Field and petrologic studies along the Adirondack Lowlands — Highlands boundary near Harrisville, NY, indicate that heat from the synmetamorphic intrusion of the Diana syenite complex (intrusion temperature of 1,050° C) played a major role in the local metamorphic thermal regime and was responsible for extensive partial melting of adjacent metasedimentary units (Major Paragneiss of Engel and Engel). Metamorphic temperatures inferred from two — feldspar and spinel — quartz assemblages decrease from 850–950° C along the Diana — metasediment contact to 650–700° C, 2–3 km away from the contact. Metamorphic pressures are 7±0.5 kb as determined from coexisting plagioclase — garnet — sillimanite — quartz, kyanite — sillimanite, and garnet — rutile — ilmenite — sillimanite — quartz (GRAIL). In the paragneiss, migmatites consisting of quartz — microcline perthite — sodic plagioclase leucosomes are generally concordant with the melanosome consisting of biotite — sillimanite — garnet — spinel — plagioclase ±corundum±cordierite. Qualitatively the amount of partial melt and occurrences of corundum-bearing assemblages decrease away from the Diana contact. Activity of H2O inferred from coexisting biotite — sillimanite — quartz — garnet — K-feldspar ranges from 0.01 to 0.17 and is five to ten times lower in corundum-bearing rocks.Melting proceeded via vapor-absent reactions involving biotite in response to localized heating by synmetamorphic intrusion of magma. This unusually preserved, synmetamorphic contact aureole in a regional granulite terrane supports the concept that granulites owe their origin to magma intrusion and/or the ponding of magmas at the base of the crust.  相似文献

The Mary Valley manganese deposits exhibit mineralogy and textures characteristic of at least four parageneses. The deposits consist mainly of isolated occurrences of braunite, together with a number of lower and higher valency manganese oxides, and manganese silicates, in bedded radiolarian cherts and jaspers of Permian age. The parageneses are: (a) Braunite — quartz (primary), (b) Braunite — hausmannite — spessartine — tephroite — quartz (metamorphic). (c) Hydrated manganese silicates — barite — braunite — hausmannite (hydrothermal veins), (d) Tetravalent manganese oxides (pyrolusite, cryptomelane, manjiroite, nsutite) (supergene). The primary mineralisation is interpreted as the result of the geochemical separation of Mn from Fe in a submarine exhalative system, and the precipitation of Mn as oxide within bedded radiolarian oozes and submarine lavas. During diagenesis this hydrothermal manganese oxide reacted with silica to produce primary braunite. The later geological of evolution of this volcanogenicsedimentary deposit involved metamorphism, hydrothermal veining by remobilised manganese, and supergene enrichment.  相似文献

The study deals with the theoretical approach to anthropoecological stabilization of landscape (ASL). It describes a method consisting of four stages including detailed differentiation from the viewpoint of aim, objectives of investigation, and means of evaluation and processing. Application of the method requires to provide: the preparatory, analytical ground — I. stage (analytical part), the structural — functional evaluation of the territory under solution — II. stage (analytical-synthetical part), the solution of ecooptimization relations and bonds by way of material and energy flows — III. stage (regulative part), the monitoring and signalling activities, determination of all-system biogeoindications — IV. stage (ensuring part).The results are exemplified by application to model territories in South Bohemia region.  相似文献

After several decades of catchment research, most forest hydrologists agree that deforestation leads to increased annual catchment yields and augment groundwater recharge and dry-season flow. Nevertheless, millions of people in the semi-arid tropics have good reasons — a deep knowledge of the land after using it for many generations — to state the very opposite, ie that deforestation implies dry springs and streams. In this paper a model is presented which attemps to show that both of the above views are correct, but only if the hydrological consequences of deforestation are related to the diversity in land management, hydroclimate and landscape characteristics. The possibility of closing the dichotomy of opinion between people and professionals is discussed.  相似文献

