In this paper, the distinct element method is used in order to predict the earthquake response of a multi‐drum marble model of a classical column. The results are compared with experimental data for an ‘identical’ specimen under the same excitation. Both the numerical analysis and the experiments were conducted in three dimensions. The results show that the distinct element method can capture quite well the main features of the response, in spite of the sensitivity of the response to even small perturbations of the characteristics of the structure or the excitation. Attention, however, should be given to the appropriate values of the joint properties to be used. In any case, it seems that the method can be used with confidence in the restoration process of ancient monuments, in order to estimate the response to expected earthquake motions. The problem of stability of an initially straight, simple column which is subjected to dynamic overload due to the vertical component of ground acceleration during an earthquake is considered. The time history of this component of earthquake, its maximum absolute amplitude and a Liapunov's function are used to define a sufficient condition under which the column will always be stable. It is shown for the case of a simple column that this condition implies that the column will be stable as long as the maximum load which the column is subjected to is less than the Euler buckling load during an earthquake.  相似文献

The object of this paper is to introduce a procedure for the determination of elastic design earthquake input energy spectra taking into account the influence of magnitude, soil type and distance from the surface projection of the fault. Firstly, an accurate selection of a large set of representative records has been realized. Secondly, the construction of the design input energy spectra has required determining the spectral shapes and a normalization factor which measures seismic hazard in terms of energy. This factor, denoted as the seismic hazard energy factor, has been defined as the area under the earthquake input energy spectrum in the period interval between 0·05 and 4·0 s. Finally, due to the importance of the source-to-site distance in the evaluation of the input energy, an investigation into the attenuation of the seismic hazard energy factor has been carried out. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Earthquake ground motion records are nonstationary in both amplitude and frequency content. However, the latter nonstationarity is typically neglected mainly for the sake of mathematical simplicity. To study the stochastic effects of the time‐varying frequency content of earthquake ground motions on the seismic response of structural systems, a pair of closely related stochastic ground motion models is adopted here. The first model (referred to as ground motion model I) corresponds to a fully nonstationary stochastic earthquake ground motion model previously developed by the authors. The second model (referred to as ground motion model II) is nonstationary in amplitude only and is derived from the first model. Ground motion models I and II have the same mean‐square function and global frequency content but different features of time variation in the frequency content, in that no time variation of the frequency content exists in ground motion model II. New explicit closed‐form solutions are derived for the response of linear elastic SDOF and MDOF systems subjected to stochastic ground motion model II. New analytical solutions for the evolutionary cross‐correlation and cross‐PSD functions between the ground motion input and the structural response are also derived for linear systems subjected to ground motion model I. Comparative analytical results are presented to quantify the effects of the time‐varying frequency content of earthquake ground motions on the structural response of linear elastic systems. It is found that the time‐varying frequency content in the seismic input can have significant effects on the stochastic properties of system response. Dynamic stability of elastic multistorey frame structures subjected to vertical earthquake ground accelerations is studied. Different stationary, non-stationary, white and non-white random models for earthquake strong motion are considered. The concepts of mean-square and almost-sure stability are reviewed and the corresponding stability theorems are presented. Several general criteria regarding the dynamic stability of the equilibrium state of multistorey frames subjected to random excitations are developed. A few examples concerning the stability of single and multi-degree-of-freedom structures under earthquake excitations are presented. The stability of motion of frames under combined horizontal–vertical acceleration is also briefly discussed.  相似文献

本文提出了双规准反应谱的概念。在统计了美国西部大量强震记录的基础上,分别研究了规准反应谱和双规准反应谱的特性,并进行了详细的对比分析。研究结果表明,双规准反应谱比通常的规准反应谱有更好的规律性,这不仅有利于认识地震动的特性,还可使基于场地的抗震设计反应谱大大简化,更便于广大工程设计人员应用。  相似文献

