We present G-band and Ca ii H filtergrams of two sunspot light bridges in NOAA AR 10953 taken from the 50-cm Solar Optical Telescope onboard the Japanese space satellite Hinode on 1 May 2007. The two light bridges differ in structure, with one of them resembling the filamentary penumbra and the other possessing a dark central lane running along the axis of the bridge having a width of 170 km, which is close to the diffraction limit of the telescope. Velocity measurements of the light bridges using proper motion displacements of inhomogeneities, averaged over the entire time series, show a nonuniform flow with velocities peaking at 250 and 180 m s−1 for the two bridges, respectively. We report observations of an archlike structure over one of the light bridges in the Ca images. Brightness enhancements are seen traveling along this arch as well as along the light bridge. Observations suggest that these enhancements over light bridges could possibly be a signature of lower chromospheric heating.  相似文献

A statistical study is carried out to investigate the detailed relationship between rotating sunspots and the emergence of magnetic flux tubes. This paper presents the velocity characteristics of 132 sunspots in 95 solar active regions. The rotational characteristics of the sunspots are calculated from successive SOHO/MDI magnetograms by applying the Differential Affine Velocity Estimator (DAVE) technique (Schuck, 2006, Astrophys. J. 646, 1358). Among 82 sunspots in active regions exhibiting strong flux emergence, 63 showed rotation with rotational angular velocity larger than 0.4° h−1. Among 50 sunspots in active regions without well-defined flux emergence, 14 showed rotation, and the rotation velocities tend to be slower, compared to those in emerging regions. In addition, we investigated 11 rotating sunspot groups in which both polarities show evidence for co-temporary rotation. In seven of these cases the two polarities co-rotate, while the other four are found to be counter-rotating. Plausible reasons for the observed characteristics of the rotating sunspots are discussed.  相似文献

The Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) onboard Hinode is the first solar telescope to obtain wide-slit spectral images that can be used for detecting Doppler flows in transition region and coronal lines on the Sun and to relate them to their surrounding small-scale dynamics. We select EIS lines covering the temperature range 6×104 to 2×106 K that give spectrally pure images of the Sun with the 40-arcsec slit. In these images Doppler shifts are seen as horizontal brightenings. Inside the image it is difficult to distinguish shifts from horizontal structures but emission beyond the image edge can be unambiguously identified as a line shift in several lines separated from others on their blue or red side by more than the width of the spectrometer slit (40 pixels). In the blue wing of He ii, we find a large number of events with properties (size and lifetime) similar to the well-studied explosive events seen in the ultraviolet spectral range. Comparison with X-Ray Telescope (XRT) images shows many Doppler shift events at the footpoints of small X-ray loops. The most spectacular event observed showed a strong blue shift in the transition region and lower corona lines from a small X-ray spot that lasted less than 7 min. The emission appears to be near a cool coronal loop connecting an X-ray bright point to an adjacent region of quiet Sun. The width of the emission implies a line-of-sight velocity of 220 km s−1. In addition, we show an example of an Fe xv shift with a velocity of about 120 km s−1, coming from what looks like a narrow loop leg connecting a small X-ray brightening to a larger region of X-ray emission.  相似文献

Using the Greenwich Photoheliographic Results for the years 1874–1976 the daily rotational velocities for 955 recurrent and 13169 non-recurrent sunspot groups from the first day of their appearance and during their evolution have been determined. The rotational velocities were divided in six latitude strips with a width of five degrees and grouped according to the age of the groups. It was established that the rotational velocities of recurrent and non-recurrent sunspot groups decrease with time in all studied latitude strips. At their birth the recurrent spot groups rotate faster by about 0.15° day−1 than the non-recurrent ones and settle, within the errors of measurements, to an about 0.5° day−1 slower velocity value during the second disc passage. A comparison of our results with helioseismology measurements indicates that in the frame of the anchoring hypothesis, the recurrent sunspot groups at their birth could be coupled to the fast rotating layer at about r=0.93 R .  相似文献