Specific features of development of recreation geography in the USSR are, first of all — combination of the deliberate outstripping theoretical research based on the systems approach with the traditional techniques of field investigation of actual dhenomena, and second — combination of scientific activities with active interference into practical territorial organization of recreation of different groups of population. Development of recreation geography has influenced the other branches of geography, as well as the theory of project-design and architecture. Rapid growth of a new branch of science is considered as an illustration of high integrating potentialities of modern geography, which is now based not only on the empirical studies, but on the theoretical search as well.  相似文献

The recent recognition that long period (i.e., of the order of hours) electromagnetic induction studies could play a major role in the detection of the asthenosphere has led to much interest amongst the geophysical and geological communities of the geomagnetic response functions derived for differing tectonic environments. Experiments carried out on the ocean bottom have met with considerable success in delineating the “electrical asthenosphere”, i.e., a local maximum in electrical conductivity (minimum in electrical resistivity) in the upper mantle.In this paper, observations of the time-varying magnetic field recorded in three regions of Scandinavia, northern Sweden (Kiruna—KIR), northern Finland/northeastern Norway (Kevo—KEV) and southern Finland (Sauvamaki—SAU), are analysed in order to obtain estimates of the inductive response function, C(ω), for each region. The estimated response functions are compared with one from the centre of the East European Platform (EEP), and it is shown that the induced eddy currents, at periods of the order of 103–104 s, in the three regions flow much closer to the surface than under the platform centre. Specifically, at a period of ~3000 s, these currents are flowing at depths of the order of: KEV—120 km; KIR—180 km; SAU—210 km; EEP—280 km; implying that the transition to a conducting zone, of σ -0.2 S/m, occurs at around these depths. One-dimensional inversion of and shows that there must exist a good conducting zone, of σ = 0.1–1.0 S/m, under each of the two regions, of 40 km minimum thickness, at depths of: KEV 105–115 km; KIR 160–185 km. This is to be contrasted with EEP, where the ρ-d profile displays a monotonically decreasing resistivity with depth, reaching σ~0.1 S/m at > 300 km.Finally, a possible temperature range for the asthenosphere, consistent with the deduced conducvitity, is discussed. It is shown that, at present, there is insufficient knowledge of the conditions (water content, melt fraction, etc.) likely to prevail in the asthenosphere to narrow down the probable range of 900°–1500°C.  相似文献

Theory and practice in German social geography reflect back on thirty years of an arduous search for identity as a discipline. Both its friends and its adversaries are in agreement that this identity has yet to be achieved. The development of the foundation phase of the 1950s — late because of specifically German conditions — led to the rapid growth of several distinctive research lines. Thereafter the pace of development slowed as various concepts were abandoned, accompanied by hesitancy over material questions, especially as some were revealed to be impractical by completed research. Up to the present there appear to be thresholds that cannot be crossed even by informed geographers. Since 1980 social geography in Germany has stagnated, and become absorbed in behavioural research. This article has attempted a balance of the more important contributions that have tried to develop themes dealing with the social complex from the geographical viewpoint.Translated by editor  相似文献

