The Archean bedrock of the Ilomantsi area consists of narrow greenstone belts between dome-like granitoids. The main tectonic phases are isoclinal folding, dragging of isoclinal folds around subvertical axes and regional faulting. Conspicuous anomalies of As, Au, Mo and W were revealed in the course of regional geochemical mapping of till, which led to more detailed studies in Ilomantsi. The data presented in this study are based mainly on the results of 2960 till samples collected by light percussion drill at local scale (16 samples/km2), but also on the results of regional (1 sample/4 km2) and detailed (100–400 samples/km2) sampling and on rock samples collected from outcrops. The analytical methods most commonly used were emission spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrophotometry and spectrometry.The results indicate that the lowest part of the basal till is dominated by local debris and that the geochemistry of the till reflects well the underlying bedrock. The highest Au values exist near the contacts of tonalite and supracrustal rocks. Arsenic follows intimately the directions of faulting. The anomalous contents of W and Mo are restricted to the southern part of the 15-km2 Kuittila tonalite. Potassium, Na and Ca form conspicious anomalies in till, cutting both the supracrustal rocks and the granitoids. Local studies revealed in the Kuittila tonalite a notable network of Mo- and W-bearing quartz veins restricted to tensional zones of main fault directions, which are cut by gold-bearing shear zones and quartz vein nets. These shear zones are of en echelon type and they are silicified, sericitized, tournalinized, Na-depleted and partly carbonitized. The hosting tonalite is intensely biotitized. These metasomatic features of the bedrock can be correlated to the wider anomalies of K, Na and Ca in till. The implication is that significant migration of mobile elements has taken place in the bedrock of the study area and that, in places, gold has participated in these processes.  相似文献

The Hämeenkyrö batholith is a round-shaped plutonic body of an areal size of 147 km2. It is composed of calc-alkaline to alkaline rocks that intruded previously metamorphosed Svecofennian volcanogenic and sedimentary schists 1860 Ma ago. The Cu-W bearing tourmaline breccia of the Ylörvi deposit occurs in metavolcanic rocks close to the eastern contact of the batholith.The average sampling density in the batholith was 1 sample per km2, and 175 samples were analyzed for Cu, Au, Ag, Ni, Pb, Co, Zn, S by AAS for SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, FeO, MnO, MgO, CaO, Na2O, K2O, As, Sn and P by X-ray fluorescence. Mo and W were determined colorimetrically. Barth mesonorms were calculated for each sample and the rock type was determined according to Streckeisen's classification. Element distributions are displayed on contour maps.The rock types of the batholith exhibit an asymmetric concentric arrangement, the order from the center towards the margin being alkali-feldspar granite, syenogranite, monzogranite, quartz monzonite, quartz syenite, alkali-feldspar, quartz syenite, syenite and alkali-feldspar syenite. Anomalously high Cu, As, Sn, S, K2O and Na2O contents have been found at the eastern margin of the batholith in a N—S-trending zone, which is characterized by hydrothermal alteration phenomena, propylitization, tourmalinization and scapolitization. Three anomalous areas have been defined within this zone, one of them is associated with the Ylöjärvi deposit and the other two are regarded as exploration targets.  相似文献

The Cambro‐Ordovician Glenelg tectonic zone of western Victoria is a distinctive metamorphic‐igneous segment of the Delamerian Orogenic Belt comprising two northwest‐striking regional metamorphic segments of andalusite‐sillimanite type prograding towards an axial granitic batholith. The second of five deformations (D2) was most significant, producing isoclinal folds, transposition and a pervasive regional foliation (S2). Southwest of the central batholith, biotite to migmatite zones contain mainly quartzo‐feldspathic rock (turbiditic metagreywacke, quartzo‐feldspathic schist and migmatite), plus less common metaquartzite and calc‐silicate rocks and minor metapelite. Metagabbro, metadolerite and amphibolite typically have the chemistry of mid‐ocean ridge basalts. Serpentinite pods and sheets were tectonically introduced to low‐grade areas. Northeast of the central batholith, quartzo‐feldspathic rock occupies the sillimanite and migmatite zones exclusively, with a regional concentration of pegmatites adjacent to the zone boundary. Gross interleaving of quartzo‐feldspathic schist, migmatite, pegmatite and muscovite‐bearing granitic rock is characteristic. Peak metamorphic conditions of 550 MPa at 640°C leading to migmatite formation were established by D2 time and accompanied by tonalite‐granodiorite and pegmatite emplacement. Subsequently, the thermal high contracted to the northeast culminating in the more extensive syn‐, post‐D4 to pre‐D5 granitic magmatism.  相似文献

