Comparison of stream sediment and soil sampling for regional exploration in the eastern Alps,Austria

Tests in three different areas of the Austrian Alps showed that in mountainous areas, soil samples taken at the break of slope are an alternative sampling medium to stream sediments for regional geochemical exploration even if taken at the unusually low density of 1 sample/km2. B-horizon soil samples from the nearest break of slope were collected in conjunction with stream sediment orientation studies. The minus 0.2 mm fraction of all samples was routinely analyzed for the total contents of 36 elements. The results for the indicator elements in the three test areas (Area 1: Cu; Area 2: Ag, As, Cu, Pb, Sb, Sn, Zn; Area 3: As, Cu) showed that break-of-slope soil samples more clearly indicate known mineralization than drainage geochemistry. In the soils, almost all elements showed a higher natural variability of the data with considerably higher metal contents. In mountaineous regions, each soil sample will have a clearly defined area of influence. The break of slope represents a site where clastically and hydromorphically dispersed elements are concentrated. It is concluded that soil samples can be used for regional exploration using low sampling densities in mountaineous areas. At the same time they will provide valuable information for other fields of science (e.g. agriculture, forestry, environmental sciences) and are thus superior to stream sediments. 相似文献

To test the relative effectiveness of stream water and sediment as geochemical exploration media in the Rio Tanama porphyry copper district of Puerto Rico, we collected and subsequently analyzed samples of water and sediment from 29 sites in the rivers and tributaries of the district. Copper, Mo, Pb, Zn, SO42?, and pH were determined in the waters; Cu, Mo, Pb, and Zn were determined in the sediments. In addition, copper in five partial extractions from the sediments was determined. Geochemical contrast (anomaly-to-background quotient) was the principal criterion by which the effectiveness of the two media and the five extractions were judged.Among the distribution patterns of metals in stream water, that of copper most clearly delineates the known porphyry copper deposits and yields the longest discernable dispersion train. The distribution patterns of Mo, Pb, and Zn in water show little relationship to the known mineralization. The distribution of SO42? in water delineates the copper deposits and also the more extensive pyrite alteration in the district; its recognizable downstream dispersion train is substantially longer than those of the metals, either in water or sediment. Low pH values in small tributaries delineate areas of known sulfide mineralization.The distribution patterns of copper in sediments clearly delineate the known deposits, and the dispersion trains are longer than those of copper in water.The partial determinations of copper related to secondary iron and manganese oxides yield the strongest geochemical contrasts and longest recognizable dispersion trains. Significantly high concentrations of molybdenum in sediments were found at only three sites, all within one-half km downstream of the known copper deposits. The distribution patterns of lead and zinc in sediments are clearly related to the known primary lead-zinc haloes around the copper deposits. Fluid-controlled quartz recovery in granulite as revealed by cathodoluminescence and trace element analysis (Bamble sector,Norway) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Dispersed quartz veinlets in Proterozoic enderbitic charnockite from Tromøy, Bamble sector (southern Norway), with Ti-concentrations of mostly 80–180 ppm, produce bright blue cathodoluminescence (CL), against contrasting micro-textures of secondary pure quartz with low CL intensity. The textures comprise grain boundary alteration, healed micro-fractures, patches of secondary quartz, and euhedral quartz nuclei. The secondary quartz locally makes up 50% of the total quartz. Trace element analysis has been done by electron-probe micro-analysis (EPMA), laser-induced coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS), and additional electron-paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. These studies testify systematic trace element reduction and extensive quartz recovery during retrograde metamorphism. We assume healing of a part of the aqueous fluid inclusions during a late thermal event, possible correlated with Paleozoic magmatic activity in the Oslo-Rift. During final cooling, aqueous fluids were largely retrapped in patches of secondary quartz associated with healed fractures, whereas carbonic inclusions (without secondary quartz) may have survived retrograde metamorphism. The variable but generally high salinity of fluid inclusions is assumed to be in part the result of quartz recovery by which ion concentrations were increased in the percentage range.Editorial Responsibility: J. 对取自海南岛东部小海潟湖的柱状岩心(XH15-02)开展了年代学(210Pb和AMS 14C)和常量/微量元素分析,在建立可靠年代模型的基础上,探讨了该潟湖沉积物地球化学元素及其比值的环境指示意义,进而揭示近千年来海南地区的气候环境变化历史。研究表明:(1)小海潟湖沉积物地球化学元素比值(Al/Ca、Mg/Ca、K/Ca、Fe/Ca、Ti/Ca)主要反映了近千年来海南地区的降水变化历史,具体表现在中世纪暖期(870~1100AD)海南地区的降水较少,而小冰期降水波动较为明显,总体上较中世纪暖期降水偏多,这可能与近千年来热带辐合带的南北移动以及西太平洋暖池海表温度变化有关;(2)结合史料文献中有关“飓风”、“飚风”等记载,从小海潟湖沉积物地球化学元素及其比值序列中共识别出8次强台风事件,为当前全球变暖背景下我国热带地区台风活动趋势预测提供了参考和科学依据。 相似文献

