The response of deltaic emergent marsh vegetation to increases in precipitation was examined over a 14-mo period at three sites in the lower Nueces Estuary in south Texas. At all three sites, significant changes in plant biomass, percent cover, and allocation of aboveground and belowground tissues were associated with more than double the rainfall in late winter and early spring 1992 compared to the previous year and the 50-yr average for this region. Water column salinities, which ranged from 10‰ to 35‰ at all three sites in 1991, remained below 10‰ through August 1992. Significant changes in marsh vegetative structure included decreases in bare space, increases in the percent cover and aboveground biomass of a relatively less salt tolerant halophytes (Borrichia frutescens), and significant increases in root:shoot ratios inB. frutescens, Batis maritima andSuaeda linearis (inSalicornia virginica root:shoot ratios decreased significantly). Higher precipitation generally led to an overall increase in the biomass of most marsh perennials, but these increases were not statistically significant. For one species,Lycium carolinianum, additional rainfall extended its growing season through August 1992, 2 mo longer than in the previous year. The expansion (+58%) ofB. frutescens at one site was also coincident with the significant loss ofB. maritima, whose cover decreased nearly 20%. In an ecological context, these responses suggest that precipitation events in arid environments may be considered a major physical disturbance that can result in large changes in the composition and relative abundance of emergent vascular plants over a relatively short period. The long-term significance of these changes is unknown and demonstrates the value of ecological studies that are conducted over several years for a more complete understanding of the dynamic processes that regulate marsh productivity.  相似文献

Populations of the American horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) differ in broad areas of their biology. We observed a non-harvested, marked Florida Gulf coast population during their spring spawning (March–May) in 11 years across a 17-year period (1992–2009). Long-term changes occurred in the number of spawning pairs: the population was stable from 1992 to 2000 but increased markedly after 2000. Short-term variation in numbers of spawning pairs, unpaired females, unpaired males, and operational sex ratios was explained by changes over the season and during each week of spring tides and by differences in actual (not predicted) maximum high tide height. Wind direction strongly affected tidal inundation and the number of spawning horseshoe crabs. Tagging individuals revealed that females returned to the nesting beach less often than males and most females were re-sighted only within 1 week of spring tides. No animals were seen across more than 6 years. Implications for management are discussed.  相似文献

The poly-metamorphic evolution of the Strangways Range granulitesof central Australia has been constrained by the phase stabilityrelationships of silica-saturated aluminous gneisses in KFMASH,in conjunction with geothermobarometry and equilibrium thermodynamics.Two contrasting, but overlapping, P-T paths are proposed. Thefirst (M1, at 1800 Ma) had an ‘anticlockwise’ P-Tpath (i.e., increasing P/T with time) and was terminated byisobaric cooling from 850–950 C, at 8–9 kb, toa stable crustal geotherm (<700C). In contrast, the secondgranulite metamorphism (M2–M5, suggested to be at 1400–1500Ma; Goscombe, 1992a) followed a ‘clockwise’ P-Tpath(i.e., decreasing P/T with time) terminated by decompressionand cooling to {small tilde}6–7 kb on a stable crustalgeotherm. M2–M5 occurred during reworking of M, granulitesby compressional orogenesis (Goscombe, 1992a). Initially, loadingand prograde metamorphism accompanied non-coaxial ductile shearand fold repetition (D2–D3). Prograde metamorphism wasfollowed by uplift and retrogression accompanying oblique transpressionand shear zone development while still under compression (D4–D5)(Goscombe, 1992a). The poly-metamorphic evolution indicatesthat ductile deformation reworked the M1 granulites in an orogenicepisode unrelated, both temporally and tectonically, to M1,metamorphism (Goscombe, 1992b).  相似文献

