We investigate the dynamical evolution of 100 000 rotating triple systems with equal-mass components. The system rotation is specified by the parameter ω=?c2E, where c and E are the angular momentum and total energy of the triple system, respectively. We consider ω=0.1,1, 2, 4, 6 and study 20 000 triple systems with randomly specified coordinates and velocities of the bodies for each ω. We consider two methods for specifying initial conditions: with and without a hierarchical structure at the beginning of the evolution. The evolution of each system is traced until the escape of one of the bodies or until the critical time equal to 1000 mean system crossing times. For each set of initial conditions, we computed parameters of the final motions: orbital parameters for the final binary and the escaping body. We analyze variations in the statistical characteristics of the distributions of these parameters with ω. The mean disruption time of triple systems and the fraction of the systems that have not been disrupted in 1000 mean crossing times increase with ω. The final binaries become, on average, wider at larger angular momenta. The distribution of their eccentricities does not depend on ω and generally agrees with the theoretical law f(e)=2e. The velocities of the escaping bodies, on average, decrease with increasing angular momentum of the triple system. The fraction of the angles between the escaping-body velocity vector and the triple-system angular momentum close to 90° increases with ω. Escapes in the directions opposite to rotation and prograde motions dominate at small and large angular momenta, respectively. For slowly rotating systems, the angular momentum during their disruption is, on average, evenly divided between the escaping body and the final binary, whereas in rapidly rotating systems, about 80% of the angular momentum is carried away by the escaping component. We compare our numerical simulations with the statistical theory of triple-system disruption.  相似文献

We used binary octahedrons to investigate the dynamical behaviors of binary asteroid systems. The mutual potential of the binary polyhedron method is derived from the fourth order to the sixth order. The irregular shapes, relative orbits, attitude angles, as well as the angular velocities of the binary asteroid system are included in the model. We investigated the relative trajectory of the secondary relative to the primary, the total angular momentum and total energy of the system, the three-axis attitude angular velocity of the binary system, as well as the angular momentum of the two components. The relative errors of the total angular momentum and the total energy indicate that the calculation has a high precision. It is found that the influence of the orbital and attitude motion of the primary from the gravitational force of the secondary is obvious. This study is useful in understanding the complicated dynamical behaviors of the binary asteroid systems discovered in our Solar system.  相似文献

A sample of 51 separated binary systems with measured apsidal periods and rotational velocities of the components is examined. The ranges of the angles of inclination of the equatorial planes of the components to the orbital plane are estimated for these systems. The observed apsidal velocities can be explained by assuming that the axes of rotation of the stars are nonorthogonal to the orbital plane in roughly 47% of the systems (24 of the 51) and the rotation of the components is not synchronized with the orbital motion in roughly 59% of the systems (30 of 51). Nonorthogonality and nonsynchrony are defined as deviations from 90° and a synchronized angular velocity, respectively, at levels of 1 or more.  相似文献

This paper deals with the plane motion of a star in the gravitational field of a system which is in a steady state and rotates with a constant angular velocity. For these systems a class of potentials permitting a local integral, linear with respect to the velocity components, has been found. The concept of the local integral itself was introduced by one of the authors of the present paper (Antonov, 1981). A detailed model has been constructed. The corresponding domain of the particle motion and the form of the trajectory coils have been determined. The result is compared with the motion in a more realistic potential.  相似文献

In a previous paper, using Eggleton's stellar evolution code, we have discussed the structure and evolution of low-mass W Ursae Majoris (W UMa) type contact binaries with angular momentum loss owing to gravitational radiation or magnetic braking. We find that gravitational radiation is almost insignificant for cyclic evolution of low-mass W UMa type systems, and it is possible for angular momentum to be lost from W UMa systems in a magnetic stellar wind. The weaker magnetic activity shown by observations in W UMa systems is likely caused by the lower mass of the convective envelopes in these systems than in similar but non-contact binaries. The spin angular momentum cannot be neglected at any time for W UMa type systems, especially for those with extreme mass ratios. The spin angular momenta of both components are included in this paper and they are found to have a significant influence on the cyclic evolution of W UMa systems. We investigate the influence of the energy transfer on the common convective envelopes of both components in detail. We find that the mass of the convective envelope of the primary in contact evolution is slightly more than that in poor thermal contact evolution, and that the mass of the convective envelope of the secondary in contact evolution is much less than that in poor thermal contact evolution. Meanwhile, the rate of angular momentum loss of W UMa type systems is much lower than that of poor thermal contact systems. This is indeed caused by the lower masses of the convective envelopes of the components in W UMa type systems. Although the models with angular momentum loss for W UMa systems exhibit cyclic evolution, they seem to show that a W UMa system cannot continue this type of cyclic evolution indefinitely, and it might coalesce into a fast-rotating star after about 1200 cycles of evolution (about  7.0 × 109 yr  ).  相似文献