The properties of solar magnetic fields on scales less than the spatial resolution of solar telescopes are studied. A synthetic infrared spectropolarimetric diagnostic based on a 2D MHD simulation of magnetoconvection is used for this. Analyzed are two time sequences of snapshots that likely represent two regions of the network fields with their immediate surroundings on the solar surface with unsigned magnetic flux densities of 300 and 140 G. In the first region from the probability density functions of the magnetic field strength it is found that the most probable field strength at log τ 5=0 is equal to 250 G. Weak fields (B<500 G) occupy about 70% of the surface, whereas stronger fields (B>1000 G) occupy only 9.7% of the surface. The magnetic flux is −28 G and its imbalance is −0.04. In the second region, these parameters are correspondingly equal to 150 G, 93.3%, 0.3%, −40 G, and −0.10. The distribution of line-of-sight velocities on the surface of log τ 5=−1 is estimated. The mean velocity is equal to 0.4 km s−1 in the first simulated region. The average velocity in the granules is −1.2 km s−1 and in the intergranules it is 2.5 km s−1. In the second region, the corresponding values of the mean velocities are equal to 0, −1.8, and 1.5 km s−1. In addition the asymmetry of synthetic Stokes V profiles of the Fe i 1564.8 nm line is analyzed. The mean values of the amplitude and area asymmetry do not exceed 1%. The spatially smoothed amplitude asymmetry is increased to 10% whereas the area asymmetry is only slightly varied.  相似文献

The Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) onboard Hinode aims to obtain vector magnetic fields on the Sun through precise spectropolarimetry of solar spectral lines with a spatial resolution of 0.2 – 0.3 arcsec. A photometric accuracy of 10−3 is achieved and, after the polarization calibration, any artificial polarization from crosstalk among Stokes parameters is required to be suppressed below the level of the statistical noise over the SOT’s field of view. This goal was achieved by the highly optimized design of the SOT as a polarimeter, extensive analyses and testing of optical elements, and an end-to-end calibration test of the entire system. In this paper we review both the approach adopted to realize the high-precision polarimeter of the SOT and its final polarization characteristics.  相似文献

The minimum dissipative rate (MDR) method for deriving a coronal non-force-free magnetic field solution is partially evaluated. These magnetic field solutions employ a combination of three linear (constant-α) force-free-field solutions with one being a potential field (i.e., α=0). The particular case of the solutions where the other two α’s are of equal magnitude but of opposite sign is examined. This is motivated by studying the SOLIS (Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigation of the Sun (SOLIS), a National Solar Observatory facility) vector magnetograms of AR 10987, which show a global α value consistent with an α=0 value as evaluated by (×B) z /B z over the region. Typical of the current state of the observing technology, there is no definitive twist for input into the general MDR method. This suggests that the special α case, of two α’s with equal magnitudes and opposite signs, is appropriate given the data. Only for an extensively twisted active region does a dominant, nonzero α normally emerge from a distribution of local values. For a special set of conditions, is it found that (i) the resulting magnetic field is a vertically inflated magnetic field resulting from the electric currents being parallel to the photosphere, similar to the results of Gary and Alexander (Solar Phys. 186:123, 1999), and (ii) for α≈(α max /2), the Lorentz force per unit volume normalized by the square of the magnetic field is on the order of 1.4×10−10 cm−1. The Lorentz force (F L) is a factor of ten higher than that of the magnetic force d(B 2/8π)/dz, a component of F L. The calculated photospheric electric current densities are an order of magnitude smaller than the maximum observed in all active regions. Hence both the Lorentz force density and the generated electric current density seem to be physically consistent with possible solar dynamics. The results imply that the field could be inflated with an overpressure along the neutral line. However, the implementation of this or any other extrapolation method using the electric current density as a lower boundary condition must be done cautiously, with the current magnetography.  相似文献

