We present observations and light curve analysis of the eclipsing binary R CMa in the narrow band filters v and b. Observations were made during 1993 at Biruni Observatory and the light curves have been analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney light curve interpretation program. Assuming a semi-detached configuration for R CMa, the parameters i, Ω1, L 1, T 2 and A 2 were adjusted for the best fit between the synthesized light curves and observations. Both light curves were fitted well with a lower value of bolometric albedo than what would be expected for a normal cool star with a convective envelope. The masses of the primary and secondary components and the absolute dimensions of the stars have been calculated using the derived relative dimensions from Wilson-Devinney codes and the spectroscopic observations.  相似文献

A new method has been developed by Kopal (1977c, Paper XII) to make use of expressions for the fractional loss of light 0 l of the arbitrarily limb-darkened stars in the form of Hankel transforms of zero-order, in order to evaluate the explicit forms of the 0 l s for different types of eclipse, as well as of the momentsA 2m of the respective light curves in a closed form. The automated method has been tested successfully on the light curves of RT Persei. Also, a photometric curve fit of RT Persei is investigated by application of numerical quadratures to determine the theoretical light curve appropriate for the Roche model. DifferentialUBV(RI) KC andUBVRI photometry of the RS CVn binary EI Eridani obtained during December 1987 and January 1988 at fourteen different observatories is presented. A combined visual bandpass light curve, corrected for systematic errors of different observatories, utilizes the photometric period of 1.945 days to produce useful results. Analysis shows the visual light curve to have twin maxima, separated by about 0.4 phase, and a full amplitude of approximately 0.06 mag for the period of observation, a smaller amplitude than reported in the past. The decrease in amplitude may be due to a decrease or homogenization of spot coverage. To fit the asymmetrical light curve, a starspot model would have to employ at least two spotted regions separated in longitude.  相似文献

Nova light curves, plotted on “outburst amplitude-logarithm of main shell radius” axes, have differences that can be systematized. As a result of a survey of over 90 novae, nova groups that are typical in light curve shape have been distinguished: DQ Her, CP Pup, RR Pic, PU Vul, V1974 Cyg, CP Lac, and GQ Mus. The light curve criterion is supplemented by other characteristics. The DQ Her group includes only novae having dust formation in the ejected shell. The GQ Mus group combines certain novae with smooth light curves that are separated into several subgroups with respect to outburst amplitude and the duration of the light curve section before the transitional stage, but for which the linear section of the light curve has the same slope. Observations are presented of the isolated dwarf irregular galaxy And IV made with the Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope in the 21 cm HI line. We determine the galaxy distance of 7.17 ± 0.31 Mpc using the Tip of Red Giant Branch method. The galaxy has a total blue absolute magnitude of –12.81 mag, linear Holmberg diameter of 1.88 kpc, and an HI ‐disk extending to 8.4 times the optical Holmberg radius. The HI massto‐blue luminosity ratio for And IV amounts 12.9 M/L. From the GMRT data we derive the rotation curve for the HI and fit it with different mass models. We find that the data are significantly better fit with an iso‐thermal dark matter halo, than by an NFW halo. We also find that MOND rotation curve provides a very poor fit to the data. The fact that the isothermal dark matter halo provides the best fit to the data supports models in which star formation feedback results in the formation of a dark matter core in dwarf galaxies. The total mass‐to‐blue luminosity ratio of 162 M/L makes And IV among the darkest dIrr galaxies known. Differential BV photometry of the K0III+K0III long-period RS CVn-type binary DK Dra=HR 4665 in 1977, 1978, 1979, and 1980 at eight different observatories is presented. A least squares fit to times of maximum and minimum light yields the ephemeris JD=2 443 219.5+63 . d 75E for times of minimum. This photometric period is 1% shorter than the spectroscopically determined orbital period 64 . d 44. The light curve was symmetrical and roughly sinusoidal in 1979 and 1980 but was asymmetrical in 1977 and 1978, with a faster rise to maximum. An investigation of the outburst of the unique supernova SN 1961v in the galaxy NGC 1058 is carried out. An analysis of hydrodynamic models of supernova outbursts and a comparison with a considerable body of observational data on SN 1961v clearly show that the SN 1961v phenomenon is an explosion of a very massive star (VMS) of a mass of 2000M and a radius of about 100R which results in expelling the envelope with a kinetic energy of 1.8×1052 erg. The light curve of SN 1961v (Figures 1, 7a, and 7b) furnishes direct evidence for the heterogeneity of the presupernova interior. The chemical composition profile produced during the evolution of the VMS and in the final explosion must have a number of the essential features (Figure 11). In particular, hydrogen has to be underabundant relative to the solar content and distributed in a specific manner throughout the star. At the late stages from February, 1963 to February, 1967, the light curve of SN 1961v (Figure 1) may be accounted for by the interaction of the expelled envelope with the stellar wind of the presupernova. The latest observations of SN 1961v in 1968 and 1970 are virtually those of a giantHii region created by the VMS before the explosion. Two astrophysical phenomena-the peculiar outburst of SN 1961v and the most luminous object R136a in the Large Magellacnic Cloud (LMC) which reveals a striking similarity with the presupernova-are evidence for the existence of VMSs. The evolution of VMSs similar to the object R136a may be terminated by explosions like the outburst of SN 1961v. Such explosions give rise to the formation of energetic supernova remnants whose examples may be the Cygnus superbubble and the supergiant shells in the LMC. A comparison of the internal structure of the presupernova with the available evolutionary calculations allows one to conclude that the influence of mass loss on the evolution of VMSs is negligible.  相似文献

