We carry out an optical morphological and infrared spectral study for two young planetary nebulae(PNs) Hen2-158 and Pe 1-1 to understand their complex shapes and dust properties. Hubble Space Telescope optical images reveal that these nebulae have several bipolar-lobed structures and a faint arc with a clear boundary is located at the northwestern side of Pe 1-1. We present optical and infrared photometric and spectroscopic studies of two Be stars in the 70–80-Myr-old open cluster NGC 6834. NGC 6834(1) has been reported as a binary from speckle interferometric studies whereas NGC 6834(2) may possibly be a γ Cas-like variable. Infrared photometry and spectroscopy from the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope(UKIRT), and optical data from various facilities are combined with archival data to understand the nature of these candidates.High signal-to-noise near-IR spectra obtained from UKIRT have enabled us to study the optical depth effects in the hydrogen emission lines of these stars. We have explored the spectral classification scheme based on the intensity of emission lines in the H and K bands and contrasted it with the conventional classification based on the intensity of hydrogen and helium absorption lines. This work also presents hitherto unavailable UBV CCD photometry of NGC 6834, from which the evolutionary state of the Be stars is identified.  相似文献

Line surveys of complex molecules with millimeter and sub-millimeter telescopes are important for probing the physical and chemical environments of massive star forming regions(MSFRs).We present a molecular line survey with the Submillimeter Array(SMA) in the frequency ranges of 220.3–222.3 GHz and 230.3–232.3 GHz toward G10.6-0.4, the brightest star forming core in the W31 complex. Ninety-nine transitions from 22 molecular species and their isotopologues are identified. The moment 0 images of typical molecules show a compact core which is concentrated at the continuum peak position. Based on the local thermodynamic equilibrium assumption, the molecular line data are modeled. The rotational temperatures of those molecular species range from 96 to 178 K and their column densities range from 2.0×10~(14) to 3.7×10~(17) cm~(-2). The observational data suggest that all complex molecules are located in a warm environment. Chemical environments of the molecules are discussed. We compared molecular abundances and gas temperatures in G10.6-0.4 with those in other MSFRs, and found that gas temperatures and fractional abundances of specific molecules in G10.6-0.4 are similar to the typical MSFR W51 North, suggesting that there are similar physical and chemical environments in these two MSFRs.  相似文献

It has been suggested that Type Ia supernovae(SNe Ia) could be produced in the conditions of the violent merger scenario of the double-degenerate model, in which a thermonuclear explosion could be produced when a double carbon-oxygen white dwarf(CO WD) merges. It has been recently found that the nucleus of the bipolar planetary nebula Henize 2–428 consists of a double CO WD system that has a total mass of^1.76 M⊙, a mass ratio of^1 and an orbital period of^4.2 h, which is the first and only discovered progenitor candidate for an SN Ia predicted by the violent merger scenario. In this work, we aim to reproduce the evolutionary history of the central double CO WD of Henize 2–428. We find that the planetary nebula Henize 2–428 may originate from a primordial binary that has a^5.4 M⊙primary and a^2.7 M⊙secondary with an initial orbital period of^15.9 d. The double CO WD was formed after the primordial binary experienced two Roche-lobe overflows and two common-envelope ejection processes.According to our calculations, it takes about^840 Myr for the double CO WD to merge and form an SN Ia driven by gravitational wave radiation after their birth. To produce the current status of Henize 2–428,a large common-envelope parameter is needed. We also estimate that the rate of SNe Ia from the violent merger scenario is at most 2.9 × 10-4 yr-1, and that the delay time is in the range of^90 Myr to the Hubble time.  相似文献

According to analysis of the14 C content in two Japanese trees, that grew over a period of approximately 3000 years, with high time resolution, Miyake et al.found a rapid increase at AD 774–775 and another one at AD 993–994. These increases correspond to high-energy events that happened within those years and radiated γ-ray energy of about 7×1024erg toward the Earth. The origin of these events is a mystery. Such strong events should have an unusual optical counterpart, and have been recorded in historical literatures. We searched Chinese historical materials around AD 744–775 and AD 993–994, but no remarkable event was found except for a violent thunderstorm in AD 775. However, the possibility of a thunderstorm containing so much energy is unlikely. We conclude that the events, which caused the14 C increase, are still unclear. These events most probably had no optical counterpart, and a short gamma-ray burst, giant flare of a soft gamma-ray repeater or a terrestrial γ-ray flash could all be candidates.  相似文献

