Consideration is given to a search for relativistic objects in massive close binary systems without strong X-ray emission (L x <1034 erg s–1). It is pointed out that, according to the present-day theory on the evolution of massive close binaries, the number of neutron stars and black holes in non-X-ray binary systems must be 100 times the number of the known X-ray binaries comprising OB supergiant stars; that is why, in studying non-X-ray binary systems, the chances are to detect about a hundred of black holes in the Galaxy.Criteria are formulated for the relativistic nature of companions in the binary systems, such as high spatial velocity values and height Z over the galactic plane for OB stars (runaway stars) and for Wolf-Rayet stars. As reported by Tutukov and Yungelson (1973), as well as by van den Heuvel (1976), the presence of ring-type nebulae can serve as another indication of a relativistic nature of companions in the case of Wolf-Rayet stars.Data are collected on Wolf-Rayet stars with low-mass companions (Table I), which can be relativistic objects accreting within a strong stellar wind from Wolf-Rayet stars. Presented are new findings in respect of spectral examination of the runaway OB-stars (Table II), bringing together data on eight OB stars which can represent binary systems with relativistic companions (Table III).A list of 28 OB-stars (Table IV) which offer a good chance for finding relativistic companions is given.  相似文献

The cosmic scatter of 147 of the best known visual binary stars on the Main Sequence is discussed and a new estimation of the luminosity distribution function for multiple star systems is presented. As long as the mass ratioq of a close binary is not smaller than 0.5, the distribution of close binary components is identical to the van Rhijn liminosity-function. For smaller mass ratios (q<0.5) the number of close companions decreases rapidly. It appears that less than 13% of visual binaries in our sample are simple binary systems.Communication presented at the International Conference on Astrometric Binaries, held on 13–15 June, 1984, at the Remeis-Sternwarte Bamberg, Germany, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel (1784–1846).  相似文献

The pulse-period distribution of binary X-ray pulsars has been considered. A gap in this distribution, in the period rangeP10 s toP100s has been explained in terms of the character of mass transfer in the X-ray binary systems. It is shown that this gap arises because the rotating magnetised neutron stars in these systems are slowed down by accretion torques, either toP10 s when the mass transfer is by means of Roche-lobe overflow in low mass binaries, or toP100 s by stellar winds in massive binaries. The gap is maintained as the slow pulsars (P>100 s) in their spin-up phase cross the gap in a time short compared to their life-time, because of the increase in mass transfer with the evolution of the normal star.  相似文献

We review various aspects of the evolutionary history of massive X-ray binaries. It is expected that moderately massive close binaries evolve to Be X-ray binaries, while very massive systems evolve to standard X-ray binaries. The compact objects are formed through supernova explosions. The fairly low galactic latitudes of those systems indicate that the explosion should, in general, not have accelerated the system to a velocity larger than 50kms–1. This implies that the mass of the exploding stars is in general less than 5 to 6M .After the explosion, tidal forces will circularize the orbit of short period systems. Even if the tidal evolution has been completed, the expansion of the optical star during the course of its evolution will continously disturb the stability of the orbit. Short period systems with large mass ratio may eventually become tidally unstable. Cen X-3 may be an example of such a system. The predicted rate of the orbital period decrease of Cen X-3 is in agreement with the observed rate.A way to represent the rotational and magnetic evolution of neutron stars in close binary systems is presented. The observed distribution of the pulsation periods of X-ray pulsars with Be companions is consistent with initial magnetic fields of 1012–1013 G of the neutron stars. We suggest that the fast X-ray pulsars 4U 0115+63 and A 0538-66 are young neutron stars, while Cen X-3 and SMC X-1 are recycled pulsars. The evolutionary relationship between massive X-ray binaries, binary pulsars, and millisecond pulsars is also discussed.Invited paper presented at the IAU Third Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kyoto, Japan, between 30 September–6 October, 1984.  相似文献

