The present paper is devoted to the construction of a catalog of isolated galaxy pairs extracted from the HyperLEDA extragalactic database. The radial velocities of the galaxies in the pairs are in the range [3000, 16000] km s?1. In order to get an unbiased pair catalog as complete as possible, we have limited the absolute magnitude of the galaxies to M ≤ ?18.5. The criteria used to define the isolated galaxy pairs are the following: 1) velocity criterion: radial velocity difference between the pair members ΔV < 500 kms?1; 2) interdistance criterion: projected distance between the members rp < 1 Mpc; 3) reciprocity criterion: each member is the closest galaxy to the other one, which excludes multiplets; 4) isolation criterion: we define a pair as isolated if the ratio ρ = r3/rp of the projected distance of the pair to its closest galaxy (this one having a velocity difference lower than 500 km s?1 with respect to the pair) and the members projected interdistance rp is larger than 2.5.We have searched for these closest galaxies first in HyperLEDA M-limited source catalog, then in the full one.We have managed not to suppress the small number of pairs having close-by but faint dwarf galaxy companions. The galaxy pair catalog lists the value of ρ for each isolated pair. This method allows the user of the catalog to select any isolation level (beyond the chosen limit ρ > 2.5). Our final catalog contains 13 114 galaxy pairs, of which 57% are fairly isolated withρ > 5, and 30% are highly isolated with ρ ≥ 10.  相似文献

We used the Revised Flat Galaxy Catalog (RFGC) to select 817 ultra-flat (UF) edge-on disk galaxies with blue and red apparent axial ratios of (a/b)B > 10.0 and (a/b)R > 8.5. The sample covering the whole sky, except the Milky Way zone, contains 490 UF galaxies with measured radial velocities. Our inspection of the neighboring galaxies around them revealed only 30 companions with radial velocity difference of | ΔV |< 500 kms?1 inside the projected separation of Rp < 250 kpc. Wherein, the wider area around the UF galaxy within Rp < 750 kpc contains no other neighbors brighter than the UF galaxy itself in the same velocity span. The resulting sample galaxies mostly belong to the morphological types Sc, Scd, Sd. They have a moderate rotation velocity curve amplitude of about 120 km s?1 and a moderate K-band luminosity of about 1010L. The median difference of radial velocities of their companions is 87 km s?1, yielding the median orbital mass estimate of about 5 × 1011M. Excluding six probable non-isolated pairs, we obtained a typical halo-mass-to-stellar-mass of UF galaxies of about 30, what is almost the same one as in the principal spiral galaxies, like M31 and M81 in the nearest groups. We also note that ultra-flat galaxies look two times less “dusty” than other spirals of the same luminosity.  相似文献

Based on archival Hubble Space Telescope images, we have performed stellar photometry for the galaxy M 101 and other neighboring galaxies located at a small angular distance from M 101 and having radial velocities similar to that of M 101: M 51, M 63, NGC 5474, NGC 5477, UGC 9405, Ho IV, KUG1413+573, and others. Based on the TRGB method, we have determined the distances to these galaxies. We have found that the M 101 group lies at a distance of 6.8 Mpc and is a small compact galaxy group consisting of four galaxies: NGC 5474, NGC 5477, UGC 9405, and Ho IV. The bright massive galaxies M 51 and M 63 are considerably farther (D = 9.0 and 9.3 Mpc, respectively) than the M 101 group and do not belong to it. Applying the virial theorem to 27 objects (H II regions and galaxies),M 101 satellites located at different distances from the galaxy, has revealed an increase in the dynamical mass of M 101 with increasing sizes of the system of satellites used in calculating the mass. The maximum calculated mass of M 101 is 7.5 × 1011 M . The dynamical mass of M 101 calculated on the basis of the four galaxies constituting the group is 6.2 × 1011 M . The mass-to-light ratio for this mass is M/L = 18 (at the adopted luminosity of M 101, M B = ?20.8).  相似文献

We report the results of a statistical analysis of the space distribution of galaxies of the 2MRS catalog, which contains redshifts of 43533 galaxies of the 2MASS all-sky IR survey. Because of the unique features of the 2MRS survey, such as its 90% sky coverage, galaxy selection in the IR, the complete incorporation of the old stellar population of galaxies, weakness of the dust extinction effects, and the smallness of the k- and e-corrections allowed us to determine the statistical properties of the global distribution of galaxies in the Local Universe. We took into account the main methodological factors that distort the theoretically expected relations compared to those actually observed. We construct the radial galaxy number counts N(R), SL(R, r) statistics, and the complete correlation function (conditional density) Γ(r) for volume-limited (VL) galaxy samples. The observed conditional density Γ(r) in the redshift space is independent of the luminosity of galaxies and has the form of a power-law function with exponent γ ≈ 1.0 over a large range scale-length spanning from 0.1 to 100 Mpc. We compare the statistical properties of the space distribution of galaxies of the 2MRS catalog with the corresponding properties of simulated catalogs: stochastic fractal distributions and galaxies of the Millennium catalog.  相似文献