A combination of methods (infaunal grabs and sediment profile cameras) were used to monitor the response of Boston Harbor benthic habitats to reductions in wastewater associated with movement of the outfalls to the mouth of the harbor and then offshore. From 1992 to 2006, there was strong evidence that benthic habitats within Boston Harbor have shifted from a more anaerobic state to a more aerobic state and that these changes are directly related to changes in carbon loading associated with outfall placement and improvements in wastewater treatment. Over the period of 1992 to 2000, when the ocean outfall started to operate, there was >90% reduction in organic loadings to Boston Harbor from 11,400 to 1,200 t C per year. There were also corresponding decreases in primary production due to reduced nutrient loadings. The most apparent change in harbor benthos was the widespread increase in 1992 and subsequent decline by 2005 in Ampelisca spp. tube mats. The long-term increase in thickness of the apparent color redox potential discontinuity layer was consistent with reductions in organic loading and increases in bioturbation. The optimal organic loading for maintaining large areas of amphipod tube mats and high bioturbation rates was around 500 g C per square meter per year. Above and below this level, the area of tube mats in Boston Harbor declined.  相似文献

 High-pressure and high-temperature Raman spectra of CaGeO3 tetragonal garnet have been collected to 11.5 GPa and 1225 K, respectively, in order to investigate possible intrinsic anharmonic behaviour in this phase. The Raman peak positions were observed to vary linearly with pressure and temperature within the ranges studied, with the higher-energy peaks showing larger P- and T-induced shifts than the low energy modes. The observed T-induced shifts are similar to those reported for grossular and andradite, while the observed P-induced shifts are generally larger than those of aluminosilicate and MgSiO3 majorite garnets (Gillet et al. 1992; Rauch et al. 1996) due to the larger bulk modulus of CaGeO3 garnet. The observed mode shifts of CaGeO3 garnet were used to determine the isothermal and isobaric mode Grüneisen parameters for this phase. These parameters are similar in value to those reported previously for grossular and andradite (Gillet et al. 1992). The calculated intrinsic anharmonic parameters, a i , for CaGeO3 garnet were determined to be nonzero, indicating significant anharmonic behaviour for this phase. These values, which range from −3.8 × 10−5 K−1 to −1.3 × 10−5 K−1, are also similar to those reported for andradite and grossular, but smaller than those determined for pyrope (Gillet et al. 1992). Hence, we expect MgSiO3 majorite to show greater anharmonicity than the germanate analogue studied by us. The anharmonic parameters determined for CaGeO3 tetragonal garnet may now be introduced into quasiharmonic vibrational heat capacity models to account for the observed anharmonic behaviour.  Polygonal serpentine (PS) from selected serpentinite were studied using transmission electron microscopy. Fiber axis selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns and electron micrographs reveal orthogonal and monoclinic lizardite polytypes. The PS models by Chisholm (1992) and Baronnet et al. (1994) do not fit SAED measurements. Experimental results are matched with calculated diffraction geometry and intensities, as well as with simulated images, indicating inversion of the tetrahedral layer at sector boundaries. The structural relationships between chrysotile and PS are discussed. Two types of 30-sectored PS are distinguished. In “regular PS” the fiber axis is [100], in “helical PS” the fiber axis points into a [0] direction with large u value (u≫ν). Helical PS can be regarded as a lizardite analogue of helical chrysotile. We studied the macroinvertebrate fauna of a rocky shore in the freshwater tidal Hudson River during 1992–1994, the early years of the zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) invasion. The macroinvertebrate community was numerically dominated by chironomids, nematodes, oligochaetes, gastropods, zebra mussels, and planarian flatworms. The community was a mixture of species typical of stony warm water rivers and lake shores, freshwater generalists, and semiterrestrial species. Overall macroinvertebrate densities were moderate to low (2,800–14,600 m−2). Density was a strong function of season and elevation, with consistently low densities in the early spring and in the intertidal zone. This pattern suggests that physical harshness (alternating submergence and desiccation;ice and low temperatures) limits the distribution of invertebrates at this site. Zebra mussels occurred at our study site chiefly below the low tide mark, but only at moderate abundance (usually <1,000 m−2). A weak correlation between the densities of zebra mussels and those of other macroinvertebrates nonetheless suggests that the zebra mussel invasion may have affected community structure.  相似文献

