Spreading of floating particles by Langmuir circulation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Particles floating on the sea surface, in particular buoyant algae, are drawn into bands by the converging flow between neighbouring Langmuir cells. Floating bands subsequently amalgamate as a result of Langmuir turbulence. Simple models are developed to describe the rearrangement and dispersion of the floating particles. If the production of floating particles has ceased, the mean separation of the bands of particles increases with time and eventually becomes unrelated to the mean distance between the lines of convergence resulting from Langmuir circulation. The concentration of particles in the bands, proportional to the width of bands, and the separation of bands with a given concentration of particles, both increase with time. Care is needed in estimating the width of Langmuir cells to distinguish between surface bands of floating material that is continuously being produced and bands made visible by some earlier, but discontinued, generation. An alternative mechanism for the generation of dense bands of floating algae is proposed.  相似文献

Aiming at different variation patterns of cross-fault short-leveling before earthquakes, the paper establishes the 2-D finite-element models with different crustal stratification and fault occurrence perpendicular to Longmenshan fault zone. By contact analysis and viscoelastic finite element method, the influence of fault structure on cross-fault short-leveling is obtained under the same constraint conditions, the results show that:with the increase of the horizontal projection distance of fault, the cumulative displacements of surface increase gradually in the models with fixed dip angles of the fault plane (model 1). However, when the horizontal projection distance exceeds 20km, the influence of fault''s dip angle on the cumulative displacements of surface short-leveling will decrease significantly, and the cumulative displacements are maintained at about 1.5m. However, in the listric fault models (model 2),when the projection distance is less than 20km, the listric fault structure impedes the sliding of fault. The short-leveling variation rate is only half of model 1; as a result, the ability to reflect the regional stress enhancement by cross-fault short-leveling is further weakened. But when the horizontal projection distance exceeds 25km, the cumulative displacements significantly increase, with the maximum displacement reaching 1.75m. The results of equivalent stress show that the listric fault structure causes a sudden increasement in equivalent stress when the horizontal projection distance is 10km, higher equivalent stress values are accumulated between the projection distance of 5-20km, and then high-low stress difference zones are formed at the bottom of the fault plane and near the transition zone of low-high dip angle.  相似文献

An effort is made to examine the properties of rotational (torsional and rocking) ground motions using Chiba dense array data. The Chiba array system, located 30 km east of Tokyo, Japan, is composed of 15 boreholes with separation distances varying from 5 to 320 m. This provides a unique opportunity to examine the characteristics of rotational components. For this purpose, 17 events are considered and rotational ground motions are evaluated using spatial derivatives of translational ones. The effects of seismological parameters and separation distances between stations on properties of rotational motions are examined, showing a sudden increase in rotational motions for the earthquakes with large magnitude or PGA and decrease of these motions with increasing separation distance. While the duration of torsional motion is found to be larger than translational ones, there is no significant difference between durations of rocking and vertical motions. The effects of separation distance and earthquake magnitude on rotational response spectra are also investigated. The normalized rotational response spectra are found to be strongly affected by separation distance. The spectral ratios of rotational and translational motions are not linearly proportional to period as suggested by the previous studies. Finally, the torsional motion is predicted from translation ones for different separation distances at the site. The comparison of the predicted and the calculated torsional motions reveals a weak estimation in close separation distances (<30m) and satisfactory predictions in other cases. 地学长江计划“安徽段实验”是大容量气枪震源在长江的首次激发。本文针对布设在气枪固定激发点附近的流动台和周边固定台接收到的气枪信号进行线性叠加分析近场和远场信号的时频特性,利用叠加结果检测气枪信号的传播特性,分析不同环境因素对信号传播距离的影响。结果表明:①近岸首台可以接收到清晰的压力脉冲、气泡脉冲的体波和面波信号;②气枪信号主频为5Hz左右,随震中距的增加,压力脉冲信号衰减很快,信号主频频带变窄;③对信号传播距离进行初步检测,最近的传播距离为180km,最远共有3个激发点传播达到260km,夜晚激发信号传播距离较远。  相似文献

