Ortho- and para-amphibolites occur throughout the Dharwar schists, gneisses and ultramafics in Karnataka State, India. From the chemical data alone, these ortho- and para-amphibolites cannot be very clearly differentiated. While the ortho-amphibolites follow the Karroo trend, the para-amphibolites appear to have been evolved from the metamorphism of low-Si and -K graywackes. The amphibolitic xenoliths occurring in Peninsular gneisses follow both the igneous and graywacke field, indicating that probably both para and ortho types constitute these enclaves. Their trace element concentrations, like those of Ni, Co and Cr, are not related to the Mg and Fe contents of the amphibolites. Probably these amphibolites have been derived from basic rocks, which were predominant over the Archaean crust, either directly or after having gone through a sedimentary cycle. The higher concentration of Ni, Co, Cr and other elements, such as Mg, in these amphibolites, as compared with younger oceanic basalts, thus indicates the higher concentration of these elements in Archaean basalts and the proto-mantle.  相似文献

Late-Proterozoic volcanic graywackes from the NW Hoggar (Algeria) have been investigated from geological and petrological points of view. Thirty-five samples have been analysed for major elements and the following trace elements: Li, Rb, Sr, Ba, Ni, Co, Cr, V, Zn, Cu.These graywackes constitutes a thick flysch-like formation deposited in a marine environment. They are composed of volcanic (mainly andesites) and plutonic detritus. The chemical analyses confirm this observation and demonstrate the very immature character of these rocks.The composition of the NW Hoggar graywackes differs chemically from other investigated graywackes in that they have a higher Ca, Na content and lower SiO2, Ni content.Several geological observations suggest that the average Hoggar graywacke composition approaches the composition of the W Hoggar Late Precambrian upper crust. The graywackes were formed as a result of erosion of penecontemporaneous calc-alkali volcanic suite, emplaced after widespread mafic intrusions in the Upper Proterozoic shelf deposits.  相似文献

This study combines geochemical and geochronological data in order to decipher the provenance of Carboniferous turbidites from the South Portuguese Zone (SW Iberia). Major and trace elements of 25 samples of graywackes and mudstones from the Mértola (Visean), Mira (Serpukhovian), and Brejeira (Moscovian) Formations were analyzed, and 363 U-Pb ages were obtained on detrital zircons from five samples of graywackes from the Mira and Brejeira Formations using LA-ICPMS. The results indicate that turbiditic sedimentation during the Carboniferous was marked by variability in the sources, involving the denudation of different crustal blocks and a break in synorogenic volcanism. The Visean is characterized by the accumulation of immature turbidites (Mértola Formation and the base of the Mira Formation) inherited from a terrane with intermediate to mafic source rocks. These source rocks were probably formed in relation to Devonian magmatic arcs poorly influenced by sedimentary recycling, as indicated by the almost total absence of pre-Devonian zircons typical of the Gondwana and/or Laurussia basements. The presence of Carboniferous grains in Visean turbidites indicates that volcanism was active at this time. Later, Serpukhovian to Moscovian turbiditic sedimentation (Mira and Brejeira Formations) included sedimentary detritus derived from felsic mature source rocks situated far from active magmatism. The abundance of Precambrian and Paleozoic zircons reveals strong recycling of the Gondwana and/or Laurussia basements. A peri-Gondwanan provenance is indicated by zircon populations with Neoproterozoic (Cadomian-Avalonian and Pan-African zircon-forming events), Paleoproterozoic, and Archean ages. The presence of late Ordovician and Silurian detrital zircons in Brejeira turbidites, which have no correspondence in the Gondwana basement of SW Iberia, indicates Laurussia as their most probable source.  相似文献

