We determined atmospheric parameters of the Galactic early B-supergiant HD 198478 (55 Cyg) from the UV silicon lines taken from the high-resolution 1150–1980 Å IUE spectra. TLUSTY numerical code was used to model the stellar atmosphere and to determine the temperature and surface gravity assuming a non-LTE plane parallel hydrostatic stellar atmosphere with microturbulence. The synthesized spectra were broadened by the IUE instrumental profile, rotational and macroturbulent velocity with ROTIN numerical code. The silicon 1264 Å, 1309 Å, 1312 Å, 1417 Å and 1294–1303 Å multiplet lines of different stages of ionization (Si II and Si III) and Balmer Hδ 4101 Å line were modeled, leading to the temperature, surface gravity, rotational and macroturbulent velocity values. Our results have shown that the line broadening cannot be explained by rotational velocity only, but additional macroturbulent velocity component should be taken into account. HD 198478 shows a significant degeneracy in velocity, which means that the individual contributions of the macroturbulence and rotation in the total velocity broadening cannot be distinguished. Adequate fit of TLUSTY models to the observed non-resonant silicon lines suggests that the non-LTE plane-parallel hydrostatic stellar model without wind contribution can be used to explain such lines. We have obtained similar results using the HST STIS spectra in the same procedure, showing that the IUE spectra, despite their lacking quality compared to the STIS spectra, are reliable enough in determination of the B supergiants’ photospheric parameters. 相似文献

Keeping apart the problem, whether Modified Newtonian Dynamics [MOND] can replace ‘dark matter’, this letter considers seven different theoretical recurrences of ‘critical acceleration’ of MOND noticed by Sivaram in various physical situations; adds five more observational recurrences to the list; and arrives at a set of laws which seem to be followed by all the systems bound by different fundamental forces; suggesting a clue to unification of fundamental forces. This attempt proposes a general explanation for ‘flattening of galaxies’ rotation-curves’ as well as the ‘expansion of the universe’. 相似文献

We consider the secular effect of outgassing torques on the rotation of a comet nucleus. An averaging method is applied to obtain evolutionary equations which allow us to study the long-term variations in the nucleus spin state. Since the spin axis direction of 19P/Borrelly’s nucleus is close to the line of apsides direction, a simplified version of these equations can be written to analytically study the most important qualitative effects. In particular, a correlation between the drift of the rotation axis direction and the possible spin up/spin down of the nucleus is revealed. 相似文献

The effect of the Σ-meson well depth on the gravitational redshift is examined within the framework of relativistic mean field
theory for the baryon octet system. It is found that, for a stable neutron star, the gravitational redshift increases with
the central energy density increase or with the mass increase but decreases as the radius increases. Considering a change
of US(N)U_{\Sigma}^{(N)} from −30 MeV to 30 MeV, for a stable neutron star the gravitational redshift near to the maximum mass increases. In addition,
it is also found that the growth of the US(N)U_{\Sigma}^{(N)} makes the gravitational redshift as a function of M
max /R increase, the higher the US(N)U_{\Sigma}^{(N)} the less the change in the gravitational redshift. 相似文献

A set of smoothed temperature gradient profiles around overshooting layers at the solar convective zone bottom is considered. In classical local theories of convection the one point defined according to the Schwarzschild criterion is enough to describe a convective boundary. To get a sophisticated picture of the overshooting we use four points to compute the transition overshooting functions. Analyzing the transition gradient profiles we found that the overshooting convective flux may be either positive or negative. A negative overshooting flux appears in nonlocal convective theories and causes a steep temperature gradient profile. But we propose an evenly smoothed gradient which corresponds to a convective flux positive everywhere. To outline the effect of the temperature gradient on the solar oscillations the squared Brunt–Väisälä frequency N 2 is calculated. In local convective theories the N 2 profile shows the discontinuity of the first derivative at the convective boundary, while all smoothed profiles eliminate the break. 相似文献