Comparison of the characteristics of groups of stars in various evolutionary phases and the study of individual systems allow to make estimates of the parameters governing mass loss and mass transfer. Observations enable us in a few cases to determine geometric models for binaries during or after the mass transfer phase (disks, rings, common envelopes, symbiotics, interacting binaries, compact components). From spectra taken at different phases, radial velocity curves can be derived and masses and radii can be determined. In special cases spectra in different spectral ranges (visual, UV, X-ray) are required for the determination of the radial velocities of the two components (for X-ray binaries, for systems with hot and cool components). Information on parameters related to the mass transfer process enables us to consider non conservative evolution — i.e. the computation of evolutionary sequences with the assumption that mass and angular momentum not only are transferred from one of the components towards the other one, but that also mass and angular momentum can leave the system. Careful and detailed analysis of the observations allows in certain cases to determine the parameters governing this mass and angular momentum loss, and for contact phases, to determine the degree of contact.Paper presented at the Lembang-Bamberg IAU Colloquium No. 80 on Double Stars: Physical Properties and Generic Relations, held at Bandung, Indonesia, 3–7 June, 1983.  相似文献

The transformation equations under generalized rotation are obtained for an initially defined reduced velocity tensor governing the motion of a deformable finite material continuum. Then angular momentum considerations lead to relations between flow properties of the continuum and properties of a coordinate system introduced to describe generalized rotation of the continuum. Such relations could define preferable coordinate systems perceiving zero angular momentum for the continuum or referring that it moves according to linear laws.  相似文献

Earlier work on the oscillations of an ellipsoid is extended to investigate the behaviour of a nonequilibrium compressible homogeneous rotating gaseous ellipsoid, with the components of the velocity field as linear functions of the coordinates, and with parallel angular velocity and uniform vorticity. The dynamical behaviour of the ellipsoid is obtained by numerically integrating the relevant differential equations for different values of the initial angular velocity and vorticity. This behaviour is displayed by the (a 1,a 2) and (a 1,a 3) phase plots, where thea i's (i = 1, 2, 3) are the semi-diameters, and by the graphs ofa 1,a 2,a 3, the volume, and the angular velocity as functions of time. The dynamical behaviour of the nonequilibrium ellipsoid depends on the deviation of the angular momentum from its equilibrium value; for larger deviations, the oscillations are more nonperiodic with larger amplitudes. An initially ellipsoidal configuration always remains ellipsoidal, but it cannot become spheroidal about its rotation axis, though it may become spheroidal instantaneously about either one of the other two principal axes. For an ellipsoid approaching axisymmetry about its axis of rotation, the angular velocity can suddenly increase by a large amount. Thus if an astrophysical object can be modelled by a nonequilibrium ellipsoid, it may occasionally undergo sudden large increases of angular velocity.  相似文献

The dynamics of the rotation of a two-component system in a neutron star is considered within the framework of the general theory of relativity. Equations for the angular velocities of the normal and superfluid components are obtained in the W approximation. It is shown that the solutions of these equations can describe the relaxation of pulsar angular velocity after a glitch. The dynamical evolution of triple systems with equal and unequal-mass components and different initial velocities is studied. It is shown that, in general, the statistical results for the planar and three-dimensional triple systems do not differ significantly. Most (about 85%) of the systems disrupt; the escape of one component occurs after a triple approach of the components. In a system with unequal masses, the escaping body usually has the smallest mass. A small fraction (about 15%) of stable or long-lived systems is formed if the angular momentum is non-zero. Averages, distributions and coefficients of correlations of evolutionary characteristics are presented: the life-time, angular momentum, numbers of wide and close triple approaches of bodies, relative energy of escapers, minimum perimeter during the last triple approach resulting in escape, elements of orbits of the final binary and escaper.  相似文献

We discuss the rotation of interstellar clouds which are in a stage immediately before star formation. Cloud collisions seem to be the principal cause of the observed rotation of interstellar clouds. The rotational motion of the clouds is strongly influenced by turbulence.Theories dealing with the resolution of the angular momentum problem in star formation are classified into five major groups. We develop the old idea that the angular momentum of an interstellar cloud passes during star formation into the angular momentum of double star systems and/or circumstellar clouds. It is suggested that a rotating gas cloud contracts into a ring-like structure which fragments into self-gravitating subcondensations. By collisions and gas accretion these subcondensations accrete into binary systems surrounded by circumstellar clouds. Using some rough approximations we find analytical expressions for the semi-major axis of the binary system and for the density of the circumstellar clouds as a function of the initial density and of the initial angular velocity of an interstellar cloud. The obtained values are well within the observational limits.  相似文献