The calc-alkaline Ladakh batholith (NW Himalayas) was dated to constrain the timing of continental collision and subsequent deformation. Batholith growth ended when collision disrupted subduction of the Tethyan oceanic lithosphere, and thus the youngest magmatic pulse indirectly dates the collision. Both U-Pb ages on zircons from three samples of the Ladakh batholith and K-Ar from one subvolcanic dike sample were determined. Magmatic activity near Leh (the capital of Ladakh) occurred between 70 and 50 Ma, with the last major magmatic pulse crystallizing at ca. 49.8+/-0.8 Ma (2sigma). This was followed by rapid and generalized cooling to lower greenschist facies temperatures within a few million years, and minor dike intrusion took place at 46+/-1 Ma. Field observations, the lack of inherited prebatholith zircons, and other isotopic evidence suggest that the batholith is mantle derived with negligible crustal influence, that it evolved through input of fresh magma from the mantle and remelting of previously emplaced mantle magmatic rocks. The sedmimentary record indicates that collision in NW Himalaya occurred around 52-50 Ma. If this is so, the magmatic system driven by subduction of Tethys ended immediately on collision. The thermal history of one sample from within the Thanglasgo Shear Zone (TSZ) was determined by Ar-Ar method to constrain timing of batholith internal deformation. This is a wide dextral shear zone within the batholith, parallel to the dextral, N 30 degrees W-striking crustal-scale Karakoram Fault. Internal deformation of the batholith, taken up partly by this shear zone, has caused it to deviate from it regional WNW-ESE trend to parallel the Karakoram Fault. Microstructures and cooling history of a sample from the TSZ indicate that shearing took place before 22 Ma, implying that (1) the history of dextral shearing on NW-striking planes in northern Ladakh started at least 7 m.yr. before the <15 Ma Karakoram Fault, (2) shearing was responsible for deviation of the regional trend of the Ladakh batholith, and (3) dextral shearing occured within a zone apporximately 100 km wide that includes the Ladakh batholith and portions of the younger Karakoram batholith.  相似文献

New Applications of the Model of de Wijs in Regional Geochemistry   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
This paper is concerned with the lognormal, and its logbinomial approximation, in connection with a three-parameter version of the model of de Wijs. The three parameters are: overall average element concentration value (ξ), dispersion index (d), and apparent number of subdivisions of the environment (N). Multifractal theory produces new methods for estimating the parameters of this model. In practical applications, the frequency distribution of element concentration values for small rock samples is related to self-similar spatial variability patterns of the element in large regions or segments of the Earth's crust. The approach is illustrated by application to spatial variability of gold and arsenic in glacial till samples from southern Saskatchewan. It is shown that for these two elements the model of de Wijs is satisfied on a regional scale but degree of dispersion decreases rapidly toward the local, sample-size scale. Thus the apparent number of subdivisions (N) is considerably less than would be expected if degree of dispersion were to extend from regional to local scale. A random-cut variant of the model of de Wijs produces an empirical frequency distribution of relative element concentration values that can be related to random dispersion index  相似文献