Zhao and Kosovichev (Astrophys. J. 591, 446, 2003) found two opposite sub-photospheric vortical flows in the depth range of 0 – 12 Mm around a fast rotating sunspot. So far there is no theoretical model explaining such flow motions. In this paper, we try to explain this phenomenon from the point of view of magnetic flux tubes interacting with large-scale vortical motions of plasma. In the deeper zone under the photosphere, the magnetic force may be less than the nonmagnetic force of plasma. The vortical flow located there twists the flux tube and magnetic free energy is built up in the tube. In the shallower zone under the photosphere, the magnetic force may be greater than the nonmagnetic force. Thus, part of the stored magnetic free energy is released to drive the plasma to rotate in two opposite directions, e.g., in the depth ranges of 0 – 3(5) and 9 – 12 Mm. In addition, we also define a vector of nonpotential magnetic stress τ, which can be related to flare occurrence. It is calculated for the active region NOAA 10930 on 11 December 2006. We find that: i) the integral of its line-of-sight (LOS) stress successively increases around the magnetic neutral line (MNL) prior to and during the flare and decreases to a minimum after the flare; ii) the integral of its transverse stress exceeds the integral of its LOS component by one order of magnitude over the whole field of view; iii) the transverse stress first points toward the MNL, then along it, and finally it points away from it. We need other data to verify whether or not the magnetic energy is transported in the horizontal direction to the neutral line, and then partly changes into the energy in LOS direction before and during the flare.  相似文献

It has been established that small scale heating events, known as nanoflares, are important for solar coronal heating if the power-law distribution of their energies has a slope α steeper than −2 (α<−2). Forward modeling of impulsively heated coronal loops with a set of prescribed power-law indices α is performed. The power-law distribution is incorporated into the governing equations of motion through an impulsive heating term. The results are converted into synthetic Hinode/EIS observations in the 40″ imaging mode, using a selection of spectral lines formed at various temperatures. It is shown that the intensities of the emission lines and their standard deviations are sensitive to changes in α. A method based on a combination of observations and forward modeling is proposed for determining whether the heating in a particular case is due to small or large scale events. The method is extended and applied to a loop structure that consists of multiple strands.  相似文献

The X-Ray Telescope (XRT) onboard the Hinode satellite is an X-ray imager that observes the solar corona with unprecedentedly high angular resolution (consistent with its 1?? pixel size). XRT has nine X-ray analysis filters with different temperature responses. One of the most significant scientific features of this telescope is its capability of diagnosing coronal temperatures from less than 1 MK to more than 10 MK, which has never been accomplished before. To make full use of this capability, accurate calibration of the coronal temperature response of XRT is indispensable and is presented in this article. The effect of on-orbit contamination is also taken into account in the calibration. On the basis of our calibration results, we review the coronal-temperature-diagnostic capability of XRT.  相似文献

Here the effect of rotation up to third order in the angular velocity of a star on the p, f and g modes is investigated. To do this, the third-order perturbation formalism presented by Soufi et al. (Astron. Astrophys. 334:911, 1998) and revised by Karami (Chin. J. Astron. Astrophys. 8:285, 2008), was used. I quantify by numerical calculations the effect of rotation on the oscillation frequencies of a uniformly rotating β-Cephei star with 12 M . For an equatorial velocity of 90 km s−1, it is found that the second- and third-order corrections for (l,m)=(5,−4), for instance, are of order of 0.07% of the frequency for radial order n=−3 and reaches up to 0.6% for n=−20.  相似文献

We study two CME events on 13 and 14 December 2006 that were associated with large-scale dimmings. We study the eruptions from pre-event on 11 December through the recovery on 15 December, using a combination of Hinode/EIS, SOHO/EIT, SOHO/MDI, and MLSO Hα data. The GOES X-class flares obscured the core dimmings, but secondary dimmings developed remote from the active region (AR) in both events. The secondary dimmings are found to be formed by a removal of bright coronal material from loops in the plage region to the East of the AR. Using Hinode/EIS data, we find that the outflows associated with the coronal-dimming regions are highly structured. The concentrated outflows are located at the footpoints of coronal loops (which exist before, and are re-established after, the eruptions), and these are correlated with regions of positive magnetic elements. Comparative study of the Hinode/EIS and SOHO/EIT data shows that the reduction in outflow velocity is consistent with the recovery in intensity of the studied regions. We find that concentrated downflows develop during the recovery phase of the dimmings and are also correlated with the same positive magnetic elements that were previously related to outflows.  相似文献