The concentrations of atmospheric and dissolved carbonyl sulfide (COS) were measured during a Lagrangian study aboard the R/V Meteor in the northeast Atlantic Ocean, April/May 1992, and during a campaign on the research platform Nordsee in the German Bight (southeastern North Sea), September 1992. The arithmetic means and standard deviations of the COS saturation ratios were 1.27 ± 0.58 (northeast Atlantic) and 3.23 ± 0.73 (German Bight). Sea surface COS showed a pronounced diel cycle with highest concentrations in the late afternoon and a mean concentration amplitude of about 2. To account for this diel cycle, we analyze our results using a simple empirical model, which includes a zeroth order photoproduction constant, sea surface UV light intensity, and terms for hydrolysis removal and air-sea exchange. Fitted and observed COS concentrations agreed to within11 % (northeast Atlantic) and 14% (German Bight). The in situ COS photoproduction constants were (0.030 ± 0.008) fmol L–1 s–1 W–1 m2 in the northeast Atlantic (n = 8) and (0.17 ± 0.07) fmol L–1 s–1 W–1 m2 in the German Bight (n = 10). After normalization to the cloud cover corrected UV irradiance at 40 latitude, we obtained sea surface COS production rates of (0.034 ± 0.017) nmol L–1 d–1 in the northeast Atlantic and (1.62 ± 0.62) nmol L–1 d–1 in the German Bight. Currently available in situ photoproduction rates show a high degree of correlation with the UV absorbance (r 2 = 0.98, n = 4) and fluorescence (r 2 = 0.85, n = 4) of chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM). The regional differences between the COS productivity in the northeast Atlantic Ocean and the German Bight is attributed to the distribution pattern of CDOM optical properties.  相似文献

 Tracer diffusion coefficients of Mg in natural aluminosilicate garnets of composition Alm38Pyr50Gr10Sp2 and Alm73Pyr21Gr5Sp1 have been measured at 1 bar, 750-850° C and at 8.5 GPa, 1300° C by chemically depositing a salt layer enriched in 26Mg on the specially prepared surface of a garnet single crystal. Diffusion anneals at 1 atmosphere (101325 Pa) were carried out at a controlled f O 2 of ∼10−17.5 bars maintained by a flowing gas mix of CO-CO2. Annealing conditions were carefully chosen to avoid decomposition of garnet by redox reactions. High pressure anneals were carried out in a multianvil apparatus. Induced diffusion profiles (0.1–0.6 μm) were measured by an ion-microprobe with SIMS attachment. Diffusion coefficients at 1 atmosphere are in excellent agreement with extrapolation of data from high P-T experiments (Loomis et al. 1985; Chakraborty and Ganguly 1992) and also with the low temperature (750–900° C) dataset of Cygan and Lasaga (1985) if the diffusion coefficients are assumed to be proportional to f O 2 1/6. Such an f O 2 dependence, however, makes this dataset inconsistent with the recent dataset of Schwandt et al. (1995) on garnets of composition (Alm15Pyr72Gr13Sp0) unless a strong compositional dependence of Mg tracer diffusivity for Mg-rich garnets is invoked. The present experimental results show that such a compositional dependence is weak to non-existent for garnets with >38 mole percent almandine component. It is emphasized that the temperature dependence of diffusion coefficients at constant oxygen fugacities (activation energy ≈54 kcal/mol) are different from that along an oxygen fugacity buffer (activation energy ≈64.5 kcal/mol), as already pointed out by Chakraborty and Ganguly (1991). This distinction is of importance for modelling natural processes. The measurements at low temperatures either eliminate the need for, or greatly reduce the uncertainty of, extrapolation of laboratory data for modelling metamorphic processes. The high pressure results combined with those from Chakraborty and Ganguly (1992) and Loomis et al. (1985) indicate that pressure dependence of Mg tracer diffusivity in garnets is much stronger than that in forsterite (Chakraborty et al. 1994). This difference in pressure dependence of diffusivity may be caused by the difference in compressibility of the coordination polyhedra of Mg between olivines and garnets. Activation volumes of Mg tracer diffusion as high as 8 cm3/mol may be estimated using the present data in combination with earlier results. These data suggest that at a temperature of 1300° C, Mg tracer diffusion rates in garnets will decrease by an order of magnitude for every 100 km depth. The pressure effect will be stronger at lower temperatures. For calculations involving diffusion coefficients of garnets at high pressures (e.g. mantle xenoliths, eclogites) the pressure dependence of diffusivity must be taken into account. Structures and carbon isotopic compositions of biomarkers and kerogen pyrolysis products of a dolomite, a bituminous shale and an oil shale of the Kimmeridge Clay Formation (KCF) in Dorset were studied in order to gain insight into (i) the type and extent of water column anoxia and (ii) changes in the concentration and isotopic composition of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in the palaeowater column. The samples studied fit into the curve of increasing δ13C of the kerogen (δ13CTOC) with increasing TOC, reported by Huc et al. (1992). Their hypothesis, that the positive correlation between TOC and δ13CTOC is the result of differing degrees of organic matter (OM) mineralisation in the water column, was tested by measuring the δ13C values of primary production markers. These δ13C values were found to differ on average by only 1‰ among the samples, implying that differences in the extent of OM mineralisation cannot fully account for the 3‰ difference in δ13CTOC. The extractable OM in the oil shale differs from that in the other sediments due to both differences in maturity, and differences in the planktonic community. These differences, however, are not likely to have significantly influenced δ13CTOC either. All three sediments contain abundant derivatives of isorenieratene, indicating that periodically euxinia was extending into the photic zone. The sediments are rich in organic sulfur, as revealed by the abundant sulfur compounds in the pyrolysates. The prominence of C1-C3 alkylated thiophenes over n-alkanes and n-alkenes is most pronounced in the pyrolysate of the sediment richest in TOC. This suggests that sulfurisation of OM may have played an important role in determining the TOC-δ13CTOC relationship reported by Huc et al. (1992).  相似文献

