In the present paper the new petro- and paleomagnetic data on the Jurassic terrigenous complexes of the Mesozoic sedimentary basins of the Amur River region, Trans Baikal region, and Yakutia are presented. The magnetic properties of the sedimentary rocks of coastal-marine (paleo-shelf) and lake genesis are investigated in the contemporary intracontinental riftogenic Mesozoic superimposed troughs of the Siberian and Amur plates: the Chulmansk, the Unda-Dainsk, the Sredne-Amur, the Amuro-Zeisk, and the Verkhne-Bureinsk troughs. The statistically significant differences in the magnetic (anisotropic) characteristics of continental and marine deposits were inferred. The correlation of the scalar and tensor characteristics of magnetic susceptibility anisotropy and the parameters of its linearity, which depend indirectly on the intensity of the folding, is established. The preferential directions of regional stress during the fold formation are determined based on the analysis of the distribution of the axes of the tensor ellipsoid of the magnetic susceptibility anisotropy. The Jurassic positions of the paleomagnetic pole, which are close to the Mesozoic section of the trajectory of its apparent motion for the North Chinese plate and which differ from the Jurassic poles of the Siberian plate, are defined more accurately. The intraplate rotations of geoblocks within the limits of the amalgamated to the end of the Jurassic-to the beginning of the Cretaceous terrains as a part of the Amur tectonic plate are inferred. The calculated coordinates of the paleomagnetic pole indicate the larger than the present-day difference of the latitudinal positions of the southern part of the Siberian plate, and also of the Amur and North Chinese plates in the Early-Middle Jurassic time. This can be indicative of the fact that the total width of the shallow residual basins of the Paleo-Asian Ocean, which separated the geoblocks indicated in the Early-Middle Jurassic, attained the first thousands of kilometers, and/or such a difference in the paleolatitudes reflects the total value of the shortening (crowding) of the crust during the accretion and the fold formation. The time of the completion of the accretion of the terrains of the Amur and the North-Chinese plates and their attachment to the Siberian plate is not earlier than the end of the Late Jurassic-the beginning of the Cretaceous.  相似文献

During the Oligocene–Middle Miocene period widespread magmatic activity developed in Western Anatolia, following the continental collision between the Sakarya continent and the Tauride–Anatolide platform. This produced both intrusive and extrusive rocks, which appear to be associated in space and time, as exemplified from the Bayramiç area. In the Bayramiç area, the magmatic activity started with the intrusion of the Evciler granite, and the coeval lower volcanic association. This was followed by the development of the upper volcanic association. These rock groups form collectively the Bayramiç magmatic complex, which was generated under an on-going north–south compressional regime. The Bayramiç magmatic complex has a subalkaline composition, displaying a calcalkaline trend. Trace elements and REE contents resemble to island-arc and collision-related magmas. According to the isotope values the Bayramiç magmatic complex was derived from the magmas of lithospheric mantle origin, which were later contaminated, while passing through the thick continental crust, in a post-collisional tectonic setting, during the Oligocene–Early Miocene period. The latest product of the magmatism is the Late Miocene–Pliocene basalt lavas. Their geochemical properties are clearly different from the Oligocene–Early Miocene magmatic rocks. The basalts were generated when the north–south compression gave way to the north–south extensional regime.  相似文献

本文报道青藏高原羌北地区中-晚侏罗世雁石坪群古地磁新结果.对采自青海省格尔木市唐古拉山乡雁石坪剖面(33.6°N, 92.1°E)11个灰岩采点(118块)和10个碎屑岩采点(99块)定向样品系统古地磁学研究表明,大部分样品的退磁曲线具有双分量特征.低温分量方向在地理坐标系下较为集中,应该为地层褶皱之后的黏滞剩磁.高温特征剩磁分量方向可分为两类:(1)索瓦组(J3s)和布曲组(J2b)灰岩,以磁铁矿为主要载磁矿物,高温特征剩磁分量(Ds=355.7°,Is=42.1°,k=58.2,α95=6°)可通过99%置信度的褶皱检验.(2)雪山组(J2x)和雀莫错组(J2q)碎屑岩,以赤铁矿、磁铁矿为主要载磁矿物,高温特征剩磁分量(Ds=3.3°,Is=28.9°,k=30.7,α95=8.9°)可通过95%置信度的倒转检验和99%置信度的褶皱检验.两组分量都应该是岩石形成时的原生剩磁信息.碎屑岩组的磁倾角比灰岩组偏低13°左右,其剩磁方向很可能存在着与压实作用相关的剩磁倾角变浅的状况.本文取灰岩组平均磁化方向作为雁石坪群的原生剩磁分量,获得羌北地区雁石坪群古磁极位置:80.0°N,295.2°E(dp/dm=7.4/4.5).古地磁结果表明,羌北-昌都地区晚石炭-晚二叠世期间位于南纬中低纬度地区,早三叠世以后开始大规模北向漂移,至中-晚侏罗世已到达24.3°N.其快速北向运动主要发生在早三叠至早侏罗世期间(3500 km左右),与现今位置相比中晚侏罗世之后的北向迁移总量为900 km左右.  相似文献