东昆仑地区出露的赛什腾组为一套边缘前陆盆地沉积,是原特提斯洋在东昆仑地区俯冲消减到碰撞闭合的沉积记录。对赛什腾组的地球化学特征进行分析和研究,有助于深入理解物源区的类型和性质。本次对赛什腾组的沉积序列进行了详细研究,对典型样品进行了主量、微量及稀土元素地球化学分析和研究。研究结果显示,赛什腾组的变质碎屑岩原岩主要为杂砂岩,少量的岩屑砂岩和长石砂岩;其物源区大地构造背景主要为活动大陆边缘及大陆岛弧。赛什腾组主要来自陆源碎屑岩或中酸性岩浆岩等长英质物质来源区,并且在沉积过程中有白沙河岩组、小庙岩群、万宝沟群等古老沉积组分的加入。此外,原特提斯洋演化过程中形成的岛弧花岗岩,也为赛什腾组提供物质来源。  相似文献

The geochemical composition of Cretaceous terrigenous rocks of the West Sakhalin terrane is analyzed and their paleogeodynamic interpretation is suggested. It is revealed that the rocks are characterized by the low maturity of clastic material. They contain fragments of both volcanomictic and sialic material and in composition correspond to graywackes, being petrogenic or “first cycle” rocks. The geochemical data were generalized and interpreted on the basis of their comparison with compositions of the present-day and ancient rocks formed in known geodynamic settings. The obtained results indicate that terrigenous rocks of the terrane were formed in a pull-apart basin at an active continental margin. The source area, which supplied clastic material in this sedimentation basin during the Berriasian–Danian, included a sialic land made up of granite-metamorphic and sedimentary rocks and the mature (deeply dissected) ensialic Moneron–Samarga island arc, which was accreted to the continental margin at the moment of basin initiation. Sediments were accumulated in general along the continent–ocean boundary against the background of large-scale sinistral transform strike-slip movements of the Izanagi Plate relative to the Eurasian continent.  相似文献

Chemical and isotopic compositions of Proterozoic metaterrigenous rocks of the Kan Block (Central and Idar terranes) of the Eastern Sayan are studied. The results of the reconstruction of their provenances and sedimentation conditions are presented. The rocks under investigation correspond by their petrogeochemical composition to graywackes of island arcs. The combination of geochemical and isotope data shows that sediments of the Central terrane had a local provenance represented by Early Proterozoic subduction magmatic complexes, whereas sediments of the Idar terrane formed probably as the result of mixing of terrigenous material related to the destruction of rocks of Meso-Neoproterozoic oceanic and more ancient continental crust.  相似文献

Sr and An values have been determined for fresh, unclouded plagioclasefeldspars from thirty-two gabbros and metagabbros in two consanguineousbasic layered igneous masses at Dudub, Somalia. It is concludedthat uralitization or amphibolitization has had little effecton the original Sr and An contents of the plagioclases whichcrystallized initially from the Dudub magma. Sr values for freshplagioclases from twenty-eight amphibolites and seven pyroxenegranulites outside the Dudub masses are almost invariably belowthe range of 1,000 to 1,450 p.p.m. Sr characteristic of plagioclasesfrom the gabbros and metagabbros, and it is concluded that thecountry rocks are unconnected genetically with the gabbros andmetagabbros. The intrusive boundaries of the Dudub masses canbe delineated on the basis of the Sr content in the plagioclases,alone. The Sr-An relationships in the country-rock amphibolitesand pyroxene-granulites are so hapazard that it is concludedthat they cannot have been produced, in the main, from a basicigneous rock series. In particular, the country-rock amphibolitesas a group are para-amphibolites. Sr and An data for plagioclasesfrom xenoliths, vein rocks and basic dike rocks are also discussed.  相似文献

