We present the analysis of 20 years of time‐series BV photometry of the SB1 RS CVn binary HD 89546. The system's yearly mean V brightness, the BV color index, the photometric period, and the light curve amplitude all show clear cyclic variability with an ≈9‐year time scale. We also find some evidence for brightness variability on a time scale longer than the 20‐year time span of our observations, perhaps indicating a longer cycle analogous to the solar Gleissberg cycle. We estimate the unspotted V magnitude of HD 89546 to be 7.m154, which is ≈0.m2 brighter than the observed maximum brightness. Spot modelling of the system shows that spot temperature variations affect the observed BV color as well as the V brightness. Two active longitudes are observed, centered around 180° and 360° longitude on the G9 III primary, each covering a longitude range of 120°. Furthermore, two inactive longitude zones are seen spanning only 60° between the two active longitudes. The longitudinal distribution of the spots exhibits no strong cyclic variability but does show rapid jumps of 120° that look like the flip‐flop phenomenon. We estimate the differential rotation coefficient of the star as k = 0.086 by considering the range of observed photometric period variations and assumed latitudinal spot variations over 45° (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We present and apply a new computer program named SpotModeL to analyze single and multiple bandpass photometric data of spotted stars. It is based on the standard analytical formulae from Budding and Dorren. The program determines the position, size, and temperature of up to three spots by minimizing the fit residuals with the help of the Marquardt‐Levenberg non‐linear least‐squares algorithm. We also expand this procedure to full time‐series analysis of differential data, just as real observations would deliver. If multi‐bandpass data are available, all bandpasses can be treated simultaneously and thus the spot temperature is solved for implicitly. The program may be downloaded and used by anyone. In this paper, we apply our code to an ≈23 year long photometric dataset of the spotted RS CVn giant IM Peg. We extracted and modelled 33 individual light curves, additionally, we fitted the entire V dataset in one run. The resulting spot parameters reflect the long term light variability and reveal two active longitudes on the substellar point and on the antipode. The radius and longitude of the dominant spot show variations with 29.8 and 10.4 years period, respectively. Our multicolour data suggests that the spot temperature is increasing with the brightening of the star. The average spot temperature from V, IC is 3550 ± 150 K or approximately 900 K below the effective temperature of the star.  相似文献

Sinusoidal variations in bothV - andB-bands were detected in some flare stars of the UV Ceti type outside of flares. This detection has confirmed the light variation detection in Johnson'sV -band in EV Lac at quiet-state luminosity by Pettersen (1980) with a cyclic period equals about 4 . d 378 and an amplitude of about 0 . m 07. An interpretation of these short cyclic periods is that they are due to intensity modulations from a photospheric spot group as a result of stellar equatorial rotations. A short period of 14 days with an amplitude of 0 . m 099 was detected inB-band in AD Leo. For the two flare stars, BD+55° 1823 and DO Cep in bothV- andB-bands, cyclic periods of more than 3 days and less than 17 days with amplitudes more than 0 . m 090 and less than 0 . m 250 have been registered. A significant contribution has been found in the flare star EV Lac in bothV- andB-bands at its quiescent-state luminosity where the detected cyclic periods are agreed with that which was detected by Pettersen (1980) in the same flare star in Johnson'sV-band, about 4 days. Furthermore, we found the same cyclic period in the colour index,B - V (about 4 days) which strengthens starspot phenomenon. This colour index period could not be detected by Pettersen (1980).  相似文献

The light outside the eclipses of the totally eclipsing RS CVn binary SV Camelopardalis (SV Cam) is Fourier analysed and the amplitudes of the distortion waves have been derived. The distribution of the percentage contributions of these amplitudes inV, B andU colours with respect to the luminosities of the binary components indicates that the hotter component is the source of the distortion waves. These distortion waves, attributed to star spots, are modelled according to Budding (1977) and spot parameters like longitude, latitude, temperature and size are obtained. From this study it is noticed that while symmetric waves with two minima could be fitted satisfactorily, asymmetric waves with more than two minima could not be fitted well. From the longitudes of the minima of the best fitted curves, migration periods of four spot groups are determined. Assuming synchronism between rotation and orbital periods, the rotation periods of the four spot groups are derived from their migration periods. The period of rotation of one of the spot groups having direct motion is found to be 0d.5934209 while the periods of the other three spot groups having retrograde motion are 0d.5926588, 0d.592607 and 0d.5924688. As the latitudes of these spots are known from modelling parameters, the latitude having a rotation period equal to that of the orbital period (co-rotating latitude) is found to be about 30°  相似文献