The radiative mechanism of black hole X-ray transients(BHXTs) in their quiescent states(defined as the 2–10 ke V X-ray luminosity 10~(34) erg s~(-1)) remains unclear. In this work, we investigate the quasi-simultaneous quiescent state spectrum(including radio, infrared, optical, ultraviolet and X-ray)of two BHXTs, A0620–00 and XTE J1118+480. We find that these two sources can be well described by a coupled accretion – jet model. More specifically, most of the emission(radio up to infrared, and the X-ray waveband) comes from the collimated relativistic jet. Emission from hot accretion flow is totally insignificant, and it can only be observed in mid-infrared(the synchrotron peak). Emission from the outer cold disk is only evident in the UV band. These results are consistent with our previous investigation on the quiescent state of V404 Cyg and confirm that the quiescent state is jet-dominated.  相似文献

The fact that infrared ring nebulae(IRRNe) are frequently associated with HⅡ regions provides us with an opportunity to study dust at the interface between ionized and neutral gas. In this paper, we analyze the associated infrared(IR) radiation in the range from 8 to 500 μm in the outer and inner parts of32 IRRNe showing a round shape. We aim to determine the morphology of these objects and possible dust evolution processes based on comparing IR radiation towards the ionized and neutral regions. We calculate six slopes between adjacent wavelengths in their spectral energy distributions to trace the difference in physical conditions inside and outside the ionized regions. Using data on these 32 objects, we demonstrate that their morphology is likely 3 D spherical rather than 2 D plane-like. The slope between 70 and 160 μm is the most appropriate tracer of dust temperature in the outer envelope. The larger 8-to-24 μm intensity ratio is associated with smaller intensities at mid-IR, indicating that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) may indeed be generated due to larger grain destruction. These data are important for the subsequent theoretical modeling, and determining the dust evolution in HⅡ regions and their envelopes.  相似文献

X-ray emission is an important indicator of stellar activity. In this paper, we study stellar Xray activity using the XMM-Newton and LAMOST data for different types of stars. We provide a sample including 1259 X-ray-emitting stars, of which 1090 have accurate stellar parameter estimations. Our sample size is much larger than those used in previous works. We find a bimodal distribution of the X-ray to optical flux ratio(log(fX/fV)) for G and K stars. We interpret that this bimodality is due to two subpopulations with different coronal heating rates. Furthermore, using the full widths at half maxima calculated from Hα and Hβ lines, we show that these stars in the inactive peaks have smaller rotational velocities. This is consistent with the magnetic dynamo theory that presumes stars with low rotational velocities have low levels of stellar activity. We also examine the correlation between log(fX/fV) and luminosity of the excess emission in the Hα line, and find a tight relation between the coronal and chromospheric activity indicators.  相似文献

Ellerman bombs(EBs) are tiny brightenings often observed near sunspots.The most impressive characteristic of EB spectra is the two emission bumps in both wings of the Hα and Ca II 8542 ?A lines. High-resolution spectral data of three small EBs were obtained on 2013 June 6 with the largest solar telescope, the 1.6 m New Solar Telescope at the Big Bear Solar Observatory. The characteristics of these EBs are analyzed. The sizes of the EBs are in the range of 0.3′′- 0.8′′ and their durations are only 3–5 min. Our semi-empirical atmospheric models indicate that the heating occurs around the temperature minimum region with a temperature increase of 2700–3000 K, which is surprisingly higher than previously thought. The radiative and kinetic energies are estimated to be as high as 5 × 1025- 3.0 × 1026 erg despite the small size of these EBs. Observations of the magnetic field show that the EBs just appeared in a parasitic region with mixed polarities and were accompanied by mass motions.Nonlinear force-free field extrapolation reveals that the three EBs are connected with a series of magnetic field lines associated with bald patches, which strongly implies that these EBs should be produced by magnetic reconnection in the solar lower atmosphere. According to the lightcurves and the estimated magnetic reconnection rate,we propose that there is a three phase process in EBs: pre-heating, flaring and cooling phases.  相似文献