About seven hundred gravity stations were established 2–3 miles apart over the Precambrian terrain of Singhbhum that lies between latitude 22° 15′ to 23°°15′N and longitude 85° to 87°E. Bouguer anomalies ranging from +4 to −62 mGal are found in the area. The observed Bouguer anomaly map was analyzed into regional and residual components. The residual anomaly map shows an excellent correlation with geology. The Singhbhum granite batholith is associated with several gravity lows. The residual anomaly map outlines nine plutonic granitic masses within the Singhbhum batholith. Negative residuals are also observed over some intrusive granites outside the batholith. Residual gravity highs are noted over the Dalma hill as well as over the Dhanjori lava complex on the eastern part of the Singhbhum batholith.Two-dimensional models suggestive of subsurface configuration of several major geologic units in the area are presented. These indicate that some of the plutonic granites within the Singhbhum batholith are of relatively large dimensions. The basin containing the Iron Ore Group of rocks to the west of the batholith, as well as the basin containing Singhbhum Group of rocks outside the Copper Belt thrust, may have sedimentary thicknesses of the order of 6–7 km. The Dalma lavas attain their maximum thickness of about 2.5 km in the form of a syncline, underneath which the Singhbhum Group of rocks is also found to be the thickest. The Copper Belt thrust, a major Precambrian fracture around the Singhbhum batholith, is moderately north-dipping near the surface but possibly attains a steeper slope at depth. The thrust appears to be quite deep seated. A threedimensional computer-based model for the Dhanjori lava—gabbro complex on the eastern part of the Singhbhum batholith has been deduced. Maximum thickness of these basic rocks is found to exist underneath a thin cap of granophyre. The geological implication of these results is discussed.Variation in the regional anomalies seems to be attributable to a mass deficiency under the Singhbhum batholith. The batholith may extend subsurfacially towards the north across the Copper Belt thrust. The northern tip of the batholith probably became dissected along the line of intersection of the two orogenic trends in the area and subsided. Over this subsided part, the Singhbhum Group of rocks was deposited at a later stage. Gravity data suggest a fairly large amount of subsidence in the area.  相似文献

Gneissic rocks that are basement to the Late Archean granites comprising much of the Wind River Range, west-central Wyoming, have been dated by the zircon U-Pb method using both conventional and ion microprobe techniques. A foliated hornblende granite gneiss member from the southern border of the Bridger batholith is 2670±13 Ma. Zircons from a granulite just north of the Bridger batholith are equant and faceted, a typical morphology for zircon grown under high grade metamorphic conditions. This granulite, which may be related to a second phase of migmatization in the area, is 2698±8 Ma. South of the Bridger batholith, zircons from a granulite (charnockite), which is related to an earlier phase of migmatization in the Range, yield a discordia with intercept ages of about 2.3 and 3.3 Ga. However, ion microprobe analyses of single zircon grains indicate that this rock contains several populations of zircon, ranging in age from 2.67 to about 3.8 Ga. Based on zircon morphology and regional geologic relationships, we interpret the data as indicating an age of ≃3.2 Ga for the first granulite metamorphism and migmatization. Older, possibly xenocrystic zircons give ages of ≃3.35, 3.65 and ≃3.8 Ga. Younger zircons grew at 2.7 and 2.85 Ga in response to events, including the second granulite metamorphism at 2.7 Ga, that culminated in the intrusion of the Bridger batholith and migmatization at 2.67 Ga. These data support the field and petrographic evidence for two granulite events and provide some temporal constraints for the formation of continental crust in the Early and Middle Archean in the Wyoming Province.  相似文献

The clay mineral composition of a number of Saalian till samples from The Netherlands shows a large variation in smectite and illite abundances. The samples were selected according to their source area, as inferred from coarse erratic components. Specimens containing primarily rock fragments indicative of East and East-Central Baltic areas are associated with no or low smectite percentages in their clay fractions. Those with mainly flint and rock fragments indicative of the West Baltic areas have high smectite contents in the clay. In general the smectite-rich material is found in the lower portions of the Saalian till bed, whereas the smectite-poor occurs in the upper portions. The linkage between very fine and coarse till components in the upper smectite-free parts of the till suggests that this entire till has been subjected to englacial transport over distances of at least 1000 km.  相似文献

