The effective lithospheric elastic thickness of the continent is an important parameter for examination of the large-scale structure and analyses of the mechanism of isostatic compensation within the plate, and a parameter standing for the strength of the lithosphere.The Te values along Quanzhou-Heishui,the southeast section of the Arctic Ocean-Eurasian Continent-Pacific Ocean geoscience transect, are estimated by using the coherence technique developed by Forsyth.Studies of the feature of the coher-ence between gravity and topography suggest that at short wavelengths(6.6-100km)for each data box that is used to estimate Te,the plate is strong enough to support topographic loads and gravity and topog-raphy are uncorrelated.At long wavelengths where the plate is deflected by surface and subsurface loads are compensated by the flexure model.Sichuan land-stone with low heat-flow values has high Te values whereas in Ninghua,Datian,land-stone with high heat-flow values has low Te values,which reflects a correlation,low heat-flow values corresponding to high Te values and high heat-flow values corresponding to low Te values.Te values can be divided into two sections:northwest high section and southeast low sec-tion.There is roughly a positive correlation between crustal thickness and effective elastic thickness of the lithosphere.  相似文献

The Andaman–Nicobar (A–N) Islands region has attracted many geo-scientists because of its unique location and complex geotectonic settings. The recent occurrence of tsunamis due to the megathrust tsunamigenic north Sumatra earthquake (Mw 9.3) with a series of aftershocks in the A–N region caused severe damage to the coastal regions of India and Indonesia. Several pieces of evidence suggest that the occurrence of earthquakes in the A–N region is related to its complex geodynamical processes. In this study, it has been inferred that deep-seated structural heterogeneities related to dehydration of the subducting Indian plate beneath the Island could have induced the process of brittle failure through crustal weakening to contribute immensely to the coastal hazard in the region. The present study based on 3-D P-wave tomography of the entire rupture zone of the A–N region using the aftershocks of the 2004 Sumatra–Andaman earthquake (Mw 9.3) clearly demonstrates the role of crustal heterogeneity in seismogenesis and in causing the strong shakings and tsunamis. The nature and extent of the imaged crustal heterogeneity beneath the A–N region may have facilitated the degree of damage and extent of coastal hazards in the region. The 3-D velocity heterogeneities reflect asperities that manifest what type of seismogenic layers exist beneath the region to dictate the size of earthquakes and thereby they help to assess the extent of earthquake vulnerability in the coastal regions. The inference of this study may be used as one of the potential inputs for assessment of seismic vulnerability to the region, which may be considered for evolving earthquake hazard mitigation model for the coastal areas of the Andaman–Nicobar Islands region.  相似文献

Pillow lavas in Bompoka island of the Andaman–Nicobar islands, forming a part of Sunda–Burmese forearc, are composed of plagioclase and clinopyroxene microphenocrysts in a fine-grained ferruginous groundmass along with glass. They are also characterized by several quench plagioclase and clinopyroxene morphologies. Zr/TiO2 versus Nb/Y relationship of these pillow lavas show that these are tholeiitic basalts in composition. These basalts have low MgO (5.19–6.12 wt%), Ni (84–118 ppm), and Cr (144–175 ppm) abundance and high FeO(T)/MgO (1.71–1.92) ratios, reflecting their fractionated nature. In Th/Yb versus Nb/Yb and Ti/Yb versus Nb/Yb binary diagrams, they show N-MORB affinity. However, La/Nb–Y and Ce/Nb–Th/Nb relationships along with a slight LREE depleted (LaN/YbN = 0.75–0.82) pattern and high Ba/Zr (0.28–0.40) ratios and LILE (K, Rb, Ba, Sr and Th) enrichment relative to N-MORB, suggest their back-arc basin basalt affinity. It is inferred that these pillow basalts have been derived from a metasomatised N-MORB-like mantle source in a trench-distal (wider) back-arc basin, probably near the leading edge of the Eurasian continent during Early to Late Cretaceous times, prior to the currently active Andaman–Java subduction system.  相似文献

