河口作为河流和海洋的交汇地,具有生态交错带特性,其在自然和人类活动双重压力下发生着演变.生态模型是研究生态系统结构、功能及其时空演变规律以及生物过程对于生态系统的影响及其反馈机制的重要手段.采用不同方法对生态模型进行分类,综述各类生态模型的特性、优缺点及应用领域.讨论建模过程中模型变量与函数、模型整合及时空尺度、模型参数取值及不确定等关键技术问题.分析各类生态模型在河口生态工程设计、生态系统修复、生态系统评价、系统决策支持等管理领域的应用.尽管中国河口生态模型构建及应用已有一些成果,但与国外相比,在理论生态学及数据积累方面仍有一定差距.  相似文献

A conceptual model of estuarine freshwater inflow management   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
As humans continue to influence the quantity, timing, and quality of freshwater input to estuaries, it is becoming increasingly common for policies to be enacted that mandate the establishment of freshwater inflow criteria that will serve to preserve and protect estuarine ecosystems. This paper reviews the scientific literature describing how changes in freshwater inflow affect estuaries, proposes a conceptual model that explores the roles of scientists, citizens, politicians, and managers in the management of freshwater inflow to estuaries, and uses the model to explore the ways in which freshwater inflow is managed in a variety of estuaries. The scientific review is organized to provide an overview of the connections between freshwater inflow (in terms of the quantity, quality, and timing of water delivery), estuarine conditions (such as salinity and concentrations of dissolved and particulate material), and estuarine resources (such as the distribution and abundance of organisms), and to highlight our understanding of the causative mechanisms that underlie the relationships among these variables. The premise of the conceptual model is that the goal of estuarine freshwater inflow policy is to protect those resources and functions that we as a society value in estuaries, and that management measures use scientific information about the relationships among inflow, conditions, and resources to establish inflow standards that can meet this goal. The management approach can be inflow-based (flow is kept within some prescribed bounds under the assumption that taking too much away is bad for the resources), condition-based (inflow standards are set in order to maintain specified conditions in the estuary), or resource-based (inflow standards are set based on the requirements of specific resources), but each of these is carried out by regulating inflow. This model is used as a framework to describe the development of freshwater inflow criteria for estuaries in Texas, Florida, and California.  相似文献

Long-term records of biological data are extremely valuable for documenting ecosystem changes, for differentiating natural changes from those caused by humans, and for generating and analyzing testable hypotheses. Long-term sampling, however, is generally discouraged by a variety of institutional disincentives, so that today such records are uncommon. We discuss approaches for overcoming these disincentives through improved research planning and design, including clearera priori definition of management and regulatory actions and information needs, more rigorous adherence to hypothesis formulation and testing, and proper spatial and temporal scaling in sampling. We distinguish between prospective study design, in which the foregoing elements are essential for coast-effectiveness, and retrospective analysis, which relies on reconstruction of long-term records from existing data sets. We demonstrate the great value of retrospective analysis of encountered data, and argue for renewed attention to archival of data sets with documented data quality, interacalibration and documentation of methodologies, and long-term storage of samples for future analysis. Such practices are essential to ensure the quality of long-term records that are reconstructed for retrospective examination of new hypotheses in the future.  相似文献

Measurements of alkalinities and calcium concentrations in the Baltic Sea indicate that there has been a slight increase in both these parameters over the last century. These increases may have been caused by the leaching of limestone by acid rain. About ten percent of the nutrients are exported from the Baltic to the Kattegat; however, very little, if any, alkalinity is stored in the Baltic since river input and system output are approximately equal. Since the precipitation and evaporation are almost equal in the Baltic Sea, corrections are not needed for river inputs.  相似文献

The stoichiometric, KHA1, and apparent, K'HA, constants for the ionization of a number of weak acids (NH4+, HSO4?, HF, H2O, B(OH)3, H2CO3, HCO3?, H3PO4, H2PO4?, HPO42, H3AsO4 H2AsO4? and HAsO42?) in seawater at 25°C diluted with water have been fitted to equations of the form (Millero, 1979). In KHA1 = In KHA + AS12 + BS where In KHA is the thermodynamic constant in water, S is the salinity, A and B are adjustable parameters. The validity of this equation in estuarine waters has been examined by using an ion pairing model (Millero and Schreiber, 1981). The calculated values of KHA1 and K'HA at S = 35%. are in good agreement with the measured values for all the systems examined. The equation used to extrapolate the measured values to pure water KHA predicted values that agreed with those determined by using the ion pairing model. The exception was the ionization of HPO42? due to the strong interactions of Ca2+ and Mg2+ with PO43?. The differences in the predicted values of KHA1 in seawater diluted with pure water and average river water were very small for all the acids except HPO42? (the maximum ΔpK = 0.96 in average river water). The larger difference in the KHA1 for HPO42? in river waters is due to the strong interactions of Ca2+ and PO43?.  相似文献