The petrochemistry of kimberlites from Yakutia and Lesotho has been studied using a silicate melt model with the SiO2, CO2 and H2O derivatives as the main anions.A model has been developed, according to which the dissolution of H2O in an ultramafic melt results in orthosilicates (H2SiC 4 -2 , H3SiO 4 , H4SiO4 etc.) rather than metasilicates, while the dissolution of CO2 produces additional hydrocarbonate complexes. It suggests that at high PCO 2 1 , and where the orthosilicic calcium salt clusters are likely to be present in the magma, the kimberlite melt can break down into carbonate and silicate liquids. Therefore, the composition of kimberlite magma will be determined by the H2O/CO2 ratio under the relatively constant fluid pressure. This can be seen from the distinct fluidrs trend in the H2O-CO2-SiO2 diagram for the Yakutia and Lesotho diamond-bearing kimberlites. The H2O/CO2 ratio changes with the liquidus temperature along this trend (Perchuk and Vaganov 1977) which suggests that liquid immiscibility predominates over the simple CO2 solubility in the melts of kimberlite composition. The well-known Boyd's diagrams for the equilibrium PT-conditions in peridotites have been applied along with new experimental data to natural Cpx and Opx, and the PT-parameters were correlated for peridotite inclusions in kimberlite pipes in Yakutia and Lesotho. The liquidus temperatures for the extrapolated area of these correlations gave depths (pressures) at which kimberlite magmas are formed (200–250 km).The hypothesis on SiO2 partitioning between the melt and the fluid was used to calculate the composition of dry initial kimberlite which characterised the average mantle composition: SiO2 — 45.12; TiO2 — 2.49; Al2O3 — 3.58; Cr2O3 — 0.12; FeO — 9.32; MnO — 0.16; CoO — 0.11; MgO — 23.47; CaO — 13.44; Na2O — 0.20; K2O — 1.12; P2O5 — 0.69; S — 0.18; sum — 100 wt.%. Hydrometallurgical processing of spent hydrodesulphurisation (HDS) catalyst for the recovery of molybdenum using sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide mixtures was investigated. The results indicated that the recovery of molybdenum was largely dependent on the concentrations of Na2CO3 and H2O2 in the reaction medium, which controls the acidity of the leach liquor and carry over of impurities such as Al, Ni, P, Si and V. Leaching process was exothermic and leaching efficiency of molybdenum decreased with increasing solid to liquid ratio. Large scale leaching of spent catalyst, under optimum conditions: 20% pulp density, 85 g/L Na2CO3, 10 vol.% H2O2 and 1 h reaction, resulted a leaching efficiency of 84% Mo. The obtained leach liquor contained (g/L): Mo — 22.0, Ni — 0.015 and Al — 0.82, P — 1.1, Si — 0.094 and minor quantities of V — 8 mg/L, As and Co — < 1 mg/L. Recovery of Mo from leach solution as MoO3 of 97.30% purity was achieved by ammonium molybdate precipitation method.  相似文献

This paper is an attempt to investigate the role of rural-urban migration in the population integration process and national identity in Sudan. Although migration is considered as an important mechanism in integration, yet its effect cannot be easily detected if urban life fails to challenge the culture and norms of migrants. In this case study the role of migration is limited by the status of the urban and the purely traditional background of migrants. Population integration is a central issue in the Sudan with its high level of pluralism, ethnic and cultural complexity. It is assumed that migration is an essential factor to challenge such complexity. Three garnet-biotite pairs and eleven garnet-cordierite-biotite triplets from the Steinach aureole (Oberpfalz, North-East Bavaria) were analyzed using an electron probe microanalyzer.The regional metamorphic muscovite-biotite schists contain garnets strongly zoned with Mn-Ca-rich centers and Fe-rich edges, the average composition being almandine 67 — spessartine 4 — pyrope 4 — grossular (+andradite) 25.The first contact garnet that is formed in mica schists of the outermost part of the aureole is small, virtually unzoned, and has an average composition of almandine 52 — spessartine 37 — pyrope 8 — grossular (+andradite) 3. With increasing metamorphic grade, there is a consistent trend to form garnets richer in Fe ending up with a composition almandine 84.5 — spessartine 5.5 — pyrope 7.5 — grossular (+andradite) 2.5. This trend is accompanied by a general increase in grain size and modal amount of garnet. Associated cordierites and biotites also become richer in Fe with increasing grade. While the garnets in the highest grade sillimanite hornfelses are poorly zoned, the transitional andalusite-sillimanite hornfelses contain garnets with distinct but variable zonation profiles.These facts can possibly be explained by the time-temperature relationships in the thermal aureole. In a phase diagram such as the Al-Fe-Mg-Mn tetrahedron, the limiting mineral compositions of a four-phase volume or a three-phase triangle are fixed by T and P (the latter remaining effectively constant within a thermal aureole). Thus, in garnet-cordierite-biotite assemblages, garnet zonation should be controlled by temperature variation rather than by a non-equilibrium depletion process. Taking into account the experimental data of Dahl (1968), a zoned garnet from a transitional andalusite-sillimanite hornfels would reflect a temperature increase of about 40° C during its growth. A hypothetical P-X diagram is proposed to show semi-quantitatively the compositional variation of garnet-cordierite pairs with varying pressures (T constant).  相似文献