We present SALT spectroscopy of a globular cluster in the center of the nearby isolated dSph galaxy KKs3 situated at a distance of 2.12 Mpc. Its heliocentric radial velocity is 316 ± 7 km s–1 that corresponds to VLG = 112 km s–1 in the Local Group (LG) reference frame. We use its distance and velocity along with the data on other 35 field galaxies in the proximity of the LG to trace the local Hubble flow. The following basic properties of the local field galaxies are briefly discusse: morphology, absolute magnitudes, average surface brightnesses, specific star formation rates, and hydrogen mass‐to‐stellar mass ratios. Surprisingly, the sample of the neighboring isolated galaxies displays no signs of compression under the influence of the expanding Local Void. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We have constructed the bolometric light curve of SN 1993J based on UBVRI(JHK) photometric data obtained from various sources and assumingA V = 0 and a distance modulus of 27.6. Effective temperatures and photosphere radius at various times have been obtained from detailed blackbody fits. The bolometric light curve shows two maxima. The short rise time to the second maximum, and the luminosities at the minimum and the second maximum are used to constrain the properties of the progenitor star. The total mass of the hydrogen envelope MH, in the star is found to be ≲ 0.2 M at the time of explosion, and the explosion ejected about 0.05 M of Ni56. Thin hydrogen envelope combined with a sufficient presupernova luminosity suggest that the exploding star was in a binary with a probable period range of 5yr ≤P orb 11yr.  相似文献

Spot photometry in theUBV was obtained for the flare star BY Dra during 1985-1991 at the Bulgarian National Astronomical Observatory. Light curves are presented for 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1991. There are significant variations of the amplitudes of the light curves implying changes of the spot distribution. The phases of the light minima are variable, indicating possible latitudinal migration of the spot and differential rotation. Rough estimate of the corresponding latitudinal shear is in the range 3 × 10–11 –5 × 10–10 rad s–1 deg–1. The photometric behaviour of BY Dra since 1960 shows no compeling evidence for existence of stellar cycles. This is in contradiction with previous studies. During 1985-1991 a total of 38.47 hours of monitoring in theU-filter were obtained. Analysis of the flare activity of BY Dra shows no significant changes from previous studies.  相似文献

We present an analysis of BV R light curves of an eclipsing binary CK Bootis, a system with a very small mass ratio. The light curves appear to exhibit a typical O'Connell effect. The light curves are analyzed by means of the latest version of the WD program. The asymmetry of the light curves is explained by a cool star spot model. The simultaneous BV R synthetic light curve analysis gives a tiny mass ratio of 0.12, an extremely large fill‐out factor of 0.65, and a very small difference between the component temperatures of 90 K. The absolute parameters of the system were also derived by combining the photometric solutions with the radial velocity data. The mass of the secondary is very low (0.15 M) and it continues losing mass. Thirty seven new times of minimum are reported. It is found that the orbital period of the system has a quasi periodic variation, superimposed on a period increase. The long‐term period increase rate is deduced to be dP/dt = 3.54x10–7 d yr–1, which can be interpreted as being due to mass transfer from the less massive star to the more massive component. We present spot models for nine years of continuous VIc photometry of UZ Lib from 1993–2001. The relatively stable double‐humped light curve shape suggests extreme phase coherence. From the spot‐modelling analysis, we found that the major spots or spot groups are always located on the hemisphere facing the secondary star and exactly in the opposite hemisphere anti‐facing the secondary. Several single‐humped light curves and our suggested binary scenario rule out a pure ellipsoidal variability as the cause of the double‐humped light curve shape. We try to explain this preferred spot pattern with a magnetic‐field structure that connects the two components, as suggested earlier for RS CVn stars in general. A possible 4.8 years spot cycle is found from the long‐term brightness variations but needs confirmation. We rediscuss the basic astrophysical data of UZ Lib. The Hipparcos parallax is likely wrong, a possible reason could be that UZ Lib is e.g., a triple system.  相似文献

Sinusoidal variations in Johnson'sB-band of the flare star EV Lac have been confirmed at its quiet state luminosity. The cycle lengths are more than one hour and less than two hours with amplitudes varying from 0 . m 105 to 0 . m 306. These registered cycles have agreed with cycles detected by Mavridis and Varvoglis (1990) and Mavridis (1990). In the same time, the cycles have confirmed the light variation detection in Johnson'sV-band in the same flare star by Pettersen (1980) with a cyclic period equals about 4 . d 378 and an amplitude of about 0 . m 07. Our net results confirm, to some extent, the presence of active region(s) as an origin of stellar flare phenomenon of UV Ceti type flare stars. We can cautiously say that the solar and stellar flare phenomenon have a similar origin.  相似文献