A blowout jet occurred within the south coronal hole on 9 February 2011 at 09:00 UT and was observed by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) and Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory, and by the EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) and X-Ray Telescope (XRT) onboard the Hinode spacecraft during coronal-hole monitoring performed as part of Hinode Operations Program No. 177. Images from AIA show expanding hot and cold loops from a small bright point with plasma ejected in a curtain up to 30 Mm wide. The initial intensity front of the jet had a projected velocity of 200 km?s?1, and the line-of-sight (LOS) velocities measured by EIS are between 100 and 250 km?s?1. The LOS velocities increased along the jet, implying that an acceleration mechanism operates within the body of the jet. The jet plasma had a density of 2.7×108 cm?3 and a temperature of 1.4 MK. During the event a number of bright kernels were seen at the base of the bright point. The kernels have sizes of ≈?1000 km, are variable in brightness, and have lifetimes of 1?–?15 minutes. An XRT filter ratio yields temperatures of 1.5?–?3.0 MK for the kernels. The bright point existed for at least ten hours, but disappeared within two hours after the jet, which lasted for 30 minutes. HMI data reveal converging photospheric flows at the location of the bright point, and the mixed-polarity magnetic flux canceled over a period of four hours on either side of the jet.  相似文献

Relationship between Rotating Sunspots and Flares   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Active Region (AR) NOAA 10486 was a super AR in the declining phase of solar cycle 23. Dominated by the rapidly rotating positive polarity of an extensive δ sunspot, it produced several powerful flare-CMEs. We study the evolution and properties of the rotational motion of the major poles of positive polarities and estimate the accumulated helicity injected by them. We also present two homologous flares that occurred in the immediate periphery of the rotating sunspots. The main results are as follows: i) anticlockwise rotational motions are identified in the main poles of positive polarities in the AR; the fastest of them is about 220° for six days. ii) The helicity injection inferred from such rotational motion during the interval from October 25 to 30 is about − 3.0×1043 Mx2, which is comparable that calculated by the local correlation tracking (LCT) method (− 5.2×1043 Mx2) in the whole AR. It is suggested that both methods reveal the essential topological properties of the AR, even if the former includes only the major poles and the fine features of the magnetic field are neglected. iii) It is found that there is a good spatial and temporal correspondence between the onset of two homologous CME-associated flares and the rotational motion of sunspots. This suggests that the rotational motions of sunspots not only relate to the transport of magnetic energy and complexity from the low atmosphere to the corona but may also play a key role in the onset of the homologous flares. Based on data for 102 OB3 stars with known proper motions and radial velocities, we have tested the distances derived by Megier et al. from interstellar Ca II spectral lines. The internal reconciliation of the distance scales using the first derivative of the angular velocity of Galactic rotation Ω′0 and the external reconciliation with Humphreys’s distance scale for OB associations refined by Mel’nik and Dambis show that the initial distances should be reduced by ≈20%. Given this correction, the heliocentric distances of these stars lie within the range 0.6–2.6 kpc. A kinematic analysis of these stars at a fixed Galactocentric distance of the Sun, R 0 = 8 kpc, has allowed the following parameters to be determined: (1) the solar peculiar velocity components (u , v , ω ) = (8.9, 10.3, 6.8) ± (0.6, 1.0, 0.4) km s−1; (2) the Galactic rotation parameters Ω0 = −31.5 ± 0.9 km s−1 kpc−1, Ω′0 = +4.49 ± 0.12 km s−1 kpc−2, Ω″0 = −1.05 ± 0.38 km s−1 kpc−3 (the corresponding Oort constants are A = 17.9 ± 0.5 km s−1 kpc−1, B = −13.6 ± 1.0 km s−1 kpc−1 and the circular rotation velocity of the solar neighborhood is |V 0| = 252 ± 14 km s−1); (3) the spiral density wave parameters, namely: the perturbation amplitudes for the radial and azimuthal velocity components, respectively, f R = −12.5±1.1 km s−1 and f ϑ = 2.0 ± 1.6 km s−1; the pitch angle for the two-armed spiral pattern i = −5.3° ± 0.3°, with the wavelength of the spiral density wave at the solar distance being λ = 2.3 ± 0.2 kpc; the Sun’s phase in the spiral wave x = −91° ± 4°.  相似文献

