The paper is concerned with the study of the effect of the randomness of material parameters on mean wave propagation in a semi-infinite viscoelastic medium. The medium considered in this paper is a configuration of a randomly non-homogeneous layer overlying a homogeneous half-space and is loaded harmonically on the top surface. The method used is that of Karal and Keller and is based on the idea of fundamental matrix and Bourret approximation. The integro-differential equation obtained in this paper is solved by the Laplace transform method. By using boundary and continuity conditions the mean wave solution is obtained. Numerical results show that the correlation functions, which introduce long-range interactions, can be the source of the wave amplification.  相似文献

Summary The effects of anisotropy and inhomogeneity on the propagation of Love waves in a sedimentary layer, overlying the inhomogeneous and transversely isotropic half space, are studied in this paper. The results of numerical analysis show an appreciable variation of phase- and group-velocity of Love waves in low frequency region compared to high frequency region due to the presence of transverse isotropy and inhomogeneity in the half space. The higher values for phase velocity are found for the increasing values of anisotropy factor as well as for the greater power of density variation. However, the presence of higher anisotropy factor and inhomogeneity in the half space reduce group velocity considerably in the lower frequency region.  相似文献

We present a unified formulation of an analytical method for evaluating the response of a random soil medium to surface or earthquake excitations. Specifically, we are interested in this study to the case of a horizontally stratified layered soil profile. Soil properties, mass density and shear modulus of each layer are modeled as spatial random fields. The soil profile is laying on a homogeneous half-space. Integro-differential equations are formulated and solved using the Laplace transform method. Numerical results are, firstly, obtained in terms of effects of soil properties on distributions of mean dimensionless displacement and stress with depth. Then, the amplification function of the surface layer of a soil profile is formulated and a parametric study is conducted to examine the effects of stochastic variations of mass density and shear modulus on the amplification function. We, lastly, computed the seismic response of a site located in the basin of Metidja in Algeria to base rock accelerations which were recorded at Keddara's station during the May 21, 2003 Boumerdes earthquake, in terms of free surface Fourier spectrum amplitudes and accelerations. Comparison between computed accelerations and recorded ones at Dar Elbeida site has proved the effectiveness of the approach.  相似文献

The intensity of shear waves in the model of a multilayered stratum, the material properties of which are random functions, is considered. The solutions for displacements and stresses are obtained for one layer and then the formulation is extended to a multilayered stratum through transfer matrices. The solution for a random medium has been compared with the solution for the homogeneous medium. The analysis indicates that the stochastic inhomogeneities are likely to increase the damping in a significant way.  相似文献

In this paper the possibility of detecting a semi-insulating layer in a homogeneous half-space model of the earth is examined using VHF electromagnetic waves (30–300 MHz). The scheme is to employ an obliquely incident TM (transverse magnetic) plane wave. The corresponding TM reflection coefficient in the vicinity of the Brewster angle null is then considered for possible clues. It is shown that when the host medium is not excessively lossy, the TM reflection coefficient shows significant deviation from the homogeneous half-space case. The measurement and interpretation have possible relevance to the detection of liquid hazardous waste layers at depth.  相似文献

Summary The problem of a transition layer lying between two homogeneous liquid media is discussed. After obtaining the formal solution for a periodic point source lying in the upper layer, the integrand in the expression for the displacement potential of the upper layer is expanded into series of negative powers of exponentials. Some of the terms in the Bromwich expansion are then evaluated along the Sommerfeld loops which give various reflected and refracted waves. The results for the refracted waves are discussed for the two extreme cases, when frequency is extremely low and extremely high. In both the cases it is found that the frequency dependence for refraction arrivals is the same as expected from a sharp boundary, viz., –1. And that for high frequency the travel-time of refraction arrivals is the same as expected from geometric ray theory. Both first- order and second-order discontinuities in density and bulk modulus are considered at the boundaries of the transition layer.  相似文献

本文在各向同性介质假设下,计算了薄层顶、底反射P波和PS波的理论地震图.理论模拟发现薄层的反射P波与PS波是一复合波,包括层内的多次透射和反射转换波型,且具有类似单一界面反射的、脉冲式的波形特征.两类薄层反射整体振幅随着薄层厚度的降低而缩小;在地震子波主频40 Hz条件下,2 m左右厚度的薄层反射相比单一界面反射具有等同的振幅水平.1 m以下极薄层仅有弱反射甚至无反射;薄层反射复合波振幅与炮检距的关系依然成立,但不惟一;单界面反射AVO原理、方法不适用于薄层反射解释与反演.  相似文献