I examined two multiple impulsive events in May 1969 and compared their impulsive Hex, hard X-ray and microwave components to the observed type III emission. No good correlation was observed between meter intensity and the degree of simultaneous H outflow although almost every type III burst had some associated H activity. Correspondingly, an inverse relationship existed between X-ray and type III emission, i.e., a strong meter burst accompanied weak hard X-radiation. This, along with the fact that sufficient energetic electrons were normally present to produce the X-rays, implies that the trajectory, rather than electron spectrum or supply, determines whether type III noise is observed during an impulsive event.  相似文献

Simulation calculations have been made to examine the modification effect of a hot X-ray photon field on a-ray spectrum by the photon-photon pair production and inverse Compton scattering processes. The Cyg X-3 system was used as a paradigm. It is shown that a-ray spectrum can change significantly when passing through the ambient keV X-ray photon field of an accretion binary source. For Cyg X-3, a significant amount of r-rays originated near the central source in the range of 102-104 MeV could be absorbed by the extended X-ray photons from accretion disk corona in a high X-ray luminosity state and, on the other hand, the inverse Compton effect of secondary electrons could cause a considerable increase in intensity of-rays between ~ 10 MeV and ~ 50 MeV. The relevance of the absorption effect for observations is discussed.  相似文献

The analysis of solar wind He++ and H+ ion distribution functions, collected over five months by the satellite Prognoz 1, shows that these are in general maxwellian but that often tails appear at higher speeds. The existing relation V-T, the observation of ratios of T/Tp 3.83 and V/Vp 1.035 give evidence of preferential He++ ion heating and acceleration. The criteria for heating by dissipation of hydromagnetic waves proposed by Barnes and Hung (1973) are tested experimentally. Finally, multifluid models are likely to predict certain observations such as dependence of the velocity ratio V/Vp on the solar wind flux.  相似文献

Close binaries can evolve through various ways of interaction into compact objects (white dwarfs, neutron stars, black holes). Massive binary systems (mass of the primaryM 1 larger than 14 to 15M 0) are expected to leave, after the first stage of mass transfer a compact component orbiting a massive star. These systems evolve during subsequent stages into massive X-ray binaries. Systems with initial large periode evolve into Be X-ray binaries.Low mass X-ray sources are probably descendants of lower mass stars, and various channels for their production are indicated. The evolution of massive close binaries is examined in detail and different X-ray stages are discussed. It is argued that a first X-ray stage is followed by a reverse extensive mass transfer, leading to systems like SS 433, Cir X1. During further evolution these systems would become Wolf-Rayet runaways. Due to spiral in these system would then further evolve into ultra short X-ray binaries like Cyg X-3.Finally the explosion of the secondary will in most cases disrupt the system. In an exceptional case the system remains bound, leading to binary pulsars like PSR 1913+16. In such systems the orbit will shrink due to gravitational radiation and finally the two neutron stars will coalesce. It is argued that the millisecond pulsar PSR 1937+214 could be formed in this way.A complete scheme starting from two massive ZAMS stars, ending with a millisecond pulsar is presented.Paper presented at the Lembang-Bamberg IAU Colloquium No. 80 on Double Stars: Physical Properties and Generic Relations, held at Bandung, Indonesia 3–7 June, 1983.  相似文献

Based on the photospheric vector magnetograms taken at Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS), H images taken at Hiraiso Solar Terrestrial Research Center of Communication Research Laboratory, soft X-ray images taken by Yohkoh and an extrapolation method, the magnetic field structures and some active phenomena of the active region AR 7321 around 04:12 UT on 27 October 1992 are analyzed in this paper. A divergence of the transverse magnetic field, located at a newly formed spot, was found. At least four highly sheared magnetic field systems separately spread from this divergence to four other sites around this divergence. Vertical current concentrations are upward in this region and downward in the other four sites, and the corresponding H bright patches and soft X-ray bright loops coincide with these structures, confirming the existence of these four systems. The extrapolated magnetic force lines reconstructed by the Boundary Element Method (BEM), force-free field assumption, and boundary condition of observed photospheric vector magnetic field, coincide in space with the H bright patches and soft X-ray bright loops, showing that this extrapolation method is very effective and suggesting that the H bright patches and soft X-ray bright loops in this case represent the magnetic field structures in the upper atmosphere of the Sun.The bright structures in the H images and the soft X-ray images have a close correlation with the non-potential characteristics of the magnetic fields.  相似文献