Rocks of Late Cretaceous, Early Jurassic and Late Triassic age, collected in northern Mexico yield the following pole positions: 169.3°E57.9°N (Cretaceous), 70.7°E76.0°N (?Jurassic) and 119.2°E76.4°N (?Late Triassic). The Triassic and Cretaceous poles are not significantly different from those class-A poles (Hicken et al., 1972) of the North American craton. It is therefore suggested that the North American craton may be traced south as far as 23°N and inferentially a further four degrees (to the Mexican volcanic belt).The results from the La Boca Formation are interpreted as indicating a much greater age (Late Precambrian-Early (Paleozoic) than is currently assigned to that formation.  相似文献

The Ezine region is located in the northwestern part of Anatolia where young granitic and volcanic rocks are widespread and show close spatial and temporal association. In this region magmatism began with the Kestanbol granite, which intruded into metamorphic basement rocks, and formed contact metamorphic aureole. To the east and southeast the pluton is surrounded by hypabyssal rocks, which in turn, are surrounded by volcanic associations. The volcanic rocks may be divided into two main groups on the basis of their lithological properties. Lavas and lahar deposits dominate the northern sector while ignimbrites dominate the southern sector. The ignimbrite eruptions were formed partly coevally with the plutonic and the associated volcanic rocks during the early Miocene. They appear to have been associated in a caldera collapse environment. Geochemical properties of the plutonic and the associated volcanic assemblages indicate that the magmas are hybrid and co-genetic and, were formed from a similar mantle source, under a compressional regime prior to the opening of the present E–W-trending graben of the Aegean western Anatolian region.  相似文献

A magnetization which passes the fold test has been observed in 73 limestone samples (10 sites) from the Middle Jurassic Twin Creek Formation. The pole calculated from the site mean poles is located at 68.4°N, 145.0°E (K = 31.8,A95 = 8.7°). This pole lies in a segment of the North American apparent polar wander (APW) path for which there are only a few reliable poles in the literature. The results corroborate earlier studies which conclude that the Jurassic segment of the APW path does not include the present north pole. However, the position of the Twin Creek pole suggests that significantly more APW took place prior to the late Jurassic than previous studies indicated.  相似文献

Seamount magnetic anomaly inversions as well as DSDP paleomagnetic and equatorial sediment facies data constrain a paleomagnetic pole for the Pacific plate of Late Eocene age. The location of the pole at 77.5°N, 21.2°E implies 12.5 ± 1.6° of apparent polar wander for the Pacific plate during the last 41 ± 5 m.y. The Late Eocene pole is significantly different from the Pacific Maastrichtian pole at the 95% confidence level and indicates 7.2° of apparent polar motion of the Pacific between 69 and 41 m.y. B.P. The data source locations for the Late Eocene pole are scattered over a large area of the North Pacific and thus the consistency of the data supports the hypothesis that the north central Pacific plate has been rigid since the Eocene. The agreement of the Late Eocene pole with the motion predicted for the Pacific from hotspot models suggests that relative motion between the spin axis and hotspots has been small since that time. Additionally, this finding dictates that the significant amounts of hotspot versus spin axis motion inferred by other authors to have occurred since the Cretaceous must have instead occurred at a faster rate and concluded before the Eocene.  相似文献

Results are reported from palaeomagnetic samples collected in two traverses across the coast-parallel dyke swarm of southern Greenland. This swarm probably resulted as the consequence of initial rifting between Greenland and Labrador, and a reversal of magnetisation has been found which is correlated on the basis of KAr age determinations (~168 m.y.) with the Mateke event of the Middle Jurassic (Bajocian). All of fifteen sites show significant grouping of directions after a.f. cleaning; three have anomalous directions of magnetisation while the remainder (nine normal, three reversed) give a combined mean direction of D = 336°, I = 66° (α95 = 4.6°) with a palaeomagnetic pole at 191°E, 72°N. The dykes exhibit the same corelation between polarity and deuteric oxidation state as that found in Tertiary volcanics. There is a systematic change in magnetisation across the dyke swarm in south Greenland from normal to anomalous to reversed directions; this is interpreted as due to lateral migration of the response to the regional stress field with time. The pole position lies in the vicinity of Jurassic poles from North America after closing the Labrador Sea according to the reconstruction of Bullard, Everett and Smith, but the scatter of these latter poles precludes a confirmation of this reconstruction for Middle Jurassic and earlier times.  相似文献

