We construct an explicit reversible symplectic integrator for the planar 3-body problem with zero angular momentum. We start with a Hamiltonian of the planar 3-body problem that is globally regularised and fully symmetry reduced. This Hamiltonian is a sum of 10 polynomials each of which can be integrated exactly, and hence a symplectic integrator is constructed. The performance of the integrator is examined with three numerical examples: The figure eight, the Pythagorean orbit, and a periodic collision orbit.  相似文献

We present a new set of variables for the reduction of the planetary n-body problem, associated to the angular momentum integral, which can be of any use for perturbation theory. The construction of these variables is performed in two steps. A first reduction, called partial is based only on the fixed direction of the angular momentum. The reduction can then be completed using the norm of the angular momentum. In fact, the partial reduction presents many advantages. In particular, we keep some symmetries in the equations of motion (d'Alembert relations). Moreover, in the reduced secular system, we can construct a Birkhoff normal form at any order. Finally, the topology of this problem remains the same as for the non-reduced system, contrarily to Jacobi's reduction where a singularity is present for zero inclinations. For three bodies, these reductions can be done in a very simple way in Poincaré's rectangular variables. In the general n-body case, the reduction can be performed up to a fixed degree in eccentricities and inclinations, using computer algebra expansions. As an example, we provide the truncated expressions for the change of variable in the 4-body case, obtained using the computer algebra system TRIP.  相似文献

Under perturbations from outer bodies, the Earth experiences changes of its angular momentum axis, figure axis and rotational axis. In the theory of the rigid Earth, in addition to the precession and nutation of the angular momentum axis given by the Poisson terms, both the figure axis and the rotational axis suffer forced deviation from the angular momentum axis. This deviation is expressed by the so-called Oppolzer terms describing separation of the averaged figure axis, called CIP (Celestial Intermediate Pole) or CEP (Celestial Ephemeris Pole), and the mathematically defined rotational axis, from the angular momentum axis. The CIP is the rotational axis in a frame subject to both precession and nutation, while the mathematical rotational axis is that in the inertial (non-rotating) frame. We investigate, kinematically, the origin of the separation between these two axes—both for the rigid Earth and an elastic Earth. In the case of an elastic Earth perturbed by the same outer bodies, there appear further deviations of the figure and rotational axes from the angular momentum axis. These deviations, though similar to the Oppolzer terms in the rigid Earth, are produced by quite a different physical mechanism. Analysing this mechanism, we derive an expression for the Oppolzer-like terms in an elastic Earth. From this expression we demonstrate that, under a certain approximation (in neglect of the motion of the perturbing outer bodies), the sum of the direct and convective perturbations of the spin axis coincides with the direct perturbation of the figure axis. This equality, which is approximate, gets violated when the motion of the outer bodies is taken into account.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the two-body problem of a spherical pseudo-rigid body and a rigid sphere. Due to the rotational and “re-labelling” symmetries, the system is shown to possess conservation of angular momentum and circulation. We follow a reduction procedure similar to that undertaken in the study of the two-body problem of a rigid body and a sphere so that the computed reduced non-canonical Hamiltonian takes a similar form. We then consider relative equilibria and show that the notions of locally central and planar equilibria coincide. Finally, we show that Riemann’s theorem on pseudo-rigid bodies has an extension to this system for planar relative equilibria.  相似文献

Gravity-gradient perturbations of the attitude motion of a tumbling tri-axial satellite are investigated. The satellite center of mass is considered to be in an elliptical orbit about a spherical planet and to be tumbling at a frequency much greater than orbital rate. In determining the unperturbed (free) motion of the satellite, a canonical form for the solution of the torque-free motion of a rigid body is obtained. By casting the gravity-gradient perturbing torque in terms of a perturbing Hamiltonian, the long-term changes in the rotational motion are derived. In particular, far from resonance, there are no long-period changes in the magnitude of the rotational angular momentum and rotational energy, and the rotational angular momentum vector precesses abound the orbital angular momentum vector. At resonance, a low-order commensurability exists between the polhode frequency and tumbling frequency. Near resonance, there may be small long-period fluctuations in the rotational energy and angular momentum magnitude. Moreover, the precession of the rotational angular momentum vector about the orbital angular momentum vector now contains substantial long-period contributions superimposed on the non-resonant precession rate. By averaging certain long-period elliptic functions, the mean value near resonance for the precession of the rotational angular momentum vector is obtained in terms of initial conditions.  相似文献