Summary Major, trace element and isotopic (Sr, Nd, Pb) data are reported for representative samples of interplinian (Protohistoric,
Ancient Historic and Medieval Formations) activity of Mt. Somma-Vesuvius volcano during the last 3500 years. Tephra and lavas
exhibit significant major, trace element and isotopic variations. Integration of these data with those obtained by previous
studies on the older Somma suites and on the latest activity, allows to better trace a complete petrological and geochemical
evolution of the Mt. Somma-Vesuvius magmatism. Three main groups of rocks are recognized. A first group is older than 12.000 yrs,
and includes effusive-explosive activity of Mt. Somma. The second group (8000–2700 yrs B.P.) includes the products emitted
by the Ottaviano (8000 yrs. B.P.) and Avellino (3550 yrs B.P.) plinian eruptions and the interplinian activity associated
with the Protohistoric Formation. Ancient Historic Formation (79–472 A.D.), Medieval Formation (472–1139 A.D.) and Recent
interplinian activity (1631–1944 A.D.) belong to the third group of activity (79–1944 A.D.). The three groups of rocks display
distinct positive trends of alkalis vs. silica, which become increasingly steeper with age. In the first group there is an
increase in silica and alkalis with time, whereas an opposite tendency is observed in the two younger groups.
Systematic variations are also evident among the incompatible (Pb, Zr, Hf, Ta, Th, U, Nb, Rb, Cs, Ba) and compatible elements
(Sr, Co, Cr). REE document variable degrees of fractionation, with recent activity displaying higher La/Yb ratios than Medieval
and Ancient Historic products with the same degree of evolution. N-MORB normalized multi-element diagrams for interplinian
rocks show enrichment in Rb, Th, Nb, Zr and Sm (> *10 N-MORB).
Sr isotope ratios are variable, with Protohistoric rocks displaying 87Sr/86Sr = 0.70711–0.70810, Ancient Historic 87Sr/86Sr = 0.70665–0.70729, and Medieval 87Sr/86Sr = 0.70685–0.70803. Neodymium isotopic compositions in the interplinian rocks show a tendency to become slightly more radiogenic
with age, from the Protohistoric (143Nd/144Nd = 0.51240–0.51247) to Ancient Historic (143Nd/144Nd = 0.51245–0.51251). Medieval interplinian activity (143Nd/144Nd: 0.51250–0.51241) lacks meaningful internal trends. All the interplinian rocks have virtually homogeneous compositions
of 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb in acid-leached residues (207Pb/204Pb ∼15.633 to 15.687, 208Pb/204Pb ∼38.947 to 39.181). Values of 206Pb/204Pb are very distinctive, however, and discriminate among the three interplinian cycles of activity (Protohistoric: 18.929–18.971,
Ancient Historic: 19.018–19.088, Medieval: 18.964–19.053).
Compositional trends of major, trace element and isotopic compositions clearly demonstrate strong temporal variations of the
magma types feeding the Somma-Vesuvius activity. These different trends are unlikely to be related only to low pressure evolutionary
processes, and reveal variations of parental melt composition.
Geochemical data suggest a three component mixing scheme for the interplinian activity. These involve HIMU-type and DMM-type
mantle and Calabrian-type lower crust. Interaction between these components has taken place in the source; however, additional
quantitative constraints must be acquired in order to better discriminate between magma characteristics inherited from the
sources and those acquired during shallow level evolution.