Summary The article first describes in chronological order the observations on the propagation of radio waves during the solar eclipses, and the development of the conflicting results on the similar transmissions of radio signals. The general theory of the absorption of radio waves in the ionosphere is briefly described and therefrom a method is derived to estimate the variation of the absorption of obliquely incident radio waves during a solar eclipse.The variation of field-strength can be studied in terms of the relationship between the vertical incident equivalent frequency of the signals and the critical frequencies of the ionospheric layers at the regions of reflection. The total absorption of radio waves consists of the non-deviative absorption in theD region and the deviative absorption in the higher layers of the ionosphere. During the eclipse, theD region absorption decreases in phase with the progress of the eclipse, but the variation of deviative absorption may differ in each observation. The deviative absorption is large when the equivalent frequency is close to the critical frequency of the layer reflecting the waves or of the layer just penetrated by the waves. The changes in the deviative absorption during an eclipse can be estimated on the basis of the variation of the critical frequencies of the ionospheric layers. The resultant changes in the total absorption during a solar eclipse may thus be estimated. The different types of field strength variation expected during an eclipse are given.The observations of the vertical incident absorption of radio waves and the field strength variations of obliquely incident continuous wave radio signals during the solar eclipse are described and the changes are explained on the basis of the above theory.  相似文献

The generation of SH-type waves due to sudden application of a stress discontinuity which moves after creation at the sandy layer of finite thickness overlying an isotropic and inhomogeneous elastic half-space is considered. The displacements are obtained in exact form by the method due to Cagniard modified by De Hoop. The numerical calculations are obtained. Two cases of shearing stress discontinuities are considered for different sandiness parameters. The graphs are drawn to show the effect of sandiness in the displacement components.  相似文献

Summary The diffraction of a pressure wave arising from the edge of the floating ice due to an incident wave of the formH[t–(xcos/)+ (ysin/)], whereH(t) is the Heaviside step function, has been studied. The ice sheet has been taken to be moving with a velocity much less than the velocity of sound in the liquid. The problem has been solved using an approximate method of solving Wiener Hopf problems. Finally, the pressure field at a large distance from the edge has been derived in a closed form evaluating the integrals by the saddle point method.  相似文献

A three-dimensional ultrasonic modelling was used to study the Rayleigh waves reflected from a thin low velocity vertical layer and those transmitted through the same zone. The reflection and transmission coefficients of the Rayleigh waves have been calculated by an approximate method based on the Green function technique. Nonrigid contact boundary conditions were used for the low velocity layer modelling. A rather good correspondence between the theoretical and experimental absolute values of the reflection and the transmission coefficients was obtained. Some discrepancies between experimental and theoretical results, in particular with regard to phase shifts, may be explained by a certain inadequacy of the theoretical model to the low velocity layer investigated by the ultrasonic modelling.  相似文献

We theoretically study the scattering ofP, SV andSH waves by a zonal distribution of cracks, which simulates a fault fracture zone. An investigation is conducted how the geometrical properties of the crack distribution and the frictional characteristics of the crack surface are reflected in the attenuation and dispersion of incident waves, as well as in the amplitudes of the transmitted and reflected waves from the zone. If the crack distribution within the fault zone changes temporally during the preparation process of the expected earthquake, it will be important for earthquake prediction to monitor it, utilizing the scattering-induced wave phenomena.We consider the two-dimensional problem. Aligned cracks with the same length are assumed to be randomly distributed in a zone with a finite width, on which elastic waves are assumed to be incident. The distribution of cracks is assumed to be homogeneous and sparse. The crack surface is assumed to be stress-free, or to undergo viscous friction; the latter case simulates fluid-filled cracks. The opening displacement of the crack is assumed to be negligibly small. The idea of the mean wave formalism is employed in the analysis, and Foldy's approximation is assumed.When the crack surface is stress-free, it is commonly observed for every wave mode (P, SV andSH) that the attenuation coefficientQ –1 peaks aroundka1, the phase velocity is almost independent ofk in the rangeka<1 and it increases monotonically withk in the rangeka>1, wherek is the intrinsicS wavenumber anda is the half length of the crack. The effect of the friction is to shift the peak ofQ –1 and the corner of the phase velocity curve to the low wavenumber range. The high wavenumber asymptote ofQ –1 is proportional tok –1 independently of model parameters and the wave modes. If the seismological observation thatQ –1 ofS waves has a peak at around 0.5 Hz in the earth's crust is combined with our results, the upper limit of crack size within the crust is estimated about 4 km. The information regarding the transmitted and reflected waves, such as the high wavenumber limit of the amplitude of the transmitted wave etc., allows estimation of the strength of the friction.  相似文献

利用电磁波在导电媒质界面反射系数的附加相角,导出了电场垂直于入射面的非均匀电磁波在导电介质界面的类全反射横向偏移,并对横向偏移进行了相关计算,绘出了横向偏移随入射角的变化曲线. 结果表明:入射角在相移常数临界角、衰减常数临界角和90°处,横向偏移曲线存在三个间断点. 当入射角等于这三个角时,横向偏移为无穷大,即电磁波将沿界面传播;当入射角在这三个角附近时,横向偏移变得非常大.  相似文献