Consideration is given to the estimates for the strength of the consolidated material forming the bulk of the nucleus of comet 67P Churyumov–Gerasimenko and those for the strength of the surface material overlying the consolidated material at the sites of the first and last contact of the Philae lander with the nucleus. The strength of the consolidated material was estimated by analyzing the terrain characteristics of the steep cliffs, where the material is exposed on the surface. Based on these estimates, the tensile strength of the material is in the range from 1.5 to 100 Pa; the shear strength, from ~13 to ?30 Pa; and the compressive strength, from 30 to 150 Pa, possibly up to 1.5 kPa. These are very low strength values. Given the dependence of the measurement results on the size of the measured object, they are similar to those of fresh dry snow at –10°C. The (compressive) strength of the surface material at the site of the first touchdown of Philae on the nucleus is estimated from the measurements of the dynamics of the surface impact by the spacecraft’s legs and the geometry of the impact pits as 1–3 kPa. For comparison with the measurement results for ice-containing materials in terrestrial laboratories, it needs to be taken into account that the rate of deformation by Philae’s legs is four orders of magnitude higher than that in typical terrestrial measurements, leading to a possible overestimation of the strength by roughly an order of magnitude. There was an attemp to put one of the MUPUS sensors into the surface material at the site of the last contact of Philae with the nucleus. Noticeable penetration of the tester probe was not achieved that led to estimation of the minimum compressive strength of the material to be ?4 MPa4 This fairly high strength appears to indicate the presence of highly porous ice with grains “frozen” at contacts. 相似文献

The cooling of plasmas in closed coronal loops by thermal conduction is important when considering their detectability at
X-ray and EUV wavelengths. A non-local formalism of thermal conduction originating in laboratory plasmas is used and it is
shown that while the effect is unlikely to be important for loops that are in a steady state, it does play a significant role
in loops that are impulsively heated (e.g., by nanoflares). Such loops are “under-dense”, and so hot electrons have a relatively long mean free path. Analytic and numerical
models are presented, and it is shown that conduction cooling times are lengthened quite considerably. A comparison of various
cooling times with ionisation times is also presented, and it is noted that this conductive physics may enhance the chances
of observing hot nanoflare-heated plasma. 相似文献

We conducted an experiment in conjunction with the total solar eclipse of 29 March 2006 in Libya that measured the coronal intensity through two filters centered at 3850 Å and 4100 Å with bandwidths of ≈?40 Å. The purpose of these measurements was to obtain the intensity ratio through these two filters to determine the electron temperature. The instrument, Imaging Spectrograph of Coronal Electrons (ISCORE), consisted of an eight inch, f/10 Schmidt Cassegrain telescope with a thermoelectrically-cooled CCD camera at the focal plane. Results show electron temperatures of 105 K close to the limb to 3×106 K at 1.3R ⊙. We describe this novel technique, and we compare our results to other relevant measurements. This technique could be easily implemented on a space-based platform using a coronagraph to produce global maps of the electron temperature of the solar corona. 相似文献

The direct propagation of acoustic waves, driven harmonically at the solar photosphere, into the three-dimensional solar atmosphere
is examined numerically in the framework of ideal magnetohydrodynamics. It is of particular interest to study the leakage
of 5-minute global solar acoustic oscillations into the upper, gravitationally stratified and magnetised atmosphere, where
the modelled solar atmosphere possesses realistic temperature and density stratification. This work aims to complement and
bring further into the 3D domain our previous efforts (by Erdélyi et al., 2007, Astron. Astrophys. 467, 1299) on the leakage of photospheric motions and running magnetic-field-aligned waves excited by these global oscillations.
The constructed model atmosphere, most suitable perhaps for quiet Sun regions, is a VAL IIIC derivative in which a uniform
magnetic field is embedded. The response of the atmosphere to a range of periodic velocity drivers is numerically investigated
in the hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic approximations. Among others the following results are discussed in detail: i) High-frequency waves are shown to propagate from the lower atmosphere across the transition region, experiencing relatively
low reflection, and transmitting most of their energy into the corona; ii) the thin transition region becomes a wave guide for horizontally propagating surface waves for a wide range of driver periods,
and particularly at those periods that support chromospheric standing waves; iii) the magnetic field acts as a waveguide for both high- and low-frequency waves originating from the photosphere and propagating
through the transition region into the solar corona.