It is shown that the quiescent radio emission observed in some RS Vc binary systems cannot be ascribed to the same thermal electrons population responsible for the X-ray emission. An alternative explanation to account for the observed correlation between X-ray and radio luminosity is suggested.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

A total 91 binary systems of systemic mass less than 6.5M have been studied. It is found that binary systems obey the relation: logH=C–1.8 logM whereC is constant having values –1.18, –2.12 and –2.27 respectively for detached, semi-detached and contact binary systems. It is inferred that during evolution, the systemic orbital angular momentum decreases.  相似文献

The evolution of parameters of close binary systems containing a red dwarf (with mass loss) and a condensed star is investigated. The mass loss from the system and asynchronism of the red dwarf rotation are taken into consideration. The calculations show that if the initial mass ratioq 02 then during 107 yr the instability of mass loss process arises, and a bright X-ray source forms with luminosity close to the Eddington one. Ifq 0>2 then during the mass loss phase the bright X-ray source arises twice. The models explain the existence of the forbidden interval of orbital periods and the absence of systems with periods less than 80 min.  相似文献

The eccentric orbit binary model which has been developed by Haynes, Lerche and Murdin (1979) for the radio-emitting X-ray source Circinus X-1 is used to calculate the inverse Compton -ray flux. Burst-like behaviour is predicted in association with the formation near orbital periastron of a luminosity-driven, radially expanding shock front.  相似文献

The results of evolutionary computations for massive binary systems (initial masses of the primary 10M ) with mass ratios between 0.3 and 0.8 are summarized and compared with observations in order to verify how far one can go with the conservative assumption of mass exchange. It is found that conservative mass exchange leads to acceptable first-order models of W-R and massive X-ray binaries. However, the comparison between this theory and observation reveals that for the observed systems (W-R and X-ray binaries) a preference exists for low intial mass ratios; moreover, the X-ray luminosities of the theoretical models are systematically too low, though this may be due to the adopted wind model. In addition, the influences of several parameters (distance between the components, chemical composition, primary mass, mass ratio and atmosphere) are examined. These parameters influence the remnant mass and any further evolution only marginally. Attention is also given to the effect on the system parameters of a supernova explosion of the remnant of the mass-losing component. For a large range of systems a disruption probability smaller than 25% is found.  相似文献

The dynamical evolution of triple systems with equal-mass components and zero initial velocities is studied. We consider two regions of initial conditions: a regionD of all possible configurations of triples and a circleR. The configurations are distributed uniformly within these regions. The calculations have been carried out until a time when escape or conditional escape (i.e. distant ejection) of one component takes place. The accuracy has been checked by doing time-reversed integration. Types of predictable and non-predictable systems are revealed. Averages for a number of evolution parameters are presented: the life-time, minimum perimeter during the last triple approach resulting in escape, semi-major axis and eccentricity of the final binary, and the smallest separation between the components during the evolution. It is shown that the statistical results for the regionsD andR do not differ significantly for the most part. Our results, which have been obtaned by a three-body regularization method, are in good agreement with previous work based on the RK4 integrator and Sundman's time smoothing.  相似文献