The trans-Himalayan Ladakh batholith is a result of arc magmatism caused by the northward subduction of the Tethyan oceanic lithosphere below the edge of the Eurasian plate. The batholith dominantly consists of calc-alkaline I-type granitoids which are ferromagnetic in nature with the presence of magnetite as the principal carrier of magnetic susceptibility. The mesoscopic and magnetic fabric are concordant and generally vary from WNW–ESE to ENE–WSW for different intrusions of ferromagnetic granites in different parts of the batholith. Strike of magnetic fabric is roughly parallel with the regional trend of the Ladakh batholith in the present study area and is orthogonal to the direction of India-Eurasia collision. In Khardungla and Changla section, the magnetic fabric is distributed in a sigmoidal manner. It is inferred that this sigmoidal pattern is caused by shearing due to transpression induced by oblique convergence between the two plates. U–Pb zircon geochronology of a rhyolite from the southern parts of the batholith gives a crystallization age of 71.7 ± 0.6 Ma, coeval with ~68 Ma magmatism in the northern parts of the batholith. The central part of the batholith is characterized by S-type two-mica granites, which gives much younger age of magmatism at 35.5 ± 0.5 Ma. The magnetic fabric of these two-mica granites is at a high angle to the regional trend of the batholith. It is proposed that these two-mica granites were emplaced well after the cessation of subduction and arc magmatism, along fractures that developed perpendicular to the regional strike of the batholith due to shearing.  相似文献

Rocks of the Archaean Kuhmo greenstone belt and the fine fraction (− 63 μm) of 236 till samples were analysed for Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn and Fe mainly with the AAS method. The influence of bedrock upon the lithology and geochemistry of till is clear, and can be seen immediately at the proximal contact. Expected trace-metal contents for the fine fraction of till were calculated using the average metal contents of the rock types and the proportions of these rock types in the till (2–6 cm pebbles). The expected values were then compared with the measured values in the fine fraction of till at the same locality. This approach seems effective for lithological comparison between various grain-size fractions of till.In general, the measured metal contents are clearly lower than expected. This indicates that the proportion of the greenstone material in the fine fraction of the till is smaller than in the coarse fraction. Correlations between measured and expected values of individual trace metals as well as their correlation with the different rock types are low, in most cases indicating inconsistent variation in the lithology of the coarse and fine fraction of the till. Good positive correlations between the number of pebbles of mafic metavolcanics and contents of Cu, Co, Mn and Fe in the fine fraction of till show that the influence of these rocks on the trace-element geochemistry of the tills in the study area is most significant as might be expected.  相似文献

The Mazowe group of mines (principal mines Mazowe, Bernheim and Stori's Golden Shaft) is situated within the Harare-Bindura-Shamva greenstone belt of the Zimbabwean Archaean craton, west of the Chinamora batholith. Gold mineralization in the form of quartz (±sulfide) reefs is structurally controlled in reverse shear zones that dip moderately north at Mazowe mine, and conjugate steep strike-slip shear zones striking WNW (dextral) and NE (sinistral) at Bernheim and Stori's Golden Shaft mines. The syn-mineralization deformation (D2/3) in all the mines has a northerly shortening direction. This deformation is compatible with the regional late Archaean D2/3 event, which agrees with late Archaean ages determined for the host rocks and for the mineralization. The mineralization cannot be related to any major regional scale shear zones, and it is incompatible with strains related to the intrusion of either the Chinamora batholith or internal granitoid suites. These observations show that significant gold deposits can form in relatively minor deformation events, unrelated to either major shear zones or granitoid intrusions. Regional‐scale, high‐resolution terrain data permit the study of landforms across south‐central Ontario, where the bed of the former Laurentide Ice Sheet is well exposed and passes downflow from irregular topography on Precambrian Shield highlands to flat‐lying Palaeozoic carbonate bedrock, and thick (50 to >200 m) unconsolidated sediment substrates. Rock drumlins and megagrooves are eroded into bedrock and mega‐scale glacial lineations (MSGL) occur on patchy streamlined till residuals in the Algonquin Highlands. Downflow, MSGL pass into juxtaposed rock and drift drumlins on Palaeozoic bedrock and predominantly till‐cored drumlins in areas of thick drift. The Lake Simcoe Moraines, now traceable for more than 80 km across the Peterborough drumlin field (PDF), form a distinct morphological boundary: downflow of the moraine system, drumlins are larger, broader and show no indication of subsequent reworking by the ice, whereas upflow of the moraines, a higher degree of complexity in bedform pattern and morphology is distinguished. Discrete radial and/or cross‐cutting flowset terminate at subtle till‐cored moraine ridges downflow of local topographic lows, indicating multiple phases of late‐stage ice flow with strong local topographic steering. More regional‐scale flow switching is evident as NW‐orientated bedforms modify drumlins south of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and radial flowset emanate from areas within the St. Lawrence and Ottawa River valleys. Most of the drumlins in the PDF formed during an early, regional drumlinization phase of NE–SW flow that followed the deposition of a thick regional till sheet. These were subsequently modified by local‐scale, topographically controlled flows that terminate at till‐cored moraines, providing evidence that the superimposed bedforms record dynamic ice (re)advances throughout the deglaciation of south‐central Ontario. The patterns and relationships of glacial landform distribution and characteristics in south‐central Ontario hold significance for many modern and palaeo‐ice sheets, where similar downflow changes in bed topography and substrate lithology are observed.  相似文献

