Compact groups of galaxies are fruitful laboratories to study such processes as dynamical friction, tidal interaction, collision, and galaxy mergers. The largest survey of compact galaxy groups is the one of Shakhbazian, Petrosian, Baier, Tiersch. A programme to evaluate photometrical properties of the galaxies in the Shakhbazian groups has been started using the COSMOS/UKST catalogue of the Southern sky with δ ≤ + 2°30′. About a quarter of the Shakhbazian groups lie south of this declination limit. A list of 24 groups (Shkh 21, 24, 27, 30, 32, 33, 35, 81, 82, 83, 140, 141, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, 151, 152, 154, 261, 262, 263) is our first result.  相似文献

As in the first paper photometric data were obtained from the COSMOS/UKST catalogue of the Southern sky with δ ≤ +2°30′. We find a strong correlation between the effective radius of the largest early-type galaxies in compact groups of galaxies and the velocity dispersion of the groups. The lack of a similar correlation for late type galaxies is supportive of the so called second generation merging scenario which predicts that ellipticals should dominate the internal dynamics of the groups, while late-type galaxies are mainly recent interlopers which are still in an early stage of interaction with the group potential.  相似文献

It has been shown that the radio emission properties of spiral galaxies, if the other conditions are the same, are determined rather by the presence of the close neighbours than by space density of galaxies around them. The rate of occurence of radio sources and their radio luminosities among the spiral members of groups of galaxies depend on the projected seperation between them and their nearest neighbour. The shorter this seperation the higher the probability of radio emission.  相似文献

Results are presented from a spectral, photometric, and morphological study of two compact groups of compact galaxies (CGCG) from Shahbazian’s list. The observations were made on the 1.5-m ESO telescope and the 2.6-m telescope at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO) during 1999–2000. These data are compared with data for the Shahbazian compact group 4. A high spatial density of galaxies, ranging from 10000 to 100000 galaxies per Mpc3, is observed in all the groups that were studied. The discovery of a Seyfert Sy1 galaxy in the Shahbazian 355 compact group is especially noteworthy. The direct photographs of the CGCGs that were studied contain no signs of merging or tidal interactions among the members of these groups. By observations with the 1.5m telescope at San Pedro Martir (OAN, UNAM, Mexico) the BVR magnitudes are determined for 66 member galaxies in Shakhbazian Compact Galaxy Groups ShCG 40, ShCG 176, ShCG 270, ShCG 278, ShCG 310, and ShCG 342. Three other groups were observed in two or only in one band. Seven galaxies in ShCG 298 were observed in B and R, six galaxies in ShCG 95 were observed in V, and seven galaxies in ShCG 345 were observed in V and R. The distribution of brightness of observed galaxies is determined. Signs of interaction between galaxies are detected in some groups.  相似文献

By observations at Calar Alto (Spain), La Silla (Chile) and Cananea (Mexico), we measured redshifts of 108 candidate members in 19 Shakhbazian compact galaxy groups ShCG 44, 105, 149, 168, 270, 276, 278, 279, 298, 303, 304, 310, 317, 331, 339, 340, 345, 358, and 359. Redshifts of another ten members were taken from the NED. We found that nine out of 118 candidate member galaxies are stars, and twelve galaxies are not members of the corresponding groups and are projected over them. The group ShCG 168 is the core of a cluster. The groups ShCG 276, ShCG 298, and ShCG 303 are either strongly contaminated by field galaxies with redshift differing not very much from that of the corresponding group, or are the results of a chance projection of field galaxies.  相似文献

It is more appropriate to study the dynamics and evolution of compact groups using a sample of isolated compact groups in the nearby vicinity of which there are no accordant redshift galaxies. To look for isolated compact groups we inspected the environment of 78 Shakhbazian compact groups, with known redshifts. We found that 26 of nearby groups with V < 40000 km s−1 are isolated compact groups in the vicinity of which up to a projected distance of 1 Mpc there are no accordant redshift galaxies. For four of them, the redshift of only two members are known, so their being groups is not certain. In the vicinities of eleven distant groups (V > 40000 km s−1) no accordant redshift galaxies are detected as well. The reason for this may be the faintness of galaxies there. Spectroscopic observations of twelve M51-type binary galaxies with the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope are presented. We constructed the rotation curves for the primary galaxies of each binary system and determined the line-of-sight velocities of their companions from the Hα and [N II] 6583 Å emission lines.  相似文献

We analyze data from the SAURON integral-field spectrograph of the William Herschel 4-m telescope for five lenticular galaxies in which we previously found chemically decoupled nuclei from observations with the Multipupil Fiber Spectrograph of the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope. In a larger field of view, we confirmed the presence of peaks of the equivalent width of the Mg Ib λ5175 absorption line in the nuclei of all five galaxies. However, the structure of the chemically decoupled regions turned out to be highly varied even in such a small sample: from compact unresolved knots to disks with an extent of several hundred parsecs and, in one case, a triaxial compact minibar-type structure. We confirmed the presence of an inner gaseous polar ring in NGC 7280 and found it in NGC 7332. In their outer parts, the planes of these polar rings are warped toward the plane of stellar rotation in such a way that the gas counterrotates with respect to the stars. This behavior of the gas in a triaxial potential was predicted by several theoretical models.  相似文献

A nearby group of galaxies, centered at the spiral galaxy NGC 972 and conspicuously rich in faint dwarf spheroidal galaxies, has been investigated photometrically on the B and V plates, obtained with the Tautenburg 2m Schmidt telescope. For ten certain and probable group members the equivalent B and V brightness profiles have been extracted. Integrated magnitudes and mean colours of faint group members have been estimated. Typically, the dwarfs show a “subexponential” (i.e. a convex curvature over the linear radius) surface brightness profile and often a central excess. Their equivalent profiles are reasonably well fitted by modified isothermal (King) models.  相似文献