V934 Her is a detached system, consisting of a cool giant and a neutron star. The neutron star accretes matter fromthe stellarwind of the giant.Multicolor photoelectric observationsmade in 1997–2011 revealed a 415-day period, close to that, discovered spectroscopically from radial velocities. This period is considered to be the orbital period of orbital motion of the neutron star around the red giant. The wave with this period in the U-band has the largest amplitude 0m.12. We also detected multiperiodic pulsations of the red giant. The light curve in the V -band is dominated by a pulsation wave with the period of 28.82 days and the amplitude of 0m.10.  相似文献

We report on observations of several transit events of the transiting planet TrES‐2 obtained with the Cassegrain‐Teleskop‐Kamera at the University Observatory Jena. Between March 2007 and November 2008 ten different transits and almost a complete orbital period were observed. Overall, in 40 nights of observation 4291 exposures (in total 71.52 h of observation) of the TrES‐2 parent star were taken. With the transit timings for TrES‐2 from the 34 events published by the TrES‐network, the Transit Light Curve project and the Exoplanet Transit Database plus our own ten transits, we find that the orbital period is P = (2.470614 ± 0.000001) d, a slight change by ∼0.6 s compared to the previously published period. We present new ephemeris for this transiting planet. Furthermore, we found a second dip after the transit which could either be due to a blended variable star or occultation of a second star or even an additional object in the system. Our observations will be useful for future investigations of timing variations caused by additional perturbing planets and/or stellar spots and/or moons (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We study the nature of faint blue compact galaxies (BCGs) at redshifts z ∼ 0.2 - 1.3 using Keck and HST. Despite being very luminous (LB ∼ L*), most distant BCGs have masses M ∼ 1010M, i.e., they are dwarf stellar systems. The majority of these galaxies have colors, sizes, surface brightnesses, luminosities, velocity widths, excitations, star formation rates (SFR), and mass-to-light ratios characteristic of the most luminous nearby HII galaxies. The more massive BCGs form a more heterogeneous class of evolved starburst, similar to local disk starburst galaxies. Without additional star formation, HII-like BCGs will most likely fade to resemble today's spheroidal galaxies such as NGC 205. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Results from optical photometric observations of the PMS star V 1735 Cyg are reported. The star is located in the IC 5146 dark cloud complex—a region of active star formation. On the basis of observed outburst and spectral properties, V 1735 Cyg was classified as a FUor object. We present data from BVRI CCD photometric observations of the star, collected from March 2003 to January 2009. Plates from the Rozhen Schmidt telescope archive were scanned for a brightness estimation of the star. A sequence of sixteen comparison stars in the field of V 1735 Cyg was calibrated in BVRI bands. The data from photographic observations made from 1986 to 1992 show a strong light variability (ΔV=1m2). In contrast, the recent photometric data obtained from 2003 to 2009 show only small amplitude variations (ΔI=0m3). The analysis of existing photometric data shows a very slow decrease in star brightness—1m8 (R) for a 44 year period. The possibilities for future photometric investigations of V 1735 Cyg using the photographical plate archives is discussed briefly.  相似文献

The photoelectricV observations of the Scuti star 59 Aur have been analysed using the techniques of periodogram analysis and least-squares solutions. The fundamental mode is found to be more prominent than the first overtone in the pulsation of 59 Aur. The period ratio of the first overtone to the fundamental (i.e.,P 1/P 0=0.748) indicates that the star pulsates in the radial mode. The absolute magnitude, effective temperature and mass of the star are derived to be 1 . m 22, 7300 K and 2.0M , respectively. No variations exceeding±0 . m 01 about the mean values ofB-V andU-B colours have been found during a pulsation cycle.  相似文献

A comparison is made between a hot-spot model and a recently proposed oblate spheroid model (Böhm-Vitense & Van Dyk 1987) to explain the spectroscopic and photometric variations of α2 CVn. It is found that the spot model gives a better fit to the spectroscopic and photometric variations. The spot model requires five high temperature circular patches over the surface of the star. The positions of these patches agree well with those derived spectroscopically by Pyper (1969).  相似文献