On the theory that peculiar A stars were once secondaries in binary systems in which the primaries exploded as type II supernovae, the nucleosynthesis during the final stages of evolution of massive stars is investigated. For heavy elements (Z>30) the observed abundances in peculiar. A stars reflect the composition of material ejected by the exploding primaries. Peculiar A stars are divided into two groups, the main group and the Mn group, and abundances in each group are summarised. During the explosions of the primaries, rapid (n, ) or (, n) reactions operate on the abundance peaks previously formed by the s-process during the giant phase. In the main group primaries (n, ) reactions predominate, and rare-earths are formed from the Ba peak. In the Mn group primaries (, n) reactions operate on the Sr, Ba and Pb peaks to form Kr, Xe and Hg.  相似文献

The dependence of the spin frequency derivative \(\dot \nu \) of accreting neutron stars with a strongmagnetic field (X-ray pulsars) on the mass accretion rate (bolometric luminosity, Lbol) has been investigated for eight transient pulsars in binary systems with Be stars. Using data from the Fermi/GBM and Swift/BAT telescopes, we have shown that for seven of the eight systems the dependence \(\dot \nu \) (Lbol) can be fitted by the model of angular momentum transfer through an accretion disk, which predicts the relation \(\dot \nu \)L6/7bol. Hysteresis in the dependence \(\dot \nu \) (Lbol) has been confirmed in the system V 0332+53 and has been detected for the first time in the systems KS 1947+300, GRO J1008-57, and 1A 0535+26. Estimates for the radius of the neutron star magnetosphere in all of the investigated systems have been obtained. We show that this quantity varies from pulsar to pulsar and depends strongly on the analytical model and the estimates for the neutron star and binary system parameters.  相似文献

We suggest that the variable pulse profile of GX 1+4 in the low-energy X-ray region results from the superposition of polar and disk components. The anomalous appearance during the spin-down episode can then be explained, if we consider a transition from thin to thick accretion disk configuration which can develop at midly super-Eddington luminosity levels of the source. a close examination of the data suggests that the intrinsic period of the pulsar is 4 min. A switching disk geometry can provide a natural explanation to pulse profile variations in more luminous accreting binary pulsars and also account for the transition between high and low spectral states seen in the case of the Cyg X-1 and low-mass X-ray binary systems.  相似文献

With the available data in planets, stars and galaxies, it is studied the functions of angular momentaJ(M) and amounts of actionA c(M) (associated to the non rotational terms in the kinetic energy). The results indicate that independently of how are these functionsJ(M),A c(M) their ratioA c/J remains a near invariant. It is independent also from the type of angular momenta: intrinsic spins of the bodies or the total angular (orbital) momenta of the bodies forming a system; for instance, the Solar System and the planets. The relationA c(M) for the Solar System are analogous to these in the FGK stars of the main sequence, and the relationJ(M) (also for the Solar System) is analogous to the lower possible limit for binary stars. The different types of binary stars from the short period, detached systems to contactary systems, gives a range of functionsJ(M),A c(M) that are the same that one can expect in stars with planetary systems. According to the detection limits given for planetary companions by Campbell, Walker and Yang (1988) (masses of less than 9 Jupiter masses and orbital periods of less than 50 years) we calculate the limits forJ(M) andA c(M) This gives a lower limitA c/J 1 associated to stars with planetary systems as 61 Cygni and to short period detached binaries. The upper limitA c/J 16 correspond to planetary systems as the ours and probably to cataclysmic binaries. There are reasons to suspect that systems as the ours and in range 4 A c/J 16 (with a lower limit analogous to contactary binaries as Algols and W Ursa Majoris) must be the most common type of planetary systems. The analogies with the functionsJ(M)A c(M) for galaxies suggest cosmogonical conditions in the stellar formation.Independently of this, one can have boundary conditions for the Jacobi problem when applied to a collapsing cloud. Namely, from the initial stage (a molecular cloud) to the final stage (a formed stellar system: binary or planetary) the angular momenta and amounts of action decayed to 10~4 the initial values, but in such a form thatA c(t)/J(t) remains a near invariant.  相似文献