We report a catalog of 168 galaxy triplets with line-of-sight velocities V LG < 3500 km/s identified using a percolation criterion, which takes individual properties of galaxies into account. The catalog contains the line-of-sight velocities, K-band magnitudes, and morphological types of galaxies. Our sample of galaxy triplets is characterized by the median values of the line-of-sight velocity dispersion, projected harmonic radius, and crossing time of 40 km/s, 155 kpc, and 3 Gyr, respectively. The median projectedmass and K-band luminosity of our triplets are equal to 5 × 1011 M and 15M /L , respectively, with the uncertainty of these parameters due mostly to the errors of radial-velocity measurements. The basic properties of triple systems in the Local Supercluster are compared to those of more distant isolated triplets from the KTG and KTS samples. The fraction of triplet members among all galaxies is found be more than 5%.  相似文献

We examine the star formation properties of galaxies with very thin disks selected from the Revised FlatGalaxy Catalog (RFGC). The sample contains 333 ultra-flat galaxies (UFG) at high Galactic latitudes, |b| > 10?, with a blue major angular diameter of a ≥ 1.'2, blue and red apparent axial ratios of (a/b)b > 10, (a/b)r > 8.5 and radial velocities within 10 000 kms?1. As a control sample for them we use a population of 722 more thick RFGC galaxies with (a/b)b > 7, situated in the same volume. The UFG distribution over the sky indicates them as a population of quite isolated galaxies. We found that the specific star formation rate, sSFR FUV, determined via the FUV GALEX flux, increases steadily from the early type to late type disks for both the UFG and RFGC–UFG samples, showing no significant mutual difference within each morphological type T. The population of UFG disks has the average HI-mass-to-stellarmass ratio by (0.25 ± 0.03) dex higher than that of RFGC–UFG galaxies. Being compared with arbitrary orientated disks of the same type, the ultra-flat edge-on galaxies reveal that their total HI mass is hidden by self-absorption on the average by approximately 0.20 dex.We demonstrate that using the robust stellar mass estimate via 〈B?K〉-color and galaxy type T for the thin disks, together with a nowaday accounting for internal extinction, yields their sSFR quantities definitely lying below the limit of ?9.4 dex (yr?1). The collected observational data on UFG disks imply that their average star formation rate in the past has been approximately three times the current SFR. The UFG galaxies have also sufficient amount of gas to support their observed SFR over the following nearly 9 Gyrs.  相似文献

We analyze the structure of the cluster of galaxies Abell 1775 (α = 13 h 42 m , δ = +26°22′, cz ≈ 21000 km/s), which exhibits a bimodal distribution of radial velocities of the containing galaxies. The difference of the subcluster radial velocities is ΔV ≈ 2900 km/s. We use the results of our photometric observations made with the 1-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the spectroscopic and photometric data from the SDSS DR6 catalog to determine independent distances to the subclusters via three different methods: the Kormendy relation, photometric plane, and fundamental plane. We find that the A1775 cluster consists of two independent clusters, A1775A (cz = 19664 km/s) and A1775B (cz = 22576 km/s), each located at its own Hubble distance and having small peculiar velocities. Given the velocity dispersions of 324 km/s and 581 km/s and the dynamic masses within the R 200 radius equal to 0.6 × 1014 and 3.3 × 1014 M , the A1775A and A1775B clusters have the K-band luminosity-to-mass ratios of 29 and 61, respectively. A radio galaxy with an extended tail belongs to the A1775B cluster.  相似文献

We have estimated the dark matter content in galaxy pairs and triplets selected from SDSS DR5 by a higher-order Voronoi tesseleration method. Specifically, the median mass-to-light ratios M vir/L are 12 M /L for isolated pairs, 44 M /L for isolated triplets, and 7 (8) M /L for compact pairs (triplets) with a characteristic distance between the galaxies of R < 50 (100) kpc. We show that the less isolated a system, the larger its mass-to-light ratio. This suggests that galaxy groups in a denser environment have a higher velocity dispersion.  相似文献