We present a photometric study of three chromospherically active stars with long periods (V340 Gem, SAO 62042 and FI Cnc). The observations were made at the ÇOMU Observatory in 2006 and 2007. We have made initial photometric analyses of V340 Gem and SAO 62042, which are newly discovered RS CVn–type SB1 binaries, and established the photometric variations of FI Cnc, which is a single G8III active star. Photometric rotation periods of these stars were obtained by analyzing their light variations. The light variations, observed over three or more consecutive orbital cycles, were investigated by using spot models with the program SPOT. We also discussed the surface differential rotation coefficient for the primary component of the SB1 binary star SAO 62042 in this study, using our own photometric period together with an orbital period taken from the literature.  相似文献

The period variations of TV Cassiopeiae between 1901 and 1977 are discussed in the light of the period change model proposed by Biermann and Hall. During each period decrease 4.0×10–6 M of mass is transferred from the secondary star to the primary. The average observable mass transfer rate is found to be 4.3×10–7 M yr–1. This average rate corresponds to the thermal time-scale of the mass-losing star.  相似文献

We present differential Hα and Hβ photometry of the very bright RS CVn‐binary α Aurigae (Capella)obtained with theVienna automatic photoelectric telescope in the years 1996 through 2000. Low‐level photometric variations of up to 0m.04 are detected in Hα. A multifrequency analysis suggests two real periods of 106 ± 3 days and 8.64 ± 0.09 days, that we interpret to be the rotation periods of the cool and the hot component of the Capella binary, respectively. These periods confirm that the hotter component of Capella rotates asynchronously, while the cooler component appears to be synchronized with the binary motion. The combined Hα data possibly contains an additional period of 80.4 days that we, however, believe is either spurious and was introduced due to seasonal amplitude variations or stems from a time‐variable circumbinary mass flow. The rotational periods result in stellar radii of 14.3 ± 4.6 R and 8.5 ± 0.5 R for the cool and hot component, respectively, and are in good agreement with previously published radii based on radiometric and interferometric techniques. The long‐period eclipsing binary Aurigae served as our check star, and we detected complex light variations outside of eclipse of up to 0m.15 in H α and 0m.20 in Hβ. Our frequency analysis suggests the existence of at least three significant periods of 132, 89, and 73 days. One of our comparison stars (HD 33167, F5V) was discovered to be a very‐low amplitude variable with a period of 2.6360 ± 0.0055 days.  相似文献

The peculiar combination of a relatively short pulse period and a relatively weak surface dipole magnetic field strength of binary radio pulsars finds a consistent explanation in terms of (i) decay of the surface dipole component of neutron-star magnetic fields on a timescale of (2–5) × 106 yr, in combination with (ii) spin-up of the rotation of the neutron star during a subsequent mass-transfer phase. The four known binary radio pulsars appear to fall into two different categories. Two of them, PSR 0655 + 64 and PSR 1913 + 16, have short orbital periods (<25 h) and high mass functions, indicating companion masses 0.7M⊙ (∼1 (± 0.3) M⊙ and 1.4 M⊙, respectively). The other two, PSR 0820 + 02 and PSR 1953 + 29, have long orbital periods (117d), nearly circular orbits, and low, almost identical mass functions of about 3×10-3 M⊙, suggesting companion masses of about 0.3M⊙. It is pointed out that these two classes of systems are expected to be formed by the later evolution of binaries consisting of a neutron star and a normal companion star, in which the companion was (considerably) more massive than the neutron star, or less massive than the neutron star, respectively. In the first case the companion of the neutron star in the final system will be a massive white dwarf, in a circular orbit, or a neutron star in an eccentric orbit. In the second case the final companion to the neutron star will be a low-mass (∼ 0.3 M⊙) helium white dwarf in a wide and nearly circular orbit. In systems of the second type the neutron star was most probably formed by the accretion-induced collapse of a white dwarf. This explains in a natural way why PSR 1953 + 29 has a millisecond rotation period and PSR 0820 + 02 has not. Among the binary models proposed for the formation of the 1.5-millisecond pulsar, the only ones that appear to be viable are those in which the companion disappeared by coalescence with the neutron star. In such models the companion may have been a red dwarf of mass 0.03M⊙, a neutron star, or a massive (>0.7M⊙) white dwarf. Only in the last-mentioned case is a position of the pulsar close to the galactic plane a natural consequence. In the first-mentioned case the progenitor system most probably was a cataclysmic-variable binary in which the white dwarf collapsed by accretion.  相似文献