Numerous short sediment cores have been retrieved from the central Arctic Ocean, many of which have been assigned sedimentation rates on the order of mm/ka implying that the Arctic Basin was starved of sediments during Plio–Pleistocene times. A review of both shorter-term sedimentation rates, through analysis of available sediment core data, and longer-term sedimentation rates, through estimates of total sediment thickness and bedrock age, suggests that cm/ka-scale rates are pervasive in the central Arctic Ocean. This is not surprising considering the physiographic setting of the Arctic Ocean, being a small land-locked basin since its initial opening during Early Cretaceous times. We thus conclude that the central Arctic Ocean has not been a sediment starved basin, either during Plio–Pleistocene times or during pre-Pliocene times. Rigorous chronstratigraphic analysis permits correlation of sediment cores over a distance of ∼2600 km, from the northwestern Amerasia Basin to the northwestern Eurasia Basin via the Lomonosov Ridge, using paleomagnetic, biostratigraphic, and cyclostratigraphic data.  相似文献

Contourite is one of the most important type of sediments in the global ocean, which has recorded significant information on paleoclimatic changes. It is also of great importance for ocean engineering and marine hydrocarbon exploration. The development of scientific ocean drilling, especially the “Integrated Ocean Drilling Program” and the undergoing “International Ocean Discovery Program”, has made great contribution in mapping the spatial distribution of contourites and revealing contourite-related paleoclimatic information, through coring and geophysical exploration in the global ocean. It is found that the global distribution of contourites is controlled predominantly by the global deep-water circulation while its distribution in a specific region can be affected by the intensity of deep currents, tectonic activities, sediment supply, and so on. The geological changes in the global deep-water circulation is, however, further affected by tectonic activities, origins of water masses, as well as climate changes, e.g. the Cenozoic global cooling, changes in the size of the northern hemisphere ice caps, and intensity of monsoon. The main controlling factors of deep water circulation vary with different regions.  相似文献

为了探索石灰华扇沉积物中微型生物多样性特征, 作者2006年7~9月对贵州中部马脚冲瀑布石灰华扇进行了野外生态学调查,釆集样品和标本50份。经室内初步分析和鉴定, 该瀑布石灰华扇中含有4大微型生物多样性类群共25个物种,它们是蓝细菌(Cyanobacteria)1个种,原生动物(Protozoan) 16个种,绿藻(Green algae) 1个种,硅藻(Diatoms)7个种。此外,石灰华扇中还发现了苔藓植物(Bryophytes)6个种。石灰华扇沉积物的形成,是微型生物多样性-石灰华扇沉积相互作用的地质生态学结果。  相似文献

Modern concepts on variations of the redox conditions of Proterozoic ocean and atmosphere are reviewed. Generalized data indicate a non-linear evolution of the О2 content in atmosphere and ocean for almost 2 Ga of the geological history. Contrasting distribution of minimum and maximum values of diverse proxies of the ocean redox state was found for the Great Oxygenation Event, Early–Late Proterozoic transition stage, and the Late Precambrian–beginning of Cambrian. The last interval is marked by a wide scatter of Mo, V, and Used concentrations and values of Мо/TOC, δ98Mo, δ53Cr, and δ82Se in different geological objects. This time interval also coincided with one more large-scale oxygenation event, Neoproterozoic. Thus, according to the modern concepts, the О2 contents near the Earth’s surface and in ocean significantly varied during the entire Proterozoic. These concepts are consistent with the assumption by Frolov and many other researchers concerning the heterogeneous distribution of рН and Eh in ancient hydrosphere and the existence of diverse, sufficiently contrasting “gas” facies. They also agree with conclusions by Sochava that the periodical variations of О2 content in atmosphere and hydrosphere, especially at the Precambrian–Phanerozoic boundary, are related to the mass extinctions, emergence of adaptive response of animals (appearance of exoskeletons, food search strategy change, and others) and heavy taxonomic radiation of the latters.  相似文献