The rapid expansion of urbanization along the world’s coastal areas requires a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of the coastal ocean. Over the past several decades, numerical ocean circulation models have tried to provide such insight, based on our developing understanding of physical ocean processes. The systematic establishment of coastal ocean observation systems adopting cutting-edge technology, such as high frequency (HF) radar, satellite sensing, and gliders, has put such ocean model predictions to the test, by providing comprehensive observational datasets for the validation of numerical model forecasts. The New York Harbor Observing and Prediction System (NYHOPS) is a comprehensive system for understanding coastal ocean processes on the continental shelf waters of New York and New Jersey. To increase confidence in the system’s ocean circulation predictions in that area, a detailed validation exercise was carried out using HF radar and Lagrangian drifter-derived surface currents from three drifters obtained between March and October 2010. During that period, the root mean square (RMS) differences of both the east–west and north–south currents between NYHOPS and HF radar were approximately 15 cm s?1. Harmonic analysis of NYHOPS and HF radar surface currents shows similar tidal ellipse parameters for the dominant M2 tide, with a mean difference of 2.4 cm s?1 in the semi-major axis and 1.4 cm s?1 in the semi-minor axis and 3° in orientation and 10° in phase. Surface currents derived independently from drifters along their trajectories showed that NYHOPS and HF radar yielded similarly accurate results. RMS errors when compared to currents derived along the trajectory of the three drifters were approximately 10 cm s?1. Overall, the analysis suggests that NYHOPS and HF radar had similar skill in estimating the currents over the continental shelf waters of the Middle Atlantic Bight during this time period. An ensemble-based set of particle tracking simulations using one drifter which was tracked for 11 days showed that the ensemble mean separation generally increases with time in a linear fashion. The separation distance is not dominated by high frequency or short spatial scale wavelengths suggesting that both the NYHOPS and HF radar currents are representing tidal and inertial time scales correctly and resolving some of the smaller scale eddies. The growing ensemble mean separation distance is dominated by errors in the mean flow causing the drifters to slowly diverge from their observed positions. The separation distance for both HF radar and NYHOPS stays below 30 km after 5 days, and the two technologies have similar tracking skill at the 95 % level. For comparison, the ensemble mean distance of a drifter from its initial release location (persistence assumption) is estimated to be greater than 70 km in 5 days.  相似文献

实际地震波形观测表明,对于大陆结构相对简单的地壳中的地震而言,有一震相出现在P 波和S波之间.一般在30~50 km附近发育得较好,其能量主要集中在径向分量,而垂向分量的振幅相对径向要小,切向分量上的振幅很弱,且波形以低频为主,通常没有P波尖锐.在利用FK方法计算合成地震图的基础上,发现该震相是由S波入射到自由地表形成水平传播的P波(文献称为surface P wave,自由地表P波)或者包括S波入射到地表后形成的多次P波或其散射震相.由于该震相是由S波和P波之间耦合而形成,本文将其定义为sPL(s coupled into P) 震相.理论波形研究表明,sPL相对直达P波的到时差对震中距离不敏感,而随着震源深度的增加几乎呈线性增加,因此可以很好的约束震源深度.本文以2005年江西九江地震为例,证实了sPL确定震源深度的可行性和可靠性.在观测到sPL震相的情况下,离震源50 km以内的一个三分量地震台站的波形就可以帮助获得可靠的震源深度,而不需要精确的震中距离.由于sPL震相出现距离较近,对于较小(三级以上)的地震也可以应用,因此在稀疏台网布局情形下sPL对于确定中小地震深度应该具有很好的应用意义.  相似文献

利用1972年1月1日—2005年12月31日云南省地震遥测台网的地震正式目录,对正式目录中的中强以上地震进行了余震删除。利用已删除余震的正式目录,分析实验场及邻区4.0~4.5级调制地震与中强地震的关系,总结历史震例得到:实验场及邻区发生4.0~4.5级调制地震,其后发生中强以上地震的可能性为81%,平均间隔时间为9.6月,而且中强震发震地点与4.0~4.5级调制地震发震地点相关性较好,平均相隔距离为85 km。  相似文献

