I present a model for the formation and evolution of a massive disk galaxy, within a growing dark halo whose mass evolves
according to cosmological simulations of structure formation. The galactic evolution is simulated with a new three-dimensional
chemo-dynamical code, including dark matter, stars and a multi-phase ISM. We follow the evolution from redshift z= 4.85 until the present epoch. The energy release by massive stars and supernovae prevents a rapid collapse of the baryonic
matter and delays the maximum star formation until redshift z ≈ 1. The galaxy forms radially from inside-out and vertically from top-to-bottom. Correspondingly, the inner halo is the
oldest component, followed by the outer halo, the bar/bulge, the thick and the thin disk. The bulge in the model consists
of at least two stellar subpopulations, an early collapse population and a population that formed later in the bar.

Tidal effects of a Schmidt (1965) model galaxy on a typical globular cluster moving in an orbit along the axis of symmetry of the spheroid is studied under the impulsive approximation. Ann-body simulation is made for comparison. Results show that in both cases, a high concentration cluster gains enough energy to be totally dissolved within a distance of 2 kpc. A significant mass loss occurs as the cluster approaches the Roche distance. 相似文献

Tidal disruption is a potentially important process for the accumulation of the planets from planetesimals. The fact that stable equilibria do not exist for circular orbits inside the Roche limit has often been hypothesized to mean that any object that passes within the Roche limit is totally disrupted. We have disproven this hypothesis by solving the dynamic problem of the tidal disruption of a dissipative planetestimal during a close encounter with a protoplanet. The solution consists of a numerical integration of the three-dimensional, nonlinear equations of motion, including an approximate treatment of viscous dissipation in the solid regions of the planetesimal. The numerical methods have been extensively tested on a series of one-, two- (Jeans), and three-(Roche) dimensional test problems involving the equilibrium of a body subjected to tidal forces. The results may be scaled to planetesimals of arbitrary size, providing that the scaled equation of state applied. The calculations show that a strongly dissipative planetesimal which passes by the Earth on a parabolic orbit with a perigee within the Roche limit (≈3REarth) is not tidally disrupted (even for grazing incidence), and loses no more than a few percent of its mass. This result applies to bodies of radius R which have a kinematic viscosity ν ? 1012(R/1000km)2 cm2sec?1. Less dissipative planetesimals (ν ≈ 1013(R/1000 km)2 cm2sec?1) may lose up to about 20% of their mass. There are two coupled reasons why this result differs from previous hypotheses: (1) in a dynamic encounter, there is insufficient time to disrupt the planetesimal, and (2) even in circular orbit, the small velocities in the solid region imply that many orbital periods are necessary to completely disrupt the planetesimal. Hence solid and partially molten planetesimals will not experience substantial tidal disruption; completely molten bodies may be sufficiently inviscid to undergo tidal disruption. 相似文献

The tidal force effects of a spherical galaxy passing head-on through a disk galaxy have been studied at various regions of the disk galaxy and for various orientations of the disk galaxy with respect to the direction of relative motion of the two galaxies. The density distribution of the disk galaxy is taken to be, (r)=ce–4r/R
, where c is the central density andR is the radius of the disk. The density distribution of the spherical galaxy is taken to be that of a oolytrope of indexn=4. It is found that as a result of the collision, through the central parts and the outer parts of the disk galaxy remain intact, the region in between these two regions disrupts. Thus a ring galaxy with a nucleus embedded in the ring-i.e., a ring galaxy of the RN-type, is formed. 相似文献

The hydrodynamics of stellar models in the tidal field of a massive black hole is calculated numerically under certain simplifying assumptions. It is found that solar type stars are totally disrupted only when falling toward a black hole whose mass does not exceed 106–107
M
. Red giants lose their entire envelope for all black hole masses studied. Our findings strengthen the view that tidal disruption is not an important source of gas in AGN's. 相似文献

Assuming a density perturbance in the form of an Archimedes spiral and an exponential decrease of matter density along the z-direction, Poisson's equation governing the perturbed gravitational field is solved with Hankel's integral transform and the method of steepest descent. For shortwave perturbances in the plane z=0, a simple analytical expression is given. In our approximation, the form of the perturbed field is determinate and is also an Archimedes spiral. 相似文献

The formation of a disk galaxy within a slowly growing dark halo is simulated with a new chemo-dynamical model. The model
describes the evolution of the stellar populations, the multi-phase ISM and all important interaction. I find, that the galaxy
forms radially from inside-out and vertically from top-to-bottom. The derived stellar age distributions show that the inner
halo is the oldest component, followed by the outer halo, the triaxial bulge, the halo-disk transition region and the disk.
Despite the still idealized model, the final galaxy resembles present-day disk galaxies in many aspects. In particular, the
stellar metallicity distribution in the halo of the model resembles the one of M31. The bulge in the model shows, at least
two stellar subpopulations, an early collapse population and a population that formed later out of accreted disk mass. In
the stellar metallicity distribution of the disk, I find a pronounced ‘G-dwarf problem’ which is the result of a pre-enrichment
of the disk ISM with metal-rich gas from the bulge.

