The fundamental premises concerning the existence of a universal basic distribution describing the initial mass functions (IMFs) of various astronomical objects on scales from brown dwarfs to clusters of galaxies are considered. This distribution has the form dNM?2dM, where M is the mass of an object and N the number of objects with a given mass. It is shown that, at least for objects forming as a result of fragmentation (e.g., stars, star clusters), the basis of this distribution may correspond to a white-noise model. The classical problem of the formation of the IMF for stars is discussed in this context, incuding the relationship between the mass function of protostellar clouds and the stellar IMF. The main factors determining the mass functions of galaxies and galaxy clusters are also considered.  相似文献

Numerical simulations are used to investigate the possibility of determining the physical properties of young star-forming complexes by finding the global minimum of a so-called deviation functional, which assigns each evolutionary model for a stellar population a number characterizing the deviation of the observed photometric properties from their model values. The deviation functional is calculated using a grid of evolutionary models computed at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The parameters of the initial mass function (IMF) and the age corresponding to the global minimum of the deviation functional are strongly correlated with the IMF and age of the test model. The accuracy of the parameters of the IMF and the age are related to the random errors of the colors of the test models and the number of input parameters. A special series of numerical simulations is used to demonstrate the possibility of using the deviation functional to determine the interstellar extinction and the fraction of Lyman photons that do not contribute to the ionization of gas in a star-forming complex. The simulation results can be used to assess the accuracy of the IMF parameters and ages of young star-forming complexes based on the observational data available.  相似文献

The dynamics of the dust and gas in the tidal region of the M81 galaxy group have been analyzed, and the drift of the dust relative to the gas has been estimated, including the drift due to the action of radiation pressure from stars in M81. It is concluded that a large fraction of the gas in the tidal region is in the form of ionized hydrogen HII that shields the observedHI gas from the extragalactic Lyman continuum: the observed atomic gas could be only 10% of the total mass of gas. Only then it is possible to satisfactorily explain the excess dust abundance, which exceeds the Galactic value by a factor of six. By analogy, extended HI disks in galaxies with sizes appreciably larger than the stellar disks could be surrounded by HII envelopes with a comparable or greater mass. Such disks could play an important role in supporting prolonged star formation in galaxies with extended HI disks. Associated observational manifestations are discussed. Such HII envelopes outside HI disks could be detectable in absorption in Ly α and lines of ions of heavy elements.  相似文献

Usingthe “Scenario Machine” (a specialized numerical code formodeling the evolution of large ensembles of binary systems), we have studied the physical properties of rapidly rotating main-sequence binary stars (Be stars) with white-dwarf companions and their abundance in the Galaxy. The calculations are the first to take into account the cooling of the compact object and the effect of synchronization of the rotation on the evolution of Be stars in close binaries. The synchronization time scale can be shorter than the main-sequence lifetime of a Be star formed during the first mass transfer. This strongly influences the distribution of orbital periods for binary Be stars. In particular, it can explain the observed deficit of short-period Be binaries. According to our computations, the number of binary systems in the Galaxy containing a Be star and white dwarf is large: 70–80% of all Be stars in binaries should have degenerate dwarf companions. Based on our calculations, we conclude that the compact components in these systems have high surface temperatures. Despite their high surface temperatures, the detection of white dwarfs in such systems is hampered by the fact that the entire orbit of the white dwarf is embedded in the dense circumstellar envelope of the primary, and all the extreme-UV and soft X-ray emission of the compact object is absorbed by the Be star’s envelope. It may be possible to detect the white dwarfs via observations of helium emission lines of Be stars of not very early spectral types. The ultraviolet continuum energies of these stars are not sufficient to produce helium line emission. We also discuss numerical results for Be stars with other evolved companions, such as helium stars and neutron stars, and suggest an explanation for the absence of Be-black-hole binaries.  相似文献

