Detailed sedimentological facies analysis of the fluvio-deltaic Millstone Grit succession (Upper Carboniferous) of South Wales reveals that a number of cyclothems bounded by marine flooding surfaces (marine bands) in these strata exhibit facies architectures that represent erosion, non-deposition and/or deposition during periods of falling relative sea-level. A major fluvial complex below the Subcrenatum Marine Band, the Farewell Rock, lies within an incised valley, with a regional unconformity (sequence boundary) at its base. This unconformity is marked by deep erosional relief, an identifiable time gap and an angular discordance in bedding. The Cumbriense Quartzite, a correlative unit containing several mature palaeosols, records a depositional hiatus on a terrace-like interfluve that lay beyond the margins of the coeval Farewell Rock valley. Cyclothems in the underlying Middle Shales contain additional surfaces and units of subtler character. Beneath the Cancellatum Marine Band, a thin (15 cm), calcareous siltstone bed (the ‘Amroth Granule Bed’) that directly overlies prodelta shales contains reworked bioclasts, bored phosphorite clasts and quartz granules. Quartz granules in this bed are interpreted to represent relict lowstand, fluviatile? deposits, which were reworked during later transgression. Three further cyclothems contain sharp-based, storm-reworked mouth bars that record an abrupt lowering of wave base, most probably during periods of falling relative sea-level. One of these cyclothems also contains a distributary channel complex, which records an abrupt influx of coarse-grained sediment of ambiguous origin. The significance of these subtle surfaces and units for intracyclothem stratigraphy has rarely been considered; their prevalence in the Middle Shales provides evidence for numerous, high-frequency relative sea-level falls, which were previously unrecognized. These relative sea-level falls appear to alternate coherently with the widespread sea-level rises recorded by the marine bands, suggesting that glacio-eustasy is their most likely driving mechanism. The notion of glacio-eustatic sea-level falls is supported by the correlation of the basal Farewell Rock sequence boundary with sequence boundaries documented in adjacent basins. The angular unconformity and a change in sediment provenance at the base of the Farewell Rock, however, suggest an additional tectonic control on stratigraphic architecture here, namely a short-lived phase of rifting or inversion prior to widespread fluvial incision. 在油田开发中,地层划分与对比是十分重要的研究内容,从油田开发到调整等各个阶段,对地层划分与对比的要求越来越高。但油田地下资料是有限的,第一,当井网密度达到一定程度时,不是可以无限制加密的;第二,油田所能获取的占绝对优势的地下信息是通过测井,而测井分辨率又是有限的。所以,高分辨率层序地层学被广泛应用和发展的过程中,野外露头研究是必不可少的。笔者以露头资料为研究对象,对露头区扇三角洲高频层序、准层序、准层序组的剖面识别标志进行了总结,定量研究了不同成因类型砂体的分布规律、几何形态、内部结构和非均质性。把高分辨率层序界面的露头标志向井下岩心和测井信息进行转化,并在露头研究的基础上总结层序地层对比的一般原则。  相似文献

华北地台在晚寒武世为一个较为典型的缓坡型台地。在其北部地层中,以发育风暴砾屑灰岩及生物丘灰岩闻名,包括崮山组、长山组和凤山组。在该套地层中,深缓坡相泥岩和泥灰岩与浅缓坡相颗粒灰岩和泥粒灰岩一起构成若干潮下型碳酸盐米级旋回,这些米级旋回本身即为有序的异成因岩相序列而成为基本工作单元。在长周期三级层序中,米级旋回形成有序垂直叠加形式,反映了三级层序本身是一个与三级相对海平面变化相关的、环境加深和变浅过程中所形成的沉积相序列。根据这些特征,在华北地台北部晚寒武世地层中可识别出4个三级层序。从北向南,相变为一套白云岩,其中三级层序的高水位体系域则发育较多的潮坪相白云岩以及由其构成的环潮坪型米级旋回。这些层序的典型特征是:层序界面为淹没不整合面,层序的相序序列以"深缓坡相-浅缓坡相"为特征,从而构成特殊的"CS(?)+HST"序列;而在华北地台南部,层序界面多为暴露间断面,层序的相序组构多以"缓坡相-潮坪相"为特征。从北向南的变化,形成了一个富有规律性的层序地层格架。从旋回到层序、从岩相序列到沉积相序列的层序地层研究表明:作为基本工作单元,米级旋回实际上是由"间断-加积作用"旋回机制所形成的岩相序列,由米级旋回的有序叠加形式所构成的三级层序则是一个沉积相序列。由各剖面点的古水深变化曲线,可以定性地综合出华北地台晚寒武世的海平面变化曲线。与北美晚寒武世海平面变化曲线相对比,既存在相似性更存在差异性,说明了长周期海平面变化既受全球性海平面变化的控制,同时也受区域因素的影响。  相似文献