Rocks of the Serra do Caparaó region, on the border between the Brazilian states of Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais, comprise granulitic (charnockitic) sequences that have undergone Brasiliano-aged metamorphism (586 ± 2 Ma.). Thermobarometric results document pressures between 8.1 kb and 10.6 kb and temperatures up to 700 ± 50°C. Chemical analysis show a calc-alkaline (CAC) trend with granodioritic, tonalitic-trondhjemitic chemistry. K2O/Rb data represent low- to mid-pressure charnockites corresponding to the undepleted granulite types. Discriminant analyses and diagrams indicate a source rock characteristic of sedimentary origin. REE patterns show slight to moderate fractionation and also slight negative as well as positive Eu anomalies. REE trends and the total amounts of REE of the acidic to basic rock series are similar to those of North American and Australian post-Archaean shales. The granulite facies rock series in the Serro do Caparaó region are interpreted as having originated from supracrustal rock series—i.e., graywackes, which represent sedimentary sequences derived from a Lower Proterozoic bimodal magmatic suite.  相似文献

冲绳海槽是一个处于弧后扩张作用早期的年轻的弧后盆地,是研究弧后扩张作用早期盆地演化和壳幔过程的天然实验室.随着调查研究工作的逐步展开和深入,也发现了一些新的、重要的、亟待解决的科学问题,而火山岩岩石系列归属的厘定又是其他研究工作的基础.在系统收集和整理迄今已有冲绳海槽火山岩资料的基础上,结合近期分析测试数据, 对冲绳海槽火山岩的岩石系列归属进行了重新厘定,探讨了火山岩的构造环境指示意义和浮岩与玄武岩之间的成因联系.研究结果表明:冲绳海槽火山岩分布具有以基性玄武岩和酸性(流纹)英安岩为主的双峰式特征,中性火山岩稀少,基性的玄武岩属于亚碱性系列的橄榄拉斑玄武岩,酸性浮岩可归属为亚碱性岩系的流纹英安岩或流纹岩;在构造环境判别上,冲绳海槽玄武岩表现出大洋中脊和岛弧构造环境的特点,既有别于大洋中脊扩张中心,也有别于成熟型弧后盆地,呈现出弧后早期扩张阶段盆地独特的构造环境特征;广泛分布于冲绳海槽的酸性浮岩表现出一定的岛弧环境的特点;酸性浮岩与玄武岩具有同源性,酸性岩是基性的玄武质岩浆经不同程度结晶分异和同化混染作用的产物.   相似文献

Six graywackes from the Archean greenstone belt in the Wind River of Wyoming and 11 graywackes and three shales from the Archean Fig Tree Group, South Africa, were analyzed for the rare earth elements (REE). There are real deviations beyond analytical uncertainty among sediments from the same formation. The absolute abundance of the REE (∑REE) is somewhat lower than that of the North American shale composite (NASC) which is representative of younger sedimentary rocks. Still, the results confirm previous suggestions that the RE pattern in Precambrian sediments is the same as the NASC but that, relative to the heavy REE, graywackes are slightly enriched in the light REE, shales are depleted, and there is a slight enrichment in Eu relative to the NASC. The average abundance of Eu relative to the other REE for all the Precambrian sediments is the same as that in chondritic meteorites. Attesting to the complexity of graywacke genesis, there is no correlation between the variations in the REE parameters and the variations in major or minor element concentrations. In particular, there is no obvious correlation between the excess Eu and Sr abundance. The total amount of REE, the LaYb ratio, and the Eu enrichment factor, however, all increase in the graywackes with the amount granite-gneiss detritus in the rocks. In general, the REE distributions in Archean graywackes and shales appear to be related to the relative amounts of clastic feldspar, mica, and minor phases which concentrate the REE.  相似文献