We present rock-magnetic and paleomagnetic results obtained on samples belonging to a Neogene sequence of 11 successive lava flows and a dyke from La Gomera (Canary Islands, Spain). Analysis of thermomagnetic curves allows to distinguish three types of samples: (i) Type H samples with low-Ti titanomagnetite as the only carrier of remanence; (ii) type M samples with a main intermediate Curie-temperature phase (TC = 450°C) and low-Ti titanomagnetite; (iii) type L curves with a low Curie-temperature phase (TC = 120 to 200°C) and an intermediate Curie-temperature phase (TC = 400°C). Analysis of hysteresis parameters suggests that the grain size of most studied samples corresponds to pseudo single-domain particles, which can be also interpreted as a mixture of single-domain and multi-domain particles. Paleomagnetic experiments reveal only a single paleomagnetic component. Characteristic remanence of all studied lava flows and the dyke shows reverse polarity. The mean direction of the whole sequence is D = 188.2°, I =−35.4° (k = 46.9; α95 = 6.4°) and the calculated paleomagnetic pole yields a longitude λ= 150.7° and a latitude ϕ= 78.8° (k = 59.4; A95 = 5.7°). Secular variation is analysed through the scatter of virtual geomagnetic poles (VGP). A VGP angular scatter SB = 5.9 with an upper confidence limit Sup = 8.0 and a lower confidence limit Slow = 4.6 are obtained. This scatter is clearly smaller than the average for this latitude obtained for the last 5 Ma. The studied lava flows were probably emitted in a relatively short time interval.  相似文献

Whether benthic macroalga can be an important type of bio-precursor of source rocks is a contentious issue in source-rock studies, and has not been well understood. This paper represents a case study of Jurassic mudstone source rocks from the northern Qaidam Basin, northwestern China, in which the benthic macro red algae were recognized for the first time based on combined organic petrological and biomarker works. We found not only cystocarps in the algae, representative of rhodophyta, but also diahopanes, which are diagnostic biomarkers of such algae. Thus, as many reservoired oils in the northern Qaidam Basin contain abundant diahopanes, it may indicate that the red algae have contributed to hydrocarbon accumulation. This was confirmed by integrated geological and geochemical analyses. Hence, this study provides new evidence for macroalga-generated hydrocarbons. The meteorite Abee is a type 4 enstatite chondrite with many centimeter-size clasts. The paleomagnetic conglomerate test was applied to these clasts, to study the thermal and magnetic history of the meteorite. The directions of magnetization in mutually oriented clasts are significantly different, suggesting the meteorite was not reheated to temperatures much above 100°C during or after accretion. Paleointensity estimates were made using Thellier's method. Interior samples which were probably not reheated during entry into the earth's atmosphere show paleointensities of several oersteds. The fusion crust is also strongly magnetized, showing paleointensities up to 60 Oe.  相似文献

The reverse paleomagnetism of the lava flows of Laschamp and Olby, already discovered by Bonhommet and Babkine, is confirmed. The ages of these flows, measured by14C, thermoluminescence and K-Ar dating are respectively36,000 ± 4000 and42,000 ± 5000years. VGP's comparison of the “Laschamp event” with those of the 30,000-year Lake Mungo excursion does not show evidence of coincidence between these two events.  相似文献

Most paleomagnetic applications require a precise, rationally organized and up-todate catalogue or database of paleomagnetic results worldwide. These include reconstructions of continents, calculations of the Apparent Polar Wander Paths (APWPs) or paleolatitude drift curves, testing the Geocentric Axial Dipole (GAD) model, studies of geomagnetic paleosecular variation or reversal asymmetries, comparison of coeval results obtained from different types of rocks, estimation of inclination shallowing in sedimentary rocks and understanding the delay in remanence acquisition caused by slow cooling in large intrusions. For this purpose, various databases, such as the Global Paleomagnetic Database (GPMDB), and the Magnetics Information Consortium Database (MagIC) have been generated. This paper presents a new relational database (PALEOMAGIA) where 3278 entries of Precambrian data have been split geographically, sorted according to age and rock types and ranked using a revised version of the Van der Voo grading scheme. The latest geochronologic information is included wherever available. Significant effort has been put to the retrieval and archiving of data published in the last decade, which are virtually nonexistent in GPMDB. Here we present the database and its browser-based user interface from a scientific and a technical point of view.  相似文献