In a previous paper, we have studied dynamical friction during a parabolic passage of a companion galaxy past a disk galaxy. This paper continues with the study of satellites in circular orbits around the disk galaxy. Simulations of orbit decay in a self gravitating disk are compared with estimates based on two-body scattering theories; the theories are found to give a satisfactory explanation of the orbital changes. The disk friction is strongly dependent on the sense of rotation of the companion relative to the rotation of the disk galaxy as well as on the amount of mass in a spherical halo. The greatest amount of dynamical friction occurs in direct motion if no spherical halo is present. Then the infall time from the edge of the disk is about one half of the orbital period of the disk edge. A halo twice as massive as the disk increases the infall time four fold. The results of Quinn and Goodman, obtained with a non-self-gravitating method, agree well with our experiments with massive halos (Q
0 1.5), but are not usable in a more general case. We give analytic expressions for calculating the disk friction in galaxies of different disk/halo mass ratios. 相似文献

We present the results of the study of the orientation of the accretion disk relative to the host galaxy disk in Seyfert galaxies. We used a sample selected by a mostly isotropic property, the flux at 60 μm, with radio and optical data homogeneously observed and analyzed, to avoid selection effects. We found that the observed i and δ values, galaxy inclination and difference between the position angle of the jet and the galaxy major axis, respectively, are consistent with a random β-distribution, the angle between the jet and the galaxy plane axis. We also found that the previously suggested Zone of Avoidance disappears and was probably due to a selection effect. We suggest several explanations for the misalignment of the accretion disk relative to the galaxy disk. 相似文献

Mass depletion from the nucleus of a disk galaxy and its effect on the outer structure of the galaxy
High-energy explosions in the nuclei of galaxies throw out large amount of gas with sufficiently large velocities. This high-velocity ejections of gas is observed in Seyfert galaxies and in many normal spiral galaxies. The ejected gas flows continuously in the outer region and builds the outer structure of the galaxy. The degree of influence of the outflowing gas on the outer structure depends on the energy released during the explosion and on the damping rate of flow. These two parameters may essentially determine the type of galaxy to be evolved to including the Hubble-type. The physical interpretation of some such observed phenomena has been achieved on the basis of the solution of gas dynamical equations with viscosity. 相似文献

We present results for a galaxy formation model that includes a simple treatment for the disruption of dwarf galaxies by gravitational forces and galaxy encounters within galaxy clusters. This is implemented a posteriori in a semi-analytic model by considering the stability of cluster dark matter subhaloes at z = 0 . We assume that a galaxy whose dark matter substructure has been disrupted will itself disperse, while its stars become part of the population of intracluster stars responsible for the observed intracluster light. Despite the simplicity of this assumption, our results show a substantial improvement over previous models and indicate that the inclusion of galaxy disruption is indeed a necessary ingredient of galaxy formation models. We find that galaxy disruption suppresses the number density of dwarf galaxies by about a factor of 2. This makes the slope of the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function shallower, in agreement with observations. In particular, the abundance of faint, red galaxies is strongly suppressed. As a result, the luminosity function of red galaxies and the distinction between the red and the blue galaxy populations in colour–magnitude relationships are correctly predicted. Finally, we estimate a fraction of intracluster light comparable to that found in clusters of galaxies. 相似文献

We develop a three-dimensional numerical model for an ensemble of molecular clouds moving in the fixed gravitational potential of a galaxy. This scheme is a modification of the widely known model of Oort and includes different processes of coagulation and fragmentation of clouds under pairwise collisions, interaction of clouds with the diffuse interstellar medium, and also feedback: the breaking up of clouds into small fragments under the action of stars arising in them. This model makes it possible to study the influence of various parameters of both the galaxy itself and the ensemble of molecular clouds on the process of large-scale star formation connected with giant molecular clouds and on the temporal changes of the global structure of the interstellar medium. We give as an example a computation of the evolution of the energy characteristics of an ensemble of molecular clouds in a spiral galaxy.Translated fromAstrofizika, Vol. 37, No. 4, 1994. 相似文献