The general-relativistic Ohm’s law for a two-component plasma which includes the gravitomagnetic force terms even in the case of quasi-neutrality has been derived. The equations that describe the electromagnetic processes in a plasma surrounding a neutron star are obtained by using the general relativistic form of Maxwell equations in a geometry of slow rotating gravitational object. In addition to the general-relativistic effect first discussed by Khanna and Camenzind (Astron. Astrophys. 307:665, 1996) we predict a mechanism of the generation of azimuthal current under the general relativistic effect of dragging of inertial frames on radial current in a plasma around neutron star. The azimuthal current being proportional to the angular velocity ω of the dragging of inertial frames can give valuable contribution on the evolution of the stellar magnetic field if ω exceeds 2.7×1017(n/σ) s−1 (n is the number density of the charged particles, σ is the conductivity of plasma). Thus in general relativity a rotating neutron star, embedded in plasma, can in principle generate axial-symmetric magnetic fields even in axisymmetry. However, classical Cowling’s antidynamo theorem, according to which a stationary axial-symmetric magnetic field can not be sustained against ohmic diffusion, has to be hold in the general-relativistic case for the typical plasma being responsible for the rotating neutron star.  相似文献

Using data from the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE), Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI), and Hida Observatory (HO), we present a detailed study of an EUV jet and the associated Hα filament eruption in a major flare in the active region NOAA 10044 on 29 July 2002. In the Hα line wings, a small filament was found to erupt out from the magnetic neutral line of the active region during the flare. Two bright EUV loops were observed rising and expanding with the filament eruption, and both hot and cool EUV plasma ejections were observed to form the EUV jet. The two thermal components spatially separated from each other and lasted for about 25 minutes. In the white-light corona data, a narrow coronal mass ejection (CME) was found to respond to this EUV jet. We cannot find obvious emerging flux in the photosphere accounting for the filament eruption and the EUV jet. However, significant sunspot decay and magnetic-flux cancelation owing to collision of opposite flux before the events were noticed. Based on the hard X-ray data from RHESSI, which showed evidence of magnetic reconnection along the main magnetic neutral line, we think that all of the observed dynamical phenomena, including the EUV jet, filament eruption, flare, and CME, should have a close relation to the flux cancelation in the low atmosphere.  相似文献

High-cadence TRACE observations show that outward-propagating intensity disturbances are a common feature in large, quiescent coronal loops. Analysis of the frequency distribution of these modes shows peaks at both three- and five-minute periods, indicating that they may be driven by the solar surface oscillations (p modes). The energy flux contained within the coronal intensity disturbances is of the order of (1.1±0.4)×103 ergs cm−2 s−1. A simple order-of-magnitude estimate of the damping rate of the relevant p modes allows us to put an observational constraint on the damping of p modes and shows that leakage into the overlying coronal atmosphere might be able to account for a significant fraction of p-mode damping.  相似文献

The peculiar galaxy NGC 4650 A (α=12h 42m. 1; = δ—40° 26′; 1950·0) has been studied by means of direct and spectral observations with the ESO 3·6-m telescope. It is interpreted as a prolate, elliptical galaxy surrounded by a warped ring of H II regions, dust and stars. The distance is 47 Mpc (H 0=55 km s−1 Mpc−1). The ring is seen nearly edge-on (inclination 85°) and it rotates. It has a diameter of about 21 kpc and is bluer than the elliptical galaxy for which the (M/L v) ratio is ∼12 in solar units. The observed configuration may be the result of interaction with the nearby galaxy, NGC 4650.  相似文献

The distribution of pairwise distances f(l) for different dependences r(z) of the metric distance is used to reveal inhomogeneities in the spatial distribution of 201 long (T 90>2s) gamma-ray bursts with measured redshifts z. For a fractal set with dimensionality D, this function behaves asymptotically as f(l) ∼ l D−1 for small l. Signs of fractal behavior with dimensionality D = 2.2–2.5 show up in all the models considered for the spatial distribution of the gamma-ray bursts. Several spatially distinct groups of gamma-ray bursts are identified. The group with equatorial coordinates ranging from 23h56m to 0h49m and δ from +19° to +23° with redshifts of 0.81–0.94 is examined separately.  相似文献