A method has been developed to obtain the seismic moment tensor components by linear inversion of P waves recorded at regional distance for intermediate depth earthquakes. The seismic moment tensor is separated into double couple (DC) and compensated linear vector dipole (CLVD) parts. The method has been applied to four earthquakes (64<h<95 km) which occurred in the Malaga region (southern Spain). Solutions for the 1987 event show a percentage of CLVD of 20% with a short source time function and DC part corresponding to vertical motion. For the 1989, 1990 and 1992 earthquakes, percentages of CLVD between 0% and 6% have been found. Comparison with the results obtained in a previous study [Buforn et al., J. Seismol. 1 (1997) 113] by modelling of P waves using a DC model, shows that the use of a more general representation of the source (seismic moment tensor) gives a fit of data for the 1987 event.  相似文献

The Indian Antarctic station Maitri (geog. 70‡45’S, 11‡45’E, geom. 66‡.03S, 53‡.21E) occupies a sub-auroral location during magnetically quiet conditions(Σκρ < 10), but attains an auroral position when the auroral oval shifts equatorwards with increasing strength of magnetic disturbance. At the latter times, triangulation with 3 fluxgate magnetometers located at the vertices of a suitable triangle provides a means of monitoring mobile auroral ionospheric current systems over Maitri. The spacing between the magnetometers is typically kept at 75–200 km, keeping in mind the scale-sizes of ∼ 100 km for these mobile current systems. This work reports the results of two triangulation experiments carried out around Maitri in January 1992 and January 1995, both during Antarctic summer. The velocities estimated for pulsations of the Pc4 and Pc5 type were about 0.59 km/sec in the direction 102‡.7 east of due north, in the first case, and about 1–3 km/sec in the second case in the east-west direction. While several magnetometer arrays exist in the northern auroral regions (e.g., the Alberta array in Canada, the Alaskan array in the U.S. and the IMS Scandinavian array), there is no report in literature of triangulation through arrays in Antarctica, except for a one-day study by Neudegget al 1995 for ULF pulsations of the Pc1 and Pc2 type. The velocities obtained for the Pi3 type of irregular pulsations over Antarctica in the present study tally well with those obtained for northern auroral locations.  相似文献