The graywackes of Paleozoic turbidite sequences of eastern Australia show a large variation in their trace element characteristics, which reflect distinct provenance types and tectonic settings for various suites. The tectonic settings recognised are oceanic island arc, continental island arc, active continental margin, and passive margins. Immobile trace elements, e.g. La, Ce, Nd, Th, Zr, Nb, Y, Sc and Co are very useful in tectonic setting discrimination. In general, there is a systematic increase in light rare earth elements (La, Ce, Nd), Th, Nb and the Ba/Sr, Rb/Sr, La/Y and Ni/Co ratios and a decrease in V, Sc and the Ba/Rb, K/Th and K/U ratios in graywackes from oceanic island arc to continental island arc to active continental margin to passive margin settings. On the basis of graywacke geochemistry, the optimum discrimination of the tectonic settings of sedimentary basins is achieved by La-Th, La-Th-Sc, Ti/Zr-La/Sc, La/Y-Sc/Cr, Th-Sc-Zr/10 and Th-Co-Zr/10 plots. The analysed oceanic island arc graywackes are characterised by extremely low abundances of La, Th, U, Zr, Nb; low Th/U and high La/Sc, La/Th, Ti/Zr, Zr/Th ratios. The studied graywackes of the continental island arc type setting are characterised by increased abundances of La, Th, U, Zr and Nb, and can be identified by the La-Th-Sc and La/Sc versus Ti/Zr plots. Active continental margin and passive margin graywackes are discriminated by the Th-Sc-Zr/10 and Th-Co-Zr/10 plots and associated parameters (e.g. Th/Zr, Th/Sc). The most important characteristic of the analysed passive margin type graywackes is the increased abundance of Zr, high Zr/Th and lower Ba, Rb, Sr and Ti/Zr ratio compared to the active continental margin graywackes.  相似文献

Gough Island: Evaluation of a fractional crystallization model   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Gough Island is composed of an alkaline olivine basalt-trachyte series. A fractional crystallization model for the development of these rocks has been evaluated by correlating the geochemical trends of major and trace elements. Beginning with an alkali olivine basalt parent the major element abundances were used to determine the varying proportions of crystallizing minerals required to generate the various residual liquids. A least-squares computer model was used for this calculation. The modal proportions of cumulative minerals and trace element distribution coefficients were used to predict the trace element abundances in each rock type.Three significant trace element trends are observed in Gough Island rocks: (1) increasing rare earth (RE) abundance and relative light RE enrichment with increasing major element differentiation, (2) marked Eu, Sr, and Ba depletions in late stage trachytes, (3) Cr and M enrichment in picrite basalt.The trace element abundances predicted by the fractional crystallization model are in good agreement with these observed trends. A fractional crystallization process involving olivine, pyroxene, feldspar, and apatite accounts for all the significant major and trace element trends observed in Gough Island rocks.  相似文献

In order to obtain new sedimentological data for a better understanding of the palaeo geological assembly of the various sedimentary and tectonic complexes of the Northern Apennines, the authors have re-examined and re-analysed the petrography of the main Tertiary graywacke and sandstone sequences of this mountain range. Several hundred thin sections and heavy-mineral preparations have been studied qualitatively and quantitatively. Generally, for all investigated graywackes and sandstones a source area with a more or less uniform petrographic organization can be assumed, since all different components, though in variable distributions, occur in all the studied sequences. Differences in the abundance of the components in the individual graywackes and sandstones are attributable to influences of the source area itself. The distribution of quartz-poor or quartz-free volcanic rocks, quartz—epidote—zoisite schists, and carbonatic cement in the samples and epidote and zoisite in the heavy-mineral preparations indicate, however, a certain palaeogeological succession of the original areas of deposition from the internal to the external parts of the mountain range.  相似文献

Core samples from the “Praezechstein” formation of the bore “Dransfeld 1” were investigated by optical, X-ray, and chemical methods. The rock formation consists of graywackes interbedded with Slates. The graywackes contain mineral.components and rock fragments which are also common in the graywackes of Harz and “Rheinisches Schiefergebirge”, so that a common source of derivation may be concluded, namely the “Mitteldeutsche Schwelle”. The distinctive features of the Dransfeld-graywackes however as compared to those of Harz and “Rheinisches Schiefergebirge” are:

Cenozoic basaltic volcanism in southeastern China was related to the lithospheric extension and asthenospheric upwelling at the eastern Eurasian continental margin. The cenozoic basaltic rocks from this region can be grouped into three different series: tholeiitic basalts, alkali basalts, and picritic-nephelinitic basalts. Each basalt series has distinctive geochemical features and is not derived from a common source rock by different degrees of partial melting or from a common parental magma by fractional crystallization. The mineralogy, petrography, and major and trace-element geochemistry of the tholeiites are similar to oceanic island basalts, implying that the mantle source for these Chinese continental tholeiites was similar to that of the oceanic island basalts—an asthenospheric mantle. The alkali basalts and picritic-nephelinitic basalts are enriched in incompatible trace elements, and their geochemical features can be interpreted as a result of partial melting of an enriched lithospheric mantle, or the mixing products of an asthenospheric magma with a component derived from an enriched lithospheric mantle through thermal erosion at the base of the lithosphere. But the lack of a transitional rock type and continuous variational trends among these basalts suggests that the mixing between asthenospheric magmas and lithospheric magmas probably was not significant in the petrogenesis of the basalts from SE China. Low-degree partial melting of enriched lithospheric mantle alone can account for the observed geochemical data from these basalts.  相似文献

The southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) is characterized by multiple and linear accretionary orogenic collages, including Paleozoic arcs, ophiolites, and accretionay wedges. A complex history of subduction–accretion processes makes it difficult to distinguish the origin of these various terranes and reconstruct the tectonic evolution of the southern CAOB. In order to provide constraints on the accretionary history, we analyzed major and trace element compositions of Paleozoic graywackes from the Huangcaopo Group (HG) and Kubusu Group (KG) in East Junggar. The HG graywackes have relatively low Chemical Index of Alteration (CIA) values (50 to 66), suggesting a source that underwent relatively weak chemical weathering. The identical average Index of Compositional Variability (ICV) values (~ 1.1) for both the KG and HG samples point to an immature source for the Paleozoic graywackes in East Junggar, which is consistent with an andesitic–felsic igneous source characterized by low La/Th ratios and relatively high Hf contents. These graywackes are geochemically similar to continental island arc sediments and therefore were probably deposited at an active continental margin. U–Pb dating of detrital zircons from the lower subgroup of the HG yielded a young age peak at ~ 440 Ma, indicating a post-Early Silurian depositional age. However, the youngest populations of detrital zircons from the KG graywackes and the upper subgroup of the HG yielded 206Pb/238U ages of ~ 346 Ma and ~ 355 Ma, respectively, which suggest a post-Early Carboniferous depositional age. Because of similarities of rock assemblages, these two units should be incorporated into the Early Carboniferous Nanmingshui Formation. The detrital zircon age spectrum of the Early Paleozoic HG graywackes resembles that of the Habahe sediments in the Chinese Altai, which suggests that the ocean between East Junggar and the Chinese Altai was closed before the deposition of the sediments and that the Armantai ophiolite was emplaced prior to the Early Devonian. The differences in age spectra for detrital zircons from the post-Early Carboniferous graywackes in East Junggar and the Harlik arc indicate that the emplacement of the Kalamaili ophiolite postdates the Early Carboniferous. Therefore, a long-lasting northward subduction–accretion process is suggested for the formation of East Junggar and the reconstruction of the Early Paleozoic evolution of the southern CAOB.  相似文献

By means of facial, stratigraphic, petrographic, geochemical and geochronological studies we characterize the Garamilla Formation, cropping out in the western Nordpatagonian Massif.The studies of these volcanic rocks reveal an Early Jurassic volcanic episode formed by three volcanic units that change from normal calc-alkaline to high-K calc-alkaline series. Other geochemical features reveal a progressive change from an initial subduction-related volcanism to one intraplate-related volcanism.This volcanic episode is temporally and geochemically equivalent to those volcanic units located in half-grabens in several areas of the Neuquén Basin.The volcanic units were erupted into different structural designs. A portion of its depocenter was interpreted as a transtensional half-graben, whereas the other exhibits a trapdoor structure. The lineament trends that bound the volcanic system were also recognized in western Nordpatagonian Massif, and were assigned to the Gondwanide Orogeny.  相似文献