The nature and origin of glacial sediments at Wylfa Head are described, and their significance with regard to sedimentary environments during Late Devensian deglaciation of the Irish Sea Basin is discussed. Recent models of deglaciation under glaciomarine conditions are challenged. The Quaternary sequence at Wylfa consists of eroded and glaciotectonically deformed bedrock, locally derived lodgement till, calcareous silt-rich lodgement till containing northern erratics, discontinuous units of orange-brown silty sand of possible aeolian origin, and grey laminated freshwater silts filling a small kettle hole. The till units thicken to the south where the surface is drumlinised. It is concluded that the landforms and deposits result from a warm-based Irish Sea glacier, which moved towards the southwest. Spatial variation in basal water pressure resulted from localised drainage through zones of more heavily jointed bedrock. Rapid glacial erosion occurred in areas where subglacial water pressure was relatively high, while deposition of the resulting basal sediment took place where water pressures were reduced. The glacier also carried basal calcareous silty till onshore, which was deposited by lodgement processes. None of the deposits at Wylfa are interpreted as glaciomarine in origin, and there is no evidence at this site for an isostatically induced marine transgression prior to deglaciation.  相似文献

The overall lithological succession in the Millstone Grit of the southern Pennines was most probably controlled by glacial-eustatic sea-level oscillations and may be interpreted in terms of the systems tracts of sequence stratigraphy. Bands containing thick-shelled goniatites represent ‘condensed sections’ formed at times of maximum flooding. Turbidite-fronted deltas, marking major basin-filling episodes, resemble ‘lowstand systems tracts’. However all sand influxes did not necessarily occur during lowstands. Millstone Grit sheet deltas and elongate deltas resemble lobate and birdfoot deltas in Recent ‘highstand systems tracts’. The prograding fluviodeltaic complexes at the tops of some major turbidite-fronted deltas were braid deltas. So was the sheet-like channel complex of the Rough Rock at the top of the Millstone Grit, but this was probably part of a ‘highstand systems tract’.  相似文献

To determine the pattern of geochemical variation within the Penmaenmawr intrusion, 41 rocks were analysed for major oxides and 15 minor elements. The results indicate pulsational emplacement of sheets of magma from a parental body at depth undergoing crystallization differentiation. These sheets now strike NE–SW and dip southeastward. The resultant intrusion shows a range of SiO2 contents from 57·3% to 65·6% (H2O-free). Geochemical evidence suggests that it was derived from an intermediate parental magma and is possibly related to parts of the Conwy Rhyolite Formation. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

利用岩性、钻井、地震及露头资料,通过对该地区进行层序地层学分析和研究,根据层序界面的识别原则,把大民屯凹陷古近系划分为1个二级层序,两个三级层序。从单井相入手,结合地震相识别出大民屯凹陷沙四段主要发育扇三角洲-湖泊沉积体系和近岸浊积扇-湖相沉积体系,主要发育扇三角洲和湖泊沉积相,局部发育近岸浊积扇。在沉积体系研究的基础上,利用地震反演预测了有利的储集砂体的发育区。  相似文献

对于海相沉积盆地而言,在一个三级海平面变化周期内形成的层序,具有全球可对比性的等时地层单元,跨时约0.3~3M a。在三维高分辨率地震、岩心和测井解释资料基础之上,通过岩石地层旋回特征、可容空间以及层序地层关键界面识别,将珠江口盆地渐新世晚期的珠海组二段分为S1和S2两个三级层序。由于坳陷处于浅海陆棚环境,每个层序中的低水位体系域不发育,局部以受断层控制的水下峡谷充填为特征。  相似文献