目前对震中距在100km左右强地面振动衰减关系的研究有较大分歧,一些模型认为在这个距离附近地震波能量基本不随距离增加而变弱,而另外一些模型认为应该变弱。分歧的关键在于超临界距离上的SmS波能量是否比直达S波和面波强。2008年8月21日,云南盈江发生了MS5.9地震,此前在该地区发生过两次4级以上的前震,且震后发生一系列3级以上余震。畹町台位于离主震100km左右的近南方向,在切向分量记录到了该地震序列清晰的大振幅的SmS震相,其振幅是直达S波的2~5倍,说明在盈江地区超临界震中距范围SmS震相对强地面运动具有很强的控制作用。通过对理论地震图的分析研究表明,SmS震相振幅的大小与当地地壳与Moho面的结构有关,对于地壳结构比较简单的地区,能在Moho面形成很强的反射波,这意味着当破坏性地震发生时,在超临界震中距附近,地壳结构相对简单、有利于SmS发育的地区,强地面运动主要受控于SmS波,由于SmS的振幅大、能量强,地面运动振幅会加大2~3倍,表明在超临界距离的地面振动衰减关系和超临界距离之外的衰减关系有明显差别。  相似文献

Lightning discharges monitored by the SAFIR network system in Poland have been additionally identified over the 100×100 km area near Warsaw by single-point independent recordings of electric field and Maxwell current rapid changes. The data collected in summer thunderstorm days of 2002 showed some untypical properties of the lightning discharges which are rarely observed. Especially remarkable was a number of ground multi-stroke flashes with the return strokes (RS) which transported to the earth charges of opposite signs. Bipolar flashes (BF) of this kind were mostly involved in the events in which the nearby intracloud (ic) and cloud-to-ground (c-g) discharges were very closely associated in time. Events of such a close collocation of two different types of lightning discharges, previously called the complex lightning discharge events (CLDE), were quite often observed during summer thunderstorms in Poland. The events of this kind, i.e. 8 flashes, identified by the SAFIR detection system as BF’s present the multiple stroke flashes of the mean horizontal separation distance between striking points of particular RS equal to (2.8 ± 2.1) km and of the mean time interval between strokes of (46.8 ± 74.4) ms. The time separation between the observed BF and the adjacent ic flashes was from 0.1 to 335 ms, and horizontal separation distance between them ranged from 1.8 to 14.5 km. The multiplicity of the recorded BF’s ranged from 2 to 4 strokes. Four of these BF’s followed the ic discharge, but the other three preceded the ic and one was alone with no close ic.  相似文献

Clouds affect local surface UV irradiance, even if the horizontal distance from the radiation observation site amounts to several kilometers. In order to investigate this effect, which we call remote clouds effect, a 3-dimensional radiative transfer model is applied. Assuming the atmosphere is subdivided into a quadratic based sector and its surrounding, we quantify the influence of changing cloud coverage within this surrounding from 0% to 100% on surface UV irradiance at the sector center. To work out this remote clouds influence as a function of sector base size, we made some calculations for different sizes between 10 km × 10 km and 100 km × 100 km. It appears that in the case of small sectors (base size 20 km × 20 km) the remote clouds effect is highly variable: Depending on cloud structure, solar zenith angle and wavelength, the surface UV irradiance may be enhanced up to 15% as well as reduced by more than 50%. In contrast, for larger sectors it is always the case that enhancements become smaller by 5% if sector base size exceeds 60 km × 60 km. However, these values are upper estimates of the remote cloud effects and they are found only for special cloud structures. Since these structures might occur but cannot be regarded as typical, different satellite observed cloud formations (horizontal resolution about 1 km × 1 km) have also been investigated. For these more common cloud distributions we find remote cloud effects to be distinctly smaller than the corresponding upper estimates, e.g., for a sector with base size of 25 km × 25 km the surface UV irradiance error due to ignoring the actual remote clouds and replacing their influence with periodic horizontal boundary conditions is less than 3%, whereas the upper estimate of remote clouds effect would suggest an error close to 10%.  相似文献