SOHO/LASCO data were used to obtain the latitudinal and radial distributions of the brightness of the K- and F-corona in the
period of 1996 – 2007, and their solar-cycle variations were studied. Then an inversion method was employed to obtain the
radial distributions of the electron density N
e(R,θ) for various latitude values on the coronal images. Our values of N
e(R,θ) are in good agreement with the findings of other authors. We found that in an edge-on streamer belt the electron density,
like the K-corona brightness, varies with distance more slowly in the near-equatorial rays than in near-polar regions. We
have developed a method for assessing the maximum values of the electron density at the center of the face-on streamer belt
in its bright rays and depressions between them. Not all bright rays observed in the face-on streamer belt are found to be
associated with an increased electron density in them. Mechanisms for forming such rays have been suggested. 相似文献

The Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) is one of the new technology low frequency radio interferometers currently under construction at an extremely radio-quiet location in Western Australia. The MWA design brings to bear the recent availability of powerful high-speed computational and digital signal processing capabilities on the problem of low frequency high-fidelity imaging with a rapid cadence and high spectral resolution. Solar and heliosphere science are among the key science objectives of the MWA and have guided the array design from its very conception. We present here a brief overview of the design and capabilities of the MWA with emphasis on its suitability for solar physics and remote-sensing of the heliosphere. We discuss the solar imaging and interplanetary scintillation (IPS) science capabilities of the MWA and also describe a new software framework. This software, referred to as Haystack InterPlanetary Software System (HIPSS), aims to provide a common data repository, interface, and analysis tools for IPS data from all observatories across the world. 相似文献

We present a multiwavelength analysis of a long-duration, white-light solar flare (M8.9/3B) event that occurred on 04 June 2007 from AR NOAA 10960. The flare was observed by several spaceborne instruments, namely SOHO/MDI, Hinode/SOT, TRACE, and STEREO/SECCHI. The flare was initiated near a small, positive-polarity, satellite sunspot at the center of the active region, surrounded by opposite-polarity field regions. MDI images of the active region show a considerable amount of changes in the small positive-polarity sunspot of δ configuration during the flare event. SOT/G-band (4305 Å) images of the sunspot also suggest the rapid evolution of this positive-polarity sunspot with highly twisted penumbral filaments before the flare event, which were oriented in a counterclockwise direction. It shows the change in orientation, and also the remarkable disappearance of twisted penumbral filaments (≈35?–?40%) and enhancement in umbral area (≈45?–?50%) during the decay phase of the flare. TRACE and SECCHI observations reveal the successive activation of two helically-twisted structures associated with this sunspot, and the corresponding brightening in the chromosphere as observed by the time-sequence of SOT/Ca?ii H line (3968 Å) images. The secondary, helically-twisted structure is found to be associated with the M8.9 flare event. The brightening starts six?–?seven minutes prior to the flare maximum with the appearance of a secondary, helically-twisted structure. The flare intensity maximizes as the secondary, helically-twisted structure moves away from the active region. This twisted flux tube, associated with the flare triggering, did not launch a CME. The location of the flare activity is found to coincide with the activation site of the helically-twisted structures. We conclude that the activation of successive helical twists (especially the second one) in the magnetic-flux tubes/ropes plays a crucial role in the energy build-up process and the triggering of the M-class solar flare without a coronal mass ejection (CME). 相似文献

In 2006, Earth encountered a trail of dust left by Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle two revolutions ago, in A.D. 1932. The resulting Leonid shower outburst was observed by low light level cameras from locations in Spain. The outburst peaked on 2006 Nov. 19d 04h39m ± 3m UT (predicted: 19d 04h50m ± 15m UT), with a FWHM of 43 ± 10 min (predicted: 38 min), at a peak rate of ZHR=80±10/h (predicted: 50-200 per hour). A low level background of older and brighter Filament Leonids (χ∼2.1) was also present, which dominated rates for Leonids brighter than magnitude +4. The 1932-dust outburst was detected among Leonids of +0 magnitude and brighter. These outburst Leonids were much brighter than expected, with a magnitude distribution index χ=2.60±0.15 (predicted: χ=3.47 and up). Trajectories and orbits of 24 meteors were calculated, most of which are part of the Filament component. Those that were identified as 1932-dust grains penetrated just as deep as Leonids in past encounters. We conclude that larger meteoroids than expected were present in the tail of the 1932-dust trail and meteoroids did not end up there because of low density. We also find that the radiant position of meteors in the Filament component scatter in a circle with radius 0.39°, which is wider than in 1998, when the diameter was 0.09°. This supports the hypothesis that the Filament component consists of meteoroids in mean-motion resonances. 相似文献

We describe the archive of scans of the astronomical plates obtained in the observations of comet Hale–Bopp. The observations were carried out from August 17, 1996, to April 29, 1997, at the Zeiss-400/2000 astrograph of the Zvenigorod Observatory of the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INASAN). The archive contains the images that can be used in astrometric, photometric, and astrophysical studies. In some of the plates, the size of the comet reaches 6.3° (23 cm). In many scans, the details of the cometary tail, including individual jets, vortexes, etc., are clearly distinguishable. The archive of the images is available free. 相似文献

