Using the Main Stellar Spectrograph of the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope equipped with a polametric analyzer, we measured the longitudinal magnetic field component B for the T Tauri stars T Tau and AS 507 on January 16 and 18 and February 15, 2003. For both stars, we determined only the upper limits on B from photospheric lines: +15±30 G for T Tau and ?70±90 G for AS 507. The magnetic field of AS 507 was not measured previously, while B for T Tau is lower than its values that we obtained in 1996 and 2002 (B?150±50G), suggesting that the longitudinal magnetic field component in the photosphere of T Tau is variable. We also measured the longitudinal magnetic field component for T Tau in the formation region of the He I 5876 Å emission line. We found B in this region to be ?+650, ?+350, and ?+1100 G on January 16, 18, and February 15, 2003, respectively. Our observations on January 18 and February 15 correspond to virtually the same phase of the star's rotation period, but the profiles of the He I 5876 Å line differ markedly on these two nights. Therefore, we believe that the threefold difference between the B values on these nights does not result from observational errors. We discuss the possible causes of the B variability in the photosphere and the magnetosphere of T Tau.  相似文献

We present measurements of the longitudinal magnetic field component B of the young star BP Tau in the He I 5876 emission line formation region, i.e., in the accretion flow near the stellar surface. The values obtained (?1.7 kG and ?1.0 kG in 2000 and 2001, respectively) agree with the results of similar measurements by other authors. At the same time, we show that the previously obtained field strength at the magnetic pole, B p, and the inclination of the magnetic axis to the rotation axis, β, are untrustworthy. In our opinion, based on the B measurements available to date, it is not possible to conclude whether the star’s magnetic field is a dipole one or has a more complex configuration and to solve the question of whether this field is stationary. However, we argue that at least in the He I 5876 line formation region, the star’s magnetic field is not stationary and can be restructured in a time of the order of several hours. Nonstationary small-scale magnetic fields of active regions on the stellar surface and/or magnetospheric field line reconnection due to the twisting of these field lines as the star rotates could be responsible for the short-term magnetic field variability. It seems highly likely that there are no strictly periodic variations in brightness and emission line profiles in BP Tau due to the irregular restructuring of the star’s magnetic field.  相似文献

Results of ourmeasurements of the longitudinal magnetic field B z for the young star RWAur A are presented. B z measured from the so-called narrow component of the He I 5876 line varies in the range from −1.47 ± 0.15 to +1.10 ± 0.15 kG. Our data are consistent with a stellar rotation period of }~5.6 days and the model of two hot spots with opposite magnetic field polarities spaced about 180° apart in longitude. Relative to the Earth, the spot with B z < 0 lies in the hemisphere above the midplane of the accretion disk, while the spot with B z > 0 is below the midplane. The upper limit for B z (at the 3σ level) obtained by averaging all observations is 180 G for the photosphere and 220 and 230 G for the Hα and [OI] 6300 line formation regions, respectively. We have also failed to detect a field in the formation region of broad emission line components: the upper limit for B z is 600 G. In two of 11 cases, we have detected a magnetic field in the formation region of the blue absorption wing of the Na I D doublet lines, i.e., in the wind from RW Aur A: B z = −180 ± 50 and −810 ± 80 G. The radial velocity of the photospheric lines in RW Aur A averaged over all our observations is }~+10.5 km s−1, i.e., a value lower than that obtained by Petrov et al. (2001) ten years earlier by 5.5 km s−1. Therefore, we discuss the possibility that RW Aur is not a binary but a triple system.  相似文献