和田地电场台站距离2020年6月26日于田MS6.4地震震中约305 km, 该台不同方位测道之间相关系数均值在0.8左右, 应用多极距原理获知震前两月该台地电场数据中“近场”信息较复杂, 但具有一定程度的可靠性。 计算该台不同极距测道的优势方位角α和不同方位测道间相关系数δNS/NW, 获知震前数月长、 短极距αδNS/NW存在不同的异常现象。 2011—2019年, 和田台周边300 km范围发生了6次MS5.0以上地震, 这种异常现象的差异具有类似特点。 这反映出在同一场地, 地电场长、 短极距观测装置对周边中强地震的映震能力可能存在差异性。  相似文献

稀疏台网下的传统走时定位难以确定中小地震的震源深度,而地震波深度震相蕴含着震源深度信息,为确定地震震源深度提供了新的途径。近震深度震相sPL和直达Pg波到时差与震源深度呈线性关系,可用以约束地震震源深度。本文以珊溪水库2014年震群事件为例,利用单台sPL震相测定了地震震源深度。结果表明:震源深度的测定结果与基于水库台网高密度台站下Pg和Sg走时定位Hyposat方法和全波形拟合CAP方法测定的震源深度高度一致,为4—6 km,与区域活动断层探测结果相符。sPL震相的优势震中距为30—50 km,区域台网范围内sPL与Pg的到时差与震源深度的线性关系相对固定,因此利用单台sPL震相即可快速获取可靠的地震震源深度,适用于稀疏台网下的中小地震震源深度的确定,且误差可控制在1—2 km范围内。   相似文献

The active faults near Tehran are capable of producing Mw magnitudes of 6.62?C7.23; at epicentral distances of 25?km from the active faults, and Mw?=?7.23, the peak ground horizontal acceleration, PGH, is between 386 and 730?cm/s2 and peak ground vertical acceleration, PGV, is between 192 and 261?cm/s2; the historic earthquake of the fourth century BC, Mw?=?7.16 produced the highest estimated PGH acceleration in Tehran, between 254 and 479?cm/s2 and PGV acceleration between 127 and 173?cm/s2. Earthquakes from 1909 to 2008, within 300?km from Tehran, are used for calculation of magnitude frequency relation, and results are applied to estimate PGH and PGV accelerations as a function of magnitudes for a set of fixed epicentral distance and site conditions; also as a function of epicentral distances for a set of fixed magnitudes and site conditions. Poisson??s distribution is used for probability calculation of PGH and PGV accelerations for several exposure times, site conditions and epicentral distances; accelerations with very high probability, near 1, are presented. At an epicentral distance of 10?km and exposure time of 450?years, in the northern part of Tehran, close to Mosha and the Northern Tehran faults, PGH acceleration is 800?C420?cm/s2 and PGV is 400?C220?cm/s2 with high probability. At an epicentral distance of 25?km and 1,000?years exposure time, PGH is 610?C320?cm/s2 and PGV is 310?C160?cm/s2 with high probability, where larger values are for soft soil and smaller values are for hard rock.  相似文献

Slowness data from earthquakes in the Mindanao and Philippine regions recorded at the Warramunga array indicate a small, but abrupt, decrease in dT/dΔ at a distance of 29.5°. There is evidence also of a triplication in the P travel-time curve at about this distance. These data strongly suggest the presence of a rapid or discontinuous velocity increase of about 2% in P-wave velocity at a depth of about 770 km. Such a velocity increase is consistent with the occurrence of more than one phase change between 600 and 900 km, as predicted by the pyrolite model of Ringwood.Previous observations of increasing dT/dΔ with distance may have resulted from the predominance of the 650-km branch as it approaches its cusp. If so, then it is not necessary to invoke a decrease in velocity with depth near 800 km to explain the increase in mdT/dΔ observed between 32–34°.  相似文献