本文在统计了大量强震记录的基础上,分别研究了双规准加速度反应谱和双规准速度反应谱的特性,进行了对比分析,并分别得出了定量分析的结果。研究结果表明,双规准加速度反应谱在短周期段有很好的统一性,而双规准速度反应谱在长周期段的统一性较好,这种规律性对于认识地震动的特性、改进抗震设计反应谱具有重要的意义。  相似文献

An enhanced reduced model is proposed for elastic earthquake response analysis of a class of mono-symmetric shear building structures with constant eccentricity. The proposed reduction method consists of two parts. The first stage is the construction of a reduced structural model with the degrees of freedom at representative floor levels only. In this stage, an inverse eigenmode-problem formulation is used to guarantee the limited equivalence between the original model and the reduced model. The reduced model is constructed so as to have the same fundamental natural frequency and the same lowest-mode component ratios at the representative floor levels as those of the original model. The second stage is the transformation of earthquake input forces into a set of reduced input forces. This transformation utilizes the static equivalence of lateral-torsional stiffness between these two models and is introduced to enhance the accuracy level of the reduced model. Several examples of a three-dimensional mono-symmetric ten-story shear building model with constant eccentricity are presented to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposed reduction method for earthquake response analysis.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical investigation on the seismic response of multidrum classical columns. The motivation for this study originates from the need to understand: (a) the level of ground shaking that classical multidrum columns can survive, and (b) the possible advantages or disadvantages of retrofitting multidrum columns with metallic shear links that replace the wooden poles that were installed in ancient times. The numerical study presented in this paper is conducted with the commercially available software Working Model 2D?, which can capture with fidelity the sliding, rocking, and slide‐rocking response of rigid‐body assemblies. This paper validates the software Working Model by comparing selected computed responses with scarce analytical solutions and the results from in‐house numerical codes initially developed at the University of California, Berkeley, to study the seismic response of electrical transformers and heavy laboratory equipment. The study reveals that relative sliding between drums happens even when the g‐value of the ground acceleration is less than the coefficient of friction, µ, of the sliding interfaces and concludes that: (a) typical multidrum classical columns can survive the ground shaking from strong ground motions recorded near the causative faults of earthquakes with magnitudes Mw=6.0–7.4; (b) in most cases multidrum classical columns free to dislocate at the drum interfaces exhibit more controlled seismic response than the monolithic columns with same size and slenderness; (c) the shear strength of the wooden poles has a marginal effect on the sliding response of the drums; and (d) stiff metallic shear links in‐between column drums may have an undesirable role on the seismic stability of classical columns and should be avoided. 研究以绵阳市为例,选取城市人口密度、固定应急避难场所服务区范围、派出所服务区范围、医院服务区范围、消防队服务区范围及重大危险源爆炸范围等6项基本因子,利用GIS技术和层次分析法(AHP)对城市地震灾后应急能力进行研究。得到的绵阳市地震灾后应急能力主要结论有2个。(1)处于中低灾害应对能力的区域占总研究区面积的60.28%,表明:绵阳市二环路内整体灾害应急能力偏低,防灾减灾风险较大。(2)灾后应急能力较弱的地区主要为园艺山片区、南河片区、小枧片区以及二环路东西沿线。研究成果可为绵阳市制定城市专项防灾规划提供指导和建议,研究分析方法亦可为国内其他城市的防灾研究提供借鉴。  相似文献

A mathematical model for the response spectra is determined using statistical analysis. The form of the model is first established using fifty computer simulated accelerograms. The final form is then used on twenty-five accelerograms from fifteen past United States earthquakes. This model smooths out peaks and valleys which are characteristic of the response spectrum of any single earthquake. Thus it serves as a ‘smooth design spectrum’ and can be used to approximate structural response to a future seismic event.  相似文献

