The effect of ionospheric wind on the gravity wave propagation is studied. These waves arise in the ionosphere due to intensification of their sources near the Earth’s surface during enhanced seismic activity. The influence of the wind on these waves is connected with the Ampere’s force that produces the ion-drag force acting on the atmosphere. This results in the occurrence of the discrete wave spectrum the maximum of which increases in proportion to the numbers of the natural scale. Furthermore, these waves are amplified during propagation from the source region in the direction perpendicular to the wind direction. These peculiarities of the gravity waves can be used for monitoring of seismic activity based on the ionosphere sounding. 相似文献

The load Love numbers, Green’s functions, and oceanic tidal loading effect over the territory of Europe are calculated for the PREM and IASP91 models of the Earth and CSR3 ocean-tide model. Computations were carried out for the reference periods of 1 s, 12 h, and 24 h. It is established that the corrections to gravity acceleration for the M2 wave significantly differ in different models. 相似文献

Based on one type of practical Biot's equation and the dynamic-stiffness matrices ofa poroelastic soil layer and half-space, Green's functions were derived for unitformly distributed loads acting on an inclined line in a poroelastie layered site. This analysis overcomes significant problems in wave scattering due to local soil conditions and dynamic soil-structure interaction. The Green's functions can be reduced to the case of an elastic layered site developed by Wolf in 1985. Parametric studies are then carried out through two example problems. 相似文献

The dynamic stiffness method combined with the Fourier transform is utilized to derive the in-plane Green’s functions for inclined and uniformly distributed loads in a multi-layered transversely isotropic(TI)half-space.The loaded layer is fixed to obtain solutions restricted in it and the corresponding reactions forces, which are then applied to the total system with the opposite sign.By adding solutions restricted in the loaded layer to solutions from the reaction forces, the global solutions in the wavenumber domain are obtained, and the dynamic Green’s functions in the space domain are recovered by the inverse Fourier transform. The presented formulations can be reduced to the isotropic case developed by Wolf(1985),and are further verified by comparisons with existing solutions in a uniform isotropic as well as a layered TI halfspace subjected to horizontally distributed loads which are special cases of the more general problem addressed. The deduced Green’s functions,in conjunction with boundary element methods, will lead to significant advances in the investigation of a variety of wave scattering, wave radiation and soil-structure interaction problems in a layered TI site.Selected numerical results are given to investigate the influence of material anisotropy, frequency of excitation, inclination angle and layered on the responses of displacement and stress, and some conclusions are drawn. 相似文献

The system of Biot vector equations in the frequency space includes two elliptic-type vector partial differential equations with unknown displacement vectors in the solid and liquid phases. Considering the Biot equations, alongside with Pride’s equations, the key approaches to the theoretical study of the elastic waves in the two-phase fluid-saturated media, the author suggests an analytical solution for the inhomogeneous Biot equations in the frequency space, which is reduced to finding its fundamental solution (Green’s function). The solution of this problem consists of solutions for two systems of Biot equations. In the first system, only the first equation is inhomogeneous, while in the second system, only the second equation is inhomogeneous and, as it is shown, its right-hand side is exclusively a potential function. The fundamental solution of the full system of inhomogeneous Biot equations (in which both equations are inhomogeneous) is represented in the form of Green’s matrix-tensor, for the scalar elements of which the analytical relations are presented. The obtained formulas describing the elastic displacements of both the solid and liquid phases reflect three wave types, namely, compressional waves of the first and the second kind (the fast and the slow waves, respectively) and shear waves. Similar terms (those describing the same type of the elastic waves in the solid and liquid phases) in the expressions for Green’s functions are linked with each other through the coefficient that links the components of the displacement vectors of the solid and liquid phases corresponding to the given wave type. 相似文献