提出震后根据仪器定位的微观震中和断层构造的关系快速确定可能的宏观震中位置,并依此使用烈度经验分布模型来进行震害快速评估。这将提高直接用微观震中位置进行震害快速评估方法的精度。通过对全国133个主要地震的微观震中与宏观震中偏离量进行统计可知。偏离量在35km范围内的占88%,其余基本都在75km范围内。这样就给出了判定宏观震中的重点区域和分析区域。详细分析南北地震带66个震例及其与断层空间分布特征的关系。以及震源机制解结果后发现,影响宏观震中偏离的因素除仪器定位本身的误差外,主要还有断层展布方向、活动规模、断层相互交接特征及震级大小等。通过对这些影响因素的分类处理分析,建立了震后室内快速判定可能的宏观震中位置的原则和步骤。以该方法为基础,通过建立包含有关因素的全国断层数据库,即可在实际的震害快速评估中得以应用。  相似文献

Attenuations of the vertical and horizontal response spectra of the 17 October 1989 Loma Prieta, California, earthquake are developed through analyses of the ground motion at 53 sites within a 100 km radius of the source. The analyses are performed on the spectral ordinates for 16 incremental periods ranging from 0.05 to 2.0 sec. The response spectra are modelled empirically for two different site conditions characterized by rock and stiff-soil geologies. Data analysis is performed by the application of a non-linear multivariate regression procedure allowing for distance and site factor as independent variables. Variation of the vertical-to-horizontal (V/H) spectral ratios with wave frequency and distance shows the same behaviour as observed previously in the widely separated geographic regions of northeastern Taiwan and east-central Iran. The predicted ratios at sites underlain by stiff soil are generally higher than the commonly used value of 2/3 at high frequencies ( > 5 Hz) in the near-source region (R < 30 km), but reduce to 1/2 or less at longer periods and farther distances. This behaviour is also observed at rock sites; however, it is somewhat less pronounced. With a faster attenuation of spectral ordinates at higher frequencies, the shape of the response spectrum is found to change with distance. As expected, the spectral attenuation with distance is generally higher for the vertical spectrum than for the horizontal spectrum. The difference is particularly significant at the higher-frequency end of spectrum. Site amplification factors for stiff soil with respect to rock geology varies between 1.17 and 1.72 for horizontal spectrum and 1.01 and 1.81 for vertical spectrum. Spectral amplifications at four sites underlain by soft soil and artificial fill, are also evaluated. This is done by a comparison of the observed spectra with those predicted for rock geology at corresponding distances. As expected, the resulting amplification factors at soft-soil sites show significant increase relative to those at sites underlain by rock.  相似文献

对沪宁城际铁路CRH动车组运行引起的高架桥段地面振动竖向速度和加速度进行了现场测试,分析了地面振动特征及其传播的衰减规律。结果表明:CRH动车组运行引起的地面振动主频在70Hz以下,属于低频振动;地面振动峰值速度和加速度随着离高架桥距离的增大而减小,20m以内地面振动衰减幅度较大;地面振动峰值随列车时速的提高而增大,车厢数量对地面振动峰值和主频成分的影响不明显;CRH动车组运行引起的地面振动对一般性建筑物影响不大,列车时速为300km左右时,地面振动速度超过办公室等公共建筑的允许值,列车时速为200km左右时,地面振动速度超过居民住宅的允许值;与其他高速铁路的地面振动实测值相比,沪宁城际铁路CRH动车组运行引起的高架桥段地面振动强度相对较低。  相似文献

