We analyzed two sequences of quiet-Sun magnetograms obtained on June 4, 1992 and July 28, 1994. Both were observed during excellent seeing conditions such that the weak intranetwork (IN) fields are observed clearly during the entire periods. Using the local correlation tracking technique, we derived the horizontal velocity fields of IN and network magnetic fields. They consist of two components: (1) radial divergence flows which move IN fields from the network interior to the boundaries, and (2) lateral flows which move along the network boundaries and converge toward stronger magnetic elements. Furthermore, we constructed divergence maps based on horizonal velocities, which are a good representation of the vertical velocities of supergranules. For the June 4, 1992 data, the enhanced network area in the field of view has twice the flux density, 10% higher supergranular velocity and 20% larger cell sizes than the quiet, unenhanced network area. Based on the number densities and flow velocities of IN fields derived in this paper and a previous paper (Wang et al., 1995), we estimate that the lower limit of total energy released from the recycling of IN fields is 1.2 × 1028 erg s–1, which is comparable to the energy required for coronal heating.  相似文献

Large Doppler velocities with unique, almost regular elliptical features were observed in the H spectra of the May 15, 2000 eruptive prominence. These features were interpreted in the frame of axially symmetric models of the eruptive prominence. The rotational (7–60 km s–1), expansion (30–44 km s–1), axial (3–19 km s–1), and global (66–160 km s–1) prominence plasma velocities were derived. The plasma velocity patterns were compared with the observed helical structures of the H prominence. The velocities of selected H blobs in the image plane were determined. The axially symmetric detwisting process of the magnetic flux rope of the eruptive prominence was recognized.  相似文献

We measure the separation velocity of opposite poles from 24 new bipoles on the Sun. We find that the measured velocities range from about 0.2 to 1 km s–1. The fluxes of the bipoles range over more than two orders of magnitude, and the mean field strength and the sizes range over one order of magnitude. The measured separation velocity is not correlated with the flux and the mean field strength of the bipole. The separation velocity predicted by the present theory of magnetic buoyancy is between 7.4Ba –1/4 cot and 13 cot km s–1, where is the elevation angle of the flux tube at the photosphere (see Figure 9), B is the mean field strength, and a is the radius of the observed bipole. The rising velocity of the top of flux tubes predicted by the theory of magnetic buoyancy is between 3.7Ba –1/4 and 6.5 km s–1. The predicted separation velocity is about one order of magnitude higher than those measured, or else the flux tubes are almost vertical at the photosphere. There is no correlation between the measured separation velocity and the theoretical value, 7.4Ba –1/4. The predicted rising velocity is also higher than the vertical velocity near the line of inversion in emerging flux regions observed by other authors.  相似文献

Observations of line-of-sight velocities of gases in magnetic fields in weak plages near disk centre confirm the systematic downward velocity of 0.5 km s–1, and show fluctuations about this mean by a rather uncertain 0.2 km s–1. Some of the fluctuations show a fairly regular period around 5.5 min.  相似文献

We discuss the weak solar magnetic fields as studied with the BBSO videomagnetograph (VMG). By weak fields we mean those outside active and unipolar regions. These are found everywhere on the Sun, even where there never have been sunspots. These fields consist of the network and intranetwork (IN) elements. The former move slowly and live a day or more; the latter move rapidly (typically 300 m s–1) and live only hours. To all levels of sensitivity the flux is concentrated in discrete elements, and the background field has not been detected. The smallest detectable elements at present are 1016 Mx. The IN elements emerge in bipolar form but appear to flow in a random pattern rather than to the network edges; however, any expanding network element is constrained by geometry to move toward the edges.Because of the great number and short lifetime of the IN elements the total flux emerging in that form exceeds that emerging in the ER by two orders of magnitude and the flux in sunspots, by a factor 104. However, the flux separation is small and there is no contribution to the overall field. In contrast with our earlier results, merging of IN fields is more important than the ephemeral regions as a source of new network elements. The conjecture that all solar magnetic fields are intrinsically strong is discussed and evidence pro and con presented. For the IN fields the evidence suggests they cannot exceed 100 G. For the network fields there is evidence on either side.Reconnection and merging of magnetic fields takes place continually in the conditions studied.Because there is a steady state distribution, the amout of new elements created by merging or emergence must balance that destroyed by reconnection or fission and diffusion of the stronger elements.Solar Cycle Workshop Paper.  相似文献