We used the Revised Flat Galaxy Catalog (RFGC) to create a sample of ultra-flat galaxies (UFG) covering the whole northern and southern sky apart from theMilkyWay zone. It contains 817 spiral galaxies seen edge-on, selected into theUFG sample according to their apparent axial ratios (a/b)B ≥ 10.0 and (a/b)R ≥ 8.53 in the blue and red bands, respectively. Within this basic sample we fixed an exemplary sample of 441 UFG galaxies having the radial velocities of VLG < 10000 km s?1, Galactic latitude of | b |> 10° and the blue angular diameter of aB > 1.′0. According to the Schmidt test the exemplary sample of 441 galaxies is characterized by about (80–90)% completeness, what is quite enough to study different properties of the ultra-flat galaxies. We found that more than 3/4 of UFGs have the morphological types within the narrow range of T = 7± 1, i.e. the thinnest stellar disks occur among the Scd, Sd, and Sdm types. The average surface brightness of UFG galaxies tends to diminish towards the flattest bulge-less galaxies. Regularly shaped disks without signs of asymmetrymake up about 2/3 both among all the RFGC galaxies, and the UFG sample objects. About 60% of ultra-flat galaxies can be referred to dynamically isolated objects, while 30% of them probably belong to the scattered associations (filaments, walls), and only about 10% of them are dynamically dominating galaxies with respect to their neighbours.  相似文献

We consider a sample of 412 galaxies with radial velocities V LG < 2500 kms?1 situated in the sky region of RA = 13. m 0–19. m 0, Dec = +10?...+40? between the Local Void and the Supergalactic plane. One hundred and eighty-one of them have individual distance estimates. Peculiar velocities of the galaxies as a function of Supergalactic latitude SGB show signs of Virgocentric infall at SGB < 10? and motion from the Local Void at SGB > 60?. A half of the Hercules–Bootes galaxies belong to 17 groups and 29 pairs, with the richest group around NGC5353. A typical group is characterized by the velocity dispersion of 67 km s?1, the harmonic radius of 182 kpc, the stellar mass of 4.3 × 1010 M and the virialto- stellar mass ratio of 32. The binary galaxies have the mean radial velocity difference of 37 kms?1, the projected separation of 96 kpc, the mean integral stellar mass of 2.6×109M and the mean virial-to-stellar mass ratio of about 8. The total dark-matter-to-stellar mass ratio in the considered sky region amounts to 37 being almost the same as that in the Local Volume.  相似文献

We use a new expanded and partially modified sample of 1501 thin edge-on spiral galaxies from the RFGC catalog to analyze the non-Hubble bulk motions of galaxies on the basis of a generalized multiparameter Tully-Fisher relation. The results obtained have confirmed and refined our previous conclusions (Parnovsky et al. 2001), in particular, the statistical significance of the quadrupole and octupole components of the galaxy bulk velocity field. The quadrupole component, which is probably produced by tidal forces from overdense regions, leads to a difference in the recession velocities of galaxies on scales of 8000–10000 km s?1 up to 6% of their Hubble velocity. On Local Supercluster scales (3000 km s?1), its contribution increases to about 20%. Including the octupole components in the model causes the dipole component to decrease to the 1σ level. In contrast, in the dipole model, the galaxy bulk velocity relative to the frame of reference of the cosmic microwave background is 310±75 km s?1 toward the apex with l=311° and b=12°. We also consider a sample of 1493 galaxies that was drawn using a more stringent galaxy selection criterion. The difference between the results of our data analysis for this sample and for the sample of 1501 galaxies is primarily attributable to a decrease in the dipole velocity component (290±75 km s?1 toward the apex with l=310° and b=12°) and a decrease in σ by about 2%.  相似文献

We report the results of the study of red-sequence (RS) galaxies in 47 galaxy clusters (0.023 < z < 0.047) located in different environments: in the superclusters Hercules and Leo, and in the field, based on the SDSS catalog data. In the
interval, the number of bright RS dwarf galaxies in galaxy clusters increaseswith the X-ray luminosity of the cluster as logN ∝ log X 0.64 . The dwarf-to-giant ratio (DGR) does not depend on the surroundings, mass, or richness of the cluster. This ratio is seen to increase for galaxy clusters with log L X > 43.5 erg/s or σ > 520 km/s. The compositeDGR of galaxy clusters, determined both from the membership in different structures and the X-ray luminosity along the radius R 200, is minimum in the central regions of the clusters (about 0.6 ± 0.06), reaches a maximum within 0.3–0.9R 200 (about 0.9 ± 0.10), and decreases approximately to 0.7 ± 0.03 upon reaching the radius 1.4 R 200.