We present new photometric observations of 15 symbiotic stars covering their last orbital cycle(s) from 2003.9 to 2007.2. We obtained our data by both classical photoelectric and CCD photometry. Main results are: EG And brightened by ∼0.3 mag in U from 2003. A ∼0.5 mag deep primary minimum developed in the U light curve (LC) at the end of 2006. ZAnd continues its recent activity that began during the 2000 autumn. A new small outburst started in summer of 2004 with a peak U magnitude of ∼ 9.2. During the spring of 2006 the star entered a massive outburst. It reached its historical maximum at U ∼ 8.0 in 2006 July. AEAra erupted in 2006 February with Δmvis ∼ 1.2 mag. BF Cyg entered a new active stage in 2006 August. A brightness maximum (U ∼ 9.4) was measured during 2006 September. CH Cyg persists in a quiescent phase. The time evolution behaviour of the superhumps of the dwarf nova1RXS J232953.9+ 062814 is investigated with the wavelet analysis method. On the basis of two nights CCD photometry performed during its first superoutburst as well as other published brightness data, we reveal the superhump's time-dependence as a function of periods and time. Our light curves, which phased in the rapid decay ending portion of the superoutburst and in the dawn of a following normal outburst, are important to help trace the superhump evolution for the star. Both the superhump period and the orbital period of the binary system are detected in the present data. We obtain P sh=0.0458±0.0002d and P orb=0.0450±0.0002d. They agree with those existing values. The two periods exchanged their roles during the superhump evolution. The general profile of brightness fading over the outbursts roughly followed an exponential decay law or a form of a five-order polynomial. A review of light curves of known x-ray novae made it possible to identify criteria by which x-ray nova candidates were selected among old novae: amplitude of optical outburst 7–10 m, shape of light curve during the outburst with a temporary fading by 2–3m lasting up to four days and an abrupt final fading from the 6m level (relative to the quiet state). We identified LS And, AL Com, V592 Her, and HV Vir as x-ray nova candidates. Recurrent outbursts should be expected for the first and third stars. Less reliable candidates are V341 Nor, V787 Sgr, and V719 Sco. A possible recurrent nova candidate may be V1330 Cyg. We present here the photometric light curve analyses of the eclipsing binary star DN Aur. The CCD photometry, performed at the Behlen observatory using the 0.76 m automated telescope gave 646 individual data points inV andR bandpass filters. From this data we have determined a new epoch and an orbital period of 0.6168891 days. The published spectral classification is F3.The Wilson-Devinney model was used to derive the photometric solutions. DN Aur is a W UMa type contact binary system. The mass ratio, (q=m 2/m 10.210, where star 2 is eclipsed at the primary minimum) suggests that the system has A-type configuration. The computed light curve has a third light of about 22 percent and a total eclipse in the secondary minimum. A solution with a cool spot on the secondary component is also found. We recommend spectroscopic study of DN Aur even though the light curve analysis show it to be a single line spectroscopic system. Generally contact systems of spectral type F3 have periods ranging from 0.25 to 0.5 days. The longer period of DN Aur suggests that it is an evolved contact system with case A mass transfer.  相似文献