Using polarimetric spectra obtained with the SOFIN spectrograph installed at the Nordic Optical Telescope, we detect a longitudinal magnetic field 〈Bz〉 = –168±35 G in the Of?p star HD 108. This result is in agreement with the longitudinal magnetic field measurement of the order of –150 G recently reported by the MiMeS team. The measurement of the longitudinal magnetic field in the Of?p star HD 191612 results in 〈Bz〉 = +450±153 G. The only previously published magnetic field measurement for this star showed a negative longitudinal magnetic field 〈Bz〉 = –220±38 G, indicating a change of polarity over ∼100 days. Further, we report the detection of distinct Zeeman features in the narrow Ca II and Na I doublet lines for both Of?p stars, hinting at the possible presence of material around these stars. The origin of these features is not yet clear and more work is needed to investigate how magnetic fields interact with stellar wind dynamics (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We report the results of our search for magnetic fields in a sample of 16 field Be stars, the binary emission‐line B‐type star υ Sgr, and in a sample of fourteen members of the open young cluster NGC3766 in the Carina spiral arm. The sample of cluster members includes Be stars, normal B‐type stars and He‐strong/He‐weak stars. Nine Be stars have been studied with magnetic field time series obtained over ∼1 hour to get an insight into the temporal behaviour and the correlation of magnetic field properties with dynamical phenomena taking place in Be star atmospheres. The spectropolarimetric data were obtained at the European Southern Observatory with the multi‐mode instrument FORS1 installed at the 8m Kueyen telescope. We detect weak photospheric magnetic fields in four field Be stars, HD 62367, μ Cen, o Aqr, and ε Tuc. The strongest longitudinal magnetic field, 〈Bz〉 = 117 ± 38 G, was detected in the Be star HD 62367. Among the Be stars studied with time series, one Be star, λ Eri, displays cyclic variability of the magnetic field with a period of 21.12 min. The binary star υ Sgr, in the initial rapid phase of mass exchange between the two components with strong emission lines in the visible spectrum, is a magnetic variable star, probably on a timescale of a few months. The maximum longitudinal magnetic field 〈Bz〉 = –102 ± 10 G at MJD 54333.018 was measured using hydrogen lines. The cluster NGC3766 seems to be extremely interesting, where we find evidence for the presence of a magnetic field in seven early B‐type stars out of the observed fourteen cluster members (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We present measurements of magnetic field strength and geometry on the surfaces of T Tauri stars (TTS) with and without circumstellar disks. We use these measurements to argue that magnetospheric accretion models should not assume that a fixed fraction of the stellar surface contains magnetic field lines that couple with the disk. We predict the fractional area of accretion footpoints, using magnetospheric accretion models and assuming field strength is roughly constant for all TTS. Analysis of Zeeman broadened infrared line profiles shows that individual TTS each have a distribution of surface magnetic field strengths extending up to 6 kG. Averaging over this distribution yields mean magnetic field strengths of 1-3 kG for all TTS, regardless of whether the star is surrounded by a disk. These strong magnetic fields suggest that magnetic pressure dominates gas pressure in TTS photospheres, indicating the need for new model atmospheres. The He I 5876 Å emission line in TTS can be strongly polarized, so that magnetic field lines at the footpoints of accretion have uniform polarity. The circular polarization signal appears to be rotationally modulated, implying that accretion and perhaps the magnetosphere are not axisymmetric. Time series spectropolarimetry is fitted reasonably well by a simple model with one magnetic spot on the surface of a rotating star. On the other hand, spectropolarimetry of photospheric absorption lines rules out a global dipolar field at the stellar surface for at least some TTS.  相似文献

