Operational discharges of hydrocarbons from maritime activities can have major cumulative impacts on marine ecosystems. Small quantities of oil (i.e., 10 ml) results in often lethally reduced thermoregulation in seabirds. Thin sheens of oil and drilling fluids form around offshore petroleum production structures from currently permissible operational discharges of hydrocarbons. Methodology was developed to measure feather microstructure impacts (amalgamation index or AI) associated with sheen exposure. We collected feather samples from two common North Atlantic species of seabirds; Common Murres (Uria aalge) and Dovekies (Alle alle). Impacts were compared after feather exposure to crude oil and synthetic lubricant sheens of varying thicknesses. Feather weight and microstructure changed significantly for both species after exposure to thin sheens of crude oil and synthetic drilling fluids. Thus, seabirds may be impacted by thin sheens forming around offshore petroleum production facilities from discharged produced water containing currently admissible concentrations of hydrocarbons. 相似文献

Offshore oil and gas activities may lead to a conflict between the protection of the marine environment and health and safety aspects. Priority given to the protection of the marine environment may have an impact on the health or safety of the people working offshore and/or the integrity of the offshore installation. Previous health and safety protection measures are now known to create large-scale effects on the environment, e.g. the application of polychlorinated biphenyls as a cooling medium in transformers and the application of the ozone-depleting halons for efficient fire protection. Risk assessment, taking all health and safety aspects into account, may be the primary mechanism to justify operational procedures agreed by the national authorities as well as by the Exploration and Production industry. Risk assessment of health and safety aspects uses several models which are applied when designing new offshore installations. Several models, which have been developed in the last couple of years, are now available for the assessment of the environmental risk. This paper considers the need for the application of risk assessment with respect to all aspects, health, safety and environment, in order to determine a balanced set of priorities and protection measures. 相似文献

海底地震仪(Ocean Bottom Seismograph,OBS)技术是近年发展起来的主要用于海洋地震监测、海底结构调查和海洋油气资源勘探的地球物理技术,其发展前景与OBS仪器本身的发展及OBS数据处理技术的进展息息相关.目前,OBS数据处理主要采用广角地震测深数据处理方法,辅以天然地震层析成像技术,并最终反演深部速度结构.本文简要概括了OBS的发展历程;并以2010年和2011年渤海海陆联测中两条OBS测线的实际数据处理以及部分学者在OBS数据处理中所取得的进展为实例详细介绍了OBS数据处理流程中的频谱分析及其应用,环境噪音分析,增益、带通滤波和反褶积等常规处理,对间校正,震相拾取及反演处理;对OBS在海洋油气资源探测中的应用情况和发展趋势进行了讨论.通过频谱分析发现气枪信号优势频带范围为3~15 Hz,OBS垂直分量近偏移距频谱能客观反映OBS与海底的耦合情况;通过噪音分析发现OBS记录的噪音强度与水深和偏移距成反比,并与海底沉积环境密切相关.OBS数据处理方法与平台建设任重道远,也是OBS技术更早进入油气资源探测领域的关键环节之一,应进行深入研究. 相似文献

The cumulative effect of accidental spills from oil and gas extraction in the marine environment can have significant impacts on marine wildlife. Oil and gas operators are typically required to report spill data as part of a regulatory process. We conducted a survey of the public disclosure of hydrocarbon spill data for four countries, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and United States. There was significant variation in the spill data statistics that were publicly reported by the regulators. No country provided full disclosure of spill data or follow-up actions taken by the regulator on their website. The lack of disclosure of spill data is of concern because the scale of environmental effects is more difficult to assess, insufficient information is available to assess the accuracy of predictions made in the environmental assessment process, and without consistency of spill reporting there is no method to compare regional differences of spill rates. 相似文献

The growth of maritime transport and oil exploitation activities may increase the risk of oil spills. Thus, plans and actions to prevent or mitigate impacts are needed to minimize the effects caused by oil. However, tools used worldwide to support contingency plans have not been integrated, thus leading to failure in establishing priority areas. This investigation aimed to develop indices of environmental vulnerability to oil (IEVO), by combining information about environmental sensibility to oil and results of numerical modeling of spilled oil. To achieve that, a case study concerning to oil spills scenarios in a subtropical coastal area was designed, and IEVOs were calculated and presented in maps, in order to make the information about the areas’ vulnerability more easily visualized. For summer, the extension of coastline potentially affected by oil was approximately 150 km, and most of the coastline presented medium to high vulnerability. For winter, 230 km coastline would be affected, from which 75% were classified as medium to high vulnerability. Thus, IEVO maps allowed a rapid and clearer interpretation of the vulnerability of the mapped region, facilitating the planning process and the actions in response to an oil spill. 相似文献

