As a regular practice,the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences(IAMAS) requests each of its member countries to submit a progress report on the relevant operational and research fields on a four-year basis,and exchange the reports with other members during the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics(IUGG)General Assembly that is held every four years as well.During the last thirty years, Chinese National Committee for IAMAS has regularly submitted its report.This National Report of Chinese National Committee for IAMAS was prepared for the XXIV IUGG General Assembly,Perugia,Italy,July 2-13, 2007 and presented developments in meteorology and atmospheric sciences in China mainly during 2003-2006.

The IAMAS-CNC Early Career Scientists Nobel Prize Online Interpretation Workshop

1.Overview The 2021 Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded to three scientists for their contribution to the physical understanding of complex systems(The Nobel Committee for Physics,2021).Two of the laureates,Dr.Syukuro MANABE and Dr.Klaus HASSELMANN,are climate scientists.This is the first time a climate scientist has won a Nobel Prize for physics and is thus a great encouragement to the entire climate science community,especially young scientists.Because the two winners'groundbreaking contributions that led to their award were achieved decades ago,young people may not be very familiar with these works.Therefore,to help young scientists better understand the scientific merit of the fundamental works and to inspire them in their future research careers,on 20 October 2021,the young scientist working group of The China National Committee of the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences(IAMAS-CNC)organized an online Nobel Prize interpretation workshop.Over 400 participants attended the online workshop,and more than 120000 parti-cipants watched the replay.

Study and Demonstration of Precipitation Enhancement Techniques

The project is the 6th subproject of the National Basic Theoretical Research Project "Research on the Techniques of Water Safety Support," which is chaired by the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences and participated by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (Chinese Academy of Sciences), the Meteorological Bureau of Qinghai Province, and the Meteorological Bureau of Henan Province. Global Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere General Circulation Models in LASG／IAP

Coupled ocean-atmospheric general circulation models are the only tools to quantitatively simulate the climate system. Since the end of the 1980s, a group of scientists in the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG), Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), have been working to develop a global OGCM and a global coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation model (CGCM). From the original flux anomalycoupling model developed in the beginning of the 1990s to the latest directly-coupling model, LASG scientists have developed four global coupled GCMs. This study summarizes the development history of these models and describes the third and fourth coupled GCMs and selected applications. Strengths and weaknesses of these models are highlighted.

The Climate System Model Development and Application Studies （CSMDA for short） is an International Partnership Program for Creative Research Teams that was started in October 2004 and is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS）. The initial objectives are ＂to develop a sustainable climate system model that can represent the interaction of different spheres in the climate system, to provide a cross-cut research platform for atmospheric sciences, oceanography and other related fields, and to offer theoretical support for developing and improving reasonable short-range climate prediction systems＂.