Eclipse photographs indicate that large regions of the inner solar corona are confined in various types of closed magnetic configurations and, as a result, do not participate in the general solar wind expansion. In this paper, the rotation of initially poloidal loop configurations of this type, as influenced by differential rotation of the footpoints, is investigated. The analysis is restricted to axially symmetric fields and it is assumed that the toroidal magnetic field induced by differential rotation is small as compared to the initial poloidal field. This restricts the validity of the analysis to times less than about one month. The most interesting physical situation is that of flux tubes existing in one solar hemisphere only, one end of the tube being fixed in the photosphere at a higher latitude than the other. As a consequence, the lower end of the tube rotates at a faster rate than the upper end. Solution of the pertinent equations reveals that the angular velocity measured along a field line increases monotonically from its value at the poleward footpoint to that at the lower footpoint. The variation of angular velocity along the field depends upon the field geometry only and is not directly related to the variation of angular velocity along the solar surface between the footpoints. Depending upon the field configuration, both outward radial increases and decreases are possible. Using the Newton and Nunn model for the surface differential rotation rate, the angular velocity distribution on two particularly simple types of closed magnetic loop systems is determined analytically. It is shown that the angular velocity increases outward in the polar regions but decreases outward near the equator - leading to a decrease in differential rotation with height. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Wind flows and collimated jets are believed to be a feature of a range of disc accreting systems. These include active galactic nuclei, T Tauri stars, X-ray binaries and cataclysmic variables. The observed collimation implies large-scale magnetic fields and it is known that dipole-symmetry fields of sufficient strength can channel wind flows emanating from the surfaces of a disc. The disc inflow leads to the bending of the poloidal magnetic field lines, and centrifugally driven magnetic winds can be launched when the bending exceeds a critical value. Such winds can result in angular momentum transport at least as effective as turbulent viscosity, and hence they can play a major part in driving the disc inflow.
It is shown here that if the standard boundary condition of vanishing viscous stress close to the stellar surface is applied, together with the standard connection between viscosity and magnetic diffusivity, then poloidal magnetic field bending increases as the star is approached with a corresponding increase in the wind mass loss rate. A significant amount of material can be lost from the system via the enhanced wind from a narrow region close to the stellar surface. This occurs for a Keplerian angular velocity distribution and for a modified form of angular velocity, which allows for matching of the disc and stellar rotation rates through a boundary layer above the stellar surface. The enhanced mass loss is significantly affected by the behaviour of the disc angular velocity as the stellar surface is approached, and hence by the stellar rotation rate. Such a mechanism may be related to the production of jets from the inner regions of disc accreting systems.  相似文献

Regions of possible motions are established for dynamical systems possessing time-independent Hamiltonians or for systems which are reducible to that form by means of integrals of the motion using only extended point transformations. The method is applied to the problem of three bodies in a plane and surfaces of zero velocity are found. The governing parameters are the energy, angular momentum and the masses of the participating bodies. The analytical and geometrical properties of these surfaces provide qualitative results for given constants of the motion.  相似文献

We calculate the principal inertia moments of a three-dimensional mass distribution rotating with angular velocity in a self-gravitating homogeneous field with axial symmetry. We show that the angular momentumJ may, under certain conditions, be of the Regge-like type. These results are used to evaluate the mass and average density of the Universe.  相似文献

The aim of the present investigation will be to develop a theory of the light changes of the eclipsing systems in which one (or both) components oscillate(s) freely-radially or non-radially-in period(s) which may (though need not) be synchronized with that of their orbit. The light curves exhibited by systems with oscillating components will, in general, beasymmetric; and these oscillations may, in fact, be the cause of asymmetries observed in many eclipsing systems with evolved components (for which such oscillations-far from being anomalous-should be the rule rather than exception). The present paper will be concerned with an investigation of photometric phenomena arising from oscillations of theeclipsing components of close binary systems-cutting off (partly or wholly) the star (spherical or distorted) which undergoes eclipse. In Section 2, which follows a brief introductory survey aiming to place the entire subject in its historical perspective, a theory will be given of the light curves of close binary systems, in the frequency-domain, which are affected byradial oscillations of the eclipsed or eclipsing star; while Sections 3 and 4 will be devoted to a similar treatment ofnon-radial oscillation of the secondary (eclipsing) component distorted by equilibrium tides, or axial rotation with constant angular velocity. As will be shown, a frequency-domain approach will enable us to describe all these phenomena in algebraic terms; with auxiliary results required to this end relegated to three Appendices to the main text (in order not to render the latter too discursive and impede the main line of the argument).A similar treatment of photometric phenomena which may arise in such systems from oscillations of their components which undergo eclipse is being postponed for a subsequent communication.  相似文献