A new method for determining the physical parameters, ionizing Lyman continua (Lyc) and chemical compositions of HII regions in blue compact dwarf galaxies is developed. We propose our modified NLEHII method, which is independent on the initial mass function (IMF) for the determination of the Lyc spectra of the ionizing nuclei of HII regions. This method is based on the assumptions of ionization-recombination and thermal equilibria in the HII regions. It is used to calculate the Lyc spectra for optimization photoionization models (OPhMs) of HII regions in an iterative way, since the Lyc spectrum depends on parameters that can be found from photoionization modeling. We apply this method to determine the chemical composition of an HII region in the blue compact dwarf galaxy SBS 0940+544 and, in particular, the helium mass fraction Y. The conditions for the acceleration of the spatial motions of stars by close-binary supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in galactic nuclei are analyzed in order to derive the velocity distribution for stars ejected from galaxies by such black holes. A close binary system consisting of two SMBHs in circular orbits was subject to a spherically symmetrical “barrage” of solar-mass stars with various initial velocities. The SMBHs were treated as point objects with Newtonian gravitational fields. Models with binary component-mass ratios of 1, 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001 were studied. The results demonstrate the possibility of accelerating neutron stars, stellar-mass black holes, and degenerate dwarfs to velocities comparable to the relative orbital velocities of the binary-SMBH components. In the stage when the binary components are merging due to the action of gravitational-wave radiation, this velocity can approach the speed of light. The most massive binary black-holes (M ? 109M) can also accelerate main-sequence stars with solar or subsolar masses to such velocities.  相似文献

The results of [O/Na] abundance modelling in globular clusters NGC 2808 and NGC 6752 are presented. An evolutionary scenario that is able to reproduce the characteristic observational peculiarities of the [O/Na] distribution function for the stars is proposed, which assumes that the source of the observed chemical anomalies is slow winds from massive rotating stars. The peculiarities of the chemical compositions of globular clusters can be explained in amodel with partialmixing of the stellar-wind material and the surrounding interstellar gas; i.e., second-generation stars are born in the vicinity of individual massive first-generation stars, from the heterogeneously distributed material ejected from their surfaces.  相似文献

The color indices of the Sun in the u vby system are calculated using the spectral energy distribution of Lockwood, Tug, and White. This allows errors in the absolute calibration to be excluded from the calculated color indices. The normal position of the Sun on the (v-b)?(b-y) and (v-y)?(b-y) color-color diagrams for early G stars testifies to the absence of any significant peculiarities in the Sun compared to other stars of similar spectral type. These diagrams can provide a useful tool in searches for candidate solar analogues among faint stars.  相似文献

The single region of ongoing star formation in the galaxy IC 1613 has been observed in order to reveal the nature of compact emission-line objects at the edges of two shells in the complex, identified earlier in Hα line images. The continuum images show these compact objects to be stars. Detailed spectroscopic observations of these stars and the surrounding nebulae were carried out with an MPFS spectrograph mounted on the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory. The resulting stellar spectra were used to determine the spectral types and luminosity classes of the objects. Of star we identified the only object of this spectral type in IC 1613. The results of optical observations of the multishell complex are compared to 21-cm radio observations. The shells harboring the stars at their boundaries constitute the most active part of the star-forming region. There is evidence that shocks have played an important role in the formation of the shells.  相似文献

An analysis of the basic parameters of a sample of radio and X-ray pulsars that are members of close binary systems is used to separate them into several families according to the nature of the pulsar companions and the previous evolution of the systems. To quantitatively describe the main parameters of close binaries containing neutron stars, we have performed numerical modeling of their evolution. The main driving forces of the evolution of these systems are the nuclear evolution of the donor, the magnetically coupled and radiation-induced stellar winds of the donor, and gravitational-wave radiation. We have considered donors that are low-mass stars in various stages of their evolution, nondegenerate helium stars, and degenerate stars. The systems studied are either the products of the normal evolution of close binaries with large initial component-mass ratios or result from inelastic collisions of old neutron stars with single and binary low-mass, main-sequence stars in the dense cores of globular clusters. The formation of single millisecond pulsars requires either the dynamical disruption of a low-mass (?0.1M) donor or its complete evaporation under the action of the X-ray radiation of the millisecond pulsar. The observed properties of binary radio pulsars with eccentric orbits combined with the bimodal spatial-velocity distribution of single radio pulsars suggest that it may be possible to explain the observed rotational and spatial motions of all radio pulsars as a result of their formation in close binaries. In this case, neutron stars formed from massive single stars or the components of massive wide binaries probably cannot acquire the high spatial velocities or rapid rotation rates that are required for the birth of a radio pulsar.  相似文献