The complexity of modern geochemical data sets is increasing in several aspects (number of available samples, number of elements measured, number of matrices analysed, geological-environmental variability covered, etc), hence it is becoming increasingly necessary to apply statistical methods to elucidate their structure. This paper presents an exploratory analysis of one such complex data set, the Tellus geochemical soil survey of Northern Ireland (NI). This exploratory analysis is based on one of the most fundamental exploratory tools, principal component analysis (PCA) and its graphical representation as a biplot, albeit in several variations: the set of elements included (only major oxides vs. all observed elements), the prior transformation applied to the data (none, a standardization or a logratio transformation) and the way the covariance matrix between components is estimated (classical estimation vs. robust estimation). Results show that a log-ratio PCA (robust or classical) of all available elements is the most powerful exploratory setting, providing the following insights: the first two processes controlling the whole geochemical variation in NI soils are peat coverage and a contrast between “mafic” and “felsic” background lithologies; peat covered areas are detected as outliers by a robust analysis, and can be then filtered out if required for further modelling; and peat coverage intensity can be quantified with the %Br in the subcomposition (Br, Rb, Ni). 相似文献

Lago Verde is a fresh-water maar found on the lower slopes of San Martin volcano, at the Sierra de Los Tuxtlas, Mexico, currently the northernmost remnant of the tropical rain forest in America. 210Pb and 137Cs analyzed in a sediment core were used to reconstruct the historical fluxes of Ag, Cd, Cu, Pb, Hg and Zn to the site during the last ∼ 150 yr. The 210Pbxs-derived sediment accumulation rates, the magnetic susceptibility, C/N ratios and δ13C data evidenced background conditions at the lake until 1960s, when enhanced erosion related to the clearing of large forested areas at Los Tuxtlas promoted higher accumulation rates of a heavier and more magnetic sedimentary material. Recent sediments from Lago Verde were found enriched by Pb (26-fold natural concentration level [NCLs]) and moderately enriched by Cd > Cu > Zn and Hg (6-, 5-, 4- and 4-fold corresponding NCLs, respectively). The fluxes of Cu, Hg, Pb and Zn have significantly increased since 1940s, with peak ratios of total modern to pre-industrial fluxes of 11, 11, 19 and 49, respectively. The lake occupies a relatively pristine, non-industrialized basin, and therefore the increased metal fluxes might be related to long-distance aeolian transport of trace metals. 相似文献

Field, mineralogical and petrological data are presented on a newly found carbonatite occurrence associated with “kamafugite”
lava at Cupaello, central Italy. This carbonatite occurrence is part of the Late Pleistocene Umbria-Latium ultra-alkaline
district (ULUD) which extends southwards within the Apennines to Mount Vulture, delineating an important magmatic province
along the most peripheral belt of the Tyrrhenian extensional tectonic system. This province is distinct, but probably related
genetically with the more abundant and common leucite-bearing assemblages of the Roman Comagmatic Region and represents the
first reported occurrence of carbonatite assemblages in the Mediterranean Basin. The Cupaello suite indicates that primary
or near-primary mantle silicate melts of “kamafugitic” composition are transitional with Ca-carbonatite liquid and provides
direct evidence of immiscibility of carbonatite from “kamafugite” magma. It is inferred that a primary mantle origin of Ca-carbonatites
is conditional upon a potential silicate magma that may be coupled with the carbonatite, but may not have reached the surface.
The data indicate a strong genetic link between ULUD Ca-carbonatites and some African analogues, supporting the view that
their genesis depends on similar source and associated tectonic conditions.

