Summary The data on geopotential heights and temperatures at 7 pressure levels between 1000-10 hPa above Berlin(52.5 °N, 13.4 °E) are analysed for the winters of 1963–1973. No demonstrable effect of the interplanetary magnetic field sector boundary crossing (IMF SBC) is found in the lower and middle stratosphere, but there is a demonstrable effect in the middle troposphere at the 500 hPa level. This effect is less important than the IMF SBC effect in the tropospheric vorticity area index and seems to be of a different type.

Summary The application of Maslov asymptotic theory in a general 3-D mixed subspace of 6-D complex phase space is proposed to obtain the integral superpositions of Gaussian packets and beams. The ray method and the superposition of plane waves (Maslov method of Chapman and Drummond [7]) are special limiting cases of the above mentioned approach. The same high-frequency asymptotic expansion formulae for seismic body waves were derived previously in [8] using the Gaussian beam method.

Summary Some regularization approaches to downward heat flow continuation from the Earth's surface to the depth of interest are presented, provided the heat transfer is described by the homogeneous steady-state equation. The Fourier transform of horizontal coordinates is used and the relation between the regularization of the heat flow spectrum and the regularization of the heat flow in the spatial domain are discussed. The utilization of an a priori information about the subsurface heat flow is mentioned.

Summary The theory of methods of computing single- and inter-station transfer functions in both the spectral and time domains was developed in paper[1]. Both approaches are applied to the variation data recorded at field stations along two non-simultaneous profiles traversing the eastern margin of the Bohemian Massif, where a zone of anomalous induction seems to mark an important geological boundary of formations with different histories of development. The results of both analyses are found to coincide within reasonable bounds of 20–30% in the principal induction characteristics.

Summary The motion of particles in a turbulent flow is described by means of algebraic physics. The initial concepts are structurally ordered groupoids, algebras of observables, logically dependent on them, with couplings and the non-canonic transition between two Hamiltonians. The non-canonic transition leads to the substitution of time t by a new parameter. Its real counterpart gives the lower limit of the size of the time step in the differential equation of transfer, based on the semi-empirical image of turbulent diffusion.

Summary On the basis of the conservation of the Earth-Moon angular momentum, the period of the Earth's resonance rotation and Moon's revolution and the relation between tidal deceleration of the Earth's rotation and of the Moon's mean motion are derived theoretically. The comparison of the theoretical relation with the observed values indicates that a mechanism should exist which decreases the maximum principal moment of the Earth's inertia bydC/dt=–3.2×1029 kg· . m2 cy–1.

Summary The seismic response (the transfer properties) of a model consisting of two layers above a homogeneous halfspace, with curved interfaces and continuously laterally varying velocity within the layers is investigated assuming vertical plane SH-wave incidence from below. The frequency response and the synthetic seismograms are computed by the ray and matrix methods. The dependence of the seismic response on the prevailing frequencies of the incident wave, the role of the individual layers in forming the seismic response, as well as the effect of causal absorption are studied.