To obtain reliable Cu abundances with the APOGEE H-band spectra, it is important to investigate the non-local thermodynamic equilibrium(NLTE) effects on the formation of the H-band Cu I lines.In addition, the Cu atomic model needs to be tested. Based on both the high-resolution and high signal-tonoise ratio H-band spectra from the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment(APOGEE)and optical data, we derived the LTE and NLTE copper abundances of 13 FGK sample stars with the spectral synthesis method. We find that the NLTE effects are negligible for the Cu I 16005.7 ?A line in the IR H-band. Consistent copper abundances within the uncertainties from these two sets of lines have been obtained, which indicates the reliability of our NLTE copper atomic model. We note that the [Cu/Fe] ratios increase with increasing metallicity when ~–1.4 dex [Fe/H] ~–0.5 dex, favoring a secondary(metallicity-dependent) copper production.  相似文献

We study the environment of radio galaxies with different morphological types using the Proctor sample, which was built from the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-Centimeters(FIRST) survey archive. Among the 15 radio galaxy types classified by Proctor, 199 C-shaped(i.e., wide-or narrow-angle tail) and 203 S-shaped(i.e., S-or Z-shaped) sources are selected in this work, which are located in the redshift range of 0.02 z 1, because these two subsamples are relatively larger than the other subsamples in the Proctor sample. By cross-matching these radio galaxies with the optical sources drawn from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS) database and counting the SDSS sources with an r-band absolute magnitude brighter than –19 located within a 0.5 Mpc distance around each source(i.e., the richness), we find that the fraction of C-shaped sources with a richness above 10 is larger than that of S-shaped sources. We have also correlated the radio galaxies in our sample with the brightest cluster galaxies(BCGs) defined in the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database(NED), and infer that the C-shaped sources are more likely to be BCGs than the S-shaped sources. These results support the idea that C-shaped radio galaxies often reside in a richer environment than radio galaxies with other morphological types.  相似文献

We present Caltech Submillimeter Observatory CO(2–1) and Spitzer IRAC observations toward IRAS 22506+5944, which is a 10~4 L_⊙massive star-forming region. The CO(2–1) maps show an east-west bipolar molecular outflow originating from the 3 mm dust continuum peak. The Spitzer IRAC color-composite image reveals a pair of bow-shaped tips which are prominent in excess 4.5 μm emission and are located at the leading fronts of the bipolar outflow, providing compelling evidence for the existence of bow-shocks as the driving agents of the molecular outflow. By comparing our CO(2–1) observations with previously published CO(1–0) data, we find that the CO(2–1)/(1–0) line ratio increases from low(~5 kms~(-1)) to moderate(~8–12 kms~(-1)) velocities, and then decreases at higher velocities. This is qualitatively consistent with the scenario that the molecular outflow is driven by multiple bow-shocks. We also revisit the position-velocity diagram of the CO(1–0) data, and find two spur structures along the outflow axis, which are further evidence for the presence of multiple jet bowshocks. Finally, power-law fittings to the mass spectrum of the outflow gives power law indexes more consistent with the jet bow-shock model than the wide-angle wind model.  相似文献