We calculate the direction of the rotational angular momentum vector,M, of comet 19P/Borrelly based on rotational lightcurve data from 2000, groundbased imaging of the coma during the Deep Space 1encounter, and the basic near-nucleus coma morphology as revealed by the Deep Space 1 spacecraft. For the most likely direction, we derivea family of solutions (with center at RA = 221°, Dec = -7°) if the direction of M is towards the sunward hemisphere during the Deep Space 1 encounter, whereas if the rotation is of opposite sense, the diametrically opposite family of solutions (with center at RA = 41°, Dec = 7°) would result. We argue that the coma morphology in September 2001 is consistent with the nucleus being a principal axis rotator or one observationally indistinguishable from it. Therefore, for all practical purposes, the direction of the rotational angular momentum vector coincides with the spin axis. We also discuss why the determination of the spin axis direction based on observations from the last apparition is in disagreement with the current result.  相似文献

We investigate the Cassini's laws which describe the rotational motion in a 1:1 spin-orbit resonance. When this rotational motion follows the conventional Cassini's laws, the figure axis coincides with the angular momentum axis. In this case we underline the differences between the rotational Hamiltonian for a 'slow rotating' body like the Moon and for a 'fast rotating' body like Phobos. Then, we study a more realistic rotational Hamiltonian where the angle J between the figure axis and the angular momentum axis could be different from zero. This Hamiltonian has not been studied before. We have found a new particular solution for this Hamiltonian which could be seen as an extension of the Cassini's laws. In this new solution the angle J is constant, which is not zero, and the precession of the angular momentum plane is equal to the mean motion of the argument of pericenter of the rotating body. This type of rotational motion is only possible when the orbital eccentricity of the rotating body is not zero. This new law enables describing in particular, the Moon mean rotational motion for which the mean value of the angle J is found to be equal to 103.9±0.7 s of arc.  相似文献

Two-integral distribution functions for axisymmetric systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Some formulae are presented for finding two-integral distribution functions (DFs) which depend only on the two classical integrals of the energy and the magnitude of the angular momentum with respect to the axis of symmetry for stellar systems with known axisymmetric densities. They come from a combination of the ideas of Eddington and Fricke and they are also an extension of those shown by Jiang and Ossipkov for finding anisotropic DFs for spherical galaxies. The density of the system is required to be expressed as a sum of products of functions of the potential and of the radial coordinate. The solution corresponding to this type of density is in turn a sum of products of functions of the energy and of the magnitude of the angular momentum about the axis of symmetry. The product of the density and its radial velocity dispersion can be also expressed as a sum of products of functions of the potential and of the radial coordinate. It can be further known that the density multiplied by its rotational velocity dispersion is equal to a sum of products of functions of the potential and of the radial coordinate minus the product of the density and the square of its mean rotational velocity. These formulae can be applied to the Binney and the Lynden-Bell models. An infinity of the odd DFs for the Binney model can be also found under the assumption of the laws of the rotational velocity.  相似文献

The problem triaxial satellite having a plane of dynamical symmetry in the restricted problem of three bodies has been studied. The first integrals are established and the general solution of the problem can be written in quadratures. The results show that the semi-major axis of the satellite orbit and its rotational angular momentum remain unchanged. The singular solution of this problem has been considered and the elements of satellite orbit can be determined.  相似文献