Occurrence and field relations of an extensive ignimbrite sheet near Afyon in Central Anatolia are described. These rhyolitic ignimbrites are part of the important Neogene volcanic activity in Turkey and belong to the alignment of volcanic complexes along the inner border of the Taurian ranges. In close stratigraphical connection and in the same tectonic position as the rhyolites there occurs an assemblage of high-potassic, intermediate to basic volcanic rocks (alkali trachytes, mela-trachytes, latites and leucite-bearing rocks). Petrological and magmatological considerations led to the conclusion that the rhyolites and the potassic series, in spite of the close geological connection, are not related by processes of magmatic differentiation. Arguments in favour of an anatectic origin of the rhyolitic melt are presented. The occurrence of garnet and allanite as accessory minerals and as inclusions in the salic minerals of the ignimbrite are interpreted as relictic witnesses of a sialic parent rock. However, the trace elements, especially high Rb connected with low Sr, Ba and Zr and K/Rb ratios below 100 give a pattern generally explained by strong fractionation processes.  相似文献

The Wackerfield Dyke is exposed in northern England and its field relationships suggest it could be related to the Eocene Mull Dyke Swarm. Wackerfield Dyke specimens taken from below the zone of surface weathering have a natural remanent magnetization that is extremely stable to thermal and alternating field demagnetization. Stability is expected because the Fe-Ti oxides are highly oxidized. The stable magnetization is identical with a primary remanence that can be isolated from certain samples of the Whin Sill of northern England, and gives a mean pole at 175°E, 22°N (dp = 2°, dm = 3°). An Upper Carboniferous age for the Wackerfield Dyke is confirmed by a K-Ar whole rock age of 303 my.  相似文献

This paper presents paleomagnetic results obtained from the study of Early Proterozoic rocks in the Baikal Range of the Siberian craton, namely, the 1850–1880-Ma volcanicalstic rocks of the Akitkanskian series of the North Baikal volcanic-plutonic belt) and 1674-Ma basic dikes of the Chaya complex within the massif. The data of this work are used to reconstruct the development of the Siberian craton structure in the Early Precambrian. The projections of the inferred paleomagnetic directions onto a sphere form S (southern) and W (western) groups of vectors of characteristic magnetization components. The S group consists of three clusters representing primary magnetization components belonging to different time levels of the end of the Early Proterozoic. The W group is represented by directions associated with a metachronous magnetization probably acquired during the Riphean. Four paleomagnetic poles are obtained. Two of them that can be regarded as key poles correspond to time levels of 1875 and 1670 Ma (the Early Proterozoic). The two other poles can be used for a detailed reconstruction of the Proterozoic segment of the Siberian apparent polar wander path. The data presented in the paper indicate that the formation of the southern Siberian craton structure was accomplished at the end of the Early Proterozoic, which resulted in a synchronous motion of different blocks composing the southern flank of the craton (in particular, the Sharyzhalgai and Baikal Ranges).  相似文献

Methods of selecting paleomagnetic data for the construction of apparent polar wander paths (APWPs) are analyzed. It is shown that the existing criteria of reliability of paleomagnetic data cannot be regarded as evidence for their validity. In other words, no unambiguous dependence exists between the reliability and the closeness of paleomagnetic poles to a hypothetical region crossed by the reliable APWP. A new approach to the construction of paleomagnetic APWPs based on simple principles (principle of space and principle of time) is proposed. Using a numerical implementation of this algorithm, three stable clusters were determined (L p = 164, F p = 43; L p = 144, F p = 13; and L p = 170, F p = ?2); the respective maximum estimates of their ages are 248–251, 345, and 385 Ma. These clusters can be regarded as reliable paleomagnetic poles in the Paleozoic of the East European platform.  相似文献

Primary and secondary earthquake effects were investigated (surface breakage and felt effects in the villages of Tilichiki, Korf, and Khailino) in the epicentral area of a large earthquake occurring in northern Kamchatka Krai. The primary effects include an extended surface break that can be followed for a length of about 140 km. The secondary (gravitational and vibrational) effects include soil slides and minor rockfalls, snow flows on slopes, resonant cracks, soil liquefaction phenomena consisting of mud cones, mud gryphons, and discharges of soil from cracks. Detailed maps showing the main types of earthquake surface effects have been made. Paleoseismic data show traces of several large earthquakes that have occurred in the Olyutorskii earthquake zone. Radio carbon dating of soil samples from these paleoseismic scarps revealed a history of great earthquakes occurring in Koryakia. In all, four seismic events with magnitudes about that of the 2006 Olyutorskii earthquake have occurred there during 8000 years, the return period of such events being 1000–2500 years.  相似文献