Comet outburst activity and the structure of solar wind streams were compared on the basis of Pioneer 10, 11, Vela 3 and IMP 7, 8 measurements at the heliocentric distance r ≈ 1–6 AU. It is shown that the solar wind velocity waves which are evolving into corotating shock waves beyond the Earth orbit may be responsible for comet outburst activity. The correlation between variations of comet outburst activity with heliocentric distance and the behavior of the solar wind velocity waves is established. The closeness of the characteristic times for the velocity waves and comet outburst activity (7–8 days at r = 1 AU) as well as the simultaneous growth of both the characteristic times with r are noted. The observed distribution of the comet outburst activity parameters during the 11-year cycle is also in good agreement with the phase distributions during the 11-year cycle of variations of the coronal hole areas and the rate of change of the sunspot area δS p.  相似文献

HD 165590 is a visual binary (dG0 + dG5,P = 20 . y 25,e = 0.96) whoseA component is an SB1 double (dG5 + dM:P = 0 . d 88,e0.0). TheA pair (Aa +Ab) undergoes partial eclipses. PhotoelectricUBV photometry from Lines and one of the Automatic Photoelectric Telescopes, andV photometry from Scarfe are examined here. The data are from the 1977, 1984, 1985, and 1986 observing seasons. The non-eclipse light variations are analyzed with a FORTRAN program which does a sinusoidal curve fitvia least squares repeatedly to obtain the best period. Periods found from each observing season and passband are consistent with Boydet al. (1985): the greatest variations seem to be produced by a rotating (0 . d 88), spotted, G0 star (theAa component). To the residuals from the first analysis a further curve fit is made to determine characteristics of the wave due to the ellipticity effect. An early limit on the spectral type of the unseenAb component, based on the primary eclpse depth and the upper limit on the depth of the unseen secondary eclipse, is K2. Eclipse depths and widths seen here suggest that theA pair's inclination = 74 . 0 9 ± 10, close to theA +B inclination of 82 . 0 7 ± 20 (Battenet al., 1979). TheA pair's orbital period does not appear to vary, appearing instead to be well-described by a new linear ephemeris (Hel. J.D. = 2443665.4568 + 0 . d 8795045E) which does, however, take into account a variable light-travel-times as theA component orbits theA +B center of mass with a 20 . y 25 period. The maximum light-travel-time O-C thus produced is + /–8 . m 4 = + /–0 . d 0059.  相似文献

We present the first long‐term Johnson UBVR observations and comprehensive photometric analysis of the W UMa‐type eclipsing binary V2612 Oph. Observations in the time interval between 2003 and 2009 enabled us to reveal the seasonal and long‐term variations of the light curve. Hence, we found that the mean brightness level of the light curve shows a variation with a period of 6.7 years. Maximum and minimum brightness levels of the light curve exhibit a variation from year to year which we attribute to a solar‐like activity. The OC variation of eclipse timings of the system shows a decreasing parabolic trend and reveals a period decrease at a rate of P = 6.27×10‐7 day yr‐1 with an additional low‐amplitude sinusoidal variation that has a similar period as the long‐term brightness variations. Our light curve analysis shows that the system is a W‐subtype W UMa eclipsing binary. We calculated masses and radii of the primary and secondary components as M1 = 1.28 M, M2 = 0.37 M and R1 = 1.31 R, R2 = 0.75 R, respectively. The derived absolute photometric parameters allow us to calculate a distance of 140 pc, which confirms that the system is a foreground star in the sky field of the Galactic open cluster NGC 6633. V andB light curves for supernova 1987A covering some 120 days from the outburst are here presented and discussed; they are shown to be rather atypical for a type II supernova. The absolute magnitude at maximum brightness is also analyzed, and after applying a correction for interstellar absorption we obtainM V, max, 0 =–16.1, andM B, max, 0 =–14.7; is is then concluded that 1987A is a supernova quite fainter than average. A comparison with other known supernova is made and some similarity is found with peculiar objects such as 1948B in NGC 6946, and probably, 1909 A in M 101.Research supported in part by SECyT and CONICOR.  相似文献