Calculated phase equilibria among the minerals sodic amphibole, calcic amphibole, garnet, chloritoid, talc, chlorite, paragonite, margarite, omphacite, plagioclase, carpholite, zoisite/clinozoisite, lawsonite, pyrophyllite, kyanite, sillimanite, quartz and H2O are presented for the model system Na2O-CaO-FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O (NCFMASH), which is relevant for many greenschist, blueschist, amphibolite and eclogite facies rocks. Using the activity-composition relationships for multicomponent amphiboles constrained by Will and Powell (1992), equilibria containing coexisting calcic and sodic amphiboles could be determined. The blueschist–greenschist transition reaction in the NCFMASH system, for example, is defined by the univariant reaction sodic amphibole + zoisite = calcic amphibole + chlorite + paragonite + plagioclase (+ quartz + H2O) occurring between approximately 420 and 450 °C at 9.5 to 10 kbar. The calculated petrogenetic grid is a valuable tool for reconstructing the PT-evolution of metabasic rocks. This is shown for rocks from the island of Samos, Greece. On the basis of mineral and whole rock analyses, PT-pseudosections were calculated and, together with the observed mineral assemblages and reaction textures, are used to reconstruct PT-paths. For rocks from northern Samos, pseudomorphs after lawsonite preserved in garnet, the assemblage sodic amphibole-garnet-paragonite-chlorite-zoisite-quartz and the retrograde appearance of albitic plagioclase and the formation of calcic amphibole around sodic amphibole constrain a clockwise PT-path that reaches its thermal maximum at some 520 °C and 19 kbar. The derived PT-trajectory indicates cooling during exhumation of the rocks and is similar to paths for rocks from the western part of the Attic-Cycladic crystalline complex. Rocks from eastern Samos indicate lower pressures and are probably related to high-pressure rocks from the Menderes Massif in western Turkey. Based on daily, monthly, seasonal and annual precipitation, monthly duration and flood-affected area data from 1954 to 2007, we examined the absolute and relative change trends of rainfall and their effects on hazard intensity in Wenzhou city, China. The long-term trend of precipitation was studied by linear regression, moving average, cumulative anomaly and Z index methods, respectively. Our results show that there was no significant downward trend of annual precipitation. In contrast, there was significant decrease in autumn, July, mid-January and early June and significant increase in early January and late May, especially in late June. During 1954 and 2007, although significant fluctuation existed in the absolute value of precipitation, the relative changes of wet and dry were not significant compared with the average. The 10-year decrease in precipitation was 23.37 mm in autumn, 14.85 mm in July, 0.33 mm in mid-January and 6.87 mm in early June; while the 10-year increase was 0.35 mm in early January, 3.05 mm in late May and 8.57 mm in late June, respectively. Moreover, we found that 1964, 1966, 1977 and 1995 were the transition periods when the rainfall Z index was at peaks, the flood intensity was high, and the drought intensity was relatively low. On the other hand, 1958, 1968, 1971, 1980, 1989 and 1992 were the periods when the rainfall Z index was at valleys, the flood intensity was low, and the drought intensity was relatively high. Taken together, we demonstrated the obvious effects of precipitation changes on flood and drought intensities.  相似文献