In this work an analysis of a series of complex cosmic ray events that occurred between 17 January 2005 and 23 January 2005
using solar, interplanetary and ground based cosmic ray data is being performed. The investigated period was characterized
both by significant galactic cosmic ray (GCR) and solar cosmic ray (SCR) variations with highlighted cases such as the noticeable
series of Forbush effects (FEs) from 17 January 2005 to 20 January 2005, the Forbush decrease (FD) on 21 January 2005 and
the ground level enhancement (GLE) of the cosmic ray counter measurements on 20 January 2005. The analysis is focusing on
the aforementioned FE cases, with special attention drawn on the 21 January 2005, FD event, which demonstrated several exceptional
features testifying its uniqueness. Data from the ACE spacecraft, together with GOES X-ray recordings and LASCO CME coronagraph
images were used in conjunction to the ground based recordings of the Worldwide Neutron Monitor Network, the interplanetary
data of OMNI database and the geomagnetic activity manifestations denoted by K
p and D
st indices. More than that, cosmic ray characteristics as density, anisotropy and density gradients were also calculated. The
results illustrate the state of the interplanetary space that cosmic rays crossed and their corresponding modulation with
respect to the multiple extreme solar events of this period. In addition, the western location of the 21 January 2005 solar
source indicates a new cosmic ray feature, which connects the position of the solar source to the cosmic ray anisotropy variations.
In the future, this feature could serve as an indicator of the solar source and can prove to be a valuable asset, especially
when satellite data are unavailable. 相似文献

Precursor techniques, in particular those using geomagnetic indices, often are used in the prediction of the maximum amplitude
for a sunspot cycle. Here, the year 2008 is taken as being the sunspot minimum year for cycle 24. Based on the average aa index value for the year of the sunspot minimum and the preceding four years, we estimate the expected annual maximum amplitude
for cycle 24 to be about 92.8±19.6 (1-sigma accuracy), indicating a somewhat weaker cycle 24 as compared to cycles 21 – 23.
Presuming a smoothed monthly mean sunspot number minimum in August 2008, a smoothed monthly mean sunspot number maximum is
expected about October 2012±4 months (1-sigma accuracy). 相似文献

Based on the measurements performed from 2007 to 2015 at the summit of Mount Shatdzhatmaz adjacent to the 2.5-m telescope at the Caucasus Observatory of the SAI MSU, we have determined the statistical characteristics of basic meteorological parameters: the ambient air temperature, the ground wind speed, and the relative humidity. The stability of these parameters over the entire period of our measurements and their variations within an annual cycle have been studied. The median temperature on clear nights is +3.2°C, although there are nights with a temperature below ?15°C. The typical ground wind speed is 3 m s?1; the probability of a wind stronger than 10 m s?1 does not exceed 2%. The losses of observing time due to high humidity are maximal in the summer period but, on the whole, are small over a year, less than 10%. We have estimated the absolute water vapor content in the atmosphere, which is especially important for infrared observations. Minimum precipitablewater vapor is observed in December–February; the median value over these months is 5 mm. We additionally provide the wind speeds at various altitudes above the ground (from 1 to 16 km) that we obtained when measuring the optical turbulence. We present the results and technique of our measurements of the annual amount of clear night astronomical time, which is, on average, 1320 h, i.e., 45% of the possible one at the latitude of the observatory. The period from mid-September to mid-March accounts for about 70% of the clear time. A maximum of clear skies is observed in November, when its fraction reaches 60% of the possible astronomical night time. 相似文献

Recently, some papers in the literature have shown that, from a bimetric theory of gravity, it is possible to produce massive gravitational waves which generate a longitudinal component in a particular polarization of the wave. After a review of previous works, in this paper the longitudinal response function of interferometers for this particular polarization of the wave is computed in two different gauges, showing the gauge invariance, and in its full frequency dependence, with specific application to the Virgo and LIGO interferometers. 相似文献

A re-evaluation of observations of the 16 April, 1893 solar eclipse suggests that the comet photographed during totality was, in fact, a disconnected coronal mass ejection. Like the disconnection event in 1980 reported by Illing and Hundhausen, the outward speed of the convex (toward the Sun) surface for the 1893 event was relatively low (90 km s–1). Candidate disconnection events were also observed during solar eclipses in 1860 and 1980. 相似文献