Manganese nodules in areas CP and CC of the central Pacific are rich in REE. Comparatively speaking,the REE contents of nodules in area CP are hihger than those in area CC; and the REE contents of nodulesfrom seamounts are higher than those of nodules from sea-floor plains and hills. Within the nodules, the REEshow a zonal distribution. The REE distribution patterns of the nodules are similar to those of the sedimentsand have a mirror image relationship with those of the sea water. Trivalent REE were not obviously differenti-ated when they entered into the nodules from the sea water.A major factor causing the difference of REE abundances between nodules and sediments is the redoxconditions. The redox intensity of the ocean floor of the Pacific is controlled mainly by Antarctic Bottom Wat-er(AABW), The iron-bearing facies in the nodules is the main carrier of REE.  相似文献

Fourteen ferromanganese nodule–sediment pairs from different sedimentary environments such as siliceous ooze (11), calcareous ooze (two) and red clay (one) from Central Indian Ocean Basin (CIOB) were analysed for major, trace and rare earth elements (REE) to understand the possible elemental relationship between them. Nodules from siliceous and calcareous ooze are diagenetic to early diagenetic whereas, nodule from red clay is of hydrogenetic origin. Si, Al and Ba are enriched in the sediments compared to associated nodules; K and Na are almost in the similar range in nodule–sediment pairs and Mn, Fe, Ti, Mg, P, Ni, Cu, Mo, Zn, Co, Pb, Sr, V, Y, Li and REEs are all enriched in nodules compared to associated sediments (siliceous and calcareous). Major portion of Si, Al and K in both nodules and sediments appear to be of terrigenous nature. The elements which are highly enriched in the nodules compared to associated sediments from both siliceous and calcareous ooze are Mo – (307, 273), Ni – (71, 125), Mn – (64, 87), Cu – (43, 80), Co – (23, 75), Pb – (15, 24), Zn – (9, 11) and V – (8, 19) respectively. These high enrichment ratios of elements could be due to effective diagenetic supply of metals from the underlying sediment to the nodule. Enrichment ratios of transition metals and REEs in the nodule to sediment are higher in CIOB compared to Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. Nodule from red clay, exhibit very small enrichment ratio of four with Mn and Ce while, Al, Fe, Ti, Ca, Na, K, Mg, P, Zn, Co, V, Y and REE are all enriched in red clay compared to associated nodule. This is probably due to presence of abundant smectite, fish teeth, micronodules and phillipsite in the red clay. The strong positive correlation (r ? 0.8) of Mn with Ni, Cu, Zn and Mo and a convex pattern of shale-normalized REE pattern with positive Ce-anomaly of siliceous ooze could be due to presence of abundant manganese micronodules. None of the major trace and REE exhibits any type of inter-elemental relationship between nodule and sediment pairs. Therefore, it may not be appropriate to correlate elemental behaviour between these pairs.  相似文献

Tropical cyclones are the most hazardous weather systems, which form over warm ocean waters. The frequencies of tropical cyclones show variabilities over all the oceanic basins, during the El-Niño and El-Niño Modoki years. Recent studies have shown significant impact of air–sea interaction processes like El-Niño and El-Niño Modoki on the cyclone activity over different ocean basins. The results suggest in most cases, El-Niño events suppress the formation of cyclones over various basins. A recent study indicated that concurrent occurrence of El-Niño Modoki and positive Indian Ocean dipole (IOD) events can generate more cyclones over north-west Pacific. We propose to study the impact of El-Niño Modoki events on the formation of tropical cyclones over north Indian Ocean (NIO). Our present study suggests that the cyclogenesis over the NIO is a complex phenomenon, as it is influenced by several coupled ocean atmospheric phenomena such as El-Niño, El-Niño Modki, IOD and Madden–Julian oscillation.  相似文献

In our work,ocean ridge granite,i.e., Oytan plagiogranite massif,was discovered in western Qinghai-Xizang plateau.It intruded into the basic lava of the Oytag ophiolite suite and it was formed a little later than the (ultra)mafic rocks of the Oytag ophiolite suite.The Oytang plagiogranite possesses the geochemical characteristics of mantle-source granite and was formed in the “supre-subduction zone”(SSZ)ocean ridge environment,like the ocean ridge granite of Troodos,Cypus.  相似文献