在1:25万区域地质调查基础上,通过对宿松-东至地区南华纪-志留纪地层露头剖面研究,对其相应的沉积环境、沉积相进行了分析,并根据生物地层、岩石地层和年代地层等成果,将南华纪-志留纪地层划分为1个一级层序,5个二级层序和15个三级层序组。一级和二级层序在沉积相序上总的趋势表现为浅※深※浅的变化,且与海平面变化曲线相吻合;三级层序组海平面上升和下降往往受构造运动、海平面变化、冰川事件影响。  相似文献

New road cuttings have exposed a large part of the Merioneth Series. The rocks are low-grade thinly layered metasediments which have undergone extensive buckling resulting in tectonic ripples, mullions, and crenulations. It is suggested that the periclinal form of these structures may be the result of buckling layered sequences with longitudinal and transverse zones of constraint (heterogeneities). The process is analogous to ‘quilting’ of thin metal sheets and the heterogeneities are perhaps due to layer thickness variation. There are two foliations; which may form a progressive sequence of cleavage development during the evolution of the fold style.  相似文献

白垩纪是新特提斯演化过程中一个极其重要的阶段,其沉积蕴涵着新特提斯早期演变的丰富信息。在对典型剖面进行层序地层分析的基础上,结合前人的研究成果,笔者分别对特提斯喜马拉雅沉积带南、北两亚带白垩系进行较为详细的露头层序地层学研究,在沉积南带识别出为24个三级层序、5个层序组(亚二级层序)、2个二级层序(中层序),在北亚带识别出22个三级层序、5个层序组(亚二级层序)、2个二级层序(中层序)。特提斯喜马拉雅早白垩世层序地层总体表现为海进的退积序列,反映了特提斯洋壳的扩张阶段;晚白垩世层序地层总体表现为海退的进积序列,反映了特提斯洋盆地持续收缩和长期海平面逐步下降的过程,应是洋壳俯冲阶段的产物。整个白垩纪显示出一次极其明显的海水进退旋回,是特提斯洋从扩张到收缩这一演化过程的客观反映。由对层序特征、沉积特征及古生物特征等的分析所得出的特提斯喜马拉雅在白垩纪的海水进退规程,与同期的全球海平面的变化基本一致。  相似文献

华北克拉通北缘寒武系碳酸盐岩作为区域油气勘探的重要目标,其沉积环境演化和层序地层格架的研究对区域地层及有利储层定位具有重要指导意义,也为华北地区寒武系油气勘探提供线索。以大量露头剖面实测分析为基础,结合典型井录井、测井、微观显微镜下分析以及地化测试等数据资料,在年代地层框架下进行旋回性地层分析研究,对华北克拉通北缘寒武系岩性、岩相以及地层叠置样式进行详细剖析,研究沉积趋势变化,总结寒武系层序地层划分样式。研究认为:在全球海平面变化控制下,华北地区自府君山组开始,发育广泛的由南向北的持续海侵,在陆源碎屑供给以及碳酸盐岩加积作用的相互制约下,华北地区表现为碳酸盐台地的形成-发展-镶边过程;以张夏组为界,中-下寒武统表现为缓坡-陆棚的沉积环境,上寒武统为具镶边的台地沉积背景;在不同层位不同层序边界类型(I型、Ⅱ型、Ⅲ型)的分隔作用下,将华北克拉通北缘寒武系划分为7个可区域性对比的三级层序,各三级层序高水位体系域多表现厚层清水碳酸盐岩沉积的特点,且受不同程度白云石化作用,成为区域寒武系重要的有利油气储集层。  相似文献

在生物地层对比基础之上通过对河北顺平清醒剖面、山东张夏和河北赵各庄标准剖面以及北京西山剖面的层序地层研究,将华北地台张夏阶和上寒武统自下而上划分并命名了5个总体向上变浅、以间断加深面为界的层序:张夏层序、崮山层序、崮长层序、长山层序和风山层序,并将上寒武统的4个层序与美国的相应层序进行了对比;阐述了层序地层单位与原来的生物地层、岩石地层和年代地层单位之间的关系,并用层序界面对原有岩石地层和年代地层单位的界线进行了优化;同时探讨了在克拉通陆表海背景下层序地层的发育特征以及相应的地质填图方法。  相似文献