Summary The problem of a transiton layer lying between two homogeneous liquid media has been discussed in a previous paper. There, some of the terms in the integrands in the expressions for the displacement potentials due to a periodic point source, lying in the upper layer, have been evaluated along the Sommerfeld loops. Both first order and second order discontinuities in density and bulk modulus at the boundaries of the transition layer have been considered. In the present paper, the integrals for the displacement potentials have been evaluated by the method of stationary phase and the results obtained are compared with those obtained previously. Also the first order discontinuities in density and velocity at the two ends of the transition layer are removed and the work is extended to an explosion type pulse. It is found that for a pulse source, the decrease with distance is the same as for a periodic point source. Also the frequency dependence for the refraction arrivals, when frequency is extremely high, is 1/3 as compared to –1 in the case when there are discontinuities at the boundaries of the transition layer.  相似文献

浅层地震反射波法和面波方法是两种相互独立发展的地震勘探方法,在各自的数据采集和处理中,对方都是作为干扰信号而存在. 本文利用浅层地震反射资料中被视为干扰的面波信号,通过成熟的多道面波勘探技术处理浅层地震反射资料,在频率-波数域中提取多阶振型面波的频散曲线,并基于该曲线反演浅地表S波速度结构. 这种方法充分开发利用了已有数据,无需单独的面波数据采集系统,同时为解释浅层地震反射资料提供了额外的信息约束. 结果表明:浅层地震反射资料中可提取出可靠的多阶振型面波频散曲线,并能给出稳定的反演结果,同时,面波反演的多解性可以通过高阶振型反演得以进一步约束;低速层的存在是观测频散曲线出现振型跳跃或呈“之”字形回折的必要条件而非充分条件.   相似文献

Summary In this paper the modified formula for scattering cross-section of radio waves from the ionosphere has been deduced in presence of time-varying random irregularities. The anisotropic behaviour of the medium which arises due to the presence of the geomagnetic field along with the time-varying irregularities of the medium has been considered. The derived expression for the dielectric tensor for the above medium has been utilised to obtain the required cross-section. The latitude, altitude, azimuth and polarisation angle dependence of scattering of radio waves from the ionosphere has been shown. The evaluated formula may be verified experimentally and the importance of the geomagnetic field and irregularities may then be analysed.  相似文献

The paper presents a study of time-harmonic surface waves in a linearly inhomogeneous half-space. The study is based on the solution of that problem for an arbitrary (from 0 to 1/2) value of Poisson's ratio. Vertical vibrations due to a vertical harmonic force, which at large distances from the force represent Rayleigh-type waves, and transverse horizontal vibrations due to a horizontal force, which at large distances form waves of Love's type, are considered in detail. Material damping is taken into consideration. Inhomogeneity significantly affects relationships connecting wave characteristics and the frequency of vibration, and it is shown in the paper how this fact can be used for determining material properties (surface shear modulus, degree of inhomogeneity, damping ratio) with the help of experimental results concerning wave propagation over the surface of the half-space. It is shown that for forced waves the relationship between the wave phase angle and distance can significantly differ from a straight line, i.e. the wave number varies with distance. Therefore, it is desirable to relate experimental and theoretical results to such parts of wave propagation line, which correspond to same phase angle intervals. Complex function and general conformal mapping methods are used to investigate the scattering of elastic shear waves by an elliptical cylindrical cavity in a radially inhomogeneous medium. The conformal mappings are introduced to solve scattering by an arbitrary cavity for the Helmholtz equation with variable coefficient through the transformed standard Helmholtz equation with a circular cavity. The medium density depends on the distance from the origin with a power-law variation and the shear elastic modulus is constant. The complex-value displacements and stresses of the inhomogeneous medium are explicitly obtained and the distributions of the dynamic stress for the case of an elliptical cavity are discussed. The accuracy of the present approach is verified by comparing the present solution results with the available published data. Numerical results demonstrate that the wave number, inhomogeneous parameters and different values of aspect ratio have significant influence on the dynamic stress concentration factors around the elliptical cavity.  相似文献

以分层半空间内部含有一层孔隙介质为物理模型进行数值计算,研究半空间表面瑞利波的传播和衰减特性.为更加接近实际,结合瑞利波的激发特性,确定了瑞利波的主衰减曲线,并主要以此进行规律分析.针对速度递增和含低速层这两种典型的地质模型,讨论了瑞利波的传播衰减在不同地质模型下的特性,并分析了各自的规律.结果表明,在这两种模型下瑞利波的主衰减曲线都受孔隙介质所处空间位置影响产生比较明显的变化,但衰减系数极大值对应的波长与模型的表层厚度存在较明显的线性对应关系,利用这一关系,可以在实际勘探中快速得到表层介质厚度.另外,通过对比分析还可以看到,瑞利波主衰减曲线随孔隙介质的孔隙度和渗透率的变化都强于主频散曲线的变化,表明衰减曲线对孔隙度和渗透率的变化更加敏感,理论上更加适合进行介质参数反演工作.综合对比结果,我们认为瑞利波主衰减曲线中包含了更丰富的介质参数信息,如果能够有效利用,将可以提高瑞利波勘探的准确性和应用范围.