We explore the evolution of the angular velocity of an elastic Earth model, within the Hamiltonian formalism. The evolution of the rotation state of the Earth is caused by the tidal deformation exerted by the Moon and the Sun. It can be demonstrated that the tidal perturbation to spin depends not only upon the instantaneous orientation of the Earth, but also upon its instantaneous angular velocity. Parameterizing the orientation of the Earth figure axis with the three Euler angles, and introducing the canonical momenta conjugated to these, one can then show that the tidal perturbation depends both upon the angles and the momenta. This circumstance complicates the integration of the rotational motion. Specifically, when the integration is carried out in terms of the canonical Andoyer variables (which are the rotational analogues to the orbital Delaunay variables), one should keep in mind the following subtlety: under the said kind of perturbations, the functional dependence of the angular velocity upon the Andoyer elements differs from the unperturbed dependence (Efroimsky in Proceedings of Journées 2004: Systèmes de référence spatio-temporels. l’Observatoire de Paris, pp 74–81, 2005; Efroimsky and Escapa in Celest. Mech. Dyn. Astron. 98:251–283, 2007). This happens because, under angular velocity dependent perturbations, the requirement for the Andoyer elements to be canonical comes into a contradiction with the requirement for these elements to be osculating, a situation that parallels a similar antinomy in orbital dynamics. Under the said perturbations, the expression for the angular velocity acquires an additional contribution, the so called convective term. Hence, the time variation induced on the angular velocity by the tidal deformation contains two parts. The first one comes from the direct terms, caused by the action of the elastic perturbation on the torque-free expressions of the angular velocity. The second one arises from the convective terms. We compute the variations of the angular velocity through the approach developed in Getino and Ferrándiz (Celest. Mech. Dyn. Astron. 61:117–180, 1995), but considering the contribution of the convective terms. Specifically, we derive analytical formulas that determine the elastic perturbations of the directional angles of the angular velocity with respect to a non-rotating reference system, and also of its Cartesian components relative to the Tisserand reference system of the Earth. The perturbation of the directional angles of the angular velocity turns out to be different from the evolution law found in Kubo (Celest. Mech. Dyn. Astron. 105:261–274, 2009), where it was stated that the evolution of the angular velocity vector mimics that of the figure axis. We investigate comprehensively the source of this discrepancy, concluding that the difference between our results and those obtained in Ibid. stems from an oversimplification made by Kubo when computing the direct terms. Namely, in his computations Kubo disregarded the motion of the tide raising bodies with respect to a non-rotating reference system when compared with the Earth rotational motion. We demonstrate that, from a numerical perspective, the convective part provides the principal contribution to the variation of the directional angles and of length of day. In the case of the x and y components in the Tisserand system, the convective contribution is of the same order of magnitude as the direct one. Finally, we show that the approximation employed in Kubo (Ibid.) leads to significant numerical differences at the level of a hundred micro-arcsecond.  相似文献

The equilibrium structure of differentially rotating polytropic cylinders is determined numerically. We setn=3 and use a quadratic function for the law of differential rotation. We construct different models by varying the angular velocity at the axis and the ratio of the angular velocity at the surface to the angular velocity at the axis. By taking a decreasing function for the rotation law we are able to treat models with an angular velocity at the axis greater than the break-up velocity of uniformly rotating cylinders. We also determine whether a Richardson-like criterion for stability is violated in the models.  相似文献

In any theory of gravitation that predicts the existence of gravitational waves, it is shown that, in the absence of mass exchange and mass loss and subjected to a condition, a circular binary system with spherically-symmetrical components cannot evolve in such a way that the spin angular velocity is always a linear function of the orbital velocity. Probably this relation between the angular velocities cannot be realized in any time interval. In particular, the system cannot remain in a synchronized state. Of eight special cases of evolution of this binary system, three cases, where the separation increases, are shown to be kinematically impossible while a restriction on the variation of a parameter governing the evaluation of the system can be made in another. In one of the kinematically allowed special cases the separation increases.  相似文献