A dynamic–thermodynamic sea ice model has been coupled to a three-dimensional ocean general circulation model for the purpose of conducting ocean climate dynamical downscaling experiments for the Barents Sea region. To assess model performance and suitability for such an application, the coupled model has been used to conduct a hindcast for the period 1990–2002. A comparison with available observations shows that the model successfully tracks seasonal and inter-annual variability in the ocean temperature field and that the simulated horizontal and vertical distribution of temperature are in good agreement with observations. The model results follow the seasonal and inter-annual variability in sea ice cover in the region, with the exception that the model results show too much ice melting in the northern Barents Sea during summer. The spatial distribution of the winter simulated sea ice cover is in close agreement with observations. Modelled temperatures and ice concentrations in the central Barents Sea are biased too high and too low, respectively. The probable cause is too high inflow of Atlantic Water into the Barents. The seasonal and inter-annual fluctuations in temperature and sea ice cover in the central Barents are, however, in excellent agreement with observations. Salt release during the freezing process in the numerical simulation exhibits considerable inter-annual variability and tends to vary in an opposite manner to the net inflow volume flux at the western entrance of the Barents Sea. Overall, the model produces realistic ice-ocean seasonal and inter-annual variability and should prove to be a useful tool for dynamical downscaling applications. 相似文献

The earthquakes offshore Fujian and Guangdong Provinces concentrated along the two segments near Nan’ao in the south and Quanzhou
in the north of the off coast fault, which is very active since the late Pleistocene. In 1918 and 1906, two earthquakes with
magnitudes 7.3 and 6.1 respectively occurred in the south and the north regions. With the instrumentally determined seismic
parameters of these two earthquakes as standards, the author evaluated the parameters of the historical earthquakes by comparing
their macroseismic materials with consideration of the geological background. As a result, chronological tables of historical
earthquakes of the south and the north regions were compiled.
The seismic activity of the two regions synchronized basically, and their strongest recorded earthquakes were both aroundM
s 7.3. Seismic activity usually intensified before the occurrence of strong events. Aftershocks were frequent, but strong aftershocks
usually occurred one to several years after the main shock. Two high tides of seismic activity occurred since the late 15th
century. Around 1600, eight earthquakes each with magnitudes over 4.3 occurred in both of the two regions. The magnitude of
the strongest shock in the south region is 6.7, that in the north region is 7.5. The second high tide occurred at the early
20th century. Among the 18 earthquakes occurred in the south region, one was of magnitude 7.3; whilst only two earthquakes
with magnitudes 6.1 and 5.5 respectively occurred in the north region. Further, medium to strong earthquakes never occurred
since 1942. Whether this is the “mitigation effect” of strong shocks, or a big earthquake is brewing in the north region is
worth intensive study.

In this study, compositional characteristics of crude oil, including the variation of aliphatic, aromatic and pyrrolic nitrogen compounds, were systematically monitored and investigated in a high water-cut oil reservoir over a short time.The results showed that among the widely used parameters indicative of oil maturity and migration, tetramethyl/monomethyl DBT and tricyclic terpane/(tricyclic terpane+C30 hopanoid) varied remarkably, and a positive correlation was observed between these two parameters.The variation of each of these parameters during waterflooding development was correlated with the flow effect of crude promoted by the water drive in oil reservoirs.A solid consistency was observed among the results of numerical simulation and development; the direction and pathway of waterflooding crude was indicated by Tetramethyl/monomethyl DBT, and the distribution region prediction of remaining oil hereby obtained.Therefore, these two parameters could be used as molecular tracers for the oil during waterflooding.This study would be of practical significance for geochemical dynamic monitoring and reservoir development. 相似文献

A large-scale field experiment took place in the marginal ice zone in the Barents Sea in May 2009. Fresh oil (7000 L) was released uncontained between the ice floes to study oil weathering and spreading in ice and surface water. A detailed monitoring of oil-in-water and ice interactions was performed throughout the six-day experiment. In addition, meteorological and oceanographic data were recorded for monitoring of the wind speed and direction, air temperature, currents and ice floe movements. The monitoring showed low concentrations of dissolved hydrocarbons and the predicted acute toxicity indicated that the acute toxicity was low. The ice field drifted nearly 80 km during the experimental period, and although the oil drifted with the ice, it remained contained between the ice floes. 相似文献

