Hitherto unstudied objects from Stephenson's list of Hα emission line objects at high galactic latitude were observed spectroscopically to prove their nature. 9 out of 11 objects show Hα in emission. Spectroscopy combined with photometric information indicates most of them being classical Be stars, while one object is a Post‐AGB star and one a T‐Tauri star. The classification of two objects, which are showing Hα in emission, is unclear. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The first CCD photometric investigation of the open cluster NGC 7296 up to now was performed within the narrow band Δa photometric system, which enables us to detect peculiar objects. A deeper investigation of that cluster followed, using the standard BV R ‐Bessel filter set. The age and E (BV ) was determined independently to log t = 8.0 ± 0.1 and 0.15 ± 0.02, respectively by using Δa and broadband photometry. In total five Be/Ae objects and two metal‐weak stars showing significant negative Δa ‐values as well as one classical chemically peculiar star could be identified within that intermediate age open cluster. We have determined an improved orbit for the bright, evolved, double lined binary γ Canis Minoris. The system has an orbital period of 389.31 days and an eccentricity of 0.2586. We have revised the secondary to primary mass ratio to 0.987. The spectral types of the primary and secondary are K4 III and K1: III, respectively, and the components have a V magnitude difference of 2.2. Orbital fits to the Hipparcos astrometry are not definitive, but they suggest an orbital inclination of ∼ 66°, which produces masses of 1.88 and 1.85 M for the components. A comparison with evolutionary tracks results in an age of 1.3 Gyr. STELLA very low amplitude radial velocity residuals of the secondary indicate a period of 278 days. We interpret this as the rotation period of the secondary, detectable because of star spots rotating in and out of view. This period is nearly identical to the pseudosynchronous rotation period of the star. The primary is rotating more slowly than its pseudosynchronous rate. (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Based on numerical three-dimensional radiative line transfer calculations H emission line profiles of circumstellar Be star envelopes have been derived. The results show that the socalled winebottle-type emission line profiles can be explained by the combination of rotational broadening and non-coherent scattering in optically thick Keplerian disks. In a further calculation the stellar wind model of Be star envelopes has been re-investigated assuming an additional expansion component in the velocity field. The resulting asymmetric winebottle-type profiles and asymmetric shell-type emission lines with blue-shifted central depressions are in contradiction with the observed line shapes. It is concluded that isotropic stationary outflows are not suitable to explain observed asymmetric emission line profiles of Be stars.  相似文献

Low frequency oscillation, typical for γ Doradus g‐mode type stellar core sensitive pulsation, as well as higher frequency δ Scuti type pulsation typical for p ‐modes, sensitive to the envelope, make HD 8801 a remarkable hybrid pulsator with the potential to probe a stellar structure over a wide range of radius. In addition HD 8801 is a rare pulsating metallic line (Am) star. We determined the astro‐physical fundamental parameters to locate HD 8801 in the H‐R diagram. We analyzed the element abundances, paying close attention to the errors involved, and confirm the nature of HD 8801 as a metallic line (Am) star. We also determined an upper limit on the magnetic field strength. Our abundance analysis is based on classical techniques, but uses for the final step a model atmosphere calculated with the abundances determined by us. We also discuss spectropolarimetric observations obtained for HD 8801. This object is remarkable in several respects. It is a nonmagnetic metallic line (Am) star, pulsating simultaneously in p‐ and g‐modes, but also shows oscillations with periods in between these two domains, whose excitation requires explanation. Overall, the pulsational incidence in unevolved classical Am stars is believed to be quite low; HD 8801 does not conform to this picture. Finally, about 75 % of Am stars are located in short‐period binaries, but there is no evidence that HD 8801 has a companion. (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

This paper is dealing with the discovery of 11 new or new suspected variables, found as a by‐product during the preparation of our Catalogue of Stars in the Northern Milky Way Having H‐alpha in Emission. We give: (1) The coordinates of the variables and of the respective comparison stars; (2) the maximum and the minimum brightnesses of the observed m(pg), which were determined by visual estimation using the brightnesses in Catalogue USNO A2.0; (3) finding charts of the variables together with their comparison stars used (in electronic form only). We present the frequency analysis of the multicolour time series photometry of the field RRd variable BS Comae. The large number of data points in each of the BV (RI)C bands and the ∼0.01 magnitude accuracy of the individual measurements allow us a high precision analysis of the properties of the combination frequencies due to nonlinear coupling. Through the combination of the frequency spectra in different colors we show that except for the components corresponding to the linear combinations of the two pulsation modes, there are no other components present above the millimagnitude amplitude level. SAX J2103.5+4545 is the Be/X-ray binary (BeX) with the shortest orbital period. It shows extended bright and faint X-ray states that last for a few hundred days. The main objective of this work is to investigate the relationship between the X-ray and optical variability and to characterize the spectral and timing properties of the bright and faint states. We have found a correlation between the spectral and temporal parameters that fit the energy and power spectra. Softer energy spectra correspond to softer power spectra. That is to say, when the energy spectrum is soft, the power at high frequencies is suppressed. We also present the results of our monitoring of the Hα line of the optical counterpart since its discovery in 2003. There is a correlation between the strength and shape of the Hα line, originated in the circumstellar envelope of the massive companion and the X-ray emission from the vicinity of the neutron star. Hα emission, indicative of an equatorial disc around the B-type star, is detected whenever the source is bright in X-rays. When the disc is absent, the X-ray emission decreases significantly. The long-term variability of SAX J2103.5+4545 is characterized by fast episodes of disc loss and subsequent reformation. The time-scales for the loss and reformation of the disc (about 2 yr) are the fastest among BeXs.  相似文献