We present our B, V, Rc, and Ic observations of a \(3'.6 \times 3'\) field centered on the host galaxy of GRB 000926 (α2000.0=17h04m11s, \(\delta _{2000.0} = + 51^ \circ 47'9\mathop .\limits^{''} 8\)). The observations were carried out on the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope using the SCORPIO instrument. The catalog of galaxies detected in this field includes 264 objects for which the signal-to-noise ratio is larger than 5 in each photometric band. The following limiting magnitudes in the catalog correspond to this limitation: 26.6 (B), 25.7 (V), 25.8 (R), and 24.5 (I). The differential galaxy counts are in good agreement with previously published CCD observations of deep fields. We estimated the photometric redshifts for all of the cataloged objects and studied the color variations of the galaxies with z. For luminous spiral galaxies with M(B)z~1.  相似文献

We present the results of our spectroscopic and morphological studies of the galaxy UGC 7388 with the 8.1-m Gemini North telescope. Judging by its observed characteristics, UGC 7388 is a giant late-type spiral galaxy seen nearly edge-on. The main body of the galaxy is surrounded by two faint (μ B ~ 24 m /□″ and μ B ~ 25 · m 5/□″) extended (~ 20–30 kpc) loop-like structures. A large-scale rotation of the brighter loop about the main galaxy has been detected. We discuss the assumption that the tidal disruption of a relatively massive companion is observed in the case of UGC 7388. A detailed study and modeling of the observed structure of this unique galaxy can give important information about the influence of the absorption of massive companions on the galactic disks and about the structure of the dark halo around UGC 7388.  相似文献

Observations of the pair of galaxies VV 330 with the SCORPIO multimode instrument on the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory telescope are presented. Large-scale velocity fields of the ionized gas in Hα and brightness distributions in continuum and Hα have been constructed for both galaxies with the help of a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer. Long-slit spectroscopy is used to study the stellar kinematics. Analysis of the data obtained has revealed a complex structure in each of the pair components. Three kinematic subsystems have been identified in UGC 5600: a stellar disk, an “inner gas ring” turned with respect to the disk through ~80°, and an outer gas disk. The stellar and outer gas disks are noncoplanar. Possible scenarios for the formation of the observed multicomponent kinematic galactic structure are considered, including the case where the large-scale velocity field of the gas is represented by the kinematic model of a disk with a warp. The velocity field in the second galaxy of the pair, UGC 5609, is more regular. A joint analysis of the data on the photometric structure and the velocity field has shown that this is probably a late-type spiral galaxy whose shape is distorted by the gravitational interaction, possibly, with UGC 5600.  相似文献

We present properties of the low-surface-brightness galaxy KDG218 observed with the HST/ACS. The galaxy has a half-light (effective) diameter of a e = 47″ and a central surface brightness of SB V (0) = 24.m4/□″. The galaxy remains unresolved with the HST/ACS, which implies its distance of D > 13.1 Mpc and linear effective diameter of A e > 3.0 kpc. We notice that KDG218 is most likely associated with a galaxy group around the massive lenticular NGC4958 galaxy at approximately 22 Mpc, or with the Virgo Southern Extension filament at approximately 16.5 Mpc. At these distances, the galaxy is classified as an ultra-diffuse galaxy (UDG) similar to those found in the Virgo, Fornax, and Coma clusters. We also present a sample of 15 UDG candidates in the Local Volume. These sample galaxies have the following mean parameters: 〈D〉 = 5.1 Mpc, 〈A e 〉 = 4.8 kpc, and 〈SB B (e)〉 = 27.m4/□″. All the local UDG candidates reside near massive galaxies located in the regions with the mean stellar mass density (within 1 Mpc) about 50 times greater than the average cosmic density. The local fraction of UDGs does not exceed 1.5% of the Local Volume population. We notice that the presented sample of local UDGs is a heterogeneous one containing irregular, transition, and tidal types, as well as objects consisting of an old stellar population.  相似文献