The speeds of coronal mass ejection events   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The outward speeds of mass ejection events observed with the white light coronagraph experiment on Skylab varied over a range extending from less than 100 km s–1 to greater than 1200 km s–1. For all events the average speed within the field of view of the experiment (1.75 to 6 solar radii) was 470 km s–1. Typically, flare associated events (Importance 1 or greater) traveled faster (775 km s–1) than events associated with eruptive prominences (330 km s–1); no flare associated event had a speed less than 360 km s–1, and only one eruptive prominence associated event had a speed greater than 600 km s–1. Speeds versus height profiles for a limited number of events indicate that the leading edges of the ejecta move outward with constant or increasing speeds.Metric wavelength type II and IV radio bursts are associated only with events moving faster than about 400 km s–1; all but two events moving faster than 500 km –1 produced either a type II or IV radio burst or both. This suggests that the characteristic speed with which MHD signals propagate in the lower (1.1 to 3 solar radii) corona, where metric wavelength bursts are generated, is about 400 to 500 km s–1. The fact that the fastest mass ejection events are almost always associated with flares and with metric wavelength type II and IV radio bursts explains why major shock wave disturbances in the solar wind at 1 AU are most often associated with these forms of solar activity rather than with eruptive prominences. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

An X2.3 class flare was reported on 10 April 2001 in AR 9415. A halo coronal mass ejection (CME) was associated with this flare. The Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer (CDS) on board the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), which was running in its daily synoptic mode, recorded a very high-velocity ejection of plasma associated with this activity. The spatial scanning and spectral capabilities of CDS allow the measurement of both transverse and line-of-sight velocities. Components of the plasma, as seen in emission from Ov at around 2.5×105 K, reached transverse velocities in excess of 800 km s–1. The nature of the spectral line profiles suggests that a rotational motion of ±350 km s–1 was superimposed upon the general outward expansion of approximately 150 km s–1. The ejection detected using CDS was found to have a constant acceleration and is thought to be a spray of plasma with a helical structure driven by the magnetic topology.  相似文献

The high spatial resolution observation of a quiet region taken with the Solar Optical Telescope/Spectro-Polarimeter aboard the Hinode spacecraft is analyzed. Based on the Milne?CEddington atmospheric model, the vector magnetic field of the quiet region is derived by fitting the full Stokes profiles of the Fe i 630 nm line pair. We extract intranetwork (IN) region from the quiet region and identify 5058 IN magnetic elements, and study their magnetic properties. As a comparison, the magnetic properties of network (NT) region are also analyzed. The main results are as follows. i)?The IN area displays a predominance of weak (hecto-gauss) field concentration, i.e., 99.8?% of IN area shows the weak field. Moreover, the vector magnetic field exhibits concentration toward horizontal direction. However, for the NT region, we discover the coexistence of weak field and strong (kilo-gauss, kG) field. In the IN and NT regions, the filling factor shows almost the same probability distribution function with the peak at about 0.28. ii)?All IN magnetic elements show field strength less than 1?kG. However, some NT elements display the coexistence of weak field and strong field. Regardless of NT or IN elements, about 20?% of elements lies in the Doppler blue-shift region. Our results imply that not all magnetic elements lie in the down-draft sites.  相似文献

Based on Hinode SOT/NFI observations with greatly improved spatial and temporal resolution and polarization sensitivity, the lifestory of the intranetwork (IN) magnetic elements are explored in a solar quiet region. A total of 2282 IN elements are followed from their appearance to disappearance and their fluxes measured. By tracing individual IN elements their lifetimes are obtained, which fall in the range from 1 to 20 min. The average lifetime is 2.9±2.0 min. The observed lifetime distribution is well represented by an exponential function. Therefore, the e-fold characteristic lifetime is determined by a least-square fitting to the observations, which is 2.1±0.3 min. The lifetime of IN elements is correlated closely with their flux. The evolution of IN elements is described according to the forms of their birth and disappearance. Based on the lifetime and flux obtained from the new observations, it is estimated that the IN elements have the capacity of heating the corona with a power of 2.1×1028 erg s−1 for the whole Sun.  相似文献

