There are two types of planetary noble gases: One, containing isotopically “anomalous” argon, krypton and xenon but isotopically “normal” helium and neon, was derived from outer stellar regions. The other, consisting almost entirely of isotopically “normal” argon, krypton and xenon, with little or no helium or neon, was derived from inner stellar regions. Mixing of nucleosynthesis products from different regions of a supernova is responsible for the observed correlations between elemental and isotopic ratios of planetary noble gases in different classes of meteorites. The solar system condensed directly from the chemically and isotopically heterogeneous debris of a single supernova. There is no convincing evidence, however, of separate nucleogenetic components in neon. Fractionation and spallation can account for all previously identified components of trapped meteoritic neon, Ne-A, Ne-B, Ne-C, Ne-D, Ne-E, Ne-Al, Ne-A2, Ne-E(L), Ne-E(H) and Ne-O, and this same mechanism also explains differences between the isotopic compositions of meteoritic, atmospheric, and solar wind neon. Variations in the abundance pattern of planetary noble gases are primarily the result of stellar fusion reactions and physical adsorption, rather than gas solubility. 相似文献

Gobabeb, an ordinary chondrite, was found near Gobabeb, South West Africa in 1969. Chemically and petrographically it belongs in the H4 group. But, in addition to almost homogeneous silicates and chromites, it contains rare, non-opaque spinels that vary greatly in composition from grain to grain. A similar association in an “almost equilibrated” portion of the Mezö-Madaras chondrite has been interpreted as evidence against the hypothesized metamorphic homogenization of ordinary chondrites. A comparison of the chromites and variable spinels from Mezö-Madaras and Gobabeb suggests, instead, that cation exchange is simply slower in the variable spinels than in the chromites. Based on the evidence to date, the survival of these highly variable spinels is not incompatible with a metamorphic episode for both these meteorites. 相似文献

Major, minor and trace element abundances have been determined by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) in whole rock and plagioclase separates of Serra de Magé (SdM). The whole rock contains 52% normative plagioclase and its chondritic normalized REE abundance pattern shows a large Eu anomaly, dominated by the plagioclase REE distribution, and nearly unfractionated La-Sm and Sm-Lu abundances. The plagioclase separates contained ~ 6% pyroxenes and exhibited a typical plagioclase REE distribution. The REE abundances in the derivative equilibrium magmas from which SdM and Moore County (MC) plagioclases crystallized have been estimated from the plagioclase data and the plagioclase mineral/liquid partition coefficients. The REE distributions in possibly earlier parental magmas were calculated by assuming that various degrees of plagioclase and pigeonite (plagioclase/pigeonite = 1) fractional crystallization had been operative prior to the crystallization of SdM and MC. The calculated La/Sm and Sm/Yb ratios for the earlier magmas are essentially the same as the equilibrium magmas over a wide range (10–95%) of the assumed fractional crystallization. Considering the REE distributions and the Fe/Fe+Mg ratios, calculation shows that there is no simple genetic relationship between MC and SdM via fractional crystallization processes. A hypothesis for the derivation of these cumulate eucrites in the plutonic environment from residual diogenitic liquid, which was produced by the extensive partial melting of an eucritic source material followed by the crystallization of diogenite, also fails to account for the fractionated REE patterns calculated for the equilibrium and the possible parental magmas for either SdM or MC. Equilibrium non-modal partial melting calculations indicate that SdM and MC could be genetically related by a factor ~ 6 difference in the degrees of partial melting from a similar source material. However, this common source material which should contain > 30% high-Ca clinopyroxene and has a chondritic normalized La/Yb ~ 3, is different than that proposed for the non-cumulate eucrites. 相似文献

The Gomez meteorite, weighing slightly over 47 kg, was found near the town of Gomez, Terry County, Texas (33° 10′53 “N, 102° 24′5” W) prior to 1974. It is a highly weathered, equilibrated L-6 chondrite of composition Fa 26, Fs 23. A large number of chromite grains and possibly partially weathered lawrencite grains were noted. 相似文献

High Possil and Strathmore are the first (1804) and last (1917) meteorite falls, respectively, of the three recorded in Scotland. Olivine compositions and total Fe contents in High Possil (Fa25.2; 21.35 wt %) and Strathmore (Fa25.3; 20.6 wt %) confirm their classification as L-group chondrites (Mason, 1963), and the presence of abundant plagioclase feldspar shows that both chondrites belong to petrologic type 6. Both chondrites display thermal and mechanical alteration attributable to moderate shock-loading appropriate to facies c (High Possil) and c-d (Strathmore) (Dodd and Jarosewich, 1979). Incipient shock-melting of metal and troilite in both chondrites is the first described from Lc chondrites, and differences in the responses of metallic and silicate minerals to shock-loading are discussed. 相似文献