The M dwarfs GL 832 (spectral type M2), GL 887 (M1), and GL 1 (M2) have been observed with the ISOPHOT spectrophotometers in the range 2.5-12μm at high signal-to-noise ratios. Since optical and ground based near-infrared data are also available, more than 95 % of the total flux is now covered for these objects. It is seen that between 2.5 μm and about 9 μm the fluxes fall off faster than a Rayleigh-Jeans tail of a black body distribution and that for longer wavelengths the decline is smaller. This indicates that the ISO data are probing the region around the temperature minimum and that our stars have some kind of chromosphere although Hα emission is not observed. Comparison with a model indicates that the features are considerably weaker than predicted. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We aim to provide a quasar sample that is more complete than any previous surveys by using a combined selection technique to reduce the selection effects. Here we present the observational results for the X-ray candidates in the field of the Leo Cluster. We found 33 X-ray AGNs in this field of which 10 are new discoveries. The X-ray data and optical spectra of these AGNs are given. We also study the near-IR properties of the X-ray-selected AGNs by using the data from 2MASS. Most of the AGNs in our sample span the color range 0.0〈B-J〈2.5,1.0〈 J-Ks 〈2.0 and 0.5〈H-Ks〈1.2.  相似文献

We report the FCRAO observations that mapped HCN(1–0), CS(2–1), HNC(1–0) and HCO+(1–0) in ten high-mass star forming cores associated with water masers. We present velocity integrated intensity maps of the four lines for these dense cores, compare their line profiles, and derive physical properties of these cores. We find that these four tracers identify areas with similar properties in these massive dense cores, and in most cases, the emissions of HCN and HCO+are stronger than those of HNC and CS. We also use the line ratios of HCO+/HCN, HNC/HCN and HNC/HCO+as the diagnostics to explore the environment of these high-mass star forming regions, and find that most of the cores agree with the model that photodominated regions dominate the radiation field, except for W44, for which the radiation field is similar to an X-ray dominated region.  相似文献

3 C 207 is a lobe-dominant radio galaxy with a one sided jet and bright knots, spanning a kpcMpc scale, which have been resolved in the radio, optical and X-ray bands. This target was confirmed as a γ-ray emitter with Fermi/LAT, but it is uncertain whether the γ-ray emission region is the core or knots due to the low spatial resolution of Fermi/LAT. We present an analysis of its Fermi/LAT data acquired during the past 9 years. Different from the radio and optical emission from the core, it is found that theγ-ray emission is steady without detection of flux variation at over a 2σ confidence level. This likely implies that the γ-ray emission is from its knots. We collect the radio, optical and X-ray data of knot-A,the closest knot from the core at 1.4′′, and compile its spectral energy distribution(SED). Although the single-zone synchrotron+SSC+IC/CMB model that assumes knot-A is at rest can reproduce the SED in the radio-optical-X-ray band, the predicted γ-ray flux is lower than the LAT observations and the derived magnetic field strength deviates from the equipartition condition by 3 orders of magnitude. Assuming that knot-A is moving relativistically, its SED from radio to γ-ray bands would be represented well with the single-zone synchrotron+SSC+IC/CMB model under the equipartition condition. These results likely suggest that the γ-ray emission may be from knot-A via the IC/CMB process and the knot should have relativistical motion. The jet power derived from our model parameters is also roughly consistent with the kinetic power estimated with radio data.  相似文献

Planetary nebulae(PNe) are an important tool for studying the dynamics and chemical evolution of galaxies in the Local Universe, given their characteristic bright emission line spectra. The Andromeda Galaxy(M31) provides a unique laboratory for studying PNe in the circumnuclear region,thanks to its proximity and almost uniformly low line-of-sight extinction that ensures observations with high resolution and sensitivity. Using the WIYN/Hydra multi-fiber spectrograph, we have obtained optical(4119–6882 A?) spectra of 77 PN candidates selected from Hubble Space Telescope narrow-band imaging, which are located within the central ~500 pc region of M31. Among these candidates, 49(64%) are spectroscopically observed for the first time. The spectra of 300 previously known PNe and H Ⅱ regions, which primarily reside in the disk, are also taken for comparison. All 77 circumnuclear PN candidates exhibit prominent emission lines, including [O Ⅲ]λ5007, [N Ⅱ]λ6583, Hα and Hβ,strongly suggesting that they are genuine PNe. We measured the line fluxes, radial velocities and line widths for all objects, and found that the radial velocities of the circumnuclear PNe generally trace rotation of the inner bulge. We also estimated a dynamical mass of ~6.4±0.5×10~9 M_⊙ enclosed within an effective galactocentric radius of 340 pc, which is compatible with the previously estimated total stellar mass in this region.  相似文献