New40Ar-39Ar thermochronological results from the Ladakh region in the India-Asia collision zone provide a tectono-thermal evolutionary scenario. The characteristic granodiorite of the Ladakh batholith near Leh yielded a plateau age of 46.3 ± 0.6 Ma (2σ). Biotite from the same rock yielded a plateau age of 44.6 ± 0.3 Ma (2σ). The youngest phase of the Ladakh batholith, the leucogranite near Himya, yielded a cooling pattern with a plateau-like age of ∼ 36 Ma. The plateau age of muscovite from the same rock is 29.8 ±0.2 Ma (2σ). These ages indicate post-collision tectono-thermal activity, which may have been responsible for partial melting within the Ladakh batholith. Two basalt samples from Sumdo Nala have also recorded the post-collision tectono-thermal event, which lasted at least for 8 MY in the suture zone since the collision, whereas in the western part of the Indus Suture, pillow lava of Chiktan showed no effect of this event and yielded an age of emplacement of 128.2 ±2.6 Ma (2σ). The available data indicate that post-collision deformation led to the crustal thickening causing an increase in temperature, which may have caused partial melting at the base of the thickened crust. Bismuth has been determined in 74 rocks from a differentiated tholeiitic dolerite, two calc-alkaline batholith suites and in 66 mineral separates from one of the batholiths. Average bismuth contents, weighted for rock type, of the Great Lake (Tasmania) dolerite, the Southern California batholith and the Idaho batholith are, 32, 50 and 70 ppb respectively. All three bodies demonstrate an enrichment of bismuth in residual magmas with magmatic differentiation. Bismuth is greatly enriched (relative to the host rock) in the calcium-rich accessory minerals, apatite and sphene, but other mineral analyses show that a Bi-Ca association is of little significance to the magmatic geochemistry of bismuth. Most of the bismuth, in the Southern California batholith at least, occurs in a trace mineral phase (possibly sulfides) present as inclusions in the rock-forming minerals.  相似文献

The geochronology and genesis of the Qingyang batholith were investigated using40Ar/39Ar and Rb-Sr isotopic techniques. The Qingyang is a composite batholith consisting of two major rock types granodiorite and granite in the Yangtze fold belt.40Ar/39Ar spectra for biotite and amphibole separates are internally concordant. The concordance of the minerals and spectra indicate no thermal disturbance of the ages, and rapid cooling of the rocks. The granodiorite has an age of 137.6±1.4 m.y. and the granite 122.7±1.2 m.y. Whole-rock Rb-Sr analysis yields ages consistent with the40Ar/39Ar dates. Thus, the Qingyang batholith was formed in two major stages in the late Jurassic and early Cretaceous. The batholith is not Triassic as was previously proposed. Special40Ar/39Ar analysis of two granodiorite samples has precisely documented a 1.0 m.y. apparent age difference between these samples. Several factors could account for this difference, but different emplacement times seem most convincible. The granodiorite and granite show little variation in initial87Sr/86Sr ratio (about 0.7085). The high initial Sr ratios suggest that the magmas were formed by anatexis of older crustal materials.  相似文献