In West Bohemia in the period of 2003–2005 five permanent GPS stations were established to detect local movement trends. Their
mutual position changes were determined from time series of GPS observations and were associated with seismic, gravity, and
geo-scientific data related to the geodynamics of the West Bohemian region. Knowledge of local physical processes based on
spatial and time earthquake occurrences, focal mechanisms of main events, stress and strain fields set up a tool for recent
seismotectonic analyses. The permanent GPS measurements bring independent effective phenomenon, direct monitoring of site
movements. The movements detected by our GPS stations evidenced WSW-ENE extension with subsiding trends in the western part
of the Cheb Basin and the Smrčiny Mts. Besides, there were monitored dextral movements along the Mariánské Lázně tectonic
fault zone (MLF). A comparison of results with previous data formed a presumption that an antithetic stress pattern has to
exist inside the inner part of the MLF tectonic zone. This antithetic stress can explain the coexistence of dextral and sinistral

The Barents Sea has one of the highest levels of biological production of all the world's oceans, and holds some of the largest fish stocks and concentrations of seabirds. Environmental conditions in the area make it particularly vulnerable to damage from human activities. Given the vulnerability of this ecosystem to the effects of human activity, and the fact that physical factors (e.g. reduced visibility, ice) increase risks due to oil exploitation and shipping activities, environmental authorities will work towards more stringent discharge limits and higher standards for emergency preparedness for both oil exploitation and shipping in the Barents Sea. The Norwegian Pollution Control Authority gives priority to preventive measures that can lower the probability of accidents and particular emphasis will be given to conditions attached to production licences and controls on activities in areas that have not yet been opened for petroleum activities. Within the Arctic Environmental Protection Strategy (the Rovaniemi-process), Norway has proposed that efforts should be made to improve the protection of Arctic marine areas, and further that a working group including representatives of all the Arctic countries should assess various legal instruments and possible measures, and make recommendations for action. Currently, no special international requirements apply to ships sailing in ice-infested waters, and the recommendations from the working group will therefore be of great importance in protecting the area from damage from shipping. 相似文献

The tectonic structure and anomalous distributions of geophysical fields of the Sea of Okhotsk region are considered; the lack of reliable data on the age of the lithosphere beneath basins of various origins in the Sea of Okhotsk is noted. Model calculations based on geological and geophysical data yielded an age of 65 Ma (the Cretaceous-Paleocene boundary) for the Central Okhotsk rise underlain by the continental lithosphere. This estimate agrees with the age (the end of the Cretaceous) derived from seismostratigraphic data. A comparative analysis of theoretical and measured heat fluxes in the Akademii Nauk Rise, underlain by a thinned continental crust, is performed. The analysis points to a higher (by 20%) value of the measured thermal background of the rise, which is consistent with a high negative gradient of gravity anomalies in this area. Calculations yielded an age of 36 Ma (the Early Oligocene) and a lithosphere thickness of 50 km for the South Okhotsk depression, whose seafloor was formed by processes of backarc spreading. The estimated age of the depression is supported by kinematic data on the region; the calculated thickness of the lithosphere coincides with the value estimated from data of magnetotelluric sounding here. This indicates that the formation time (36 Ma) of the South Okhotsk depression was estimated correctly. Numerical modeling performed for the determination of the basement age of rifting basins in the Sea of Okhotsk gave the following estimates: 18 Ma (the Early Miocene) for the Deryugin basin, 12 Ma (the Middle Miocene) for the TINRO basin, and 23 Ma (the Late Oligocene) for the West Kamchatka trough. These estimates agree with the formation time (Oligocene-Quaternary) of the sedimentary cover in rifting basins of the Sea of Okhotsk derived from geological and geophysical data. Model temperature estimates are obtained for lithologic and stratigraphic boundaries of the sedimentary cover in the Deryugin and TINRO basins and the West Kamchatka trough; the temperature analysis indicates that the latter two structures are promising for oil and hydrocarbon gas generation; the West Kamchatka trough possesses better reservoir properties compared to the TINRO and Deryugin basins. The latter is promising for the generation of hydrocarbon gas. Paleogeodynamic reconstructions of the Sea of Okhotsk region evolution are obtained for times of 90, 66, and 36 Ma on the basis of kinematic, geomagnetic, structural, tectonic, geothermal, and other geological and geophysical data. 相似文献

利用油气藏潮汐重力异常直接找油是近年从俄罗斯引进的方法,但这一方法的原理在国内研究得很少,其有效性和可靠性还没有得到充分的论证.本文对油藏潮汐重力的形成机制、潮汐重力的观测和数据处理方法进行了研究.理论计算表明,油藏潮汐重力异常在微伽量级,而实际资料表明潮汐重力的观测误差为10μGal量级,油藏潮汐重力异常可能会被噪声淹没,所以没有观测到潮汐重力异常不等于地下没有油气;实际观测的潮汐重力异常可达数十μGal,即使超过观测误差的3倍,也不能将它直接归因于油藏产生的潮汐重力异常.例如:潮汐重力改正的误差可能达到数十μGal,对有效异常形成干扰. 相似文献