A current measuring device, the Shot-Sensor, was developed as a low cost alternative to measuring water flow speeds and directions using conventional, more expensive instrumentation. The device releases stainless steel shot of known size and settling speed into a flowing water mass. As the shot settles, it is dispersed by currents and ends up in settling traps. Mean current speed and direction can be calculated from the patterns of dispersal and the percentages of shot of various sizes in the traps. Determination of precision and accuracy indicate that the Shot-Sensor can measure within a few cm s?1 of more expensive meters and may be suitable for some shallow-water applications. Speed range of the Shot-Sensor is presently limited between 3 and 40 cm s?1, but further development could allow this range to be extended.  相似文献

Coal handling, crushing, washing, and other processes of coal beneficiation liberate coal particulate matter, which would ultimately contaminate the nearby soils. In this study, an attempt was made to determine the status of soil bio-indicators in the surroundings of a coal beneficiation plant, (in relation to a control site). The coal beneficiation plant is located at Sudamudih, and the control site is 5 km away from the contaminated site, which is located in the colony of Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research Institute, Digwadih, Dhanbad. In order to estimate the impact of coal deposition on soil biochemical characteristics and to identify the most sensitive indicator, soil samples were taken from the contaminated and the control sites, and analyzed for soil organic carbon (SOC), soil N, soil basal respiration (BSR), substrate-induced respiration (SIR), and soil enzymes like dehydrogenase (DHA), catalase (CAT), phenol oxidase (PHE), and peroxidase (PER). Coal deposition on soils improved the SOC from 10.65 to 50.17 g kg−1, CAT from 418.1 to 804.11 μg H2O2 g−1 h−1, BSR from 8.5 to 36.15 mg CO2–C kg−1 day−1, and SIR from 24.3 to 117.14 mg CO2–C kg−1 day−1. Soils receiving coal particles exhibited significant decrease in DHA (36.6 to 4.22 μg TPF g−1 h−1), PHE (0.031 to 0.017 μM g−1 h−1), PER (0.153 to 0.006 μM g−1 h−1), and soil N (55.82 to 26.18 kg ha−1). Coal depositions significantly (P < 0.01) decreased the DHA to 8.8 times, PHE to 1.8 times, and PER to 25.5 times, but increased the SOC to 4.71 times, CAT to 1.9 times, SIR to 4.82 times, and BSR to 4.22 times. Based on principal component analysis and sensitivity test, soil peroxidase (an enzyme that plays a vital role in the degradation of the aromatic organic compounds) is found to be the most important indicator that could be considered as biomarkers for coal-contaminated soils.  相似文献

The benthic macroinfauna of Lagunal Joyuda, a coastal lagoon in Puerto Rico, was surveyed for two years. Seven hundred fifty core samples yielded 23 macrobenthic taxa. The oligochaeteThalassodrilides gurwitschi comprised 43.4% of the number of individuals collected. Polychaetes comprised 35.4% of the individuals, includingCapitella cf.capitata, Dasybranchus lumbricoides, andSteninonereis martini in approximately equal numbers. The amphipodGrandidierella bonnieroides made up 11.5% of the community. The lagoon yielded fewer species than other tropical estuaries in the Caribbean and Atlantic, but the trophic composition, mostly deposit feeders, was similar. Seasonal patterns in the abundance of individuals were most pronounced in the central basin, with maximum number of organisms during the wet season, and a minimum in the dry season. Responses to rainfall events, however, were variable and probably related to migration patterns in predators. Macrofaunal biomass demonstrated a high degree of annual variation at all sampling stations with a marked increase in 1987. Low macrofaunal biomass, lack of temporal association with physical-chemical conditions, and inverse relationships with predator populations suggest that patterns of macrofaunal abundance in Laguna Joyuda are mediated primarily by biotic mechanisms. *** DIRECT SUPPORT *** A01BY050 00006  相似文献

The stable isotope signatures of marine transient and resident nekton were used to investigate trophic linkages between primary producers, marsh macrophytes, phytoplankton, benthic microalgae, and consumers within the Delaware Bay. A whole estuary approach was used to compare the flux of nutrients from primary producers to juvenile weakfish (Cynoscion regalis), bay anchovy (Anchoa mitchilli), and white perch (Morone americana) in open waters of the lower and upper Bay and adjacent salt marshes dominated by eitherSpartina alterniflora orPhragmites australis. Our results suggest that trophic linkages vary significantly along the salinity gradient, reflecting the transition fromSpartina toPhragmites-dominated marshes, and secondarily, in a marsh to open water (offshore) direction at a given salinity. Superimposed on this pattern was a gradient in the proximate use of organic matter that depended on life history traits of each species ranging from pelagic to benthic in the order bay anchovy > weakfish > white perch.  相似文献