We apply the joint lensing and dynamics code for the analysis of early-type galaxies, 'Combined Algorithm for Unified Lensing and Dynamics ReconstructiON ( cauldron )', to a rotating N -body stellar system with dark matter halo which significantly violates the two major assumptions of the method, i.e. axial symmetry supported by a two-integral distribution function. The goal is to study how cauldron performs in an extreme case, and to determine which galaxy properties can still be robustly recovered. Three data sets, corresponding to orthogonal lines of sight, are generated from the N -body system and analysed with the identical procedure followed in the study of real lens galaxies, adopting an axisymmetric power-law total density distribution. We find that several global properties of the N -body system are recovered with remarkable accuracy, despite the fact that the adopted power-law model is too simple to account for the lack of symmetry of the true density distribution. In particular, the logarithmic slope of the total density distribution is robustly recovered to within less than 10 per cent (with the exception of the ill-constrained very inner regions), the inferred angle-averaged radial profile of the total mass closely follows the true distribution, and the dark matter fraction of the system (inside the effective radius) is correctly determined within ∼10 per cent of the total mass. Unless the line-of-sight direction is almost parallel to the total angular momentum vector of the system, reliably recovered quantities also include the angular momentum, the   V /σ  ratio and the anisotropy parameter δ. We conclude that the cauldron code can be safely and effectively applied to real early-type lens galaxies, also providing reliable information for the systems that depart significantly from the method's assumptions.  相似文献

The phenomenon of negative viscosity-alpha in convectively unstable Keplerian accretion discs is discussed. The convection is considered as a random flow with an axisymmetric mesoscale pattern. Its correlation tensor is computed with a time-averaging procedure using Kley's 2D hydrocode. There is a distinct anisotropy between the turbulence intensities in the radial and azimuthal directions, i.e. the radial velocity rms dominates the azimuthal one. As a consequence, an extra term in the expression for the turbulent transport of angular momentum appears which does not vanish for rigid rotation ('Λ-effect'). It is negative ('inwards transport') and even seems to dominate the positive contribution of the eddy viscosity representing outwards transport of angular momentum. For a turbulence model close to that of the mixing-length theory, the rotational influence on the anisotropy of the turbulence intensities,     , and the covariance  〈 u ' R u ' φ 〉  – representing the angular momentum transport – is computed and compared with the accretion disc simulations. Indeed, the negative angular momentum transport can be explained with the observed dominance of the radial turbulence intensity. If, on the other hand, in turbulence fields the azimuthal intensity would dominate or the turbulence is even isotropic, then we always find a positive transport of the angular momentum.  相似文献

Variational principles for relativistic smoothed particle hydrodynamics   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper we show how the equations of motion for the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method may be derived from a variational principle for both non-relativistic and relativistic motion when there is no dissipation. Because the SPH density is a function of the coordinates the derivation of the equations of motion through variational principles is simpler than in the continuum case where the density is defined through the continuity equation. In particular, the derivation of the general relativistic equations is more direct and simpler than that of Fock. The symmetry properties of the Lagrangian lead immediately to the familiar additive conservation laws of linear and angular momentum and energy. In addition, we show that there is an approximately conserved quantity which, in the continuum limit, is the circulation.  相似文献

In this paper we prove the existence of ring-type bounded motion in an isolated system consisting of a massive point particle and a homogeneous cube. We study the case of planar motion where the particle moves in a symmetry plane of the cube and we use a rotating frame of reference with its center at the mass center of the cube and its axes coinciding with the symmetry axes of the cube. We prove that, for negative values of the total energy and properly chosen values of the total angular momentum, the relative distance of the bodies has an upper and a lower bound-i.e., the regions of possible motion lie inside an annulus around the cube (motion inside a ring or an island).  相似文献