The strike slip Yammouneh fault is the longest fault in Lebanon, crossing the territory from South to North. It was responsible for major historical earthquakes like the 1202 A.D. earthquake, estimated to M s7.6. This paper presents a site-specific estimation of the ground motion caused by a potential M w7.5 earthquake on the Yammouneh fault, similar to the 1202 event, for various sites within the Beirut area. The empirical Green’s function technique EGF is used to estimate the median and the standard deviations of the seismic ground motion at the reference station BHL, taking into account epistemic and aleatory uncertainties related to source parameters. These uncertainties were quantified through a sensitivity analysis of the position of the rupture nucleation X nuc, the slip roughness parameter K, the corner frequency f c and the magnitude M c of the EGF. The rock ground motion is then transferred to various other sites within the Beirut area, using instrumental Fourier transfer functions. Site amplification factors are next deduced by computing the ratio between response spectra at sediment sites and at a reference rock station. Considering the limits of the EGF method in the near field of extended sources, the EGF approach is considered only up to a magnitude M w of 6.5. Selected Ground Motion Predictive Equations are then used to simulate a M w7.5 event at a reference station. By applying the amplification factors, the response spectra at the different sites of Beirut are also calculated and compared with the actual response spectra used in the Lebanese regulations. 相似文献

When the effect of a solar wind dynamic pressure pulse on the magnetospheric and ionospheric dynamics is studied, it is usually difficult to detect the effect of a sudden change in the density against the background of the other varying solar wind parameters, which often play a most pronounced role. Cases in which the solar wind plasma density gradient dominated in the dynamics of the different parameters of an interplanetary medium and its magnetic field are considered in this work. Variations in the Earth’s dayside magnetopause current caused by a change in the solar wind ion density are presented for two such cases (February 11 and January 11, 1997) based on the method developed by us previously. Variations in the dayside magnetopause current for collisions of the magnetosphere with corotating interacting flows in January 2004, studied in detail by us previously, are also presented for Saturn. The estimates are comparable with the current values in the transitional three-dimensional current systems of Saturn that were previously calculated by us. 相似文献

In this work we use ion and magnetic field data from the AMPTE-UKS mission to study the characteristics of low frequency ( r p) waves observed upstream of the Earths bow shock. We test the application of various plasma-field correlations and magnetic ratios derived from linear Vlasov theory to identify the modes in this region. We evaluate (for a parameter space consistent with the ion foreshock) the Alfvén ratio, the parallel compressibility, the crosshelicity, the noncoplanar ratio, the magnetic compression and the polarization for the two kinetic instabilities that can be generated in the foreshock by the interaction of hot diffuse ions with the solar wind: the left-hand resonant and the right-hand resonant ion beam instabilities. Comparison of these quantities with the observed plasma-field correlations and various magnetic properties of the waves observed during 10 intervals on 30 October 1984, where the waves are associated with diffuse ions, allows us to identify regions with Alfvénic waves and regions where the predominant mode is the right-hand resonant instability. In all the cases the waves are transverse, propagating at angles 33° and are elliptically polarized. Our results suggest that while the observed Alfvén waves are generated locally by hot diffuse ions, the right-handed waves may result from the superposition of waves generated by two different types of beam distribution (i.e. cold beam and diffuse ions). Even when there was good agreement between the values of observed transport ratios and the values given by the theory, some discrepancies were found. This shows that the observed waves are different from the theoretical modes and that mode identification based only on polarization quantities does not give a complete picture of the waves characteristics and can lead to mode identification of waves whose polarization may agree with theoretical predictions even when other properties can diverge from those of the theoretical modes. 相似文献

A spherical approximation makes the basis for a majority of formulas in physical geodesy. However, the present-day accuracy
in determining the disturbing potential requires an ellipsoidal approximation. The paper deals with constructing Green’s function
for an ellipsoidal Earth by an ellipsoidal harmonic expansion and using it for determining the disturbing potential. From
the result obtained the part that corresponds to the spherical approximation has been extracted. Green’s function is known
to depend just on the geometry of the surface where boundary values are given. Thus, it can be calculated irrespective of
the gravity data completeness. No changes of gravity data have an effect on Green’s function and they can be easily taken
into account if the function has already been constructed. Such a method, therefore, can be useful in determining the disturbing
potential of an ellipsoidal Earth. 相似文献

We present a method to unify the calculation of Green’s functions for an electromagnetic (EM) transmitting source embedded in a homogeneous stratified medium. A virtual interface parallel to layer interfaces is introduced through the source location. The potentials for Green’s function are derived by decomposing the partial wave solutions to Helmholtz’s equations into upward and downward within boundaries. The amplitudes of the potentials in each stratum are obtained recursively from the initial amplitudes at the source level. The initial amplitudes are derived by coupling with the transmitting sources and following the discontinuity of the tangential electric and magnetic fields at the source interface. Only the initial terms are related to the transmitting sources and thus need to be modified for different transmitters, whereas the kernel connected with the stratified media stays unchanged. Hence, the present method can be easily applied to EM transmitting sources with little modification. The application of the proposed method to the marine controlled-source electromagnetic method (MCSEM) demonstrates its simplicity and flexibility. 相似文献