We study the variations of the properties of groups of galaxies with dynamical masses of 1013 M <M 200<1014 M , represented by two samples: one has redshifts of z < 0.027 and is located in the vicinity of the Coma cluster, the other has z > 0.027, and is located in the regions of the following superclusters of galaxies: Hercules, Leo, Bootes, Ursa Major, and Corona Borealis. Using the archived data of the SDSS and 2MASX catalogs, we determined the concentration of galaxies in the systems by measuring it as the inner density of the group within the distance of the fifth closest galaxy from the center brighter than M K = ?23. m 3. We also measured the magnitude gap between the first and the fourth brightest galaxies ΔM 14 located within one half of the selected radius R 200, the fraction of early-type galaxies, and the ratio of bright dwarf galaxies (Mr = [?18. m 5,?16. m 5]) to giant galaxies (M r < ?18. m 5) (DGR) within the radius R 200. The main aim of the investigation is to find among these characteristics the ones that reflect the evolution of groups of galaxies. We determined that the ratio of bright dwarf galaxies to early-type giant galaxies on the red sequence depends only on the x-ray luminosity: the DGR increases with luminosity. The fraction of early-type galaxies in the considered systems is equal, on average, to 0.65 ± 0.01, and varies significantly for galaxies with σ200 < 300 kms?1. Based on the luminosity of the brightest galaxy, the magnitude gap between the first and the fourth brightest galaxies in the groups, and on model computations of these parameters, we selected four fossil group candidates: AWM4, NGC0533, NGC0741, and NGC6098 (where the brightest galaxy is a double). We observe no increase in the number of faint galaxies (the α parameter of the Schechter function is less than 1) in our composite luminosity function (LF) for galaxy systems with z < 0.027 in the M K = [?26m,?21. m 5] range, whereas earlier we obtained α > 1 for the LF of the Hercules and Leo superclusters of galaxies.  相似文献

This article is devoted to the analysis of new observational data obtained on the 6-m telescope using multimode instrument SCORPIO for two peculiar galaxies NGC 2748 and UGC 4385. Using scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) large-scale velocity fields of ionized gas in lines Hα and [N II] λ6584 Å for NGC 2748 and in line Hα for UGC 4385 and the maps of brightness distribution in continuum and in corresponding lines for both galaxies were constructed. Observational data obtained in the long-slit mode of spectroscopy gave information about the kinematics of stellar component. The analysis of the received materials for NGC 2748 have shown that this object is a disky galaxy with stellar shell which rotates around the major axis of main body. The origin of such shell is most likely connected with the capture and disruption of dwarf companion. The structure of ionized gas velocity field of UGC 4385 appeared to be very complex. The most regular part of the field which concerns the supposed ring is best represented by the model of circular rotation with expansion. In addition long-slit observations showed that the optical spectra of two bright in the infrared region condensations resemble the spectra of galaxies’ nuclei. A supposition was made that UGC 4385 is two galaxies in the stage of head-on collision.  相似文献

We present the results of our study of the stellar kinematics in the elliptical galaxy UGC 5119, which has previously been suspected to be a polar-ring galaxy. We have detected a rapidly rotating disk in the central region (r ≤ 3.2 kpc) of the galaxy’s main body and found a radial velocity gradient along its minor axis (in the putative ring). We conclude that UGC 5119 is a medium-luminosity elliptical galaxy with a rapidly rotating disk component and a stellar (probably polar) ring. We have calculated the Lick indices of the Hβ, Mggb, Fe 5270, and Fe 5335 absorption lines and compared them with evolutionary synthesis models. Differences in the [Mg/Fe] ratios, metallicities, and ages of the stars have been found: the young stellar population with a solar [Mg/Fe] ratio and a high metallicity dominates in the circumnuclear region (r ≤ 1 kpc), while the old one with a low metal abundance dominates in the ring.  相似文献

In this paper we study the relations between the main characteristics of groups and clusters of galaxies using the archival data of the SDSS and 2MASX catalogs. We have developed and implemented a new method of determining the size of galaxy systems and their effective radius which contains half of the galaxies and not half the luminosity, since the luminosity of the brightest galaxy in a group can account for over 50% of the total luminosity of the group. The derived parameters (log LK, logRe, and log σ200) for 94 systems of galaxies (0.0038 < z < 0.09) determine the Fundamental Plane (FP), which, with a scatter of 0.15, is similar in form to the FP of galaxy clusters obtained by Schaeffer et al. (1993) and D’Onofrio et al. (2013) with other methods and for different bands. We show that the FP in the near-infrared region (NIR) for 94 galaxy systems has the form of LK\(R_e^{0.70 \pm {{0.13}_\sigma }1.34 \pm 0.13}\), whereas in x-rays it has the form of—LX\(R_e^{1.15 \pm {{0.39}_\sigma }2.56 \pm 0.40}\). The form of the FP for groups and clusters is consistent with the FP for early-type galaxies determined in the same way. The form of the FP for galaxy systems deviates from the shape that one would expect from virial predictions. Adding the mass-to-light ratio as a fourth independent parameter has little effect on this deviation, but decreases the scatter of the FP for a sample of rich galaxy clusters by 12%.  相似文献