We consider the effect of binarity of young stars on the spectral energy distribution of the IR radiation from circumstellar dust. The formation of a common dust envelope in a binary system with a low-mass secondary component is strongly affected by the disk wind from the secondary. The small velocities in peripheral areas of the wind are such that it can be partially or entirely captured by the primary, even when the distance between the components is up to several astronomical units. As a result, an envelope with a rather complex spatial and kinematic structure is formed. Its mass is many orders of magnitude smaller than that of the accretion disk around the binary. However, the thermal radiation emitted by dust particles of the envelope can be comparable to the total radiation of the accretion disk. This result is discussed in the context of the deficit at near-IR wavelengths (2–10µm) in current models for accretion disks around young stars.  相似文献

We determine the abundances of Pr and Nd in the atmospheres of magnetic and non-magnetic chemically peculiar stars from the lines of rare earth elements in the first and second ionization states. The computations for the magnetic stars take into account the influence of the magnetic field on line formation. We studied the influence of errors in the stellar-atmosphere parameters and the atomic parameters of the spectral lines on the accuracy of abundance determinations. Within the derived accuracy, ionization equilibrium is satisfied in the atmospheres of non-pulsating magnetic and non-magnetic stars (so that abundances derived separately from lines of first and second ions agree). For all the pulsating magnetic (roAp) stars studied, the abundances derived from lines of second ions are 1.0 to 1.7 dex higher than those derived from first ions. The violation of ionization equilibrium in the atmospheres of pulsating stars is probably due to, first, considerable enrichment of Pr and Nd in the uppermost atmospheric layers, and second, a higher location for the layer of enhanced elemental abundance in roAp stars than in non-pulsating stars. Two objects from the list of non-pulsating magnetic stars, HD 62140 and HD 115708, exhibit anomalies of their Pr and Nd lines characteristic of roAp stars. The differences in the rare earth anomalies for the pulsating and non-pulsating peculiar stars can be used as a selection criterion for candidate roAp stars.  相似文献

We present a comparative analysis of the atmospheric abundances of red giants in the vicinity of open clusters. The atmospheric parameters, atmospheric abundances, masses, ages, Galactic velocities, and elements of the Galactic orbits are derived for all the studied stars. We have discovered high metal abundances (close to 0.3dex) for five stars, which we classify as super-metal-rich stars. Several stars have lower [Na/Fe] than normal red giants with similar atmospheric parameters. The kinematic characteristics of these stars are somewhat different from those for objects in the Galactic thin disk. We suggest that the observed effect can be explained by inhomogeneity of the chemical composition of gas-dust clouds, which could be due to different rates of SNe II supernovae in different regions of the Galaxy.  相似文献