Trace element data are reported in 21 lava samples from the Alban Hills, one of the most important volcanic complexes of the
Roman comagmatic region. The samples consist mostly of tephritic leucitites with minor phonolitic tephrites and tephritic
phonolites emplaced during two distinct phases of activity, separated by a caldera collapse.
The ferromagnesian element contents are variable (Ni=93-26 ppm; Co=37-20 ppm; Cr=359-5 ppm; Sc=35-6 ppm) and tend to have
higher values in the post-caldera rocks. Rb, Cs, Th, Sr, and LREE are extremely enriched in all the samples analyzed, with
the pre-caldera rocks displaying a lower content of Rb and Cs and a higher abundance of Th, light REE and La/Yb ratio. Ta
and Hf are not so high and are more enriched in the pre-caldera samples. Sr displays comparable values in the two groups of
rocks.
The trace element variation indicates that the rocks from the Alban Hills represent two distinct series of liquids formed
by crystal/liquid fractionation processes starting from two parental magmas. The genesis of the primary melts is hypothesized
as due to a low degree of partial melting of a mantle peridotite enriched in incompatible elements.
All of the studied samples have distribution patterns of incompatible elements normalized against a hypothetical primordial
mantle composition, which are similar to that displayed by the aeolian calc-alkaline and leucite-tephritic products and distinctively
different from those of typical K-rich volcanics from an intraplate rift environment. This strongly supports the hypothesis
that there is a close genetic connection between Roman magmatism and subductionrelated processes. 相似文献

This study presents a diagnostic of the current state of 114 stream sediment samples by their elemental concentrations (Sb, Cd, Pb, As, Cu, Zn, Ni, Cr, and Hg), collected from Ighardayane upstream on an area of 15 km2 located at the SE part of central Morocco where Tourtit and Ichoumellal, two abandoned mining sites of Stibnite, are located. Several approaches were used to model the analysis (i) enrichment factor (EF), (ii) sediment pollution index (IPS), (iii) probable effect concentration-quotients (PEC-Qs), and (iv) potential ecological risk index (PERI). Results show highly contaminated areas around the old mining sites by Sb As, Pb, and Cd. Cadmium and lead show 86.9 and 12.29% (respectively) of trace element pollution according to sediment pollution index. Twenty-eight percent of the sampled area is potentially highly toxic because of the presence of Hg, Pb, and Cd. The very similar distribution of pollution and toxicity of most analyzed trace elements may originate from the same source, which corresponds to mining wastes where we recorded the highest pollution and toxicity degrees. This environmental issue represents the combination of Tourtit and Ichoumellal anthropic sources responsible of Sb, As, Pb, and Cd release and a probable natural source of Hg “that needs a further study,” which contribute in the degradation of an aquatic ecosystem of the same area. Therefore, both ecotoxicological analysis and stream sediment quality management should be carried out to control this aquatic ecosystem toxication. 相似文献

Limestones containing radiaxial fibrous cements were sampled along the southern slope of the late Anisian (Middle Triassic) Latemar carbonate platform in the Dolomites, northern Italy. The Latemar upper slopes comprise massive microbial boundstone, whereas lower slopes are made of clinostratified grainstone, rudstone and breccia. Samples are representative of a seawater column from near sea‐level to an aphotic zone at about 500 m water depth. Radiaxial fibrous cements were analyzed for carbon (δ13C) and oxygen (δ18O) stable isotopic composition, as well as major and trace element content, to shed light on the origin of the slope facies zonation. The δ13C vary between 1·7‰ and 2·3‰ (Vienna Pee‐Dee Belemnite), with lowest values at palaeo‐water depths between 70 m and 300 m. Radiaxial fibrous cements yielded seawater‐like rare earth element patterns with light rare earth element depletion (NdSN/YbSN ≈ 0·4), superchondritic yttrium/holmium ratios (≈55) and negative cerium anomalies. Cadmium reaches maximum values of ca 0·5 to 0·7 μg/g at palaeo‐water depths between 70 m and 300 m; barium contents (0·8 to 1·8 μg/g) increase linearly with depth. The downslope patterns of δ13C and cadmium suggest increased nutrient and organic matter contents at depths between ca 70 m and 300 m and point to an active biological pump. The peak in cadmium and the minimum of δ13C mark a zone of maximum organic matter respiration and high nutrient and organic matter availability. The base of this zone at ca 300 m depth corresponds with the transition from massive microbial boundstone to clinostratified grainstone, rudstone and breccia. The microbial boundstone facies apparently formed only in seawater enriched in organic matter, possibly because this organic matter sustained benthic microbial communities at Latemar. The base of slope microbialites on high‐relief microbial carbonate platforms may be a proxy for the depth to maximum respiration zones of Palaeozoic and Mesozoic periplatform basins. 相似文献