The relative Doppler and non-thermal velocities of quiet-Sun and active-region blinkers identified in Ov with CDS are calculated. Relative velocities for the corresponding chromospheric plasma below are also determined using the Hei line. Ov blinkers and the chromosphere directly below, have a preference to be more red-shifted than the normal transition region and chromospheric plasma. The ranges of these enhanced velocities, however, are no larger than the typical spread of Doppler velocities in these regions. The anticipated ranges of Doppler velocities of blinkers are 10–15 km s–1 in the quiet Sun (10–20 km s–1 in active regions) for Hei and 25–30 km s–1 in the quiet Sun (20–40 km s–1 in active regions) for Ov. Blinkers and the chromosphere below also have preferentially larger non-thermal velocities than the typical background chromosphere and transition region. Again the increase in magnitude of these non-thermal velocities is no greater than the typical ranges of non-thermal velocities. The ranges of non-thermal velocities of blinkers in both the quiet Sun and active regions are estimated to be 15–25 km s–1 in Hei and 30–45 km s–1 in Ov. There are more blinkers with larger Doppler and non-thermal velocities than would be expected in the whole of the chromosphere and transition region. The recently suggested mechanisms for blinkers are revisited and discussed further in light of the new results.  相似文献

The search for non thermal radio emission from clusters of galaxies is a powerful tool to investigate the existence of magnetic fields on such large scale. Unfortunately, such observations are scarce thus far, mainly because of the very faint large scale radio emission expected in clusters of galaxies. In the present contribution we will first review the status of the radio observations of clusters of galaxies, carried out with the aim of detecting large scale radio emission. We will then focus on the large scale radio emission detected at 327 MHz and 610 MHz in the Coma cluster of galaxies. The features of the detected radio emission suggest that a magnetic field with an intensity of the order of ~ 10–7 Gauss must be present on a scale of about 2 Mpc (forH o = 100km s –1 Mpc –1). The morphology of the radio emission is similar to that of the most recent X-ray images derived with ROSAT, and follows the distribution of the galaxies in the cluster. All these pieces of information will be taken into account in the discussion on the possible origin of this large scale magnetic field.  相似文献

Canceling magnetic features are commonly believed to result from magnetic reconnection in the low atmosphere. According to the Sweet–Parker type reconnection model, the rate of flux cancellation in a canceling magnetic feature is related to the converging speed of each pole. To test this prediction observationally, we have analyzed the time variation of two canceling magnetic features in detail using the high-resolution magnetograms taken by the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). As a result, we have obtained the rate and converging speed of flux cancellation in each feature: 1.3×1018 Mx hr–1 (or 1.1×106 G cm s–1 per unit contact length) and 0.35 km s–1 in the smaller one, and 3.5×1018 Mx hr–1 (1.2×106 G cm s–1) and 0.27 km s–1 in the bigger one. The observed speeds are found to be significantly bigger than the theoretically expected ones, but this discrepancy can be resolved if uncertainty factors such as low area filling factor of magnetic flux and low electric conductivity are taken into account.  相似文献

A study of supergranule motions confirms horizontal velocities with peak values of typically 0.36 km s–1 as observed in Fe i 8688 Å. These show no significant variation with height over the range of formation of C i 9111, Fe i 8688, and Mg i 8806, but there is a substantial reduction to about one-half of this at the level of Ca ii 8542.Near disk center, supergranule vertical velocities in Fe i 8688 have rms values ±0.01 km –1, after allowance for the residual effects of the line-of-sight component of the horizontal supergranule motions, the five-minute oscillations, granule motions, and detector drift. There is a marginally-significant association of magnetic elements, and hence of cell boundaries, with downward motions; but this requires further testing.Measurements of downward velocities 0.1 km–1 in regions of strong magnetic field when using unpolarized light are attributed to the much higher downflow inside the elements themselves and have nothing to do with supergranule motions.Visiting Astronomer, Kitt Peak National Observatory.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

In this paper we study the main features of the far UV spectrum of the binary star AX Mon, observed with the IUE satellite at phase 0.568.Ions indicating a large range of ionization stages, going fromCi,Oi,Ni toSiv,Civ,Nv are present. The spectrum is dominated by shell absorption lines of Feii, Feiii, Siiii,Cii, Alii, Mgii and Niii. Two satellite components are clearly indicated in all these lines except for Niii which presents only one. Their mean velocities are +10±5 km s–1, –75±10 km s–1, and –260±15 km s–1.Red emission wings are observed in the Mgii resonant doublet at 2800 Å, which shows a P Cygni profile. Each of the absorption lines of the Mgii doublet is formed by a narrow component, which is blended with the Mgii interstellar line and a broad component, which shows a complex structure.Broad and asymmetrical profiles are observed for the Siiv,Civ, andNv resonance lines with blue edge velocities about –700±30 km s–1.  相似文献