Small levels of turbulence can be present in stellar radiative interiors due to, e.g., the instability of rotational shear. In this paper we estimate turbulent transport coefficients for stably stratified rotating stellar radiation zones. Stable stratification induces strong anisotropy with a very small ratio of radial‐to‐horizontal turbulence intensities. Angular momentum is transported mainly due to the correlation between azimuthal and radial turbulent motions induced by the Coriolis force. This non‐diffusive transport known as the Λ‐effect has outward direction in radius and is much more efficient compared to the effect of radial eddy viscosity. Chemical species are transported by small radial diffusion only. This result is confirmed using direct numerical simulations combined with the test‐scalar method. As a consequence of the non‐diffusive transport of angular momentum, the estimated characteristic time of rotational coupling (≲100 Myr) between radiative core and convective envelope in young solar‐type stars is much shorter compared to the time‐scale of Lithium depletion (∼1 Gyr) (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The energetics and dynamics of contact binary asteroids as they approach and pass the rotational fission limit is studied. We presume that the asteroids are subject to an external torque, such as from the YORP effect, that increases their angular momentum. Furthermore, we assume the asteroids can be described by a fairly minimal model comprised of a sphere and ellipsoid resting on each other. The minimum energy configurations for contact binary asteroids at different levels of angular momentum are computed and discussed. We find distinct transitions between different configurations as the angular momentum of the system is increased. These indicate that rapidly rotating contact binary asteroids may seek out clearly different relative configurations than slowly rotating systems. We find a single end state of the systems prior to rotational fission, and distinct dynamical outcomes as a function of mass distribution and shape when the rotational fission limit is exceeded. Our theoretical results agree qualitatively with observed properties of near-Earth asteroids, and can be used to help explain the spin-rate barrier, contact binaries, and the observed morphology of most NEO binaries.  相似文献

A procedure is outlined for a conservative system which makes it possible to go from a Lagrangian of a librating system to the corresponding equations of motion in the Eulerian form. The transition does not require a choice of rotational coordinates and makes use of angular velocities and direction cosines directly. The procedure thus synthesizes attractive features of two classical approaches and has far reaching consequences: it is particularly useful in formulating equations of motion for complex flexible systems of contemporary interest. For the case of a satellite with two flexible plate-type appendages, for example, the approach reduced the formulation time to one-third. The basic mathematical concepts are briefly touched upon in the beginning which help explain the subsequent development.  相似文献

Quaternions and the rotation of a rigid body   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The orientation of an arbitrary rigid body is specified in terms of a quaternion based upon a set of four Euler parameters. A corresponding set of four generalized angular momentum variables is derived (another quaternion) and then used to replace the usual three-component angular velocity vector to specify the rate by which the orientation of the body with respect to an inertial frame changes. The use of these two quaternions, coordinates and conjugate moments, naturally leads to a formulation of rigid-body rotational dynamics in terms of a system of eight coupled first-order differential equations involving the four Euler parameters and the four conjugate momenta. The equations are formally simple, easy to handle and free of singularities. Furthermore, integration is fast, since only arithmetic operations are involved.  相似文献

We investigate the feasibility of using the Lense-Thirring effect to measure the rotational angular momentum of Jupiter and the Sun. This experiment uses gyroscopes in close Jovian and solar orbits. It is important because it provides direct, unique information. The angular momentum is not derivable from the gravitational moments when non-uniform rotation is present. Analysis shows that this experiment could be done around Jupiter with current technology, but could not be done around the Sun for some years.Supported in part, by a Dissertation Research Assistantship of the Graduate College, Iowa State University.  相似文献

We describe in this work a thorough study of the physical and orbital characteristics of extensively observed main-belt and trojan binaries, mainly taken from the LAOSA (Large Adaptive Optics Survey of Asteroids [Marchis, F., Baek, M., Berthier, J., Descamps, P., Hestroffer, D., Kaasalainen, M., Vachier, F., 2006c. In: Workshop on Spacecraft Reconnaissance of Asteroid and Comet Interiors. Abstract #3042]) database, along with a selection of bifurcated objects. Dimensionless quantities, such as the specific angular momentum and the scaled primary spin rate, are computed and discussed for each system. They suggest that these asteroidal systems might be the outcome of rotational fission or mass shedding of a parent body presumably subjected to an external torque. One of the most striking features of separated binaries composed of a large primary (Rp>100 km) with a much smaller secondary (Rs<20 km) is that they all have total angular momentum of ∼0.27. This value is quite close to the Maclaurin-Jacobi bifurcation (0.308) of a spinning fluid body. Alternatively, contact binaries and tidally locked double asteroids, made of components of similar size, have an angular momentum larger than 0.48. They compare successfully with the fission equilibrium sequence of a rotating fluid mass. In conclusion, we find that total angular momentum is a useful proxy to assess the internal structure of such systems.  相似文献