基于芦山7.0级地震中断层距小于100 km自由场台站的强震动记录观测数据,研究此次地震近断层地震动的方向性特性,并探讨方向性特性与震源破裂机制、断层距离和空间方位的关系.研究结果表明:(1)与距断层较远记录不同,近断层地震动在不同的观测方向上表现出显著的强度差异,存在明显的极大和极小作用方向.在不同的方向上,最大加速度反应可达最小值的4倍以上;(2)这种方向性差异在T=1.0 s以上的长周期段更为明显,在T=0.1 s以下的短周期段,地震动随方向变化的差异较小.地震动强度随方向变化的差异随周期增大而增大,不同方向上的加速度反应谱值的最大值与最小值之比从周期T=0.01 s时的约1.7增大到周期T=10 s时的约2.4;(3)在距离断层约35 km以内,地震动具有明显方向性,地震动卓越方向具有垂直断层走向的特征,随断层距的增大,这种方向性不明显.从不同方向上地震动强度的差异来看,随断层距增大,地震动强度在不同方向上的差异在减小,表现为各个周期的最大值/中值和最大值/最小值比值均随断层距离增大缓慢减小;(4)近断层地震动的方向性特性主要受断层上、下盘的相对运动所控制,其在长周期的卓越方向与水平同震位移方向一致,且该卓越方向上的地震动强度绝对大小与地震破裂造成的静态位移明显相关,表现为地震动强度随水平同震位移的增大而增大.  相似文献

Relative arrival times from 120 mine blasts recorded on the Central Minnesota Seismic Array (CMSA) out to distances of 350 km have been statistically analysed and interpreted to yield a crustal velocity-depth function for the Minnesota area. Velocities increase continuously from 5.9 km s?1 at the surface to 7.4 km s?1 at 40 km depth, with a steepening of the velocity gradient at about 20 km. A long-range refraction profile extending from the Mesabi Iron Range in Northern Minnesota to the seismic array, has also been recorded. A striking feature of the profile is the absence of direct P waves in the distance range 60–120 km. Our preferred explanation for this shadow zone is a fault or fracture zone near x = 60 km. Reflections within the shadow zone have been analysed to give a Moho depth of 42 km under northeastern Minnesota. Teleseismic residuals have been computed for 85 earthquakes recorded on the CMSA. No systematic dependence of the residuals upon azimuth or distance was found. The average residuals agree quantitatively with time delays predicted from earlier upper crustal refraction studies (Mooney et al., 1970).  相似文献

Frequent distance measurements across the Krafla fissure swarm, North Iceland, recorded the extension accompanying the sequence of rifting events which started in December, 1975, and lasted for 6 years.An 80 to 90 km long section of the fissure swarm extended during this sequence of rifting and volcanic events. Maximum widening of about 8 m occurred 10 to 12 km north of Leirhnjúkur. which is located above the center of the Krafla magma reservoir. From that location, the amount of widening decreased north-wards and is estimated to exceed 2 m where the seismicity indicated the northern termination of the present rifting, off the north coast, about 70 km north of Leirhnjúkur. The amount of widening also decreased southwards and approached zero at 15 to 20 km south of Leirhnjúkur.The ground deformation associated with these rifting events can be summarised as:A narrow strip, 1 to 2 km wide, along the fissure swarm is heavily fractured with numerous open cracks parallel to the fissure swarm. This fractured strip has subsided 2 to 3 m relative to its flanks.The flanks of the fractured zone have been uplifted relative to regions farther away. The uplift is not well constrained, but tilt observations at several locations indicate about 1 m uplift. The flanks of the rift zone have contracted, perpendicular to the fissure swarm. The maximum contractional strain exceeds 300 mm per km.The amount of areal expansion (windening of the fissure swarm times the length of the fractured zone) associated with these rifting events is estimated to be about 0.30 km2. For individual events, the area of expansion has been roungly proportional to the volume of subsidence above the Krafla magma reservoir.If the width of a new dike is equal widening of surface fissures, the ratio of the subsidence volume to the area of expansion for the best observed events indicated a height of a new dike system as 2.4 to 2.8 km. This ratio is significantly less for events of large lava production, but even during these events, the majority of magma leaving the Krafla reservoir was apparently emplaced in subsurface fissures.  相似文献