Water level records from two study sites in Indian River Lagoon, along Florida’s Atlantic Coast, are used to characterize the vertical displacement of the estuarine intertidal zone in response to subtidal frequency forcing. A 22-year water level record indicates that the seasonal cycle has a range approximately one-quarter greater than the mean tidal range. The intertidal zone thus rises and falls to such an extent that over time scales in excess of several weeks there is no layer which consistently experiences an alternating exposure and inundation. Six-year sets of high and low tide extremes from the second study site are expressed in the form of cummulative histograms to determine the probabilities with which high tide and low tide levels lying outside of median values will occur in response to the interaction of tidal constituents and low-frequency forcing. High and low water values are then stratified by month, and probability distributions are recomputed for each subset. In this study area, unpredictable, low-frequency water level fluctuations perturb the intertidal zone to such an extent that the probabilities of extreme high and low water levels, in addition to mean high and low water, must be determined to characterize the stuarine intertidal zone adequately. *** DIRECT SUPPORT *** A01BY034 00002  相似文献

Rural Cameroonian women interact with the environment through their numerous daily chores, and so produce in each Cameroonian ecological zone specific problems which with time can no longer be managed. In cutting down and burning the vegetation so as to create farms, in fetching water, fuel wood and so on in order to satisfy the needs of each household, the Cameroonian rural woman is pushed into a situation where she devastates and accelerates environmental degradation.In any ecological, climatic, ethnic or cultural zone, in which she finds herself, she sets in motion the continuous natural resource consumption process. Unfortunately, she has no firm authority over the land, credit and decision-making where she can come in, interact and check some of these negative consequences. The men have also been identified as accomplices in this environmental degradation process since they push the women into taking much from the environment so as to satisfy men and general domestic needs.Since the rural Cameroonian women constitute a potential partner (56,6%) of the rural production force, this paper highlights the problems created in each zone with the view of awakening public opinion, and creating an awareness of the magnitude in each zone. Some proposals, through the discussion methodology are envisaged. This, through compensatory measures, exchanges in take and give, and in farm community actions to uphold any positive checks. When all these are properly focused and the women's right to land, credit, training and decision-making recognised, they can be brought to the forefront as partners in the better management of the environment.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to use an economic framework to derive decision making rules for river basin management with a focus on groundwater resources. Using an example from northern Nigeria, the paper provides an example of how decision making for sustainable water resources management may be facilitated by comparing net benefits and costs across a river basin. It is argued that economic tools can be used to assess the value of water resources in different uses, identify and analyze management scenarios, and provide decision rules for the sustainable use and management of surface and ground water resources in the region.

Concentrations of arsenic and its geochemically associated elements, Ag, Co, Cu and Ni, were measured together with Al, Ba, Cd, Fe, Mn, Pb, Sr and Zn in aquatic bryophytes. These bryophytes originated from some of the arsenic mineralization zones of the Klodzko-Zloty Stok granodiorite massif and its metamorphic envelope (Sudetes Mts., Poland) and from identical zones of the east Sudetic Rychlebske Mts. and Jesenik Mts. (Czech Republic). Concentrations of As in all examined populations were higher than background values (1 μg/g dry weight) culminating in an average maximum of 6270 μg/g in Chiloscyphus pallescens from a stream draining an area with former arsenic and gold mining near Zloty Stok.This survey has shown that aquatic bryophytes accumulate the examined elements to a high degree especially if growing in areas with mineral deposits. This was demonstrated by strong positive correlations between Ba, Sr, Zn concentrations in water and Platyhypnidium rusciforme.  相似文献

Fractionation by ultra-filtration of the dissolved organic material (DOM) in the River Beaulieu, with typical concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) of 7–8 mg C/l, showed it to be mainly in the nominal molecular weight range of 103–105, with 16–23% of the total DOC in the fraction > 105. The molecular weight distribution of DOM in the more alkaline River Test (average DOC, 2 mg C/l) was similar. In the River Beaulieu water, containing 136–314 βg Fe/l in ‘dissolved’ forms, 90% or more of this Fe was in the nominal molecular weight fraction > 105. Experiments showed that DOM of nominal molecular weight <105 could stabilize Fe(III) in ‘dissolved’ forms. The concentrations of ‘dissolved’ Fe in the river water probably reflect the presence of colloidal Fe stabilized by organic material and this process may influence the apparent molecular weight of the DOM. Dissolved. Mn (100–136 βg/l) in the River Beaulieu was mainly in true solution, probably as Mn(II), with some 30% in forms of molecular weight greater than ca 104.During mi xing in the Beaulieu Estuary, DOC and dissolved Mn behave essentially conservatively. This contrasts with the removal of a large fraction of the dissolved Fe (Holliday and LISS, 1976, Est. Coastal Mar. Sci. 4, 349–353). Concentrations of lattice-held Fe and Mn in suspended particulate material were essentially uniform in the estuary, at 3.2 and 0.012%, respectively, whereas the non-lattice held fractions decreased markedly with increase in salinity. For Mn the decrease was linear and could be most simply accounted for by the physical mixing of riverborne and marine participates, although the possibility that some desorption occurs is not excluded. The non-linear decrease in the concentration of non-lattice held Fe in particulates reflected the more complex situation in which physical mixing is accompanied by removal of material from the ‘dissolved’ fraction.  相似文献