A new procedure for combining the response spectra of two horizontal components of recorded ground motion is presented. The presented formulation accounts for different orientations of accelerometer sensors and derives the maximum and the expected (mean) horizontal response spectra at a site, both of which are invariant to rotation of sensor axes. The maximum response spectrum is derived as the peak resultant response of single degree of freedom oscillators subjected to the as-recorded ground acceleration. The expected spectrum is derived by projecting the displacement response (due to as-recorded motion) along two orthogonal axes to a principal axes in which the displacement responses are uncorrelated. This property is used to formulate an approximation for the expected response spectrum over all possible sensor orientations. A large set of accelerometric data from Europe and the Middle East is used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed response spectral measures.  相似文献

为了考察外部激励群延时对反应谱的影响,分别从确定性的角度和统计的角度分析了群延时对线性单自由度结构体系位移响应最大值的影响。推导出了对应于给定单自由度结构体系在任意外部激励作用下最大位移响应的群延时。据此可以利用任意外部激励的群延时与结构体系的最大位移响应群延时的关系评估体系在该外部激励作用下位移响应峰值的大小。统计分析的结果表明:激励群延时的均值和方差对结构体系位移响应最大值的影响具有明显的规律性;激励群延时的分布频数与结构体系最大位移响应之间也存在着显著的关系。  相似文献

2021年5月22日青海省玛多县发生了M7.4地震,造成玛多县境内的野马滩1、2号桥破坏,其主要表现为桥梁纵向位移过大导致多跨主梁落梁,桥墩也有不同程度的破损.经现场专家鉴定,地震影响烈度均突破桥梁抗震设计值,并且初步判断这种整齐划一的落梁震害的机理系近断层地震动方向性效应的强速度脉冲作用所致.野马滩大桥位置的地震影响烈度调查结果为Ⅸ,但是野马滩大桥附近无强震动观测台站,大桥附近没有获得地震动记录,这不利于野马滩大桥地震作用下地震响应和破坏机理的研究.另外,野马滩大桥的设计参数和折损情况也很难掌握,桥梁模型难以准确估计.为此,本文拟采用另一座同等抗震设防烈度的桥梁,通过有限元程序,使用反应谱法作为参考,同时使用拟合的地震动和脉冲记录进行桥梁结构反应时程分析,以便间接地揭示玛多地震桥梁地震反应特征和破坏机理.计算结果分析表明,所分析的桥梁结构地震响应位移和内力均超过罕遇地震设计值,其中一条地震动记录最大反应接近极罕遇设计值,导致桥梁结构出现破坏甚至损毁震害现象的出现.  相似文献

The seismic response of free‐standing classical columns is analysed numerically through implementation of the distinct element method. Typical sections of two ancient temples are modelled and studied parametrically, in order to identify the main factors affecting the stability and to improve our understanding of the earthquake behaviour of such structures. The models were first subjected to harmonic base motions. The analysis showed that, for frequencies usually encountered in earthquake motions, intact multi‐drum free‐standing columns can withstand large amplitude harmonic excitations without collapse. The dynamic resistance decreases rapidly as the period of the harmonic excitation increases. Imperfections, such as initial tilt of the column or loss of contact area due to edge damage, also reduce the stability of the system significantly. The effects of such imperfections could be additive and the cumulative effect of many imperfections may render deteriorating abandoned monuments vulnerable to earthquakes. The response of more complete sections of the temple, such as two columns coupled with an architrave, did not deviate systematically from that of the single multi‐drum column or indeed of the equivalent single block. Therefore, a much simpler single block analysis can be used to size‐up the seismic threat to the monument. The model of the column of the Temple of Apollo at Bassae was also tested under recorded earthquake motions by scaling‐up the acceleration amplitude progressively until collapse of the column. It was found that the columns are particularly vulnerable to long‐period impulsive earthquake motions. A comparison of the instability thresholds associated with harmonic excitations and earthquake motions throws more light onto the dynamic response: it appears that around three cycles of monochromatic excitation at the predominant period of the expected earthquake motions lead to a gross prediction of the stability of a classical column during an earthquake.