UBV observations of the X-ray binary system A0535+26/V725 Tau at the Crimean Station of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute in 1980–1998 are presented. Based on our and published data, we analyze the photometric history of the star from 1898. Over a period of 100 years, the star apparently showed all three activity phases (B, Be, Be-shell) of Be stars. We conclude that the X-ray activity of the object is attributable to the 1970–1997 outburst of the Be star due to envelope ejection. The star's colors during the minimum light of 1998 and its 1953–1956 colors (before the outburst) correspond to the spectral type B0–B1 at the color excesses E B-V = 0.74 and E U-B = 0.48, in agreement with the current spectral type O9.7. The minimum light of 1998 and the color excesses are used to determine the colors of the additional radiation, analyze their evolution during the 1973–1997 outburst, and refine the distance to the object (3 kpc). The colors of the additional radiation at maximum light of the star (1973–1980) match the colors of a hydrogen plasma with T e = 1.5 × 104 K which is optically thick in the Balmer continuum. The brightness decline corresponds to a decrease in the optical depth of the plasma; at $V \simeq 9_.^m 1$ , it becomes optically thin in the Balmer continuum with T e = 104 K and N e = 1010 ? 1012 cm?3. This conclusion is consistent with the model of a circumstellar envelope but is inconsistent with the existence of an accretion disk around the neutron star. All the additional radiation responsible for the optical variability is produced by a single source. The intensity of the Hα emission line at maximum light (1975–1980) is triple its intensity in 1987–1997, when quasi-periodic light fluctuations with P ≈ 1400d were observed [1]. At this time, the line intensity correlated with brightness. The Hα line was in absorption at the minimum of 1998, and, at present, the star's active phase appears to have ended.  相似文献

We present a relatively completeV-band light curve of SZ Psc for 1978 and a partial light curve for 1977. From the 1978 light curve we derive a new time of primary minimum, JD2443823.674±0.001, and a Russell-model solution,i=75°.8±0°.1,r h =0.096±0.003,r c =0.351±0.001, andL h =0.253±0.002. The hotter component of this system is a F5-8 main-sequence star, the cooler component a K3-4 star well above the main sequence. The system is detached with the larger component filling only 82% of its Roche lobe. The distortion wave in this RS CVn-type binary seems not to migrate regularly as do those in many other such systems, but rather seems to change phase and amplitude more erratically. Between 1977 and 1978 its phase stayed practically constant while its amplitude decreased by a factor of three. We discuss the implications of this behavior for the spot model of RS CVn-type activity. We find that the traditional comparison star for SZ Psc, HD 219018, is very likely a constant star contrary to a recent suggestion that it is variable. A part of the light curves of two detached (CD Tau and V909 Cyg) and one semi-detached (Algol) binaries have been analysed with the emphasis on the determinacy of the parameters of different systems from a part of their eclipse curves. A model light curve for whichr 1=0.050,r 2=0.150,i=90°, andL 1=0.800 were chosen, has also been considered for a further clarification of the determinacy problem of the eclipse parameters. Some insight into the determinacy is gained by varying one parameter and adjusting the others for the best fit to the light curves in the considered eclipse phases. It was realised that the determinacy problem of the unknown parameters is stored in the determinacy of the type of the eclipse minima. The attempts of the solutions with a false choice of initial elements result in finding (i) no minimum of 2 to give any acceptable solution, (ii) rapid departure from the false start and convergence on the correct solution, or (iii) a false solution mostly with a true inclinationi, but wrong sense of the ratio of the radii.  相似文献

CCD (V) light curve of the EW‐type eclipsing variable DF CVn was obtained during seven nights in April–May, 2004. With our data we were able to determine 4 new times of minimum light. The light curve appears to exhibit a typical O'Connell effect, with Maximum I brighter than Maximum II by 0.013 mag. in V. TwoWilson‐Devinney (WD) code working sessions, using the V light curve, were done with and without spots. The analysis of the results shows that the best fit was obtained with the spotted solution and indicates contact geometry. The photometric mass ratio of the system is found to be q = 0.347 and its inclination i = 72°, the primary minimum shows a transit. The star may be classified as an A‐type W Uma system. Assuming a reasonable value for the mass of the primary component an estimate of the absolute elements of DF CVn has been made, with the assumption that the primary has a mass corresponding to its spectral type according to Straizys and Kuriliene (1981). We analyze observations of Comet IRAS-Araki-Alcock taken on 1983 May 10 to determine the spatial molecular abundance of C2 in the inner coma via the Δν = +1 Swan band sequence near 4690 Å; total molecular abundance for C2 is ~6 × 1027 molecules across a projected linear diameter of ~9700 km centered on the nucleus. These observations show a deficiency of C2 emission across a projected diameter of ~2000 km centered on the peak of continuum emission. Comet imagery reveals a sunward-pointing coma suggestive of an outburst of subsurface volatile ices through a nonvolatile surface crust as predicted for periodic comets. Moreover, such imagery suggests that Haser model scale lengths for C2 and its parent molecule, as derived from our observations, do not fit the data very well. Our results are discussed in terms of the then-developing instrument and observational constraints which applied at the time.  相似文献