Tibooburra, a new meteorite find from western New South Wales, belongs to the Vigarano subgroup of the carbonaceous chondrites and, on the basis of its opaque mineralogy, appears to be oxidised. Petrological evidence suggests that, like the Allende meteorite, Tibooburra is a CV3 chondrite which has experienced greater metamorphic effects than other CV3 meteorites. Tibooburra has a bulk composition intermediate between the CO and less altered CV chondrites. This transitional nature is exhibited by several elements and is convincingly displayed by the multivariate techniques of cluster analysis and principal component analysis. Tibooburra thus resembles several other CV chondrites, such as Coolidge and Karoonda, which have been strongly metamorphosed. This group of meteorites is believed to have accreted early in the history of the Vigarano parent body and, as a result, contain greater quantities of high temperature Ca-Al-rich inclusions but less low temperature matrix and volatile phases than other CV chondrites. Furthermore, in these meteorites both the matrix and magnesium silicate phases appear to be more iron rich than those in later accreted meteorites. Subsequently, these deeper seated meteorites have undergone more pronounced thermal metamorphism than those located in shallower portions of the parent body. 相似文献

A brilliant smoking meteor appeared in a clear sky in bright sunlight at 11 a.m., July 24, 1922 near Wynyard, Saskatchewan, Canada. The sight and thunderous sounds were witnessed by many hundreds of people in the rural district but no craters or meteorites were found at that time. Investigation and interviews with surviving witnesses in 1981 indicated a defined area near Big Quill Lake in which a meteorite may have fallen. Field investigation led to the Wynyard meteorite which had been found by a farmer sometime in the late 1960's at 104° 11'W 51°33'N. The Wynyard meteorite is a chondrite weighing 3.5 kg. It is moderately weathered and it may or may not have been part of the 1922 fall. 相似文献

This paper presents an interpretation of the evolution of the vector magnetic field at the photosphere based on measurements of the advanced Stokes polarimeter, along with chromospheric H from the Lockheed instrument operating on La Palma and X-ray images of the corona from Yohkoh. These measurements are consistent with the emergence of a nearly closed magnetic structure from the solar interior into the corona. The highly non-potential field topology inferred from the data suggests that strong field-aligned currents exist in the emergent magnetic structure as it buoyantly rises through the photosphere. Material trapped in this closed structure is pulled upward to later condense into a prominence. By analogy of this small active region evolution with the observed properties of large quiescent prominences, we speculate that this process might also be operative on a much larger scale. A 3-dimensional magnetostatic model is presented which has many topological features in common with the observations. 相似文献

Preliminary investigations have been made on two separate pieces from the Aïoun el Atrouss meteorite that fell on April 17, 1974 in southeast Mauritania. The major portion of the meteorite is a brecciated hypersthene achondrite with orthopyroxene (En74) as the major phase. Clasts of eucrite, up to 7 percent in volume within a single slice, occur within the hypersthene achondrite host. No evidence has been found of reaction between the two meteorite types, nor of the presence of any materials intermediate in composition. 相似文献

The Innisfree meteorite was the third fall for which accurate orbital data were secured from a camera network. Nine fragments were found within three months of the fall with a total mass of 4.58 kg. The ellipse of fall is unusually small because of the steep path in the atmosphere. The photograph from the Vegreville station reveals six trails below 26 km and these are correlated with the six main fragments, all with masses in excess of 300 g. A photometric study indicates that Innisfree had a peak absolute magnitude Mpan = ?12.1 at a height of 36 km. The recovered meteorites provide known masses for the late stages of the photographic trails which, combined with dynamical data, allow luminous efficiencies to be derived with unusual confidence. Late in the flight where shock wave effects dominate ablation, luminous efficiencies vary from 3 × 10?5 to 5 × 10?2 for velocities between 3 and 10 km s?1 and masses from 0.3 to 2.0 kg. The mean luminous efficiency for the entire flight is estimated between 4 × 10?2 and 8 × 10?2. 相似文献

The electron density observations made using ESRO-1 and ESRO-4 near solar maximum and solar minimum, respectively, show a strong longitudinal variation at middle latitudes in the southern hemisphere. The peak of this sinusoidal variation occurs at around 7 hr U.T. and decreases exponentially in size from about 300 km (depending on local time, season, solar flux) with increasing or decreasing altitude. During local summer conditions the amplitude is larger than during local winter conditions and particularly high values occur near the solar maximum. Selecting data from magnetically quiet periods, a quantitative model is constructed of the UT-eflect in the topside electron densities. 相似文献