The Mistastin Lake meteorite crater lies completely within a batholith composed of mangerite and adamellite with lenses of anorthosite and is located in central Labrador. The multivariate statistical technique of correspondence analysis was used to summarize the relationships between the different rock units for the trace elements Nb, Zr, Y, Sr, Rb, Th, Pb, Zn, Cu, Ni. The samples of impact melt form a linear array of points on a factor plot joining the anorthosite samples to the mangerite and adamellite samples. This indicates that the various melt samples can be formed as a result of the complete fusion of different proportions of anorthosite and granitic rocks. A least-squares mixing model utilizing the average trace element composition of the four rock types indicates that an average melt rock can be formed by mixing 60% anorthosite, 38% mangerite and 2% adamellite. An isochron obtained on the combined mangerite and adamellite units of the batholith gives an age of 1347 ±15 m.y. (1σ) with an initial ratio of 0.7082 ± 0.0003. The anorthosite samples plot below the isochron and the melt rocks fall along a mixing line joining the locus of anorthosite points to an average granite sample on the isochron. This is a further indication that the melt was formed by melting of anorthosite and granitic rocks that form the local geological environment.  相似文献

The glacial sediments of north Norfolk are a type site for subglacial deforming bed sediments. This investigation focussed on subglacial shear zone process at the field and thin section scale, in order to understand subglacial processes, as well as considering the implications for regional stratigraphies. The sandy and chalky tills from three sites (within 1 km) at Weybourne, Norfolk, showed evidence for subglacial deformation associated with simple shear, producing extension, compression and rotation. It was demonstrated how these processes interacted to cause chalk fragmentation and predictable fabric strengths (dependant on sorting and grain size). It is suggested that the ‘Marly Drift’ is a diachronous unit, and the resultant stratigraphy at Weybourne reflects one deformation till, resulting from a series of ice advances, but with a lithology derived from the local chalk bed rock (with some far travelled erratics), which have undergone different degrees of chalk fragmentation reflecting the nature and duration of the subglacial deformation.  相似文献

Since the late part of the 19th century prospecting for W in the western world has been based mainly on the mechanical concentration of heavy minerals in sediments (panning), followed by visual and chemical analyses of the heavy-mineral fraction. Since the early 1970's, W prospecting in Sweden has been based on the use of heavy-mineral concentrates from till.In tests performed in a scheelite-mineralized area in the Bergslagen area of central Sweden, samples from the A- and C-horizon of the podzolic profile have been collected along grid lines across the ore as well as down-ice along the direction of final glacial transport from the ore. The purpose of the study was to test which sample types should be used in geochemical prospecting for W in the region.The results show that all the sample types studied can be used in geochemical prospecting for W in southern central Sweden. The heavy-mineral concentrate of till is primarily recommended for use at a regional and local scale. Humus is given the lowest priority of the sample types studied because of the poor analytical reproducibility for some samples with high values of W.  相似文献

The characteristics of ribbed moraines, with an emphasis on till geochemical prospecting, were studied in the area of Peräpohjola, southern Finnish Lapland. Percussion drilling, test pits and trenches were used for till sampling. The samples were partially extracted and then analysed using ICP-AES or GFAAS methods in the geolaboratory of the Geological Survey of Finland. The distribution of Au and Cu in fine fraction (<0.06 mm) of till in both horizontal and vertical dimensions showed that the uppermost part of the moraine ridges contained the highest metal contents. In the coarser fractions of till (0.06–0.5 and >2 mm), the anomalies were located on the distal side of the ribbed moraine ridges, down-ice from mineralized bedrock. Geochemical patterns together with fresh pyrite grains in till heavy mineral concentrates indicate a short glacial transport distance of the mineralized debris.