We present long term optical variability studies of bright X-ray sources in four nearby elliptical galaxies with the Chandra Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer array(ACIS-S) and observations from the Hubble Space Telescope(HST) Advanced Camera for Surveys.Out of the 46 bright(X-ray counts 60)sources that are in the common field of view of the Chandra and HST observations,34 of them have potential optical counterparts,while the rest of them are optically dark.After taking into account systematic errors,estimated using optical sources in the field as a reference,we find that four of the X-ray sources(three in NGC 1399 and one in NGC 1427) have variable optical counterparts at a high level of significance.The X-ray luminosities of these sources are ~ 10~(38) erg s~(-1) and are also variable on similar time scales.The optical variability implies that the optical emission is associated with the X-ray source itself rather than being the integrated light from a host globular cluster.For one source,the change in optical magnitude is 0.3,which is one of the highest reported for this class of X-ray sources and this suggests that the optical variability is induced by the X-ray activity.However,the optically variable sources in NGC 1399 have been reported to have blue colors(g- z 1).All four sources have been detected in the infrared(IR) by Spitzer as point sources,and their ratios of 5.8 to 3.6 μm flux are 0.63,indicating that their IR spectra are like those of Active Galactic Nuclei(AGNs).While spectroscopic confirmation is required,it is likely that all four sources are background AGNs.We find none of the X-ray sources having optical/IR colors different from AGNs to be optically variable.  相似文献

Elemental abundance patterns of globular cluster stars can provide important clues for understanding cluster formation and early chemical evolution.The origin of the abundance patterns,however,still remains poorly understood.We have studied the impact of p-capture reaction cycles on the abundances of oxygen,sodium and aluminium considering nuclear reaction cycles of carbon-nitrogenoxygen-fluorine,neon-sodium and magnesium-aluminium in massive stars in stellar conditions of temperature range 2×10~7 to 10×10~7K and typical density of 10~2gm cc~(-1).We have estimated abundances of oxygen,sodium and aluminium with respect to Fe,which are then assumed to be ejected from those stars because of rotation reaching a critical limit.These ejected abundances of elements are then compared with their counterparts that have been observed in some metal-poor evolved stars,mainly giants and red giants,of globular clusters M3,M4,M13 and NGC 6752.We observe an excellent agreement with[O/Fe]between the estimated and observed abundance values for globular clusters M3 and M4 with a correlation coefficient above 0.9 and a strong linear correlation for the remaining two clusters with a correlation coefficient above 0.7.The estimated[Na/Fe]is found to have a correlation coefficient above 0.7,thus implying a strong correlation for all four globular clusters.As far as[Al/Fe]is concerned,it also shows a strong correlation between the estimated abundance and the observed abundance for globular clusters M13 and NGC 6752,since here also the correlation coefficient is above 0.7 whereas for globular cluster M4 there is a moderate correlation found with a correlation coefficient above 0.6.Possible sources of these discrepancies are discussed.  相似文献

We carried out optical high-resolution spectroscopy of T Tauri stars using the Subaru Telescope.Using archived data from the Keck Telescope and the Very Large Telescope, we detected forbidden lines of [S II] at 4069 ?A, in addition to those of [O I] at 5577 ?A and 6300 ?A, for 13 T Tauri stars. We consider that low-velocity components of these forbidden lines emanate from the wind associated with T Tauri stars.Using two flux ratios of the three lines, we simultaneously determined the hydrogen density and temperature of the winds. The winds of T Tauri stars have a hydrogen density of 2.5 × 106cm-3- 2.5 × 109cm-3and a temperature of 10 800 –18 000 K. The mass loss rates by the wind are estimated to lie in the range from2.0 × 10-10M⊙yr-1to 1.4 × 10-9M⊙yr-1. The mass loss rates are found to increase with increasing mass accretion rates. The ratio of the mass loss rate to the mass accretion rate is 0.001–0.1 for classical T Tauri stars and 0.1–1 for transitional disk objects.  相似文献