The observed mass distribution for the compact remnants of massive stars (neutron stars and black holes) and its relationship to the possible mechanism of ejection of the envelopes of type II and Ib/c supernovae are analyzed. The observed lack of compact remnants with masses 1.5–3 M suggests a magneto-rotational mechanism for the supernovae, and a soft equation of state for neutron stars with limiting masses near 1.5 M . The observed properties of Wolf-Rayet stars and relativistic objects in close binary systems are analyzed. The final masses M CO f for the carbon-oxygen cores of WR stars in WR + O binaries are calculated taking into account the radial loss of matter via stellar wind, which depends on the mass of the star. The analysis includes new data on the clumpy structure of WR winds, which appreciably decreases the required mass-loss rates $\dot M_{WR}$ for the WR stars. The masses M CO f lie in the range (1–2)M –(20–44)M and have a continuous distribution. The masses of the relativistic objects M x are 1–20M and have a bimodal distribution: the mean masses for neutron stars and black holes are 1.35 ± 0.15M and 8–10M , respectively, with a gap from 2–4M in which no neutron stars or black holes are observed in close binaries. The mean final CO-core mass is $\overline M _{CO}^f = 7.4 - 10.3M_ \odot$ , close to the mean mass for the black holes. This suggests that it is not only the mass of the progenitor that determines the nature of the relativistic object, but other parameters as well-rotation, magnetic field, etc. One SB1R Wolf-Rayet binary and 11 suspected WR + C binaries that may have low-mass companions (main-sequence or subgiant M-A stars) are identified; these could be the progenitors of low-mass X-ray binaries with neutron stars and black holes.  相似文献

In dynamical models for open clusters, virial equilibrium is not achieved over the violent relaxation time scale τvr. The stars form an equilibrium distribution in (?, ?ζ, l) space, where ? and l are the energy and angular momentum per unit stellar mass in the combined field of the Galaxy and cluster and ?ζ is the energy of motion perpendicular to the Galactic plane per unit mass of cluster stars in the gravitational field of the Galaxy. This distribution of stars changes little when tvr. The stellar phase-space distribution corresponding to this type of equilibrium and the regular cluster potential vary periodically (or quasi-periodically) with time. This phase-space equilibrium is probably possible due to an approximate balance in the stellar transitions between phase-space cells over times equal to the oscillation period for the regular cluster field.  相似文献

A master catalog of stellar proper motions in the field of the Pleiades young open cluster has been created based on data adopted from 12 catalogs. A total of 340 likely cluster members are identified, 80% with linear-velocity components in the plane of the sky estimated to better than 0.7 km/s. The average radial and tangential motions are analyzed. No rotation of the cluster or expansion or compression of the cluster as a whole or of its parts was found. The dispersion of the residual velocities does not depend on the masses of the stars, as is demonstrated by an absence of mass segregation in the spatial distribution of the stars in the cluster. Most of the stellar orbits in the cluster are strongly elongated.  相似文献

We analyze the Na, Mg, Al, and Si abundances in the atmospheres of more than 40 stars, includingred giants of different spectral subgroups (normal red giants, mild and classical barium stars) and several supergiants. All these elements exhibit abundance excesses, with the overabundance increasing with the star’s luminosity. The dependence of the overabundances for each of these elements on the luminosity (or log g) is the same for all the spectral subgroups, testifying to a common origin: they are all products of hydrogen burning in the NeNa and MgAl cycles that have been dredged up from the stellar interiors to the outer atmospheric layers by convection that gradually develops during the star’s evolution from the main sequence to the red-giant stage. The sodium abundances derived for several stars are lower than for other stars with similar atmospheric parameters. The ages and kinematic characteristics of these two groups of stars suggest that they probably belong to different stellar generations.  相似文献

This paper continues a study of the photometric activity of UX Ori stars in the optical and near-infrared (JHKLM bands) initiated in 2000. For comparison, the list of program stars contains two Herbig Ae stars that are photometrically quiet in the optical: MWC480 andHD179218. Fadings ofUXOri stars in the optical (V band) due to sporadic increases of the circumstellar extinction are also observed in the infrared (IR), but with decreasing amplitude. Two stars, RR Tau and UX Ori, displayed photometric events when V -band fadings were accompanied by an increase in IR fluxes. Among the two Herbig Ae stars that are photometrically quiet in the optical, MWC 480 proved to be fairly active in the IR. Unlike the UX Ori stars, the variation amplitude of MWC 480 increases from the J band to the M band. In the course of the observations, no deep fadings in the IR bands were detected. This indicates that eclipses of the program stars have a local nature, and are due to extinction variations in the innermost regions of the circumstellar disks. The results presented testify to an important role of the alignment of the circumstellar disks relative to the direction towards the observer in determining the observed IR variability of young stars.  相似文献