We have measured the motion of facular points and granules in the same region near a decaying sunspot. It is found that both features move away across the moat surrounding the sunspot. The mean speed of facular points is larger than that of granules: 0.65 km s–1 and 0.4 km s–1, respectively. These results are consistent with previous measurements of the speed of bright network features and moving magnetic fields, as well as of non-magnetic photospherical material. They support models in which a decaying sunspot is at the center of a supergranule, whose horizontal motions sweep out granules and magnetic flux tubes associated to the facular points. It is also found that granules are dragged by supergranular motions away of the moat.Contributions from the Kwasan and Hida Observatories, University of Kyoto.A part of this work was done while one of the authors (R.M.) was staying at the Kwasan and Hida Observatories, University of Kyoto, Japan, as a JSPS research fellow.  相似文献

During operations on the Spacelab-2 Shuttle mission, the NRL High Resolution Telescope and Spectrograph (HRTS) recorded spectra of a variety of solar features in the 1200–1700 Å wavelength region which contains spectral lines and continua well suited for investigating the temperature minimum, the chromosphere and transition zone. These data show that, at the highest spatial resolution, the transition zone spectra are broken up from a continuous intensity distribution along the slit into discrete emission elements. The average dimensions of these discrete transition zone structures is 2400 km along the slit, but an analysis of their emission measures and densities shows that the dimensions of the actual emitting volume is conciderably less. If these structures are modelled as an ensemble of subresolution filaments, we find that these filaments have typical radii of from 3 to 30 km and that the cross-sectional fill factor is in the range from 10–5 to 10–2. The transport of mass and energy through these transition zone structures is reduced by this same factor of 10–5 to 10–2 which has significant consequences for our understanding of the dynamics of the solar atmosphere. Because the HRTS transition zone line profiles are not broadened by resolved large-spatial-scale solar velocity fields, the line widths of the Civ lines have been analyzed. The average line width is 0.195 Å (FWHM) and requires an average nonthermal velocity of 16 km s–1 (most-probable) or 19 km s–1 (root-mean-square) which is lower than previously observed values.  相似文献

Previous observations of spatially-resolved vertical velocity variations in ten lines of Fe i spanning the height range 0 h 1000 km are re-analyzed using velocity weighting functions. The amplitudes and scale heights of granular and oscillatory velocities are determined, as well as those of the remaining unresolved velocities. I find that the optimal representation of the amplitude of the outward-decreasing granular velocities is an exponentially decreasing function of height, with a scale height of 150 km and a velocity at zero height of 1.27 km s–1. The optimal representation of the same quantities for oscillatory velocities is an exponential increase with height, with a scale height of 1100 km and a velocity at zero height of 0.35 km s–1. The remaining unresolved velocities decrease with height, with a scale height of 380 km and a velocity at zero height of 2.3 km s–1.  相似文献

Ions falling in vertically aligned magnetic structures of quiescent prominences may experience a vertical Lorentz force as flux ropes are distorted from the force-free condition. The terminal velocity of such ions may be sub-Alfvénic and may correspond to the 5–15 km s–1 velocity of down falling material observed in many quiescent prominences. The higher velocities of down falling material found in active prominences and coronal rain may occur because of higher terminal velocities occurring in stronger magnetic fields.Visiting Astronomer, on leave from the Department of Astro-Geophysics, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado 80309.  相似文献

Autocorrelation and cross-correlation techniques have been applied to obtain quantitative information about the dynamics of magnetic flux on the solar surface. The speed of network magnetic elements and the diffusion coefficient associated with their random motion is derived. The speed is found to be about 0.1 km s–1, independent of activity level. However, the diffusion coefficient shows a strong activity dependence: it is about 370–500 km2 s–1in the quiet network and 135–210 km2 s–1in the enhanced network. It is found that the lifetime of the enhanced network relative to the quiet network is compatible with that suggested by a comparison of their respective diffusion coefficients. This supports the proposition that a diffusion-like dispersion of magnetic flux is the dominant factor in the large-scale, long-term evolution of the network.  相似文献

High-resolution MDI magnetograms are used to study the pattern of moving magnetic inhomogeneities in sunspots. We examine the inward and outward moving features in sunspots. The velocity of these features is small in the umbra while it is about 0.5 km s–1 in the outer penumbra. The inward and outward moving features may be the possible origin for the long-term fluctuations of magnetic field strength in sunspots.  相似文献