Diffusion couples made from homogeneous gem quality natural pyrope and almandine garnets were annealed within graphite capsules under anhydrous conditions at 22–40 kbar, 1057–1400 °C in a piston-cylinder apparatus. The concentration profiles that developed in each couple were modeled to retrieve the self diffusion coefficients [D(I)] of the divalent cations Fe, Mg, Mn and Ca. Because of their usually low concentrations and lack of sufficient compositional change across the interface of the diffusion couples, only a few reliable data can be obtained for D(Ca) and D(Mn) from these experiments. However, nine sets of D(Fe) and D(Mg) data were retrieved in the above P-T range, and cast in the form of Arrhenian relation, D=D 0exp{−[Q(1 bar)+PΔV +]/RT}. The values of the activation energy (Q) and activation volume (ΔV +) depend on whether f O2 is constrained by graphite in the system C-O or held constant. For the first case, we have for Fe:Q(1 bar)=65,532±10,111 cal/mol, D 0=3.50 (±2.30)×10−5 cm2/s, ΔV +=5.6(±2.9) cm3/mol, and for Mg:Q(1 bar)=60,760±8,257 cal/mol, D 0=4.66 (±2.48)×10−5 cm2/s, ΔV +=5.3(±3.0) cm3/mol. Here the ΔV + values have been taken from Chakraborty and Ganguly (1992). For the condition of constant f O2, the Q values are ∼9 kcal lower and ΔV + values are ∼4.9 cm3/mol larger than the above values. Lower temperature extrapolation of the Arrhenian relation for D(Mg) is in good agreement with the Mg tracer diffusion data (D * Mg) of Chakraborty and Rubie (1996) and Cygan and Lasaga (1985) at 1 bar, 750–900 °C, when all data are normalized to the same pressure and to f O2 defined by graphite in the system C-O. The D * Mg data of Schwandt et al. (1995), on the other hand, are lower by more than an order of magnitude than the low temperature extrapolation of the present data, when all data are normalized to the same pressure and to f O2 defined by the graphite buffer. Comparison of the D(Fe), D(Mg) and D(Mn) data in the pyrope-almandine diffusion couple with those in the spessartine-almandine diffusion couple of Chakraborty and Ganguly (1992) shows that the self diffusion of Fe and Mn are significantly enhanced with the increase in Mn/Mg ratio; the enhancement effect on D(Mg) is, however, relatively small. Proper application of the self diffusion data to calculate interdiffusion coefficient or D matrix elements for the purpose of modeling of diffusion processes in natural garnets must take into account these compositional effects on D(I) along with the effects of thermodynamic nonideality, f O2, and pressure. This study investigates the impact of monthly Ganges–Brahmaputra river discharge variations on Bay of Bengal salinity and temperature during the period 1992–1999. The Ganges–Brahmaputra river discharge is characterized by a well-defined seasonal cycle with strong interannual variations. The highest/lowest yearly peak discharge occurs in summer 1998/summer 1992, with 1998 value amounting to twice that of 1992. This river discharge is then used to force an ocean general circulation model. Our main result is that the impact of these rivers on the variability of Bay of Bengal sea surface salinity is strong in the northern part, with excess run-off forcing fresh anomalies, and vice versa. Most of the years, the influence of the interannual variability of river discharge on the Bay salinity does not extend south of ~10°N. This stands in contrast with the available observations and is probably linked to the relatively coarse resolution of our model. However, the extreme discharge anomaly of 1998 is exported through the southern boundary of the Bay and penetrates the south-eastern Arabian Sea a few months after the discharge peak. In response to the discharge anomalies, the model simulates significant mixed-layer temperature anomalies in the northern Bay of Bengal. This has the potential to influence the climate of the area. From our conclusions, it appears necessary to use a numerical model with higher resolution (both on the horizontal and vertical) to quantitatively investigate the upper Bay of Bengal salinity structure.  相似文献