Based on studies of images obtained from LANDSAT-1 and 2, several seemingly active movement zones have been delineated in a section of the eastern Alps and are being reported in the present paper for the first time. These zones, trending W—E to NW—SE, cut across all earlier Alpine boundaries and contacts and on either side along their length, are marked with drag effects, indicating their post-Alpine neotectonic nature. Their relation with the present-day central European stress field, as determined from fault-plane studies and in-situ stress measurements, has been sought. In conjunction with the evidence from neighbouring areas, a dextral shear tendency of the present-day Mediterranean is indicated. Further, a number of extensive lineaments have been observed in the Alpine section. Statistically, there are three major lineation sets trending N45°, N15°, N345°. They appear to have developed cogenetically as a result of shear and tensile failures due to a stress field with maximum principal stress oriented averagely at N15°. This direction of the maximum principal stress, deduced from the above lineation analysis of the eastern Alps, is in striking conformity with the one believed to have been in existence for the development of the Rhinegraben (N20°). It appears that the Rhinegraben and the Alpide belt have evolved cogenetically and concurrently under the same dominant stress field (P1 = NNNE, P2 = vertical and P3 = EESE) and hence the two geotectonic features are really not antagonistic and mutually incompatible as usually believed on the grounds that one involves tension (taphrogenesis — Rhinegraben) and the other compression (orogenesis — Alpide belt) but are different manifestations of the same stress field. Besides, some additional light has been thrown on the possible controls of development of the Giudicaria Line and cause of predominance of NE—SW trending sinistral faults.  相似文献

In the context of American geography's distinguished record in area studies around the world, East Central Europe stands out as a region that has attracted particular scrutiny over the time-span of activity by the Association of American Geographers. While the work done prior to 1918 was inevitably cast in an imperial framework with some hints of environmental determinism, the subsequent emergence of a new Europe — along with more explicitly humanistic perspectives in a discipline that was continuing to grow rapidly — led to a surge in field activity which was maintained through the communist years despite the formidable restrictions of the early post-war years. While there is a great diversity in the contributions made it is evident that there has been a continuing preoccupation with political power and the region's geopolitical significance evaluated in the context of changing great power relations. Also the big questions of economic and social geography — resources, culture and planning systems — have been examined; while a number of geographers have dedicated significant proportions of their total career activity to in-depth primary research on their chosen specialisms.  相似文献

The area researched is characterized by changes in the weather according to fluctuations in the world pressure belts throughout the year. The temperature climate in this region is typified in winter by changes in the pressure system from cyclonic to anti-cyclonic conditions in spells of about 5 days.When Israel is under the influence of a low pressure system, and the 500 mb surfaces are approximately 250 m lower than average, the temperatures along the vertical cross-sections are 6° – 8° C lower than average on rainy days, then snow may be expected in various sections of the country.This paper investigated the 35 years period from 1938/9 to 1971/2, concentrating on two mountain stations — Jerusalem in the centre of the country and Mt. Kena'an in the north —because of the high snow incidence and its greater regularity than other stations.The conclusions are as follows: The maximum number of days of snow (between 2/3 and 3/4 of the annual total) is noted at all stations during January and February, although there are also years in which there was snow but not during those months. Regional devision of the snowy days indicates that the number increases with altitude, and decreases from north to south.Snowfall in regions which have lower incidence is less stable and given to greater fluctuations. There was no indication of periodity of the number of days of snow per season, nor did it appear that a very snowy year followed a dry one.Investigation of the lenght of the snowy and the number of days of snowfall does not indicate any connection between them, and there may well be a long season with few days of snow, or a short one with relatively many snowy days.Comparison between the shorter period of readings — from 1938/9 till 1971/2 — and the longer one — from 1860/1 till 1971/2 (111 years) — at the Jerusalem station shows the same trends, which reinforce the conclusions presented above.  相似文献