The three layered intrusions studied in the Laouni area have been emplaced within syn-kinematic Pan-African granites and older metamorphic rocks. They have crystallized at the end of the regional high-temperature metamorphism, but are free from metamorphic recrystallization, revealing a post-collisional character. The cumulate piles can be interpreted in terms of two magmatic liquid lines of descent: one is tholeiitic and marked by plagioclase–olivine–clinopyroxene cumulates (troctolites or olivine bearing gabbros), while the other is calc-alkaline and produced orthopyroxene–plagioclase rich cumulates (norites). One intrusion (WL (West Laouni)-troctolitic massif), shows a Lower Banded Zone where olivine-chromite orthocumulates are interlayered with orthopyroxene-rich and olivine–plagioclase–clinopyroxene cumulates, whereas the Upper Massive Zone consists mainly of troctolitic and gabbroic cumulates. The other two massifs are more homogeneous: the WL-noritic massif has a calc-alkaline differentiation trend whereas the EL (East Laouni)–troctolitic massif has a tholeiitic one. Separated pyroxene and plagioclase display similar incompatible trace element patterns, regardless of the cumulate type. Calculated liquids in equilibrium with the two pyroxenes for both noritic and troctolitic cumulates are characterized by negative Nb, Ta, Zr and Hf anomalies and light REE enrichment inherited from the parental magmas. Troctolitic cumulates have mantle-derived δ18O (+5 to +6‰), initial 87Sr/86Sr (Sri=0.7030 to 0.7054), Nd (+5 to −1) values whereas noritic cumulates are variably enriched in δ18O (+7 to +9‰), show negative Nd (−7 to −12) and slightly higher Sri (0.7040–0.7065). Based on field, isotopic ratios are interpreted as resulting from a depleted mantle source (Sri=0.7030; Nd=+5.1; δ18O=+5.1‰) having experience short term incompatible element enrichment and variable crustal contamination. The mantle magma was slightly contaminated by an Archaean lower crust in troctolitic cumulates, more strongly and with an additional contamination by an Eburnian upper crust in noritic cumulates. Lower crust input is recorded mainly by Sr and Nd isotopes and upper crust input by O isotopes. This is probably due to the different water/rock ratios of these two crust types. Assimilation of low amounts (<10%) of quartz-bearing felsic rocks, coming from both lower and upper crust, can explain the rise of SiO2 activity, the enrichment in 18O and 87Sr and the lowering of Nd in the noritic cumulates compared to troctolitic ones. The geodynamic model proposed to account for the Laouni tholeiitic magmatism involves a late Pan-African asthenospheric rise due to a rapid lithospheric thinning associated with functioning of shear zones, which allowed tholeiitic magmas to reach high crustal levels while experiencing decreasing degrees of crustal contamination with time. 相似文献

Arsenic-bearing stream sediments enter the Upper Isle River, an Au mining-influenced basin (France), by the discharge of mining sites, tailings runoff and weathering of mineralized veins in granites and gneiss. Some fresh ochreous As-rich deposits on the river banks and in floodplains are identified as additional As-rich point sources (As between 0.07 and 6.5 wt.%). The <63 μm fraction of stream sediments contains elevated As bulk concentrations, ranging from 160 to 890 mg/kg, compared to the geochemical background (70 mg/kg on average). It is also enriched in Cd, Hg and W. Spatial variations of these trace elements show 3 significant increases corresponding to the 3 drained mining districts. They decrease down river but are still enriched 30 km downstream of the mining districts due to downstream transportation. Three types of trace element-bearing phases have been identified as: (i) detrital primary sulfides, with high in situ As percentages (up to 43.7 wt.%). They also carry significant amounts of W according to the differences in chemical compositions of the total and light <63 μm fractions. These sulfide particles do not show any sign of alteration in the oxygenated stream sediments; (ii) Secondary Fe–Mn oxyhydroxides,some with very high in situ As2O5 concentrations (up to 59.8 wt.%) and with about 40% of the total Cd composition. They occur as fresh precipitates in the river banks and floodplains and as discrete particles in stream sediments and (iii) Al–Si fine-grained phases. Their major element composition is highly variable with in situ As2O5 concentrations ranging between 430 and 5020 mg/kg. This type of solid phase is also the major carrier of Hg. 相似文献