A number of strong infrared forbidden lines have been observed in several evolved Wolf–Rayet (WR) star winds, and these are important for deriving metal abundances and testing stellar evolution models. In addition, because these optically thin lines form at large radius in the wind, their resolved profiles carry an imprint of the asymptotic structure of the wind flow. This work presents model forbidden line profile shapes formed in axisymmetric winds. It is well known that an optically thin emission line formed in a spherical wind expanding at constant velocity yields a flat-topped emission profile shape. Simulated forbidden lines are produced for a model stellar wind with an axisymmetric density distribution that treats the latitudinal ionization self-consistently and examines the influence of the ion stage on the profile shape. The resulting line profiles are symmetric about line centre. Within a given atomic species, profile shapes can vary between centrally peaked, doubly peaked, and approximately flat-topped in appearance depending on the ion stage (relative to the dominant ion) and viewing inclination. Although application to WR star winds is emphasized, the concepts are also relevant to other classes of hot stars such as luminous blue variables and Be/B[e] stars.  相似文献

We present high‐quality spectra of the majority of stars that have been classified as Oe and find that their published spectral types are generally too early, most likely due to infilling of He I lines. As a matter of fact, all stars classified as Oe actually fall inside the range O9–B0 with the important exception of HD 155806 (O7.5 III) and perhaps HD 39680 (difficult to classify, but likely O8.5V). Observations of a sample of objects with published spectral types in the O9–B0 range previously classified as peculiar or emission‐line stars fail to reveal any new Oe star with spectral type earlier than O9.5. Most objects classified as peculiar in “classical” literature show signs of binarity in our spectra, but no spectral anomalies. We conclude that there is likely a real decline in the fraction of Be stars for spectral types earlier than B0, not due to observational bias. The few Oe stars with spectral types earlier than O9.5 deserve detailed investigation in order to provide constraints on the physical reasons of the Be phenomenon. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In dense hot star winds, the infrared and radio continua are dominated by free‐free opacity and recombination emission line spectra. In the case of a spherically symmetric outflow that is isothermal and expanding at constant radial speed, the radiative transfer for the continuum emission from a dense wind is analytic. Even the emission profile shape for a recombination line can be derived. Key to these derivations is that the opacity scales with only the square of the density. These results are well‐known. Here an extension of the derivation is developed that also allows for line blends and the inclusion of an additional power‐law dependence beyond just the density dependence. The additional power‐law is promoted as a representation of a radius dependent clumping factor. It is shown that differences in the line widths and equivalent widths of the emission lines depend on the steepness of the clumping power‐law. Assuming relative level populations in LTE in the upper levels of He II, an illustrative application of the model to Spitzer/IRS spectral data of the carbon‐rich star WR 90 is given (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The spectroscopic analysis of systems with transiting planets gives strong constraints on planetary masses and radii as well as the chemical composition of the systems. The properties of the system OGLE‐TR‐10 are not well‐constrained, partly due to the discrepancy of previous measurements of the effective temperature of the host star. This work, which is fully independent from previous works in terms of data reduction and analysis, uses the Hα profile in order to get an additional constraint on the effective temperature. We take previously published UVES observations which have the highest available signal‐to‐noise ratio for OGLE‐TR‐10. A proper normalization to the relative continuum is done using intermediate data products of the reduction pipeline of the UVES spectrograph. The effective temperature then is determined by fitting synthetic Hα profiles to the observed spectrum. With a result of Teff = 6020 ± 140 K, the Hα profile clearly favours one of the previous measurements. The Hα line is further consistent with dwarf‐like surface gravities as well as solar and super‐solar metallicities previously derived for OGLE‐TR‐10.The Hα line could not be used to its full potential, partly because of the varying shape of the UVES échelle orders after flat field correction. We suggest to improve this feature when constructing future spectrographs. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We present new BV photometry and spectroscopic observations of RZ Cassiopeiae. The light and radial velocity curves were formed by the new observations which have been analyzed simultaneously by using theWilson‐Dewinney code. The non‐synchronous rotational velocity v 1 sin i = 76 ± 6 km s–1, deduced for the primary component from the new spectroscopic observations, was also incorporated in the analysis. A time‐series analysis of the residual light curves revealed the multi‐periodic pulsations of the primary component of RZ Cas. The main peak in the frequency spectrum was observed at about 64.197 c d–1 in both B and V bands. The pulsational constant was calculated to be 0.0116 days. This value corresponds to high overtones (n ∼ 6) of non‐radial mode oscillations. We find significant changes in the pulsational amplitude of the primary component from year to year. The peak‐to‐peak pulsational amplitude of the main frequency displays a decrease from 