This article summarizes the processes of high‐energy emission in young stellar objects. Stars of spectral type A and B are called Herbig Ae/Be (HAeBe) stars in this stage, all later spectral types are termed classical T Tauri stars (CTTS). Both types are studied by high‐resolution X‐ray and UV spectroscopy and modeling. Three mechanisms contribute to the highenergy emission from CTTS: 1) CTTS have active coronae similar to main‐sequence stars, 2) the accreted material passes through an accretion shock at the stellar surface, which heats it to a few MK, and 3) some CTTS drive powerful outflows. Shocks within these jets can heat the plasma to X‐ray emitting temperatures. Coronae are already well characterized in the literature; for the latter two scenarios models are shown. The magnetic field suppresses motion perpendicular to the field lines in the accretion shock, thus justifying a 1D geometry. The radiative loss is calculated as optically thin emission. A mixture of shocked and coronal gas is fitted to X‐ray observations of accreting CTTS. Specifically, the model explains the peculiar line‐ratios in the He‐like triplets of Ne IX and O VII. All stars require only small mass accretion rates to power the X‐ray emission. In contrast, the HAeBe HD 163296 has line ratios similar to coronal sources, indicating that neither a high density nor a strong UV‐field is present in the region of the X‐ray emission. This could be caused by a shock in its jet. Similar emission is found in the deeply absorbed CTTS DG Tau. Shock velocities between 400 and 500 km s–1 are required to explain the observed spectrum (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The problem on heating the atmospheres of T Tauri stars by radiation from an accretion shock has been solved. The structure and radiation spectrum of the emerging so-called hot spot have been calculated in the LTE approximation. The emission not only in continuum but also in lines has been taken into account for the first time when calculating the spot spectrum. Comparison with observations has shown that the strongest of these lines manifest themselves as narrow components of helium and metal emission lines, while the weaker ones decrease significantly the depth of photospheric absorption lines, although until now, this effect has been thought to be due to the emission continuum alone. The veiling by lines changes the depth of different photospheric lines to a very different degree even within a narrow spectral range. Therefore, the nonmonotonic wavelength dependence of the degree of veiling r found for some CTTS does not suggest a nontrivial spectral energy distribution of the veiling continuum. In general, it makes sense to specify the degree of veiling r only by providing the set of photospheric lines from which this quantity was determined. We show that taking into account the contribution of lines to the veiling of the photospheric spectrum can cause the existing estimates of the accretion rate onto T Tauri stars to decrease by several times, with this being also true for stars with a comparatively weakly veiled spectrum. Neglecting the contribution of lines to the veiling can also lead to appreciable errors in determining the effective temperature, interstellar extinction, radial velocity, and v sin i.  相似文献

Using LTE calculations of the structure of T Tauri stellar atmospheres heated by radiation from an accretion shock (Dodin and Lamzin 2012), we have calculated the spectrum of the hot spot emerging on the stellar surface by taking into account non-LTE effects for He I, He II, Ca I, and Ca II. Assuming the pre-shock gas density N 0 and velocity V 0 to be the same at all points of the accretion stream cross section, we have calculated the spectrum of the star+circular spot system at various N 0, V 0, and parameters characterizing the star and the spot. Using nine stars as an example, we show that the theoretical optical spectra reproduce well the observed veiling of photospheric absorption lines as well as the profiles and intensities of the so-called narrow components of He II and Ca I emission lines with an appropriate choice of parameters. The accreted gas density in all of the investigated stars except DK Tau has been found to be N 0 > 1012 cm?3. We have managed to choose the parameters for eight stars at a calcium abundance in the accreted gas ξ Ca equal to the solar one, but we have been able to achieve agreement between the calculations and observations for TW Hya only by assuming ξ Ca to be approximately a factor of 3 lower than the solar one. The estimated parameters do not depend on interstellar extinction, because they have been determined from the spectra normalized to the continuum level. The calculated intensity of Ca II lines has turned out to be lower than the observed one, but this contradiction can be eliminated by assuming that, in addition to the accreted gas with a high density N 0, a more rarefied gas also falls onto the star. The theoretical equivalent widths and relative intensities of the subordinate He I lines disagree significantly with the observations. This is apparently because non-LTE effects should be taken into account when calculating the structure of the upper layers of the hot spot, the accuracy of the cross sections for collisional processes from upper levels is insufficient, and the spot inhomogeneity should probably be taken into account.  相似文献