Geochemistry of soil, soil water, and soil gas was characterized in representative soil profiles of three Michigan watersheds. Because of differences in source regions, parent materials in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (the Tahquamenon watershed) contain only silicates, while those in the Lower Peninsula (the Cheboygan and the Huron watersheds) have significant mixtures of silicate and carbonate minerals. These differences in soil mineralogy and climate conditions permit us to examine controls on carbonate and silicate mineral weathering rates and to better define the importance of silicate versus carbonate dissolution in the early stage of soil-water cation acquisition.Soil waters of the Tahquamenon watershed are the most dilute; solutes reflect amphibole and plagioclase dissolution along with significant contributions from atmospheric precipitation sources. Soil waters in the Cheboygan and the Huron watersheds begin their evolution as relatively dilute solutions dominated by silicate weathering in shallow carbonate-free soil horizons. Here, silicate dissolution is rapid and reaction rates dominantly are controlled by mineral abundances. In the deeper soil horizons, silicate dissolution slows down and soil-water chemistry is dominated by calcite and dolomite weathering, where solutions reach equilibrium with carbonate minerals within the soil profile. Thus, carbonate weathering intensities are dominantly controlled by annual precipitation, temperature and soil pCO2. Results of a conceptual model support these field observations, implying that dolomite and calcite are dissolving at a similar rate, and further dissolution of more soluble dolomite after calcite equilibrium produces higher dissolved inorganic carbon concentrations and a Mg2+/Ca2+ ratio of 0.4.Mass balance calculations show that overall, silicate minerals and atmospheric inputs generally contribute <10% of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in natural waters. Dolomite dissolution appears to be a major process, rivaling calcite dissolution as a control on divalent cation and inorganic carbon contents of soil waters. Furthermore, the fraction of Mg2+ derived from silicate mineral weathering is much smaller than most of the values previously estimated from riverine chemistry. 相似文献

The structure of the Ciudad Rodrigo area (Iberian Massif, Central Iberian Zone) has been revisited in order to integrate new geological data with recent models of the evolution of the Iberian Massif. Detailed mapping of fold structures along with a compilation of field data have been used to constrain the geometry and relative timing of ductile deformation events in this section of the hinterland of the Variscan belt. The structural evolution shows, in the first place, the development of a regional train of overturned folds with associated axial planar foliation (D1). Towards the lower structural levels, the deflection of the fold limbs and a subhorizontal crenulation cleavage depict the upper structural boundary of a superimposed low angle shear zone (D2), which extends at least to the deepest parts of the basement exposed in the study area. The amplification and rotation of D1 folds about a horizontal axis also occurred within this shear zone. The flat-lying character of the D2 structures accounts for the attenuation of the previously thickened crust, which developed following gravity gradients during thermal re-equilibration. Subsequent deformation led to the formation of two orthogonal sets of upright folds (D3), representing a new shift between crustal thinning and crustal thickening in the region. 相似文献

The In Ouzzal granulitic massif is composed mainly of various meta-igneous rocks which, in spite of Rb, U, Th, Cs and some K and Sr mobility, can be dated and generally classified according to their chemical composition as follows. Basic and ultrabasic granulites interlayered with the metasediments correspond to (1) ultrabasic cumulates from dislocated tholeiitic bodies, (2) ancient komatiitic to high-Mg tholeiitic basalts similar to the suites found in Archaean greenstone belts and (3) calcalkaline protoliths of high-K andesitic composition. No geochronological constraints are available apart from the depositional age of some associated sediments which is younger than 2.70 Ga detrital zircons, and the Nd model age of the andesitic granulites of c. 3.4 Ga. In spite of the high-grade metamorphism, the acidic magmatic precursors of the charnockites can be divided in three groups. (1) The most juvenile acid orthogneisses are trondhjemitic or tonalitic in composition, being similar to the TTG suites which are classically considered to be formed by partial melting of mantle-derived protoliths. The 3.3–3.2 Ga TDM indicates a possible age of separation from the mantle reservoir while the plutons may have been emplaced between 3.3 and 2.7 Ga (U–Pb zircon & Nd ages). (2) A group of alkaline granitic gneisses, similar in composition to rift-related-granites, were emplaced at 2650±10 Ma (U–Pb & Rb–Sr ages) in a thick continental crust. (3) Calcalkaline granodioritic and monzogranitic suites derived from the partial melting of continental precursors (3.5–3.3 Ga), in lower to middle levels of the continental crust. They were emplaced close to 2.5 Ga during crustal thickening. The very high-temperature metamorphism occurred at 2002±7 Ma from the age of synfoliation intrusions and was probably related to major overthrusting. Retrogressive metamorphism is dated at 1.95 Ga from garnet-Nd ages. In spite of the very high-temperature conditions, partial melting during granulite facies metamorphism may be restricted to scarce cordierite-bearing monzogranitic gneisses. The 2.0 Ga VHT metamorphism could be related to overthrusting, extensional or underplating processes. 相似文献