In deltaic marshes, mineral sediment promotes positive elevation change and counters subsidence and sea level rise. In many such marshes sediment deficits result in wetland loss. One new way to address sediment deficiency is to supply marshes with sediments in a slurry that deposits the sediment in a thin layer over a large area. The long-term effects of this strategy are poorly understood. In a rapidly submerging,Spartina alterniflora salt marsh, we tested how different amounts of sediment ameliorated the effects of sea level rise and subsidence over 7 yr (1992–1998). Sediment slurry enrichment likely affected plants and soils by two mechanisms. It increased elevation and soil bulk density, leading to increased plant vigor and soil condition. These effects were long lasting, such that by 1998 areas receiving moderate amounts of sediment (5–12 cm relative elevation) had better plant vigor and soil condition compared to areas not receiving sediment (55% cover versus 20%; bulk densities of 0.4–1.0 g cm−3 versus 0.2 g cm−3; 0 mM hydrogen sulfide versus > 1.0 mM). The sediment slurry also had high nutrient content, which resulted in a pulse of growth, especially in areas receiving the most sediment (areas > 12 cm relative elevation initially had >90% cover and canopy heights >1.6 m). This nutrient-induced growth spurt was short lived and faded after 3 yr, at which point the long lasting effects of increased elevation probably became the dominant factor promoting plant vigor and soil condition. Moderate levels of sediment generated the most beneficial and long lasting effects to the vegetation and soils. Seagrasses are critically important components of many marine coastal and estuarine ecosystems, but are declining worldwide. Spatial change in distribution of eelgrass,Zostera marina L., was assessed at Bahía San Quintín, Baja California, Mexico, using a map to map comparison of data interpreted from a 1987 Satellite Pour l'Observation de la Terre multispectral satellite image and a 2000 Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapping image. Eelgrass comprised 49% and 43% of the areal extent of the bay in 1987 and 2000, respectively. Spatial extent of eelgrass was 13% less (−321 ha) in 2000 than in 1987 with most losses occurring in subtidal areas. Over the 13-yr study period, there was a 34% loss of submerged eelgrass (−457 ha) and a 13% (+136 ha) gain of intertidal eelgrass. Within the two types of intertidal eelgrass, the patchy cover class (<85% cover) expanded (+250 ha) and continuous cover class (≥85% cover) declined (−114 ha). Most eelgrass losses were likely the result of sediment loading and turbidity caused by a single flooding event in winter of 1992–1993. Recent large-scale agricultural development of adjacent uplands may have exacerbated the effects of the flood. Oyster farming was not associated with any detectable losses in eelgrass spatial extent, despite the increase in number of oyster racks from 57 to 484 over the study period.  相似文献

The fractionation of boron isotopes between synthetic dravitic tourmaline and fluid was determined by hydrothermal experiments between 400 and 700°C at 200 MPa and at 500°C, 500 MPa. Tourmaline was crystallized from an oxide mix in presence of water that contained boron in excess. In one series of experiments, [B]fluid/[B]tour was 9 after the run; in another series it was 0.1. All experiments produced tourmaline as the sole boron-bearing solid, along with traces of quartz and talc. Powder XRD and Rietveld refinements revealed no significant amounts of tetrahedrally coordinated boron in tourmaline. 11B always preferentially fractionated into the fluid. For experiments where [B]fluid/[B]tour was 9, a consistent temperature-dependent boron isotope fractionation curve resulted, approximated by Δ11B(tour–fluid) = −4.20 · [1,000/T (K)] + 3.52; R 2 = 0.77, and valid from 400 to 700°C. No pressure dependence was observed. The fractionation (−2.7 ± 0.5‰ at 400°C; and −0.8 ± 0.5‰ at 700°C) is much lower than that previously presented by Palmer et al. (1992). Experiments where [B]fluid/[B]tour was 0.1 showed a significant larger apparent fractionation of up to −4.7‰. In one of these runs, the isotopic composition of handpicked tourmaline crystals of different size varied by 1.3‰. This is interpreted as resulting from fractional crystallization of boron isotopes during tourmaline growth due to the small boron reservoir of the fluid relative to tourmaline, thus indicating larger fractionation than observed at equilibrium. The effect is eliminated or minimized in experiments with very high boron excess in the fluid. We therefore suggest that values given by the above relation represent the true equilibrium fractionations.  相似文献

A catalog of maser spectra in the 1.35-cm water-vapor line towards the maser source NGC 2071 in a region of massive star formation is presented for 1994–2010. The observations were carried out using the 22-m antenna of the Pushchino Radio Astronomy Observatory with a spectral resolution of 0.101 km/s (0.0822 km/s after the end of 2005). Based on the data throughout the monitoring since 1980, two very different cycles of maser activity were found. The first (1980–1992) is characterized by high activity within a broad range of radial velocities. Emission at velocities near 7 km/s predominated in 1980–1986, and emission near 14–16 km/s, in 1987–1992. In 1997–2008, the maser intensity was appreciably lower than in the first activity cycle. Numerous flares of individual emission features were observed. Identifications based on VLA data show that strong flares took place in both maser sources, IRS1 and IRS3. Both sources demonstrated a low level of maser activity during essentially the same epochs (1977, 1995–1997, and the close of 2009 through the beginning of 2010), although the sources are separated by at least 2000 AU.  相似文献