Our knowledge of the presence and the strength of magnetic fields in intermediate‐mass pre‐main‐sequence stars remains very poor. We present new magnetic field measurements in six Herbig Ae/Be stars observed with HARPS in spectropolarimetric mode. We downloaded from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) archive the publically available HARPS spectra for six Herbig Ae/Be stars. Wavelength shifts between right‐ and left‐hand side circularly polarised spectra were interpreted in terms of a longitudinal magnetic field 〈Bz〉, using the moment technique introduced by Mathys. The application of the moment technique to the HARPS spectra allowed us in addition to study the presence of the crossover effect and quadratic magnetic fields. Our search for longitudinal magnetic fields resulted in first detections of weak magnetic fields in the Herbig Ae/Be stars HD 58647 and HD 98922. Further, we confirm the previous tentative detection of a weak magnetic field in HD 104237 by Donati et al. and confirm the previous detection of a magnetic field in the Herbig Ae star HD 190073. Surprisingly, the measured longitudinal magnetic field of HD 190073, 〈Bz〉 = 91 ± 18 G at a significance level of 5σ is not in agreement with the measurement results of Alecian et al. (2013), 〈Bz〉 = –10 ± 20 G, who applied the LSD method to exactly the same data. No crossover effect was detected for any star in the sample. Only for HD 98922 the crossover effect was found tobe close to 3σ with a measured value of –4228 ± 1443 km s–1 G. A quadratic magnetic field of the order of 10 kG was detected in HD 98922, and of ∼3.5 kG in HD 104237. (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Observations with the 6-m telescope revealed eight new magnetic, chemically peculiar stars: HD 29925, HD 40711, HD 115606, HD 168796, HD 178892, HD 196691, HD 209051, and BD+32°2827. Zeeman observations of all these objects have been carried out for the first time. We selected candidates by analyzing the depression profile at a wavelength of λ5200 Å. This technique for selecting candidate magnetic stars was shown to be efficient: we found magnetic fields in 14 of the 15 objects that we selected for our observations with a Zeeman analyzer. A maximum longitudinal field strength B e exceeding 8 kG was found in HD 178892; in HD 209051 and HD196691, B e reaches 3.3 and 2.2 kG, respectively. For the remaining stars, we obtained lower limits of the longitudinal field (more than several hundred G).  相似文献

We present the results of our new spectropolarimetric observations of FKCom aimed to measure the longitudinal component B z of its magnetic field. The most interesting interpretation of our results suggests that the B z value has significantly decreased compared to the 2008 observations of this star. Such a decrease of the longitudinal component of the magnetic field can be similar to the secular variations of B z registered earlier for another chromospherically active star II Peg. On the other hand, assuming the existence of B z variations with the rotation phase, we suggest that the variations of the phase curve B z from 2008 to 2012 originated because of the strengthening of the negative polarity spot, its domination, and as a result-a generally more symmetric distribution of magnetic regions.  相似文献

We make a comparative analysis of magnetic fields and rotation parameters of magnetic CP stars with strong and weak anomalies in the spectral energy distribution. Stars with strong depressions in the continuum at 5200 Å are shown to have significantly stronger fields (the mean longitudinal component of the fields of these stars is 〈B e〉 = 1341 ± 98 G) compared to objects with weaker depressions (〈B e〉 = 645 ± 58 G). Stars with stronger depressions are also found to occur more commonly among slow rotators. Their rotation periods are, on the average, about 10 days long, three times longer than these of stars with weak depressions (about three days). This fact is indicative of a decrease of the degree of anomality of the magnetic stars continuum spectrum with increasing rotational velocity. Yet another proof has been obtained suggesting that slow rotation is one of the crucial factors contributing to the development of the phenomenon of magnetic chemically peculiar stars.Magnetic CP stars with weak depressions at 5200 Å are intermediate objects between stars with strong depressions and normal A- and B-type stars both in terms of field strength and rotational velocity.  相似文献

We present the results of time variability analysis of the Hα, He I (λ5876 Å) and Na D (λ5890, 5896 Å) lines in two active T Tauri stars, DL Tau and DR Tau. The aim is the study of time behavior of these lines, during one week, as well as possible correlations among them. The observed profiles of some lines are very complex, often showing characteristics of outflow and accretion.  相似文献

This is the first paper of the series dedicated to the analysis of the magnetism of chemically peculiar (CP) stars of the upper Main Sequence. We use our own measurements and published data to compile a catalog of magnetic CP stars containing a total of 326 objects with confidently detected magnetic fields and 29 stars which are very likely to possess magnetic field. We obtained the data on the magnetism of the overwhelming majority of the stars solely based on the analysis of longitudinal field component B e . The surface magnetic field, B s , has been measured for 49 objects. Our analysis shows that the number of magnetic CP stars decreases with increasing field strength in accordance with exponential law, and stars with B e exceeding 5kG occur rarely (about 3% objects of our list).  相似文献