We investigate the regular or chaotic nature of star orbits moving in the meridional plane of an axially symmetric galactic model with a disk and a spherical nucleus. We study the influence of some important parameters of the dynamical system, such as the mass and the scale length of the nucleus, the angular momentum or the energy, by computing in each case the percentage of chaotic orbits, as well as the percentages of orbits of the main regular resonant families. Some heuristic arguments to explain and justify the numerically derived outcomes are also given. Furthermore, we present a new method to find the threshold between chaos and regularity for both Lyapunov Characteristic Numbers and SALI, by using them simultaneously. 相似文献

The collapse of a homogeneous, initially spheroidal halo under self gravitation, has been considered. It is found that a weak magnetic field (as is plausible to belong to such a cloud) has little influence on the collapse, except probably sufficiently close to the centre where the gas density, and consequently the magnetic field, becomes rather high. The equatorial collapse is centrifugally balanced at a certain stage, while collapse in the perpendicular direction continues. A thick stellar disk is formed within a time-scale <3×109 yr. Brisk star formation takes place while the collapse of the gaseous disk is still in progress. This gives rise to the halo stars with low metal content and high Z-motion. A bulge is formed at the centre simultaneously. This is the first phase of formation of a disk galaxy. The thin disk is formed at a later stage as the remaining primordial gas and the gas released by the evolution of stars in the thick disk gradually settles on to it.The presented model is rather a crude one. Many aspects have not been considered, and many details have not been worked out. It is hoped that a more detailed and comprehensive model will be arrived at in the future.Paper presented at the IAU Third Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kyoto, Japan, between 30 September–6 October, 1984. 相似文献

We present our spectroscopic observations of the galaxy NGC 7468 performed at the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope using the UAGS long-slit spectrograph, the MPFS multi-pupil fiber spectrograph, and the IFP scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. We found no significant deviations from the circular rotation of the galactic disk in the velocity field in the regions of brightness excess along the major axis of the galaxy (the putative polar ring). Thus, these features are either tidal structures or weakly developed spiral arms. However, we detected a gaseous disk at the center of the galaxy whose rotation plane is almost perpendicular to the plane of the galactic disk. The central collision of NGC 7468 with a gas-rich dwarf galaxy and their subsequent merging seem to be responsible for the formation of this disk. 相似文献

Acounter-rotating gas disk has been detected in the SA0 galaxy IC 560 located at the periphery of a sparse group of six late-type galaxies. The pattern of gas excitation and mid-infrared colors are indicative of ongoing star formation within 1 kpc of the center. Outside the gas disk with star formation the large-scale stellar disk of the galaxy has an old age and a very low metallicity, [Z/H] ≈ ?1. The source of external gas accretion onto IC 560 is undetected; the only option is a single infall of a companion rich in high-metallicity gas. 相似文献

We use N -body simulations to study the tidal evolution of globular clusters (GCs) in dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies. Our models adopt a cosmologically motivated scenario in which the dSph is approximated by a static Navarro, Frenk & White halo with a triaxial shape. We apply our models to five GCs spanning three orders of magnitude in stellar density and two in mass, chosen to represent the properties exhibited by the five GCs of the Fornax dSph. We show that only the object representing Fornax's least dense GC (F1) can be fully disrupted by Fornax's internal tidal field – the four denser clusters survive even if their orbits decay to the centre of Fornax. For a large set of orbits and projection angles, we examine the spatial and velocity distribution of stellar debris deposited during the complete disruption of an F1-like GC. Our simulations show that such debris appears as shells, isolated clumps and elongated overdensities at low surface brightness (≥26 mag arcsec−2 ), reminiscent of substructure observed in several Milky Way dSphs. Such features arise from the triaxiality of the galaxy potential and do not dissolve in time. The kinematics of the debris depends strongly on the progenitor's orbit. Debris associated with box and resonant orbits does not display stream motions and may appear 'colder'/'hotter' than the dSph's field population if the viewing angle is perpendicular/parallel to the progenitor's orbital plane. In contrast, debris associated with loop orbits shows a rotational velocity that may be detectable out to a few kpc from the galaxy centre. Chemical tagging that can distinguish GC debris from field stars may reveal whether the merger of GCs contributed to the formation of multiple stellar components observed in dSphs. 相似文献