0.m013 in 2000 to 0.m002 in 2001 and thereafter we have found an increase again in the amplitude to 0.m01 in the year 2002. We propose the mass transfer from the cool secondary to the pulsating primary as a possible explanation for such remarkable changes in the pulsational behavior of the primary component. In this study we determined precise orbital and physical parameters of the very short‐period low‐mass contact binary system CC Com. The parameters are obtained by analysis of new CCD data combined with archival spectroscopic data. The physical parameters of the cool and hot components are derived as Mc = 0.717(14) M, Mh = 0.378(8) M, Rc = 0.708(12) R, Rh = 0.530(10) R, Lc = 0.138(12) L, and Lh = 0.085(7) L, respectively, and the distance of the system is estimated as 64(4) pc. The times of minima obtained in this study and with those published before enable us to calculate the mass transfer rate between the components which is 1.6 × 10–8 M yr–1. Finally, we discuss the possible evolutionary scenario of CC Com (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The Herbig Ae/Be stars are intermediate mass pre‐main sequence stars that bridge the gap between the low mass T Tauri stars and the Massive Young Stellar Objects. In this mass range, the acting star forming mechanism switches from magnetically controlled accretion to an as yet unknown mechanism, but which is likely to be direct disk accretion onto the star. We observed a large sample of Herbig Ae/Be stars with X‐shooter to address this issue from a multi‐wavelength perspective. It is the largest such study to date, not only because of the number of objects involved, but also because of the large wavelength coverage from the blue to the near‐infrared. This allows many accretion diagnostics to be studied simultaneously. By correlating the various properties with mass, temperature and age, we aim to determine where and whether the magnetically controlled mass accretion mechanism halts and the proposed direct disk accretion takes over. Here, we will give an overview of the background, present some observations and discuss our initial results. We will introduce a new accretion diagnostic for the research of Herbig Ae/Be stars, the HeI 1.083 μm line (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We investigate how the frequencies of gravity modes depend on the detailed properties of the chemical composition gradient that develops near the core of main‐sequence stars and, therefore, on the transport processes that are able to modify the μ profile in the central regions. We show that in main‐sequence models, similarly to the case of white dwarfs, the periods of high‐order gravity modes are accurately described by a uniform period spacing superposed to an oscillatory component. The periodicity and amplitude of such a component are related, respectively, to the location and sharpness of the μ gradient. We briefly discuss and interpret, by means of this simple approximation, the effect of turbulent mixing near the core on the periods of both high‐order and low‐order g modes, as well as of modes of mixed pressure‐gravity character. About a dozen field RR Lyrae stars have been observed with the 24‐inch Heyde‐Zeiss telescope of the Konkoly Observatory at Svábhegy, Budapest, since its refurbishment in 2003. Most of the observing time is allocated for the investigation of the Blazhko modulation, a phenomenon that still does not have a satisfactory explanation. The obtained multicolour CCD observations are unique in extent. The accuracy of the measurements makes it possible to detect low amplitude modulation of the light curve as well. The discovery of Blazhko stars with low modulation amplitudes warns that the incidence rate of the Blazhko modulation is, in fact, much larger than it was previously expected. This makes the efforts exploring the cause of the modulation even more important. A summary of our measurements and results achieved during the last 3 years is presented. On 2006 August 30, SXP18.3 a high-mass X-ray binary (HMXB) in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) with an 18.3 s pulse period was observed by Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer ( RXTE ). The source was seen continuously for the following 36 weeks. This is the longest type II outburst ever seen from a HMXB in the SMC. During the outburst, SXP18.3 was located from serendipitous XMM–Newton observations. The identification of the optical counterpart has allowed SXP18.3 to be classified as a Be/X-ray binary. This paper will report on the analysis of the optical and weekly RXTE X-ray data that span the last 10 yr. The extreme length of this outburst has for the first time enabled us to perform an extensive study of the pulse timing of a SMC Be/X-ray binary. We present a possible full orbital solution from the pulse timing data. An orbital period of 17.79 d is proposed from the analysis of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) III light curve placing SXP18.3 on the boundary of known sources in the Corbet diagram.  相似文献

Mode identification is one of the first and main problems we encounter in trying to develop the complete potential of asteroseismology. In the particular case of g‐mode pulsators, this is still an unsolved problem, from both the observational and theoretical points of view. Nevertheless, in recent years, some observational and theoretical efforts have been made to find a solution. In this work we use the latest theoretical and computational tools to understand asymptotic g‐mode pulsators: 1) the Frequency Ratio Method, and 2) Time Dependent Convection. With these tools, a self‐consistent procedure for mode identification and modelling of these g‐mode pulsators can be constructed. This procedure is illustrated using observational information available for the γ Doradus star 9Aurigae. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献