Surface temperature inhomogeneities in classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) induced by magnetic activity andmass accretion lead to rotationalmodulation of both photometric and spectroscopic parameters of these stars. Using the extended photometric catalogue byGrankin et al., we have derived the periods and amplitudes of the rotational modulation of brightness and color for 31 CTTS; for six of them, the periods have been revealed for the first time. The inclinations of the rotation axis and equatorial rotational velocities of CTTS have been determined. We show that the known periods of brightness variations for some of the CTTS are not the axial rotation periods but are the Keplerian periods near the inner boundary of the dusty disk. We have found that the angular velocity of CTTS with a mass of 0.3?3M ?? in the Taurus-Auriga complex remains constant in the age range 1?C10 Myr. CTTS on radiative evolutionary tracks rotate faster than completely convective CTTS. The specific angular momentum of CTTS depends on the absolute luminosity in the H?? line.  相似文献

The results of a non-LTE analysis of a number of spectral lines formed in the accreting envelopes of UX Ori stars are given. The accretion rate is estimated from an analysis of the first three lines of the Balmer series: M a = 10?8 ?10?9 M The gas temperature in this region is about 10,000 K. In the immediate vicinity of the star there is a hotter region, with T > 15,000 K, in which the 5876 Å line of neutral helium, observed in the spectra of these stars, is formed. The region of formation of this line has a small geometrical thickness, covers a small fraction of the star’s visible disk, and evidently consists of the site of contact of the accreting gas with the stellar surface. The low gas rotation rates in this region (150–200 km/sec) may mean that rapid rotation of the accreting gas is damped by the star’s magnetic field, which is strong enough to affect the gas stream. We estimate the magnetic field strength in this region to be about 150 G.  相似文献

The amount of excess emission in the near-infrared spectrum of classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) is higher than predicted by current models. This lack of understanding about the CTTS systems impinges directly on our ability to achieve a deeper knowledge of the final stages of low mass stars formation, of the pre-main sequence history of the Sun and even on the processes that lead to planet formation. Here I present a portion of the Unsolved Universe of the CTTS systems and some Challenges for the Future in this field.  相似文献

We present the results of magnetic field measurements of four chemically peculiar (CP) stars with helium abundance anomalies which are the members of the Orion stellar association OB1. The stars under study were classified as magnetic by other authors earlier. The present paper contains the results of the extensive study of the stars. Magnetic field measurements allowed us to conclude that HD36540 has a weak field and the longitudinal component B e does not exceed 500 G. The longitudinal field of HD36668 varies with the period P = 2. d 11884 and the amplitude from ?2 to +2 kG. The magnetic field of HD36916 has mainly negative polarity and varies within the range from 0 to ?1 kG with the period P = 1.d 565238. HD37058 is a magnetic star, the longitudinal field of which varies from ?1.2 to +0.8 kG with the period P = 14. d 659. The B e field variability pattern for the stars HD36916 and HD37058 is of a simple harmonic type. The longitudinal field of HD36668 is best described with two combined harmonic functions (“a doublewave”). The variability period of HD36540 is still undetermined. For all the stars from this paper, we measured radial velocities V r, axial rotation rates v e sin i, and determined basic parameters of atmospheres (effective temperatures T eff and gravity acceleration log g). We also estimated masses M, luminosities L, and radii R of the stars.  相似文献

We present new photometric UBVRI and spectroscopic observations of the symbiotic star YY Her during its return to quiescence after a strong outburst in 1993. High-resolution spectra of YY Her at similar phases at outburst maximum ?=0.48) and in quiescence ?=0.37) are presented for the first time. The ephemeris of YY Her has been refined P=586d). The last two observed minima (in 1999 and 2000) differed radically in shape from the 1997 minimum described previously. Both were sharp and deep $(\Delta U \sim 1\mathop .\limits^m 6, \Delta V \sim 0\mathop .\limits^m 9)$ . To explain this shape of the V light curve, which is only slightly affected by nebular emission, it should be assumed that the cool component of YY Her fills much of its Roche lobe and has a hot spot on the hemisphere facing the hot component. The emission spectrum rich in Fe II lines, which is characteristic of symbiotic stars, was observed during the outburst, but high-ionization lines (He II λ4686) were also observed. The He I λλ5876, 7065 lines exhibit distinct P Cyg profiles; the centers of the absorption components are shifted from the emission ones by V r≈100 km s?1, suggesting moderate outflow velocities.  相似文献
