consistent with Boydet al. (1985): the greatest variations seem to be produced by a rotating (0 . d 88), spotted, G0 star (theAa component). To the residuals from the first analysis a further curve fit is made to determine characteristics of the wave due to the ellipticity effect. An early limit on the spectral type of the unseenAb component, based on the primary eclpse depth and the upper limit on the depth of the unseen secondary eclipse, is K2. Eclipse depths and widths seen here suggest that theA pair's inclination = 74 . 0 9 ± 10, close to theA +B inclination of 82 . 0 7 ± 20 (Battenet al., 1979). TheA pair's orbital period does not appear to vary, appearing instead to be well-described by a new linear ephemeris (Hel. J.D. = 2443665.4568 + 0 . d 8795045E) which does, however, take into account a variable light-travel-times as theA component orbits theA +B center of mass with a 20 . y 25 period. The maximum light-travel-time O-C thus produced is + /–8 . m 4 = + /–0 . d 0059.  相似文献