The origination of various plasma inhomogeneities in the magnetosheath in front of the Earth’s magnetosphere is analyzed within classical magnetohydrodynamics. The effect of directional discontinuities or tangential and rotational discontinuities of the solar wind on plasma is studied. The origination of inhomogeneities of the type of secondary MHD waves in the magnetosheath is shown; the former equalize plasma parameters when restoring the stationary state. The effect of a rotational discontinuity on the bow shock–Earth’s magnetosphere system is of special interest, with distinguishing of plasma inhomogeneities of the plateau type observed in the near-Earth space. 相似文献

The stochastic Green’s function method, which simulates one component of the far-field S-waves from an extended fault plane
at high frequencies (Kamae et al., J Struct Constr Eng Trans AIJ, 430:1–9, 1991), is extended to simulate the three components of the full waveform in layered half-spaces for broadband frequency
range. The method firstly computes ground motions from small earthquakes, which correspond to the ruptures of sub-faults on
a fault plane of a large earthquake, and secondly constructs the strong motions of the large earthquake by superposing the
small ground motions using the empirical Green’s function technique (e.g., Irikura, Proc 7th Japan Earthq Eng Symp, 151–156, 1986). The broadband stochastic omega-square model is proposed as the moment rate functions of the small earthquakes,
in which random and zero phases are used at higher and lower frequencies, respectively. The zero phases are introduced to
simulate a smooth ramp function of the moment function with the duration of 1/fc s (fc: the corner frequency) and to reproduce
coherent strong motions at low frequencies (i.e., the directivity pulse). As for the radiation coefficients, the theoretical
values of double couple sources for lower frequencies and the theoretical isotropic values for the P-, SV-, and SH-waves (Onishi
and Horike, J Struct Constr Eng Trans AIJ, 586:37–44, 2004) for high frequencies are used. The proposed method uses the theoretical Green’s functions of layered half-spaces
instead of the far-field S-waves, which reproduce the complete waves including the direct and reflected P- and S-waves and
surface waves at broadband frequencies. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the 1994 Northridge earthquake, and results
show excellent agreement with the observation records at broadband frequencies. At the same time, the method still needs improvements
especially because it underestimates the high-frequency vertical components in the near fault range. Nonetheless, the method
will be useful for modeling high frequency contributions in the hybrid methods, which use stochastic and deterministic methods
for high and low frequencies, respectively (e.g., the stochastic Green’s function method + finite difference methods; Kamae
et al., Bull Seism Soc Am, 88:357–367, 1998; Pitarka et al., Bull Seism Soc Am 90:566–586, 2000), because it reproduces the full waveforms in layered media including not only random characteristics at
higher frequencies but also theoretical and deterministic coherencies at lower frequencies. 相似文献

In the present paper, an analytical expression of the Green’s function of linearized Saint-Venant equations (LSVEs) for shallow
water waves is provided and applied to analyse the propagation of a perturbation superposed to a uniform flow. Independently
of the kinematic character of the base flow, i.e., subcritical or supercritical uniform flow, the effects of a non-uniform vertical velocity profile and a non-constant resistance
coefficient are accounted for. The use of the Darcy-Weisbach friction law allows a unified treatment of both laminar and turbulent
conditions. The influence on the wave evolution of the wall roughness and the fluid viscosity are finally discussed, showing
that in turbulent regime the assumption of constant friction coefficient may lead to an underestimation of both amplification
and damping factors on the wave fronts, especially at low Reynolds numbers. This conclusion has to be accounted for, particularly
in describing hyper-concentrated suspensions or other kinds of Newtonian mixtures, for which the high values of the kinematic
viscosity may lead to relatively low Reynolds numbers. 相似文献

