Now that the Society has returned to Burlington House, normal life can resume, and that includes Saturday opening of the Library.     

RAS Awards 2007

Each year the RAS recognizes outstanding achievement in astronomy and geophysics by the award of medals and prizes. Candidates are nominated by Fellows and the awards made by a committee of Fellows, ensuring that these scientists have earned the respect and admiration of their peers in the research community.

Books bought for the RAS Library 2007

This table lists books purchased for the RAS Library during 2007. Fellows are requested to contact the staff to ensure any item is available before visiting the Library specially to see it. Fellows (including those overseas) are also entitled to request that books be posted to them on loan.

RAS helps to reconnect scientists

Mervyn Freeman, Gareth Chisham, Iain Coleman and Mike Pinnock report on the November discussion meeting "Temporal and spatial structure of magnetic reconnection on the Earth's magnetopause", the only natural environment in which this universal astrophysical phenomenon can be observed locally and globally.     

RAS National Astronomy Meeting 2005

Shortly after Easter, more than 430 registrants gathered at the the University of Birmingham for the Royal Astronomical Society's annual National Astronomy Meeting, held jointly this year with the UK Solar Physics Meeting. Trevor Ponman summarizes the lively discussion and debate at the NAM.     

RAS Associate wins Shaw Prize

Prof. Reinhard Genzel, Associate of the Society since 1994, Darwin Lecturer in 2007, and Director of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics has been awarded the Shaw Prize in Astronomy for 2008.