The Upper Oligocene–Lower Miocene succession in eastern Jylland can be subdivided into three sequences (A–C from older to younger) deposited on and around the Ringkøbing-Fyn High. The development of the sequences reflects a complex interaction between eustatic sea-level changes, physiography and variable sediment supply. Superimposed on this, frequent storms promoted longshore sediment transport and the development of spit systems adjacent to structural highs. As a consequence, sequence boundaries and flooding surfaces are not always expressed as portrayed in conventional sequence models; sequence boundaries or flooding surfaces may only be marked by subtle changes in depositional environment that can only be revealed by careful integration of sedimentological observations with palynological data. The influence of the topography resulted in the development of brackish water basins that were sufficiently large to permit the deposition of hummocky cross-stratified sands with muds. These deposits are overlain by clean hummocky and swaley cross-stratified sands that were deposited in a fully marine, high-energy environment. This evolution from mud-rich, storm-influenced sediments to sand-dominated shoreface sediments resulted from a rise in sea level and was not the result of shoreface progradation and downstepping during a sea level fall. In addition to the topographic control on sequence development, sediment supply to the study area changed significantly during the deposition of the three sequences. Initially the basin was sediment-starved, favouring the formation of glaucony-rich sediments. The sediment input gradually increased and the influence of structural highs and lows became less significant with time. Consequently, both sequence boundaries and flooding surfaces are characterized by more conventional features in the younger part of the succession, where a basinward displacement of the shoreline resulted in thick lowstand delta deposits.  相似文献

The brachiopod fauna from the base of the Bryn Siltstone Formation (middle Caradoc), Glyn Ceiriog, north Berwyn Hills, North Wales, consists of Platystrophia elevata sp. nov., Salopia abbreviata sp. nov., Kiaeromena ungula (M'Coy) and unnamed species of Hesperorthis?, Reuschella and Bicuspina. The dominant brachiopod species, Leptaena (Leptagonia) ungula M'Coy, 1851 is revised and its current assignment to the leptaenid genus Kiaeromena confirmed, based on the examination of type and topotype material from the Bryn Siltstone Formation. Kiaeromena spjeldnaesi nom. nov. is proposed to replace the junior homonym K. ungula Spjeldnæs, 1957 for that congeneric species from the upper Caradoc rocks of Ringerike, southern Norway. The fauna as a whole is unusual within the context of the Anglo-Welsh province and may represent a rare preserved nearshore community.  相似文献

20世纪80年代末期兴起的层序地层学,为人们理解聚煤作用提供了新的思路。通过对国内外近海含煤岩系层序地层学研究成果的分析,认识到:海侵过程成煤、幕式聚煤作用、事件成煤作用、海相层滞后时段聚煤等观点的提出,大大促进了含煤岩系研究的发展;含煤岩系层序地层学聚焦于基准面与泥炭堆积关系的研究,煤岩学、煤化学方法与层序地层学的结合使这种关系更加清晰化;地层接触关系、煤层特征、煤岩特征和煤化特征是判断煤层作为成因层序地层边界的重要依据;含煤岩系层序地层学由聚焦于层序格架中煤层位置的研究,逐步转变为关注于煤层中高频基准面旋回的研究和可容纳空间与煤层、煤岩关系的研究。今后的研究要逐渐拓展到内陆湖盆,应建立不同构造背景下的内陆湖盆成煤模式或理论。  相似文献

为了使北京西山地质学方面的研究更为全面,并为其他地区寒武系的研究提供对比,以北京西山地区出露的寒武纪地层为根据.进行了层序地层学和沉积学方面的研究.该区寒武纪地层多为碳酸盐岩,岩石类型以各种灰岩及白云岩为主.按照层序地层学的原理和工作方法,结合区域层序界面特征把该区寒武系划为16个三级层序,其中SQ1-SQ3为Ⅰ型层序,Ⅱ型层序则较为发育,SQ4-SQ16都为Ⅱ型层序.研究区寒武系属于典型的碳酸盐岩台地沉积.由于寒武纪研究区内地形地势平缓,构造沉降比较稳定,因而深切谷等标志不发育,所有层序都缺失低水位体系域(LST)或陆架边缘体系域(SMST)沉积.  相似文献