Few studies of wave propagation in layered saturated soils have been reported in the literature. In this paper, a general solution of the equation of wave motion in saturated soils, based on one kind of practical Biot‘s equation, was deduced by introducing wave potentials. Then exact dynamic-stiffness matrices for a poroelastic soil layer and halfspace were derived, which extended Wolf‘s theory for an elastic layered site to the case of poroelasticity, thus resolving a fundamental problem in the field of wave propagation and soil-structure interaction in a poroelastic layered soil site. By using the integral transform method, Green‘s functions of horizontal and vertical uniformly distributed loads in a poroelastic layered soil site were given. Finally, the theory was verified by numerical examples and dynamic responses by comparing three different soil sites. This study has the following advantages: all parameters in the dynamic-stiffness matrices have explicitly physical meanings and the thickness of the sub-layers does not affect the precision of the calculation which is very convenient for engineering applications. The present theory can degenerate into Wolf‘s theory and yields numerical results approaching those for an ideal elastic layered site when porosity tends to zero. 相似文献

Historically, the Moscow region regularly experienced rather weak but quite perceptible seismic vibrations produced by intermediate-depth
earthquakes of the Vrancea zone (Romania), located at a distance of 1400 km from Moscow. The coincidence of a number of unique
factors such as a slowly varying focal depth, predominant source mechanisms, weak attenuation of seismic radiation in the
north-northeast direction provide favorable conditions for application of the empirical Green’s function method. Using the
digital seismogram of the Vrancea Mw-5.8 earthquake recorded at the Moscow seismic station, we simulated synthetic seismograms of a scenario (expected maximum)
earthquake with Mw = 8.0, by application of the empirical Green’s function method adjusted for the given conditions. The calculation procedure
was verified using analog records of strong earthquakes available at the Moscow seismic station. Digital records of the Obninsk
seismic station included in the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) system were used for additional control.
Here, the scenario earthquake was modeled using the data on a much stronger earthquake of 1990 ( MW = 6.9). It is shown that, despite a certain scatter (quite adequately assessed in the scope of the method), the ultimate
estimates of expected seismic impacts are quite reliable and can be recommended for practical use. 相似文献

Since the sign up of CTBT (Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty), the nuclear monitoring and distinguishing has gained great attention by the treaty countries. Seismology is one of the primary technical means available for monitoring compliance to a CTBT. However, there does not exist a single criterion, so far, that can effectively distinguish explorations from earthquakes. It has been known that source time function (abbreviated to STF) of an underground nuclear explosion contains important p… 相似文献

The collision of a solar wind tangential discontinuity with the bow shock and magnetopause is considered in the scope of an MHD approximation. Using MHD methods of trial calculations and generalized shock polars, it has been indicated that a fast shock refracted into the magnetosheath originates when density increases across a tangential discontinuity and a fast rarefaction wave is generated when density decreases at this discontinuity. It has been indicated that a shock front shift under the action of collisions with a tangential discontinuity is experimentally observed and a fast bow shock can be transformed into a slow shock. Using a specific event as an example, it has been demonstrated that solar wind tangential discontinuity affects the geomagnetic field behavior. 相似文献

With dense seismic arrays and advanced imaging methods, regional three-dimensional(3D) Earth models have become more accurate. It is now increasingly feasible and advantageous to use a 3D Earth model to better locate earthquakes and invert their source mechanisms by fitting synthetics to observed waveforms. In this study, we develop an approach to determine both the earthquake location and source mechanism from waveform information. The observed waveforms are filtered in different frequency bands and separated into windows for the individual phases. Instead of picking the arrival times, the traveltime differences are measured by cross-correlation between synthetic waveforms based on the 3D Earth model and observed waveforms. The earthquake location is determined by minimizing the cross-correlation traveltime differences. We then fix the horizontal location of the earthquake and perform a grid search in depth to determine the source mechanism at each point by fitting the synthetic and observed waveforms. This new method is verified by a synthetic test with noise added to the synthetic waveforms and a realistic station distribution. We apply this method to a series of M_W3.4–5.6 earthquakes in the Longmenshan fault(LMSF) zone, a region with rugged topography between the eastern margin of the Tibetan plateau and the western part of the Sichuan basin. The results show that our solutions result in improved waveform fits compared to the source parameters from the catalogs we used and the location can be better constrained than the amplitude-only approach. Furthermore, the source solutions with realistic topography provide a better fit to the observed waveforms than those without the topography, indicating the need to take the topography into account in regions with rugged topography. 相似文献