The geological and metallogenic history of the Singhbhum Craton of eastern India is marked by several episodes of volcanism, plutonism, sedimentation and mineralization spanning from Paleoarchean to Mesoproterozoic in a dynamic tectonic milieu. Distinct signatures of this Archean-Proterozoic geodynamic process are preserved in discrete crustal provinces that constitute the Singhbhum Craton. Here we report new major, trace and PGE geochemical data from the ~ 3.4 Ga Iron Ore Group (IOG) volcanic rocks of the Jamda-Koira basin, a part of the BIF-bearing volcano-sedimentary sequences of the Noamundi-Jamda-Koira iron ore basin in the western part of Singhbhum Granite (SBG), and ~ 2.25 Ga metavolcanic rocks of Malangtoli. The IOG and Malangtoli volcanic rocks are porphyritic basalts and despite belonging to different ages, they exhibit similar mineralogical composition marked by clinopyroxene, plagioclase (present as both phenocryst and groundmass), opaques and volcanic glass (restricted to groundmass). The igneous mineralogy of these rocks has been overprinted by greenschist to lower amphibolite grade of metamorphism. The Malangtoli samples show low and high MgO compositional varieties. Immobile trace element compositions classify the IOG samples as andesite having a calc-alkaline composition, whereas the Malangtoli rocks correspond to basalt and andesite displaying a tholeiitic to calc-alkaline trend. The IOG basalts show low to moderate PGE contents marked by 26.23–68.35 ppb of ΣPGE, whereas the Malangtoli basalts display a moderate to high concentration of PGE (ΣPGE = 43.01–190.43 ppb). The studied samples have relatively enriched ΣPPGE ranging from 24.1–63.3 ppb (IOG) and 34–227.3 ppb (Malangtoli) against 2.2–4.1 ppb and 1.9–8.9 ppb ΣIPGE contents respectively. PPGE/IPGE ratios for IOG and Malangtoli samples range from 7.7–17.6 and 4.8–59.9. HFSE, REE and PGE compositions suggest a low degree (< 1 to 1%) of partial melting in the garnet lherzolite domain for the generation of IOG volcanic rocks. The parental magma of the Malangtoli basalts were generated by lower to higher degrees (3–< 10%) of mantle melting at depths corresponding to spinel to garnet lherzolite regime. Trace element (Zr/Nb, Th/Ta, Th/Nb, Ni/Cu) and PGE (Pd/Ir, Pd/Pt, Cu/Pd, Ni/Pd, Cu/Ir) ratios corroborate a sulphide saturated and PGE depleted character of IOG volcanic rocks that underwent crustal assimilation. In contrast, the high MgO Malangtoli basalts exhibit sulphide undersaturated, PGE undepleted nature devoid of crustal contamination whereas the low MgO Malangtoli basalts are sulphide saturated, PGE depleted and crustally contaminated. The IOG volcanic rocks correspond to intraoceanic arc with polygenetic crustal signatures, and show affinity towards arc-generated calc-alkaline basalts. The low- and high MgO basalts of Malangtoli are affiliated to transitional arc to rift-controlled back arc tectonic setting in a basinal environment that developed proximal to an active convergent margin. 相似文献