Summary Determination of Permeability in Anisotropic Rock-Masses From Integral SamplesA method is presented which makes it possible to characterize the permeability of a rock mass as an anisotropic magnitude — i. e. to determine its permeability tensor — from a characterization of its fracturing by means of integral samples.For the purpose, a theory is developed by means of which the permeability tensor can be calculated from the attitudes and openings of the fractures and — if infillings are present — also from their coefficient of permeability. All these magnitudes are determined in integral samples, it being assumed that the sampled fractures are continuous and plane, and have the same characteristics as the section of the fractures present in the samples. Possible deviations with respect to this assumption are taken into account by means of correcting factors derived from the results of pressure tests in situ. The permeability tensor of a rock mass at a point can be determined from a single integral sample, provided this is representative of the fracturing.Results of the application of the method are presented, which show it to look very promising.With 16 Figures  相似文献

High-precision temperature logging in deep and superdeep wells has permitted the study of the thermal regime in the granite–gneiss layer of the Earth's crust. The long-term logging works have allowed the classification of temperature anomalies recorded in the crystalline basement. Most anomalies have been supposed to be caused by loosely aggregated, permeable zones. The classification reflects main types of processes at a great depth — such as injection, inflow and upward migration of gas-cut fluid. The results of great practical importance are obtained using our classification: some intervals — where temperature anomalies interpreted as inflow reservoirs were revealed — have produced fluid, and others interpreted as injection reservoirs absorbed borehole fluid during tests.  相似文献

The Zambales ophiolite is the major source of chromite ore in the Philippines. The chromitites are concordant cumulates and are associated with distinct chromitite-bearing sequences within the mantle peridotites. Refractory and metallurgical chromite deposits are spatially separated and related to different lithologic associations, which crystallized from different parental magmas. — Refractory chromite ores (30–44 wt% Cr2O3; 20–30 wt% Al2O3) are linked with the peridotite-troctolite-olivine gabbro lineage. Two main types were found: (1) Al-rich refractory ores associated with harzburgites and feldspathic periodotites and (2) more Cr-rich varieties associated with lherzolites. — Metallurgical chromite ores (45–53 wt% Cr2O3; 12–18 wt% Al2O3) are linked with the peridotite-pyroxenite-norite lineage. Two main types were also found: (1) Cr-rich metallurgical ores associated with orthopyroxenites and (2) more Al-rich varieties related to clinopyroxenites. — The chemical composition of chromite within the deposits varies depending on the chromite/silicate ratios of the ore types and grades continuously into accessory chrome spinels in the wall-rock peridotites. — The geochemistry of accessory chrome spinels in various peridotites and mafic cumulates depends on the mineralogical composition and the stratigraphic position of their host rocks.New address: BEB Erdgas und Erdöl GmbH, Riethorst 12, D-3000 Hannover 51The terms chrome-spinels and chromite are used as follows: 1. The occurrence of shock metamorphic features substantiates an impact origin for the 1.85 Ga old Sudbury Structure, but this has not been universally accepted. Recent improvements in knowledge of large-scale impact processes, combined with new petrographic, geochemical, geophysical (LITHOPROBE) and structural data, allow the Sudbury Structure to be interpreted as a multi-ring impact structure. The structure consists of the following lithologies: Sudbury Breccia —dike breccias occurring up to 80 km from the Sudbury Igneous Complex (SIC); Footwall rocks and Footwall Breccia — brecciated, shocked crater floor materials, in part thermally metamorphosed by the overlying SIC; Sublayer and Offset Dikes, Main Mass of the SIC and Basal Member of the Onaping Formation (OF) — geochemically heterogeneous coherent impact melt complex ranging from inclusion-rich basal unit through a dominantly inclusion-free to a capping inclusion-rich impact melt rock; Grey Member of OF — melt-rich impact breccia (suevite); Green Member of OF — thin layer of fall back ejecta; Black Member of OF — reworked and redeposited breccia material; Onwatin and Chelmsford Formations — post-impact sediments. Observational and analytical data support an integrated step-by-step impact model for the genesis of these units. Analysis of the present spatial distribution of various impact-related lithologies and shock metamorphic effects result in an estimated original rim-to-rim diameter of the final crater of 200 or even 280 km for the Sudbury Structure, prior to tectonic thrusting and deformation during the Penokean orogeny.  相似文献
